Have heard about this place for awhile now(moved to Ipswich two years ago). Had high expectations, considering pizza a food of the gods. Talk about a hidden gem. Holy sweet jesus, The View strikes again! Last week I my brother was home, so Riverview was mandatory. Got take out, took it back to our parents house, and I devastated that pie. It never saw me coming. I got the kielbasa and meatball, extra sauce. One thing I had noticed before, the meatballs were a little smaller than they used to be. We were visiting the area for the corn maze, looking for some dinner spots on a Saturday night. Finally settled on Riverview and you can tell it's a local favorite - so many folks were coming in to pick up their pizza orders and we had to wait about 30-40 minutes to be seated. The interior is nothing to brag about - the low ceilings and dated decor make you feel like you've warped into a different time zone but I suppose that is one of its charms. The pizza was good and fresh. The menu boasts only pizza so be ready for that. The toppings they offer are standard and they're all just standard tomato sauce. Bottom line, this is a very standard pizza place in my book. No frills. The price of the pizza was definitely good and the size is comfortably a "personal" size, with enough to take home if you're not up for finishing a complete portion in 1 sitting. I can't believe I've never written a review for this place! Let me start by saying if I lived closer to this place I would be there at least 2x a week! Seriously! On your first visit you think, oh boy, the food and service is going to be horrible. I won't lie, it looks like a big dive! However, always clean, service is great, and the pizza to die for! The pizza isn't complicated, thin crust dough, sauce, cheese, and usually a meat or they have veggie pizza, etc. Nothing fancy about it, but have to say some of the best pizza I ever had! It hit me last night why I liked it so much, because it really reminded me of the pizza my mother used to make. Again her pizza was very simple and delicous! I'm a pizza lover and this has to be one of the best on the North Shore. Oh did I mention the prices are incredibly cheap too. Most pizzas are $7 or less. Meh. I would like the pizza more if the sauce wasn't so sweet. Take Regina's and double the sweetness factor and this is what you got. Lots of sauce and a thin layer of cheese. The crust was nice and buttery. It's not bad pizza but I wasn't blown away. Maybe I need to sample more of the menu - there were some great looking pies coming through the restaurant. I called in an order for two cheese pizzas when I was 15 mins away. 45 mins later I had my order. And it was raining so everyone was waiting inside and this place is beyond cramped. Parking is terrible. Pizza comes in only a small size but they do keep it affordable. No big egos here. The staff was very friendly even with the large crowd. This is a *locals* place. Part 1970s dive bar and part pizzeria. It's a throwback (cash only!) Maybe they should separate the two better. If you lived within walking distance it would be a lively and fun local joint. I've been eating pizza here since I was eight years old. This place is a local institution, and great in so many ways. First, all they serve is pizza- no salads, subs, etc., so be ready to eat pizza, period. The parking lot is tiny, and the place is often crowded, but thankfully, street parking is allowed. The decor reminds me of my parents' basement the way we decorated it when we were ten years old- pine paneled walls with a few Budweiser mirrors and such that were probably acquired with skee-ball tickets at a fair. It's a loud, family-friendly, working-class kind of place. Most of the pizza slingers are grizzled but nice older ladies. Onto the pizza. Riverview is one of only two places I have ever gotten New England style pizza (the other being my elementary school). The difference: cheddar is substituted for the mozzarella. It works- nothing has quite the flavor of browned cheddar, and it makes their pizza stand out from other places. The sauce is tangy, and the crust is thin and crispy and slightly oily on the outside, as it should be. It's pretty rare to find a pizza place in which none of the elements (crust, sauce, and cheese) disappoints, which must be why I sometimes find myself driving 30 minutes out of my way for a pie, with other options (like The Upper Crust) within walking distance. Generally, the wait for pizza is long, with a truly bittersweet ending. The famished eater is finally presented with a delicious, aromatic pizza, usually served at a tepid 400 degrees F. When it finally comes, try to resist the temptation to dig right into it or risk third degree burns to your mouth. Do sadistic mothers like to teach their children the virtues of patience by coming here? Pizzas are small (1 per person is about right for a modest eater). I've enjoyed the meatball and salami, but plain old cheese is the best. I love spicy food, so I know that sounds boring and lame, but it really is good- try it. read more

