It's just part of tradition that you must do! This time it was 20 years later, before 1:00 am, and sober so I feel I can write an honest review. Gus burger never disappoints, the regular cheeseburger always hits the "spot", and hubby got the gyro and said it was good. You don't go here for the best most wow food ever; you go here because of the history, because of the people that spun around at the counter before you and yes before them! The White Spot is a UVA staple. It's great to grab some quick food and it feels like their kitchen is always open! It's super popular for their late night snacks and you will probably catch tons of kids enjoying their Gus Burgers and cheesy fries and onion rings around 3am on any weekend. The hectic vibes are where it's at. Also they have some fun merch that every UVA fan should grab before heading out of town. My parents even started coming here regularly. I've only ever enjoyed these delicacies in the late hours of the evening, so who knows how accurate my rating of the food would be. However, the vibes are 10/10 read more

Came here with friends after a night out. The inside of the place is gross and not clean. And the burger and fries were not good at all. The egg was very overcooked, and the burger meat tasted bad in our orders. For 10 dollars, you can get a much better burger and fries combo anywhere else. The only redeeming factor about this place is that it's open late. But so is Christian's. And even if you're not craving pizza, you're better off going there for late night food instead. read more

We sat at the bar for breakfast. The staff was nice, my omelette was good (Western Omelette with bacon instead of ham). The diet coke was a little syrup-y and my toast wasn't super warm. If what you want is cheap food and decent quality, this could a good spot (see what I did there?) for your. I tried out their grilled cheese and turkey sandwich. It's clear that the real star of the menu is the Gus Burger. I didn't know this, so can't comment on its flavor. Maybe try it out when you come here. The turkey and cheese sandwich was just okay. Bread was toasted, they did offer crispy veggies, and the turkey was standard. The price was around $8. Not bad but could be cheaper. The cheese fries were surprisingly good. Your meal comes with a choice of s few different sides (mainly French fries or home fries, onion rings for an up charge I believe). The sauce was not too plasticy and genuinely flavorful. Overall, good. The employees are super quick and efficient, but the place can get pretty packed. All in all, not a bad spot to stop by for a cheap meal. read more

Admittedly I have only been to the White Spot late at night and inebriated, but this is a solid spot for drunk food. The Gusburger is a classic, but I don't love eggs on burgers so I'll usually opt for the grilled cheese which really hits the spot. The other must-try when you are at the White Spot is the "Grills With"-- two glazed donuts grilled and served with ice cream. So decadent, so delicious. The Gus burger is a classic, but what this place is known for is cheap, greasy food, relatively quick. Most of the time if you're heading to White Spot it's after a night out, and it's great that they have late hours and keep food going. Their prices are a little wild, they once charged my $4 for a water, but when there's one choice of night bites you've gotta pay what they'd like. Stop here if you've had a night out and need to grab some food, but maybe not the best place for a lunch or dinner on the Corner. read more

I placed an order online, something I've done a few times before for White Spot. When we arrived to pick up our meal, the staff member there refused to give us the food we had already paid for online. We had screenshots with timestamps to prove when and what we ordered and that it was already paid for, but the staff member refused to even look at it, claiming something about it not coming through on his computer. This iconic burger joint on the UVA campus is a must for hamburger fans. It has been around for decades and is thriving to this day. Be advised, this is a burger place in the style of fast food (not gourmet) burgers but with oh so much more character. We were in town visiting a relative in the hospital and needed a quick but fulfilling lunch. My 80-year-old uncle recommended this place because he remembered it from his college days! You can either order and sit at a soda-fountain style bar or sit down and they will take your order table-side. I had the Gus Burger special all the way, which was a cheeseburger with a fried egg on top, fries and a fountain drink. Although they don't have beer they do have SWEET TEA. Love that. Other pleasant surprises: the food came unbelievably fast and the French fries were excellent. The burger was great. I look forward to trying some of their other intriguing menus items. While the food was good and the prices were low, the business was overall dirty and way understaffed. There was a bar area that was treated first and given food faster because there was only one chef also acting as a host and waiter, but there was also a small area with tables that was much cuter than the rest of the establishment. Just moved to the area and wanted to find a place for lunch around the UVa area. This place is a cute mom pop looking place. The staff members are friendly and positive. The food is pretty decent. Coming from around the Philly area, I know a good cheesesteak, this isn't the best, but definitely not the worst. It was pretty good, but won't give Philly a run for its money. The fries were decent, wished they fried it a bit more to give it a nice crunch, but thats personal preference. Their onion rings were actually pretty good with the spicy sauce they had. read more

Drunk Joy: three Gus burgers and a large order of fries. This came right after seeing two sorority girls vomit all over each other on the bench right outside, so clearly my mental state was severely compromised. The bun was kind of stale, the beef patty was gritty (like it was full of sand or mushed up bones), the egg was meh, and this combination of ketchup and mustard shot out like a snot rocket and permanently stained my shirt. My friends still had to drag me out of there, because apparently I kept saying such nonsense as "ten more burgers please." Sober Joy: one Gus burger and felt sick for the whole day. Maybe you need your throat to be sufficiently lubricated in vodka to keep that whole mess down. Plus the place is the paradigm of the beer goggle phenomenon. When you stumble in here at around 1 am, the place looks warm, comforting, and bright; Dmitri the Owner's grin at your three burgers looks fatherly and proud, and the workers' shouting, mixed with the drunken ramblings of undergrads, makes you feel right at home. When you march in here at 4pm of your own volition, the place is downright drab, the walls are covered in stains, and Dmitri the Owner is leering at your skirt. But I'm still coming here next Thursday night. read more

The White Spot is a cozy hole in the wall establishment that doesn't take itself too seriously. It's your usual diner fare with the characteristic plastic lettering stuck into the boards changed every so often. I came here for the "Grills With" with my boyfriend who spoke very highly of it - I joke that it's these artery-clogging foods that make me a "fat shit". The "Grills With" is two Krispy Kreme glazed original donuts grilled on the spot and topped with a personal carton of vanilla ice cream. Yep. You read right. Get your sweet tooth and insulin medication ready, because this will make you die of beetus for less than $4. read more

Coming in the place is tiny but very welcoming. I ordered the Gus Burger no cheese and my husband ordered the One Hell of a Mess. My Gus Burger was cooked to perfection. It was my first time trying fried egg (long story) and man have I been missing out. The burger got better with every bite! My husband enjoyed his One Hell Mess but with three eggs it was too much food for him. The service was good. One thing though there were only two on staff and we had to wait for them to make and charge other customers ordering to go before we could pay for our meal. Wow! UVA certainly has some of the best restaurants around. Hungry? Try the chicken tenders, they somehow infused the taste of fish within the CHICKEN tenders. God knows how they managed to do that seeing how they dont even sell fried fish. You know what goes good on fish tenders? Ketchup. Too bad they cannot even fill the ketchup containers. So then youre just sitting there with a mouth full of questionable chicken crying because you have no ketchup to wash it down thoroughly.
