I'm writing this review in this best manner I can. I (really can't )rate this b/c the star I'm looking for is falling. I went to RIVERS BEND GRILL, looking for that good ole cooking, but what I got was a mouth full of regret that cost me $53.00. If you choose to go here its b/c your a local & must be drinking. What I got was a combo called " make it yourself", so off of the menu online I first tried to make a order, come to find out that it the prices was wrong and the list was old. so I tried to go simple (in the short time I had on the phone). I ordered rock fish, crab cake, baked potato, shrimp, coleslaw, and got hushpuppies with it. The crab cake had too much filler(and something that left a bad aftertaste), the rock fish had an ok taste(first timer), the hushpuppies was big which is GOOD but the middle wasn't all the way done. The shrimp was good (but really how can you mess shrimp up), the baked potato was just as is, even though I asked for cheese & and butter, all I got was a potato wrapped in foil with a cup of melted butter. I didn't even make it to the coleslaw which seem to be an ok thing to the rest of the meal. Alright lets get to the good stuff I had crab bite although they cook in old grease they were pretty good. So my meal wasn't a distaste and it took $53.00 to learn this lesson, I'm giving it to you for free so choose wisely( but also have your own experience but keep note of some things I spoke on. read more

My group and I are in school at FT. Lee and we have been trying new places to eat this week. We stopped at River's Bend Grill tonight. I had their Black and Blue burger with onion rings. It was amazing. My other group members got a pizza that was also amazing (lots of meat on the pizza). This place is in a great quiet location and the service is great. This is definitely a place for everyone to visit if you like good American food for a great price. My meal without drink only cost $11.00 with tax. I'm am definitely saving this address. read more

I wasn't able to enjoy any of their food, but the drinks and atmosphere are excellent. They have a few TV's so you can catch the game and a spacious patio to enjoy the ever-changing Virginia weather. Well we have been here a couple of times for lunch. I'll say this before I get started they make one mean Ruben sandwich. Okay now on to tonight's dinner, when we walked in we were immediately seated and asked for our drink orders. We each ordered cokes and we proceeded to look the menu over and came to a decision. My wife chose the beef tips over rice and, myself the blackened tuna steak with onion straws and cole slaw with hush puppies. Now it took about 15 to 20 mins for our food to arrive at our table. My wife's dish was very good and mine well the tuna, put it this way I've had much better. It was a bit over seasoned but edible the onion straws and hush puppies were good. The cole slaw was a little water'e but had a decent flavor. Our drinks never got empty and the wait staff were very friendly and helpful. But I think this place is better for lunch then it is for dinner. So when I go back for a lunch will see how it goes, if it is as good as it use to be then maybe move up a star. read more

So incredibly disappointed! I decided to go to the Food Lion closer to my home today and grabbed some stuff. Saw this place across the parking lot and thought it looked really nice since it was in a great neighborhood. Move forward to tonight...had some places to hit up and I was STARVING around 8. My husband and I usually pick random new restaurants on Fri or Sat and check them out in the area and/or in Richmond. I told him this place was in Chester near Pizza, wings n' things so he was like yeah! Definitely! and got all excited! So, we went into this experience excited and eager! We pulled up at about 9 and it looks really nice outside. As we walked up to the door, I saw that the restaurant closed at 10. I figured an hour would be alright and enough time for us to eat and bounce. We walked in and the decor as kind of blah; neither a dive nor upscale--just very blah. We were seated immediately and there weren't that many people in there. Our drinks took awhile for sodas, but it was okay. Put our order in--We ordered mozzarella sticks out first. I got a pork chop with a baked potato, also got a side of soup as my 2nd side because I didn't want anything and my husband wanted some soup. The waitress went to walk away before my husband could order---then he added that he wanted a French dip. The food didn't take incredibly long which was good. Our drinks went empty which irked me, but they were filled after that. Here's where this place lost us! The food came and we were like nom nom nom! My baked potato was wonderful which is why I give this place one star...because it was really good, but my pork chop tasted like what I would think dog food would taste like. I thought maybe my taste buds were off so I asked my husband to try it...His stomach started hurting despite spitting most of it into a napkin from his bite. He hardly ate his food as he said everything was over-peppered and that it was so spicy--it was practically inedible. Before I could even try the pork chop though and when I was half way through my baked potato--the waitress brought the check. I thought it was extremely rude. I'm halfway through my main course and you ask if I want a togo box and/or dessert!? I get that it was 20 minutes until close, but...I feel that was extremely rude and I immediately was pissy and didn't care to know about whatever desserts they had. We "finished" quickly...aka gutted my baked potato. We left and there is a Sheetz across the street where my husband got sick and we both had to inhale some Tums. I am super bummed because I was hoping for something yummy and I got something that made me throw up instead. Hit up Pizza, wings n' things across the street instead...or even Sheetz! read more

