Three generations of the same family working here, an awesome atmosphere, and a place that really hasn't changed much over the years. Riverside Lunch on Hazel St is an original diner type restaurant with the open frying top for their burgers and a team of people helping to serve us all. The smash burgers were awesome although I would have been good with a single instead of a double. The onion rings were great too but the basket was too large for the two of us. Love the decorations throughout the inside walls of the restaurant and supports the local teams in Charlottesville. This is officially my new favorite c-ville diner. They have by far, the best smash burgers around. We both got the double cheese burger. It was so satisfying. Our server (Ashley) was super nice and patient with us (first timers here). Her recommendations we went with. We treated ourselves to a piece of carrot cake which was locally made. The beef is sourced locally. Its all about local when you in live in c-ville. They do serve beer here, which is nice to know next time we visit (which we will be shortly). Didn't try this visit. I've had burgers from Chicago to New York to California to New Orleans and let me tell you--these are every bit as good as I've had anywhere. I had the bacon double cheeseburger with a basket of onion rings and I may never eat again (for at least a day or two). So good. And the staff was amazingly kind and welcoming to me in my first visit tonight. The burgers were delicious (she was right!) and the wings were so crispy... and huge! We also got fries, onion rings and the cheese balls. We didn't have a single thing to complain about. This place DOES NOT DISSAPOINT. I heard raving reviews from some people about this place, and dang it was amazing. This serves your standard American fare (burgers, fries, subs etc.) at very very very reasonable prices. I order a triple cheeseburger with lettuce tomatoes and grill mushrooms for a tad under $9.00. The menu and prices seem very similar to Canipes which I have also heard great things about as well. I would recommend only sticking with the burgers and subs here as the fries just seemed like frozen shoestring fries that were fried. Overall, if I am in the area again, I will be back! read more
