Booked a room after seeing they were pet friendly, called to let them know we were traveling with a small pet -- they called more than FIVE HOURS later, at 10:13pm when we were almost there to let us know the room I'd booked that was available wouldn't accommodate pets. Website doesn't mention anything of the sorts - it actually states quite the opposite, "As dog-friendly hotel in Bend, Oregon you can count on Riverhouse on the Deschutes to always accept and embrace your four-legged friends." Load of crap. We learned obviously far too late this is not the case... Called La Quinta who gladly accommodated our little dog. read more

My dad and I checked in at 9pm on Friday night after traveling and being out all day. They didn't have the room with 2 queen beds that we had reserved through Southwest Airlines. Instead the woman at the front desk said she had no control over "third party" bookings and there was nothing she could do. She offered an upgraded room over the one we had reserved for another $130 bringing the total to nearly $400. This is not a 5-star hotel, mind you. This resembles a remodeled motel with half the rooms with a quaint view of the river and the other half overlooking the parking lot. The $400 room they offered us was overlooking the parking lot. All in all, they are not a fancy hotel and do not honor the reservations we all make through all the websites out there that actually help us find hotels in places we've never been. We were so excited to stay in a beautiful hotel on the river and enjoy a late evening dip in the hot tub under the stars. We had a great weekend in Bend. Most people seemed very fit and outdoorsy (northwest types). We expected to find more of these people at the hotel. Nope. After leaving the wonderful part of Bend, we drove out to the middle of blah-ville to find our hotel. This hotel is outdated, bland, and full of all-American Midwest corn fed families. The chlorine smelling pool (and hot tub) were full of kids. The 20yo brown hallway carpets are a real bore and very dirty. The toilet in the room. Oh boy! Almond color corner toilet with a white seat. Our river view was nice. That cost us a lot more. read more

Talk about bullshit. I reserved a room based in part on the lovely picture of a pool under a canopy of trees. It's not there. I mean, it's there, but it's just a big gaping hole in the ground with caution tape around it waiting for a lawsuit to fall in it. There was an indoor pool on the premises that I took the kids to instead, but thanks to the lack of even a keycard reader at the door, there were homeless people bathing in it. I could tell they were happy with the guest towels. So, whatever. What's a couple transients in the pool? Our room was on the second floor overlooking the river, which was really a great place to have a room. The room had a fireplace that had not been used properly by some past guest, so the room had a nice sooty aroma to it - kind of like the linens had spent a few hours in a meat smoker. Still, it was not something you couldn't get used to. My biggest problem with this place was none of these things. Not the falsely advertised spa-like pool, not the communal bathing for the less fortunate, not the hickory-smoked bed sheets. My problem was that we were traveling with three young kids. I had reserved a rollaway bed when I booked the room, but it wasn't there when we arrived. I called down to the front desk and spoke with Jeffery who assured me one would be right up. We went out to dinner, came back and the kids were ready for bed. Only no rollaway. So I called again. Jeffrey told me again that it would be right up. I literally had this exchange a total of five times over two hours. "It'll be right there." On the fifth call, I offer to come get it myself, but am informed that's not necessary. We're at a little past ten o'clock at night and still no extra bed. Then the phone rings. Surprise! It's Jeffrey! "Hello, sir?" he says. "I've received a call from the room below yours that your kids are being too loud and the guest below you is trying to sleep." WTF. I can tolerate a lot of human error, but the management staff at this hotel so far exceeded my limits for incompetence and bad manners that I wanted to punch somebody in the face. I reminded Jeffrey that I had been trying to put my kids to bed for two f***ing hours, that I would LOVE to have them in bed, but I NEEDED A F***ING ROLLAWAY! And what do you know. One showed up two minutes later. I so wanted to burn this place down as I drove away. read more

