The pizza is amazing. But that's why you would visit this establishment. Oh and you're required to enjoy bar pizza. No sharing though each pizza is perfect for 1 person with a slice maybe 2 for breakfast the next day. Not a huge kielbasa fan, but it's the best topping ever on these gems. It's the best pizza I think on the North Shore. The pizza is thin crust and delicious I recommend getting it old way to switch it up a little bit. The place looks like it haven't been touched since the 50's it's a really fun vibe. Dive cocktails and amazing pizza right next to the train station, I recommend anyone living near the commuter rail to get on a train and try it. Went for my birthday and was really disappointed. We ordered a pepperoni and onion pizza and the waitress came back 5 minutes later to confirm our order since she had written down pepperoni and mushroom. When it arrived, it was a mushroom pizza. We waited for her to return which took another 5 minutes and said that we thought she had given us the wrong pizza, which she confirmed. She brought it to the table behind us, who was already eating our pizza and then also took the mushroom pizza as well when it was offered to her. The waitress had to put another order in for ours and we waited another 10-15 minutes to eat. The meal only cost us $15, but we were there a long time and the room was really humid. No discounts were offered although she did apologize. As we left, our waitress announced she had just stepped on a mushroom on the floor. Sounds about right. We won't need to visit again. Too bad, since we were really hoping to find a good local pizza joint. read more

Finally went there on a Friday night around 6-ish and the first thing you notice is the smell of baking pizza dough wafting down the street. The second thing you notice is that the place looks like a VFW Moose Lodge or someone's house. Might be a little easy to miss for some. It was mobbed with both to-go people waiting around and those waiting for tables. So we had a couple beers while waiting at the tiny bar which was standing room only. Nice beer selection by the way - I had a Sierra while expecting only Bud, Miller, etc... So the place has its charm. It felt a little like being at Uncle Earl's lake house up in Maine...the type of place you can't figure out which post -WWII decade you're in, but that's cool. A lot of wood paneling and a jukebox - not sure if it works. So we finally get seated and have some pies ordered up. One pepperoni and one plain done up old-way. We finally get them served after a longer-than-you'd-like wait and unfortunately, they were served far from piping-hot. But we were starved so we dug in and they were indeed tasty, not too greasy, and the thin crust was awesome in the way that simple homemade goodness can only provide. The old way pizza was fun and I like the way the tomato sauce (on top of the cheese) took on a little carmelization which added a nice flavor. If you are hungry then maybe 2 pizzas per person works best as they are on the small side (we're talking both diameter and thickness). You can also change up your orders with some 50/50 topping selections. They put a lot of effort into pricing out their menu with split-topping choices as it nearly takes over their menu. I guess split-toppings are serious business for them Ipswichers! :) Next time I will check it out on a weeknight and forgo the endless Little League banquet that seems to be going on during the weekends. But it is definitely a place you want to visit...and go with an empty stomach and a craving for beer. Out of all the beer and pizza places I've been this is the best. Their pizza is made for a beer pairing like no other...and I think it is all because of that damn good crust. read more

Excellent pizza!! Fast service and easy pick up. This restaurant has been in my home town my entire life and it trumps all the rest!

Always stop back here when I am visiting my family. Started going here when I played little league and it still has the same pizza they had then. They don't try to change it up or eat fancy. There are no sizes, no salads, almost no substitutions and they only take cash. I love how they make it really simple and about the pizza, which tasted awesome! If you have a big party make sure everyone if there cause if they call your number and your not ready, you get skipped. Nothing fancy as the "plate" is a piece of wax paper. This time we went with the classics for the party of 9, pepperoni, kielbasa, meatball, chefs choice, meat lovers, sausage and a cheese no sauce for two picky kids. All of it was delicious and we only had a few slices left over that someone ate on the ride home. A great local stop for pizza if you are in the mood. read more

