Gus Burger

The White Spot is a UVA staple. It's great to grab some quick food and it feels like their kitchen is always open! It's super popular for their late night snacks and you will probably catch tons of kids enjoying their Gus Burgers and cheesy fries and onion rings around 3am on any weekend. The hectic vibes are where it's at. Also they have some fun merch that every UVA fan should grab before heading out of town. My parents even started coming here regularly. I've only ever enjoyed these delicacies in the late hours of the evening, so who knows how accurate my rating of the food would be. However, the vibes are 10/10

Come for the Gus Burger Great, late-night college food. The Gus Burger is really what it's known for. The egg on a burger is available pretty much everywhere at this point, but I remember hearing that this was one of the first places to do it! Worth a stop late at night.

Cool spot. Close to the hospital, which was why we were here. Good greasy cheeseburger and fries. Nothing fancy, but it really has an old time, been around forever kinda of feel. We came for a late lunch in a weekday, and were the only ones in the place. So it was quiet and noT crowded.

Somehow it all works out perfectly. The griddle burger, the runny eggs, cheese sliding off and the habanero sauce on the side. I just love it and have for 30 years.

I had my first GB during my first trip to Charlottesville when I attended a wedding near UVA. Going in the afternoon I avoided the mad crowd of college kids at midnight. That would've been fun but I enjoyed my GB in silence at noon.

This iconic burger joint on the UVA campus is a must for hamburger fans. It has been around for decades and is thriving to this day. Be advised, this is a burger place in the style of fast food (not gourmet) burgers but with oh so much more character. We were in town visiting a relative in the hospital and needed a quick but fulfilling lunch. My 80-year-old uncle recommended this place because he remembered it from his college days! You can either order and sit at a soda-fountain style bar or sit down and they will take your order table-side. I had the Gus Burger special all the way, which was a cheeseburger with a fried egg on top, fries and a fountain drink. Although they don't have beer they do have SWEET TEA. Love that. Other pleasant surprises: the food came unbelievably fast and the French fries were excellent. The burger was great. I look forward to trying some of their other intriguing menus items. It looks like a great place for breakfast too.

It's a university town classic. Friendly people and more space than initially appears. Great Gusburgers and fries.

The waiter was quick to take our order the house salad with grilled chicken. It was fresh, delicious and filled with the perfect about of topping. The chicken was favorable and the honey mustard dressing was spot on. About $20 and worth every penny. My husband ordered a cheese burger 1/2 pound juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. He mentioned one of the best burgers he's ever had. He also ordered buttered fried onion rings. He also claimed they were cooked to perfection. In case you have never been they offer steaks that are cooked in a brick fire oven. AMAZING I ordered the VA sirloin which was cooked to perfection (medium rare) with creamed spinach and potatoes. The creamed spinach and the potatoes were very delicious and flavorful. I also ordered the fried oysters which were great. Not overly fried and still maintained the texture and flavor of a typical oyster. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was very entertaining and helpful. She was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. She ensured that wanted for nothing. The ambiance was great. I loved the cow theme as well as the signage that stated "no well done steaks". It was a great touch. Overall, I had a great experience. If I am in Charlottesville again I will definitely visit.

Wait time from store to store is usually pretty short, but waiting for actual food can be 2 minutes to 15 depending on who you go to. For example, a son got pizza slices immediately while my trip to order and get Tom Kha soup took 18. The flavor is hit or miss depending on restaurant and what you order. I got a chicken salad from the chicken place and it was great. My daughter got fettuccini alfredo and declared it rich, but bland. All that said, you can't miss with the ice cream location. So, regardless of what you ordered as the main dish, you can leave with a smile and a waffle cone in hand.