We stayed at this hotel weekend of August 16th for a wedding. The reception and venue was perfect and the people were awesome.....except the thugged out girl with the bandana and bad makeup. She was flat out rude. The did try to accommodate a request for our family for my grandmother. Onto the horrible and bad!! We showed up to our room about 11pm or so after the wedding. We stayed and helped clean up things even. Went to go out our door to the river and I stepped on something on the carpet. Turned on the lights and low and behold the carpet was all torn up by the sliding glass door. Started looking around the room more and found a hole in the corner of the room by the heating air unit. There was Sheetrock and insulation all over the floor. I walked to front desk and complained that there was obviously and animal in the room. They said they will check in morning. Went back to room and told my fiancé this and we shoved a pillow in the hole cause we were not sure what caused it. 5:30am I woke up to something crawling across the carpet. I could hear it's nails. It was a chipmunk. We all freaked out including my daughter and were standing on beds and screaming. It hid behind the dresser/tv holder and refused to go outside. At this point we have barely slept and not to mention it was my birthday. We were pretty upset. My fiancé went to front desk and an older lady said it was the first time ever this had happened that she knew of on 16 years. They offered to give us a few nights comped for future visit. He turned her down and flat out said we will never be returning. She said the most she could give was $50 off the room. What a rip off. We were cleared out of the room by 7am. This was the worst customer service u have experienced ever. Chipmunks carry diseases and the thing had obviously been in the room for some time to do that much damage. We won't ever go back and have told friends to stay other places than here!!!! read more

We had a wonderfully pleasant stay at the Riverhouse on the Deschutes. We didn't book a special river view room or anything either. The rooms were clean, spacious, and well decorated. You can tell the decor is a bit older as it looks well used but that didn't distract from the quality. The little patio was great and we could see the pools from there as well. The location is great as there are lots of restaurants and shops close by in walking distance. We used the pools in the evening which are very clean, spacious and heated! This was the best place we stayed on our 4 night trip through oregon. The only thing that wasn't so great was the parking lot. It is very confusing and cramped to drive through. This is obviously due to the location next to the river. Overall, wonderful stay and would definitely be back. This would be a great place to stay with young children/family. read more

I think if I come back I would give it more stars (maybe we will see) so I made my reservation and drove 3 hours to the hotel for the night, got there and they double booked my room so it was already rented, they gave us a double Queen with no river view! my gift certificate was for a river view room and breakfast for two. I was not happy being ther person who got me the gift card basically got ripped off! I just stayed anyways being I drove 3 hours to stay there. To topbot off we ordered our breakfast for room service and it came cold and not even what we orderd also with no eating utensils! it took 15 min for them to come back with the utensils by the time they got back the food was colder than when it arrived so I sent it back with the server! NOT ONCE IN THIS WHOLE MESS UP ON THEIR PART ON WVERY DIRECTION HAVE I BEEN OFFERED ANY COMPENSATION, not for their doulble booking my room and still charging me with my gift certificatite for a lesser room than what the person who purchased the gift for me paid and nothing for the ice cold wrong breakfast order I received! For as nice as this place triea to be they are terrible at customer service and booking rooms! hopefully the manger will make this right! I will say the rooms are nice and the hotel is nice. The restaurant had amazing food the night we went for dinner. But it would have been better if I got what was paid for or compensation for driving for 3 hours and getting screwed out if the room I booked! read more

Stayed here on a whim after realizing our campsite was an hour out of the way (my fault). The front desk service was amazing, she gave us a room on the river as a Newlywed upgrade. We went to dinner at Currants, service was wonderful and as my husband says "best halibut he's ever had" Apparently they have renovated the property.... well worth the price. This place definitely needs updating both in looks and smells. The lobby and restaurant are decorated in 80s modern and have that icky smell of old booze and cigarettes. I am sure my room WAS a smoking room a while ago--you just can't ever get that smell out. Pros: Comfy bed, lots of room. Quiet, even though I was on the road side and not the river side. Cons: Very poor wi-fi. Mold in the bathroom grout. Bathtub clogged. Ice and snow in the parking lot not cleaned up--I had a heckuva time getting my car out. Breakfast was pretty standard, but WHY can't restaurants use real eggs instead of that powdered flavorless yellow stuff they call eggs? Also...they gave me keys to a room, and the keys didn't work in the card slot. I was freezing but called the office on my cell phone because I didn't want to haul my stuff back down the stairs. They came up, tested them, and said "Yep, those don't work." I stayed out in the cold while the guy went to the office to get me another room. The next day, I saw no less than 3 different sets of people trying to get into that room where the keys didn't work. Get a clue, Riverhouse front desk! read more