Good local place for home style food. I had the ribs, which I knew wouldn't be true smoked ribs, but I'm always on the look-out for good ribs. Anyway, they were very tender, fall off the bone. The sauce was a good sweet/tangy balance. They were obviously cooked slow in an oven, but finished off on the grill. Baked potato was what you'd expect, loaded with butter and sour cream. There are a number of beers on tap, ice cold, and refreshing. There are enough items on the menu to convince me to go back and try it again and again. Overall, definitely check it out if you are tired of your usual place, if for no other reason to support the local businesses. read more

First and last time I will visit. The hostess was not there when we walked in.. And we waited to be noticed and seated for a while. Everyone's food came out at a different time. Mine came out last.. I ordered a cheeseburger and it took over 45 minutes to receive. They weren't that busy, but my other two friends were about finished with their meal when mine finally arrived. read more

We are just wrapping up a "Baby-Q party for my son and daughter-in-law and a group of great friends and family here to celebrate the happy occasion with us. Although we've been frequenting River's Bend Grill for quite a while ( the best Long Island Ice Tea and Saturday night prime ribwe've had) we've never had them provide catering. Well, it was awesome! Cindy was so easy to work with as far as ordering and great service by Brock with the delivery and set up. Everyone commented on how great the food was. Enjoyed the wings recently. Great twist on buffalo meets barbecue. My husband and I think of our selves as wing snobs. We weren't disappointed. That's all we had so can't speak to other food. We sat at the bar and the staff was friendly and attentive. Would certainly come back for wings. read more

Was driving through the area and needed something to eat, this is where I landed. When I pulled in, there was a rowdy group out on the patio drinking and having a good time, but the restaurant was quiet and dark. Which was fine with me, I didn't come for a party, I just wanted a sandwich. Like usual, I headed straight to the restroom to wash my hands and see how clean it was. (This is my reference point for kitchen cleanliness, as they are typically the same standards). It was spotless! So, the friendly waitress seated me and my friend promptly, got us drinks and up to speed on the menu, specials, etc. I ordered the French Dip with home cut fries and iced tea, my buddy ordered the grilled tuna sandwich and fried onion straws (or whatever they were called, basically onion rings, but not cut in circles) and a beer. The French Dip was the perfect amount of beef and bubbly melted cheese on a crispy french roll. It came with the usual bowl of au jus which I dipped my sandwich in, then proceeded to drink like nobody was watching. It was delicious. I'm sure it was just the normal beef bullion, but it tasted better than most and I enjoyed it. The fries were crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. They were perfect! My friend however, grumbled about the tuna he requested 'med-rare' had arrived 'well done'. He ate it simply because he was too hungry to send it back. He said it was good, just overcooked and not worth making an issue over. I tasted the onion strips, they were good, had a nice crunch. I had a pretty bad experience here today. It's a Saturday night and there were about 2 parties other than mine there, so it wasn't especially busy. It took some time before the waitress came back after we placed our drink order, but since it was my first time here I dismissed it and kept an open mind. We ordered the Fried Mushrooms as our appetizer. They were pretty plain and came in a fry basket with a plastic cup of blue cheese. It wasn't anything spectacular, and was a little dry. I ordered the Ribeye steak and my partner ordered the Tuna steak. My steak came back and was 50% fat, and extremely thin. There was a patch of fat about an inch wide running down one side, and the top half of the steak was almost entirely fat. This doesn't mention the patches of fat there were littered throughout the steak. It was completely inedible. The Tuna steak was dry, despite being ordered medium rare, and hadn't been seasoned at all. We each got the baby asparagus as our side dish. The asparagus we got was just the stems of each piece. Some pieces were mushy while others were very hard to chew, and the whole dish was greasy. When the waitress returned, I let her know that the steak was too bad to eat. She said she would have a new one made and left quickly. I ended up telling her to just cancel the steak and take it off of our tab, because if the chef was fine serving the first one to a customer, I didn't think much would change. We asked for our check, and left shortly after. No manager came over to apologize or offer any sort of consolation. read more

The hubby and I normally go to River's Bend every Thursday night for Long Island Ice Tea night. Lucky for us, this great place is nearby. Hands down, the best Long Island Ice Tea I've had and I've had more than my share! We decided to go last night because house repairs left us without water and other amenities and we needed a distraction. This place amazes me with its consistency in food and service. The teriyaki wings are so yummy. The house salad here is unlike any other. Not just a hunk of lettuce with dressing but cherry tomatoes, onions, croutons, boiled egg, etc. The prime rib special on Saturdays is amazing. Not to mention, when they see us coming our drinks automatically appear. Brock, Jess, Ben and everyone else keep us coming back. read more