I'm surprised to be the first to write a review for this place! I ate here for the first time last night and I will definitely be back. Their pizza is killer. Each pie is $5-7 depending on the toppings you choose. You have your choice of bar or booth. The waitresses are friendly, and the cocktails come fast. This is exactly what I look for in a pizza place--good food, good drinks, cheap prices. They open at 4 most days, so it's definitely a dinner joint. The pizza is somewhat small. The crust is chewy on the inside, crispy on the outside. The sauce is really tasty--a basic marinara with a liberal amount of herbs spread on top. I dreamed of this pizza last night. Many endless discussions about why this pizza is so good. Is it the crust or the sauce? I could just eat the crust and be happy but I could drink the sauce and be content as well. This is just some old school pizza genius. Nothing fancy. No gourmet crap. I'm new to town, (Only lived in Rowley for a few months now), and i gotta say, if there's a way to end a friday night, this is it. I went here last week, and had a wonderful time. The pizzas come in a personal size, (From what i can see around, 13 inches,) and man, are they delicious. Soda is like a dollar a pop, but i went out on a limb and grabbed myself a white russian. Delicious! Best white russian i've had in this town so far. (Including the sports bar, sorry frank!) This place was a little loud, but it had a homey charm to it, felt like eating in your grandpa's dusty old log cabin. (without the dust.) The floors have a tiling made to distract the eye from dirt, but i'd venture the place is pretty clean. The chefs come in and out of the kitchen regularly, so i ventured a chat with one, and he seemed quite pleasant and happy to be working there. All in all, i give this place the highest rating i can. The first time I had Riverview, I was completely not impressed because it was so hyped up by my friend and by the time it reached my house it was cold and I had no idea what to expect other than "the best pizza ever". I'm very happy to say that I let my friend take me to the place for a second chance and I gotta say, I'm hooked.... The Chef's Special is my favorite pie. When this pizza is hot and fresh it is so simply great, I don't even have more words to describe it really... You just gotta go and eat it there. Is this like every other pizza place? No. But that's what makes it great, it is a thing entirely of its own. The atmosphere is dark and retro, but its also friendly, and down to earth. I felt very at home here. My fiancé and I love this restaurant. He asks to come here for his birthday every year. It's a very simple place but it's great. The only food they serve is pizza and drinks. Each person gets a personal pizza with their choice of toppings. They don't even bother with plates. You eat off of wax paper which makes clean up easy. They also do takeout. Ive never had an issue with the service. They've always don't a pretty good job. They started offering outdoor dining during the pandemic and very limited indoor dining. I've been all around the world, including Italy, but I would rank Riverview as one of the best pizzas I have ever had. They really only serve one thing: pizza. And they do it well!! Every pizza is hand made thin crust. They do not use some preformed dough, either. It is from a ball of dough, just as you would do at home. The sauce is unique and to die for, yet not very acidic (which is the problem I have with many pizza places. It actually has bits of tomato in it, as well. The toppings are many and quit generous. Hands down our favorite North Shore pizza. The quaint place is a large old house uniquely modified to crank out pizza, and only pizza. No salads here ladies, just inexpensive handmade pies. The thin crust must be "low carb" compared to Dominos or other crappy pizza. The menu is short, service is friendly and the prices are so cheap you think you stepped into a time capsule. My parents have been coming to this place since they were teenagers...From their stories, I'm happy to say that it sounds like the Riverview hasn't changed ONE bit over the years (their food or décor.) Want pizza? Good. Because that is the ONLY food they serve. No salads, no soups, no nothing. Realizing that our first experience was during the pandemic, I am still disappointed with Riverview Pizza. We are fairly new to Ipswich and have been unsuccessful finding a good, Italian pizza place. Riverview's pizza tasted pretty good, but I have to vent my list of complaints. 