The Riverhouse is set along the river and if you get a room facing the river with a balcony, you will feel a world away (actually Bend is a world way) from the big city. The hotel needs some updating although it does look like it was one of the nicer ones in the area, i.e. the Shilo Inn next door. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms are on the dark side and my hair dryer actually blew a fuse while I was there. The beds are not the softest but sheets were clean. It is only a short distance to white water rafting, skiing, hiking, and all other things outdoor for Central Oregon. read more

We stayed here for two days and were pleased with our room. The free breakfast buffet was awesome (I booked this place based on that alone). I think the biggest pain was that they don't have elevators to get to the second floor! They said they could get someone to help us with our luggage, but I am sooooo sick of tipping people for these kinds of things, so I lugged it upstairs myself, which wasn't easy. Check in was guaranteed for 4pm, was finally allowed into a dirty room at 6pm. The guarantee was only valid on non-busy days as I was told "sorry there is nothing we can do" by the manager. Nothing like waiting with a 5 year old for 2hrs to get a dirty room. Then was told the service staff had left for the day, I could have my money back and find another hotel if I wanted. Breakfast was free, which consisted of mushy eggs and no other options for a vegetarian. Asked to order something and was told the kitchen was closed because it as so busy. For a place focused on tourism it seems like you would plan on busy periods and good customer service, not bad service when you get busy. My family and dogs like to go to places that provide customer service and are willing to work with customers. I have to say that both Rocky (Manager) and Kevin (market director) lack people/customer service skills. Don't ever buy a gift certificate from them, you would never be able to use it...... So many silly restrictions !!! We were given this for a gift and due to the so called management was not able to use it. I was pretty shocked on how we were treated I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. We love the bend area and will continue to spend weekends there just not at this place. Stayed at Riverhouse last week on business. Its a sprawling set of buildings with an ancient weight room, okay pool and dated/dirty rooms. They have decent TVs in the room but if I brought my wife she would have demanded that we go somewhere else. The hotel is in serious need of repairs and I suppose the only saving grace is that the river runs right by and the golf course looked pretty good. The breakfasts were okay but not Embassy Suites territory. The restaurant on site has a nice deck overlooking the river but was unimpressive (I ordered a porterhouse). For the same price I would have rather stayed at larger chain hotel but thought I would give this a shot. If you have a family and are not too picky about cleanliness, room quality and just want to dump your kids in the pool and eat a free breakfast I could not fault you to stay here and would possibly add a star or two from that perspective. If you are a germ freak, like clean rooms or are used to Marriott and Hiltons do not stay at Riverhouse. read more

There's nothing funky about my trips to Bend - I keep having to come back to Bend for business travel and have decided to keep this hotel as the one I'll be using. There are some interesting hotel options here - outside of the boxes with names on the outside and fruit loops inside. You know waht I mean? This hotel was the site of a conference here in Bend, so I decided to stay here as well and give up on the brand points so that I might find a more rounded experience. Tried out this hotel and it works. I play a lot of tennis and brought my racquet. Found some other folks at the breakfast buffet (yes, they've got one, too) for games. All good. Got runs in along the river in the morning and kept running into one big egret sort of bird on the river. Sorry, bird. The conference center here worked well for the meeting day, All was good. My husband and I selected the Riverhouse because we liked its position right on the Deschutes River. We requested a river view room and were told by the very friendly desk clerk that we would be in a nice river view room (#4203) in the newest part of the hotel, which is located across a footpath on the other side of the river. Upon arriving in our room, we were very pleased with the generous size and the cleanliness, a benefit of it being newly built. But we were subsequently disappointed, when we stepped out on the balcony, by the lack of river view that we had paid extra for. Theoretically, it could be classified as a river view, although the view was mostly blocked by trees. The room itself was very spacious and comfortable, so no complaints there. And the lobby and bar area were welcoming. I will return to the Riverhouse, but next time I'll request a first floor room in the original part of the hotel where the river flows unobstructed right off of your balcony. read more