I just love this place. My family and I moved from the area over 30 years ago, and they just stayed true to the "old-school" look and feel. Where else can you go to sit in red vinyl seating that's been updated and better than new (and I was there when it was really in need of attention about 20 years ago). It's just fabulous! No plates for these thin crusts, served on the same waxed paper I grew up eating it on. I didn't see the arcades and was a little saddened... but they were in the back room, with more seating! Fully functional, beeping and booping like it's 1985 again. If you're new to the area, you'll still appreciate good prices, and a home-like atmosphere. For those of us 80's kids, it's rad! read more

Please, don't ever change a single thing about this place! I spend a considerable part of my time in NYC and yet this is the place I go when I want pizza. Great bonus that they offer kielbasa as a topping, unique in my experience. Not that there's ever much left over, but this stuff actually somehow gets better after a night in the fridge. Friendly place, good prices, addictive pizza! From what I hear, this is a place that Ipswich locals cherish -- and the place is full of them. My friends who live nearby call it a "townie joint." Decor is "70s Dive," if that recent. Very kid- and teen-friendly. At the bar, most of the bartenders are long-timers, and the whole staff runs the place like a family. Comfortingly pleasant, although at times super-busy. The only food they sell is pizza, in only one size (I'd call it medium-small), but that's fine by me -- between $7 for a plain cheese and $12 for an "Everything" (which means everything they have on it, including broccoli... and it's delicious!) -- it's certainly affordable. The drinks are pretty cheap too. I recommend trying the pizza "old way," which is with the sauce on the top. It may sound strange at first, but this lets the toppings get crispy, and the sauce nice and thick. Note: Cash only. They do have an ATM on-premises, but it charges $2. Which isn't terrible, comparatively. Also, not a lunch place: the Riverview opens at 4. No delivery, but there seems to be a constant conveyor of local afficionados coming in for pick-up. read more

I have recently renewed my experience with the Riverview rest. Lived in Ipswich from 69 to 82 and frequently enjoyed their THIN pizzas. Recently i revisited the restaurant and their products are consistent with what i enjoyed 50+ years ago. Good varieties of toppings too. My family and I have been going here for years since it's my grandfather's favorite pizza place. Even though I have since moved to Rhode Island, we try to go when I'm in the area and everyone agrees on pizza. While they only serve pizza (and I don't remember if they do free refills) you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The place can fill up fairly quickly so it's best to get there as close to when they open as you can, especially on weekends. Parking lot is also small so it's safe to say better park on the street. I know times are difficult but that's no excuse for their poor service. Other restaurants deal with it politely. Riverview makes it so difficult, and when they bring the pizzas to your car, they insist on putting them on your car roof even though I had gloves and a mask on and the window open the server insisted on putting them on my roof. Even the phone person had an attitude. It's to bad it used to be a good place. Pizza is ok, but it s not worth the aggravation. read more

The Riverview is a North Shore thing. Don't even come up here and stink up the joint if your from towns like Quincy, Plymouth or Braintree. We don't want your kind. Get your lazy ass to the bar and find an empty seat. And if there is a wait, take the numbered washer and wait your damn turn you lousy tourist. I prefer to hang at the bar, if there is an open seat in the 8 stools they have. It doesn't speed up your service or anything, I just like to be as close to booze as possible because I'm a no good alcoholic. Enjoy a stiff cocktail or a beer, neither of which will be outlandishly priced. The pizza, dear sweet Jesus, the pizza. Put it this way. Do you have a cute pet or a child? I would punch them in the face if it meant I got to have Riverview pizza in return. It's that serious. Order a pie for yourself and get your filthy clam-digging hands off of mine. If you decide to bring your cute kid, whom I just punched in the face in the previous paragraph, they have a juke box which hasn't been updated since 1992 and 2 video games from that time frame as well. Sideshow entertainment for your kid, whose nursing a black eye, will cost you about 2 American dollars so they can hear Alvin and the Chipmunks sing "Achy Breaky Heart" and play Neo-Geo.