1. I verbally gave a tip of $1.50 but when I got my email receipt, the tip charged on my card was $2.00. I know it's only 50 cents, but how often do they give themselves a larger tip than the customer stated? 2. We got pepper and onion pizza. The onions were dehydrated tiny flecks! I have NEVER experienced this, not even with supermarket pizza. And the peppers were out of a jar - I could smell and taste the vinegar marinade. Again, I've never experienced toppings on a pizza that were not fresh! 3. The pizza was very small and they have only 2 size. And where is the crust? Add a very limited choice of ingredients, very limited. Sorry, but they will not likely get a second chance from me. read more

When a group of people who just spent 4 hours kayaking for 7 miles are hungry, what's the best place to go? Riverview. With a sparse menu of various pizzas and toppings and a grungy little hole in the wall place, it doesn't seem like much to offer. But it's seriously the best bang for your buck. Pizzas, and we're talking like full-on 12-inch ones, run about $6-8, the most expensive being $11 I think, if you pretty much order every single topping. We spent 10 minutes looking at the prices and thinking to ourselves "That's gotta be $6 a slice right?" Beers are about $3-4 each. Sodas are like $1. You really can't get any cheaper than what they offer you here. The service was fine, although the waitresses are a little gruff if you're not used to it. The pizza came out fresh and the crust was really good. Most of us ordered our own and ended up taking about half of them home with us for a second meal. I knocked off a star because a.) they're cash only and I'm slightly biased against cash-only places and b.) their plates and silverware were just a sheet of wax paper and a plastic fork. I have been going here for a long time. I loved it so much at first. They are very inconsistent now. Sometimes the pizza comes out great but, lately it's really been lacking. We've noticed that they have been putting way too much cheese on lately so last time, we asked for less. We got barely any cheese and both of our pizzas were burnt. Later that night, we heard our friend complaining about the burnt pizza he got that night from Riverview as well. I just don't understand how they could be sending sub-par pizzas out if they are supposed to be a town staple and a restaurant that people travel a long time to get to. I think Pinos or Prestos in Brookline might have better flavor (depends on what you prefer) but this riverview restaurant has the best crust. Thin and Chewy. Great cheese. What can be said about the Riverview that hasn't been said by in comments already? Well.....nothing, really. I seriously do not think that any combination of their many options could create a pizza that would be anything less than "outstanding." The Riverview boasts a unique approach to pizza that is both traditional and familiar...and eventually turns into an addiction in most cases. I've literally posted a handful of reviews ever in my life... that said I've been going to river view for the past 20 years. I always love their pizza and still do, however the past few times the woman behind the bar that gets the pick up orders has been SO rude beyond belief that I'm personally not going back. The first time I chalked it up to a fluke, this second time was a deal breaker. There's an older woman with blonde, curly hair and a deep, raspy voice that gives the take out orders. Some drunk dude sitting at the bar questioned that I had ordered online, since they've always done cash up til COVID. The waitress literally rolled her eyes and the two of them shamed me into the fact that I had placed an online order- and to each other right in front of me, not to my face. They made me so uncomfortable that I grabbed my pizzas burning hot and left- how about if you don't wanna deal with online orders or god forbid a card purchase in the 21st century... DONT OFFER IT!? My advice if you do choose to order pickup from there, plan on having all the cash (minus tip if they're as rude as they were to me the past few times). Pizza is good but certainly not good enough to deal with the attitude of waitresses and drunk assholes that WILL be sitting at the bar. Such a shame and a huge loss read more

Very disappointing, went there Friday night and first no indoor dining. No hard liquor served out side. The pizza was not good. The tomatoes were of a different texture, very sour. I have been coming here since 1996. Don't know if I'll be back. Waitress is very nice. read more
