It has been almost a decade since I have been to this place. I have lots of great memories at this establishment. That being said the sandwich I got was just OKAY. It was nothing special or bad. Just not notable. I may have messed up and should have tried something else. But for the price you pay for a sub here you'd expect just a slightly higher quality. I won't bag (pun intended) on this too much as I believe in this place. If I ever get another chance to have off in the middle of the day to come to this place during its operating hours I would give it another shot. Not rushing to come again though. read more

A group of us chose this restaurant for lunch. We all ordered something different to share. Everyone concluded that the meal and service did not live up to the upscale prices. No matter what sandwich we tried, they were neither tasty or fresh. Lettuce and tomatoes were stale. Service was slow and management did not seem the least bit concerned about customer service. One indication of their idea of customer service is there is only one unkempt bathroom. Rather than returning to this place, dining at Subway would result in a better meal, service and ambience. read more

Baggby's is the best gluten free sandwich I've ever had -- the bun is prepared perfectly and every element of the sandwich is prepared with such care and consideration that every time I come here I leave feeling full of gratitude and joy. The Remarkable sandwich really lives up to its name and pairs perfectly with a crunch of chips. And then there's management -- the staff at Baggby's goes the extra mile. They're kind, super fast, and really care about their customers. Once, months ago, I came up to Baggby's like thirty minutes after they'd closed, and the owners let me in and made me a sandwich anyway. And lastly -- I have a dog who gets hot very easily because of her long hair. Every morning, without fail, Baggby's is the first AND ONLY shop in downtown Charlottesville to have a bowl of ICE WATER for extra hot dogs! This bowl is out there before they even open and my dog starts pulling in their direction every morning. 10/10 for a Charlottesville staple that I hope isn't going anywhere! read more

Wow!! What an awesome place. Stopped by today for lunch after a not so great interaction with another sandwich shop in the area - and I should have just gone here first. Service was absolutely amazing and FAST. My Reuben was customized easily with turkey instead of pastrami, and the owner is SO nice. Free refills on drinks, too! A lunchtime favorite for downtown office workers. Recommendations: roast beef - it's the thick kind! Price: it's expensive, so be prepared. $13ish for a sandwich, chips, and small bonus cookie (doesn't come with drink) Service: can get very busy during lunch. This place is such a great spot for a quick and fresh sandwich. I ordered a Turkey sandwich on wheat and it came with tomatoes, lettuce and Mayo. It was yummy and came with a chocolate chip cookie and they had a water fountain inside to grab one if you preferred that over soda. Came here for lunch on a Monday. Pretty busy but able to place an order quickly. The grilled sandwiches take about 10 minutes. The High Noon egg salad sandwich was the best, the cream cheese added a nice smooth texture and the bacon added a nice crunch. The Albuquerque Turkey was nice and warm and the hot and sweet peppers added a good spice. The meatball sub had a good marinara but the meatballs were a little dry and dense. The ambiance was similar to other delis (self serve and seating). Overall would come back but probably try something off the specialty sandwiches menu rather than the grilled sandwiches menu. read more

It's so dangerous for me to find a source of delicious, hot, cheesy-gooey stuffed with grilled vegetables, in a big ole yummy whole wheat roll, Very, very dangerous..... As sandwiches go, it's not a complete dive off the diet cliff, but it's a hefty sandwich and once vegetables get wrapped in a warm blanket of melty cheese and stuffed into a carb bomb, well, you can't pat yourself on the back too hard. The Sedona Vegetarian Sub is quite magical, though. Worth the indulgence. Baggby's Gourmet Sandwiches is a cute little place right on the downtown mall. I took the advise of others and got the Navajo chicken sandwich. It isn't big. It's actually ALMOST on the smaller side, but boy was it actually the perfect amount. With chips and a free small cookie I was perfectly full for lunch, not hungry and not stuffed. Which I appreciate as I had a long work presentation right after and didn't want to be groggy or hungry. We stopped here for a quick lunch during a day trip to Charlottesville and had mixed feelings about our food. My husband had the Navajo chicken sandwich, which is a best seller for good reason. He really enjoyed his sandwich (chicken, avocado, bacon on sourdough), but I was left underwhelmed. I was prepared to order the Baggby's Prime (like roast beef au jus) when I noticed their new special was a Mediterranean wrap. I changed my order to that because it advertised artichokes, amongst other Med-type goodies. However, my wrap hardly included anything other than lettuce and hummus - I couldn't find a trace of artichokes and the feta cheese was incredibly sparse. Could have easily been a really flavorful and memorable wrap, but it was just a big let down. If I came back next time I was in town, I'd like to try a different sandwich for sure. I was strolling through downtown with some friends, looking for a place to eat. We had walked from one end of the mall to the other, trying to find a place to eat at. We had passed some places that looked good, but we just wanted to check out the other options. By the time we got to the other end where Baggby's is, we were so starving and tired, we just decided to eat there for no particular reason, except it was right in front of us. I ordered the Sedona. They described it as a vegetarian philly cheese steak. So I was intrigued. It's definitely no where close to a cheese steak. It was definitely filling though! I also had a taste of the chicken and rice soup. It was pretty hearty and flavorful. You also get a small cookie with your order. Although, if my friends didn't tell me about it, I might have not noticed it, cause it mixes in with the napkin. I don't think there is anything really special about Baggby's. If I were in the area again, I'd probably try a different place. I have no complaints, but it's not a place that stood out to me. read more

A dinner-worthy, hand-crafted sandwich that could have fed two people (sliced turkey, crispy bacon, avocado, sprouts, mayo, multi-grain bread). It was yummy! 2. A free cookie -- no calories! 3. I've been here a few times now and think it's well on it's way to becoming one of my regular lunch spots. The prices are competitive with most other sandwich shops in the area and the ingredients always taste fresh and delicious. The staff is generally pretty friendly but they all get a bit flustered during the lunch rush, and aren't as patient with first timers or those who need a while to look over the menu before they order. The place is pretty small and it gets packed very quickly around noon, so plan on getting bumped into by other patrons in line or those looking for a free table as you're sitting and trying to eat--or avoid it altogether by eating in the outdoor seating area. If you go and don't know what to order, give the Navajo Chicken sandwich a try--it's by far my favorite. Also look out for the free small cookie, if you don't know it's in the bag with your sandwich it's easy to overlook and throw away. read more

The Navajo is, hands down, the best sandwich I've ever had. Baggby's is quick, clean, delicious, and the staff has always been exceedingly nice to me as well as everyone I've seen them interact with. My first time here and I loved it! Everyone was super friendly. I ordered the Navajo chicken, which was a grilled sandwich. The owner gave me a heads up that it would take a bit longer because of that, which I appreciated! The wait was nothing I could be mad about in the end, and the food was definitely worth it! All the ingredients just tasted fresh, and they even threw in a mini cookie for free! My favorite part was honestly the sour dough the sandwich came on, it was just so fluffy yet doughy.
