The receptionist let me know it would be $250 for the visit on top of what the doctor ordered. I understood. The nurse gave me a flu and Covid test, no mention of the cost (last time I went these were free). The doctor (Dr. Lawrence To) kept going into the wrong rooms, eventually made it to my room 45 minutes later after waiting for my results. They were negative, he asked about my symptoms. I told him my lungs burn- he was confused. "What do you mean they burn?" He said he'd never heard that before. "People normally just say they're congested". You went to school for 10 years or more and have never heard of someone's lungs burning? I told him I had met with a different doctor at that location a separate time and he gave me antibiotics that fixed my issues when I had the same symptoms, no need for xray. That is what I requested but the current doctor recommended ordering an xray of my chest, but didn't tell me why. I asked how much it would cost, he said $120, then checked with other staff that worked there and said it would be $48 plus however much it costs for the reading of the xray. No one could give me an answer how much the reading would cost. I was in serious pain, exhausted and overwhelmed so I agreed because I just needed answers. The doctor comes in and says nothing showed on my xray so he's just giving me meds. No medical advice, no communication on what he thought the issue was, didn't offer any kind of explanation. I get to the desk and the receptionist is asleep. I wake her up and she is adding the charges together for the tests. The total comes out to $700. I stopped her and asked why it was that much. NO ONE communicated the prices of things except for the $250 at the beginning and the $48 for the xray. Her response was "I told you whatever the doctor orders is on top", but you are legally required to communicate the price of things before you do them without insurance. She was extremely rude. I was not given a good faith estimate. I was being charged blindly. No one could give me answers, they took advantage of the fact that I am a young out of state college student with no insurance. Will never be going back and will not be letting this go lightly.

My PCP is Dr. Margaret Song. She has been my PCP for ~15 years. If you're looking for a doctor that will quickly prescribe medications for anything, she is not for you. Every time I come to her with an illness or problem, she takes her time diagnosing the problem and offers remedies that you can do at home for simple issues. However, if you're absolutely sick, she will delve into things and identify what prescription would really work for you. I have also been to RMC Urgent Care and indeed they operate the place like an ER. I saw Dr. Frickman and he did not make me feel like any other urgent care center I've been to. He took his time diagnosing me, getting radiology and bloodwork labs completed to diagnose me. Overall, the Urgent Care takes its time diagnosing you. They might take a while to get to you, but that is understandable considering they are providing you with thorough care. Ever since they went from physician-owned to privately owned, you can see many cracks coming down the line with changes in an effort from United Health Services (UHS) to save money. They got rid of all individual receptionists at each doctor's window that was the standard practice for decades. They now have a central check-in kiosk, that part is fine. The part that has failed catastrophically is calling to get an appointment. They decided to move to a call-center approach to capture all calls in one place. This is not working, nor has it been working for a while. Being on hold for +25 minutes each time is simply unacceptable.