I had the best $4 buffalo chicken salad today for lunch. Unfortunately RBG charged me $9.00 for it. Had it been an adult portion it would have been great. I was there with co-workers so I didn't complain to the manager. If you like small portions than this is your restaurant. Taste was good but don't believe the pictures in the menu. I was excited to try this place, but wasn't impressed. A co worker and I went to get a pick up order. The wait time was ok considering we were already on the way when we placed the order. The burgers were supposed to be medium well, but they were both rare. Coworker wanted fried green beans but originally was told she couldn't order them. Then he said she could order them for $3.50 extra which she was fine with but didn't want to wait since the burgers were about to come out. There was a lady who ordered chicken that came to pick up her order and she was upset that they weren't cooked well, but she didn't have time to wait for them to be cooked again, but I didn't see her order that it just based on what I heard. I've been going to RBG with my friends and family for years now, and I have yet to leave there disappointed. It's location is convenient for those in the area as well as those passing through, since it's so close to 95 and 295! The staff is always so friendly and the service is quick - but the FOOD is the real reason to go!! My favorite time to go is Saturday morning/afternoon because of their KILLER breakfast...it is literally the best. But if you're more of a dinner fan, you will be just as pleased. Not to mention there's a great bar that is semi separate from the table side!! I have also attended private events in their banquet room... Bottom line, RBG has it all! read more

Attended a x-mas party there and the salad they provided was turning brown and spoiling. Other than that, the staff is very friendly and accommodating and the other quick meals (sandwiches) are standard across the board. Beer selection (always gotta mention the beer) is limited to the standard stuff found anywhere, nothing to write home about. read more

Visiting Chester to see my boyfriend. His family and I ordered from this restaurant and it was pretty decent. I got the chicken tenders, Caesar salad, and the loaded baked potato. The chicken tenders seemed very fresh and full of chicken and not just breading. The salad was tasty and since we ordered our food for pick up, all the condiments that were supposed to go on my potato were in one container.. Which was weird but it did the job. Boyfriend got the philly cheese steak and said it was good. Boyfriends dad got the blt and he said it was delicious. Very good establishment all in all. read more

Food was poor. Rated well so figured give it a shot. Upon entering, sat at bar, staff was friendly and did a great job. That's were they earned the rating. Ordered Blackened tuna sandwich and fries tuna was bland. No more flavor than black pepper. French fries cold and over cooked some burnt. Would not recommend. read more

We recently visited this restaurant for a second time hoping it had changed from our first visit a few years back. It hasn't. We were there on a Thursday evening for dinner. There were only two other tables seated. We ordered and about 45 minutes later the waitress notices us looking around and at our watches. She goes in the back and comes back to tell us that it was shift change and our food was slightly delayed but, it shouldn't be too much longer. When our food came out it didn't look right. The coleslaw looked old and brown. The shrimp was over seasoned and over cooked. The hush puppies were like bricks, but still had good flavor. The scallops were bad, as in rotten. They were heavily seasoned, odd colored and as soon as I put it in my mouth I had to spit it out. They smelled so bad. The waitress never refilled our drinks. When she came back out to give us our check she asked if I needed a box for my full order or scallops. At first I wasn't going to say anything but I didn't want them feeding these to anyone else. So I told her they were bad and she asked if I wanted anything else. I didnt, I was afraid to I order anything else. She said they removed them from the line and adjusted our bill. They had to know they were bad when they cooked them. They had to smell them. Please don't go here. read more

i ate at this place yesterday. you will do well to go somewhere else. i ordered the 8 oz. rib eye and told the server i would like it cooked medium. it was presented to me approximately 1 centimeter thick and could not have been cooked medium because of the thickness (cooked 30-35 seconds on each side could only result in well done.) i suspect this cut, which could not have been anything close to 8 oz., was intended to be for a steak sandwich. the server never mentioned that anything other than well done would be impossible. never again. at one time, this place might have been ok, but if you look at the more recent reviews, you can see that it has gone downhill. read more

My husband and I eat at River's Bend Grill a couple times a week. My husband has to go every Saturday for Prime Rib which he says is the best prime rib around here. The Au Jus is delicious! The fried butterfly shrimp is awesome, and also the best chicken strips! French fries are delicious too. Really good hamburgers, and wraps. Great friendly service. I recommend they branch out and serve more of a selection of vegetable sides. I'm tired of green beans (Cindy) HAHA Some corn or lima beans would be a nice change. OMG!!! Ordered a glass of wine and two salads. Waited 30 minutes for the wine. Over 1 hour for food. Saw people come in after us. Order, eat, and leave before we got food. Manager came out and said they didn't have clean wine glasses and only had 4 little fryers. We didn't have anything fried except fries. Acted like I wasn't telling the truth about people coming and going before we got food. Food then was ice cold (meat on salad and fries). Manager was loud and condescending. It was busy but we were seated right away. Second time this has happened to me there. Another waitress was heard making disrespectful comments under her breath. Excellent local restaurant. I haven't had anything on the menu I did not enjoy. All of the sandwiches and burgers are excellent, along with the create your own seafood combo. The staff is friendly and pleasant willing to commandant the customer in anyway possible. They also have a decent beer selection, draft and bottle. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat. Ordered a Philly steak and cheese. Bit into it and down on a toothpick lying inside the sandwich. The waitress sent the manager out...a young dark-haired man who asked if I forgot to take the toothpick out...really!! Tried again last night and the food was horrible as was the service. Cold appetizer came out after the meal was served. Food dropped off and waitress did not return until she dropped the check off and first offer of drink refills after we finished eating...too busy socializing with her friends.