I didn't give then one star because of location and the river view. But that's the best they offer. The rooms are dated and just don't feel clean enough, uncomfortable beds, mold in the shower, no wine glasses in the kitchen room, older TV's without sleep timers, cracked glass at the bar, uncleaned shrimp appetizer, mediocre guest breakfast with powdered eggs, hugely overpriced dinner menu, the jets in the covered/indoor spa didn't work and the outdoor spa was tepid at best. This place was special once. But I've stayed at nicer Best Westerns. The Shilo right next door is a little nicer and a bit more affodable. They need to make some major improvements. read more

So many irritations! 1. THIS IS NOT THE ROOM I BOOKED. Not only was it not ready at check in time it's NOT the room I booked. Don't tell me I'm wrong when your phone agent CLEARLY fucked up. Thank god I don't have to dispute this charge because you at least charged me correctly for this sub par dwelling. 2. Why do I feel like if I sneeze this building is going to catch fire from shoddy wiring? Because it is. The outlets are what I call "slutty" ...because they are so loose! Nothing you plug in is going to stay in them, so smash your iPad charger in with the table so it stays. Also the lamps don't care what level of dimness WE set them at, it's time for a strobe light party!! 4. This bed is one good plop from crumbling to bits, so don't try and roll over... The squeaks might wake your neighbors.... In Portland! 5. Children, children, children.... Everywhere. Running through the halls ghost knocking on doors (where are your parents?). Children running a muck in the parking lot during the busiest time without a care in the world that every other guest is trying to park! Children running around in the adult lounge. Children unattended and being wild hideous animals while their drunk parents sleep by the pool (with glassware, which is against ALL pool rules EVERYWHERE). Little Susie is practicing her handstand on the edge of the hot tub and kicking your face! So relaxing! Where is her mom? 6. Want to take a soothing bath? The plumber must have stopped at some of the amazing breweries in town because you have to run the shower head to fill the toddler sized tub, full sized adults beware. Maybe he was too busy smoking the green. 7. Where is the WiFi? We were told "it just stopped working a few weeks ago." How about you call Geek Squad and they fix it? Duh. Even the coffee pot is 400 years old, so makes sure ALL room guests have risen from their slumber before starting to brew up your cup... You might frighten them, it sounds like heavy thunder overhead. Sadly the best and only draw to this place was the river view rooms (which he careful... Make sure that if you ask for a fireplace room, you get one) The customer is not always right here. read more

My review is based 90% on the staff ... they were terrific!! I didn't end up staying here - though the room I did see into looked very comfy and was overlooking the river. I did however have the chance to charge my electric car (Tesla only charging at the moment) this past afternoon. The engineering team, the front desk team and even the laundry team who moved their van so I could park and charge were very, very friendly and helpful with my needs. I appreciated their willingness to help me out and would definitely look to stay there when in Bend again (stayed with relatives this time). read more

I stayed at the hotel on March 29 and 30, 2018. I've stayed there in the past and found it to be lovely and clean. I was looking forward to a pleasant family weekend. When we arrived, our room was not ready, though it was past the stated 4:00 arrival time. I checked in and gave the clerk my cell number, and they said they'd call me when the room was ready. Ok, fine, that wasn't a big deal. We left, and never got a call or text. When we returned at 5:30, our room still wasn't ready. A few minutes later, it was, and I was able to get my family of five to our room. I'd requested a disabled-friendly room, as I have multiple disabilities and was at that time walking with a cane. The room we got was not like the room we had had in the past at all. It was much smaller and at the opposite end of the resort and across the river, very difficult for someone with mobility issues to navigate. Again, ok, fine, changes happen, and I could live with that. I requested a cot (having already asked for one when I originally reserved over the phone a month prior) and was told, "We'll see if we have one, we'll get back to you." However, when we got to our room, it came complete with the dirty underwear and clothing of the previous occupant. It took two calls over a long period of time for the dirty clothing to be removed. We had to leave for dinner and hope that it was gone when we came back.Thank goodness the dirty underwear was gone by later that evening. There was no call, and no cot. My daughter ended up sleeping on the floor both nights of our stay. The next day went by without incident, but the second morning we were woken before 6 am by a screaming profanity match from the room next door. It got so bad that we were concerned for the occupants safety as well as ours. Loud thumping sounded as if someone was being hit and more screaming and crying ensued from what sounded like a woman being attacked. We called the front desk, twice, asking for security or someone to deal with it or we were going to call the police ourselves. It took some time for anyone to get there. Concerned, we took off as soon as we could. I understand the hotel has no control over what happens to an extent, but the lack of care we were shown on every level was frustrating, not to mention that the hotel was not inexpensive. The relaxed family stay I had in mind for my family most certainly did not happen. I travel infrequently and never review things, but I joined Yelp specifically to review this hotel since I was so surprised and disappointed. read more

