Wanted to see what the hype was all about with these bagels. Bodo's has 3 locations in town, but I picked one that had a large parking lot. This location is also quite large inside. The tables and carpet could use more frequent cleaning, but customer service was friendly. Though they were busy, they took my order quickly and my egg & cheese on whole wheat bagel was out within a few minutes. I was looking forward to trying the local no bull patty, but was told they no longer have this option. Take Out Review: Even though the line was almost out the door, it moved quickly, and it wasn't long before I was on my way. I will say that inside there was plenty of seating in case you wanted to eat in. The bagels were good. Like really good. But the breakfast bagel I got was missing something that didn't quite make it the 5 stars I hoped it would be. Regardless, I added a bit of hot sauce and devoured the whole thing. I see why everyone loves Bodo's, it's just freaking delicious. As a first timer I was confused as to where the line started since there were sooooo many people ordering/waiting. Once you figure that you the line moves very quickly. Since the menu is bagels and sandwiches the food is also prepared pretty quickly. I love that they make the bagels fresh throughout the day, so they seemed to be well stocked. This is definitely a 3.5 star joint but it doesn't quite deserve the 4th star, so I have to round down to 3. They advertise as authentic NY water boiled bagels. I'll give them this-they are as close as you'll get in this area. I was impressed with the amount of seeds on my poppy bagel-less so on my everything. And they were definitely water boiled, but whether it was something about their dough recipe or perhaps just the VA vs NY water, they weren't the same as a NY bagel. We both got an everything bagel with egg and cheese and their veggie nobull patty. It was a bit disappointing as we were expecting a veggie sausage but it was more like a veggie burger. Still, it was a decent breakfast sandwich. The poppy bagel with cream cheese that we shared was more satisfying. They also get points off for not having any alternative milks. You have a veggie patty, so clearly you have considered vegetarians, but bagels are generally a breakfast food and you don't consider plant based milks? Not a single container of soy or almond or oak? I call that a fail. Still, it's a decent facsimile of a NY bagel. Have been going to Bodos for decades. I always get the same things: lox and cream cheese on a bagel or bagels with a tub of lox spread. I began to notice that there was not much lox anymore in the L/CC Bagel. But it was still decent and just ok value for money. Two days ago I purchased Bagels and a tub of lox spread. Folks, don't even bother with this tub: it is mostly cream cheese and a tiny bit of lox. You don't even taste lox .... Just cream cheese. I hope they aren't skimping on the other spreads. If they want to increase their bottom line or hold it steady, they need to serve more people. With limited seating and only two registers, it will be a challenge. Why not set up a To-Go service where you call in or make an order online and pay and then just pop in to get your order? No waiting in line. Easy. Keep the quality of the Bodos products, increase the traffic and income will increase. Anyone else noticing a change in quality? read more

Bodo's Blogels. One of the one and only Bagel Shops and chains in C-ville. I may have been spoiled with the bagel shop variety in NYC, but when everyone hyped this placed up as a solid bagel place in Charlottesville, I know I had to try. After my first visit, I have been back ever since. I love their herbs cream cheese and jalapeno cream cheese which all pair well with the everything bagel. Lines on weekends and mornings before football and baskeball game days are out the door and into the street. I woudl recommend coming here in the off hours. I have also trieed their BEC-als (Bacon Egg and Cheese Bagels) which are pretty solid. While reasonably affordable, they do lack the size and quality you can get in NYC. A very solid Bodo's location! Bodo's is somewhat of a Charlottesville tradition, with locals all having their own favorite orders. Many of the events I've attended in my five years of living here have been catered by Bodo's! The bagels are always warm and have the perfect texture, a warm chewy bread with a great near-crisp. This location is much faster than the place on Emmett, and tend to be less crowded than right on the UVA Corner. I love how fast the service is, how inexpensive the meals are, and how fresh and filling! There are just so many options. One of my favorites is just a classic egg on whole wheat with Swiss, or whatever cheese I feel like. I think the whole wheat bagel adds a great chew and texture, making the simple egg and cheese more hearty. I also love the cinnamon raisin with butter and jam. They always add the perfect amount of butter - TONS. The bagel carries all the butter it can, and the sweet jam perfectly contrasts the salted butter and the chewy bagel. There are tons of possible combinations and orders of course, but I thought I'd give a couple suggestions for any out-of-towners or first timers.