Checked in, was told wrong time the restaurant and bar closed by 4 hours. Went to have dinner after checked into our room to find it closed. Woke up to come have our complimentary breakfast to be told it would be a 25 minute wait. And that's fine I get it places get busy. Put our name on the list and st down. Only to watch them seat customer after customer in front of us. Me thinking they had reservations. After 35 minutes of waiting I had to ask how much longer. She apparently had not been looking at the list and seating. Everyone that just walked in and there were 8 people in front of us still. They said nothing to make it better and we had to leave to go get breakfast. Not a good experience. Won't be staying here again. Sad :( read more

By reading the website and seeing pictures, we thought this was a nice hotel. The $300 plus per night cost should have confirmed that. Beware. We had problems from check-in. We asked to check in early. They had no rooms clean. Fine. They would call us when ready. When they called we went to get our key and ended up walking in on a man. They double booked us. Thank goodness for the one person there who seemed to know what she was doing. She helped us get a new room. I think she may have been a supervisor. They did give us free breakfast to make up so kudos for that. This is a motel rather than a hotel, with doors opening to the outside. Had we known that, we wouldn't have booked. That's just trashy in my opinion. Rooms were large but run down and felt dirty. The bed was comfortable. However, I didn't get any sleep because we were apparently put in a dog room and I am severely allergic. I was sick every time we returned to the room and all night so got no sleep. We ended up leaving at 6 am on check out day because I was miserable. They also didn't clean our room until 5 the first night. $650 for fewer than 36 hours. Ridiculous!!! Oh, and I cannot forget the two spiders we found in our room, one being as big as a quarter with hairy legs. Disgusting!!! read more

In mid-July, this was a last minute stop to stay in Bend, Oregon. There were many choices, but since we wanted to have an indoor pool and they accepted CSAA discount we ended up at the Riverhouse. Check in was pleasant and very informing. The room to our surprise was very spacious, which is what we needed after staying three nights in a cramped 4 star hotel in Washington. Also, I want to add that the room had a nice fragrant smell as you walk in. It was very, very clean and I have high standards. The Pool/Sauna/Fitness center was very enjoyable and for our hot breakfast, it was pretty impressive and had practically everything you would want to eat for breakfast. Well worth the cost of the room! Lastly, the view of the river and hotel grounds has a great outdoor feel. Definately, would come back if we ever are in Bend, Oregon again! read more

We had a great two night stay here. We are heading back home to the Bay Area from a wedding in Portland. We had a room on the second floor overlooking the river, 2224. The room was spacious with two really comfortable queen beds and a great view of the river. The hotel looks recently remodeled. All the amenities are a little extra, Keurig coffee maker, very soft towels, nice toiletries. The lounge is really nice, looks very recently remodeled, with tables overlooking the river. I recommend the flat bread pizza and Mac n cheese. They have two pools, one indoor and one outdoor. Indoor pool has full lap lane which was a nice treat to work off all the food we have been eating on this trip. Place is dog friendly. This was a great find. read more

And a gentleman named Anthony answered (!), heard me out, took it upon himself to correct the issue I was having, and the issue was resolved within a couple hours. Some hits and misses. Not much of a "resort", just a motel on steroids. Restaurant pretty pricy for the locale, and when we were there quite a few he-man beer drinker/sportsmen in T shirts guffawing and getting grizzly as the night wore on. Rooms pretty ordinary, but clean. We had a river view, which was very pleasant (without the view, I'd certainly stay elsewhere). Gotta try their chocolate 'sack' dessert (feeds at least 4-6 people). City of Bend was great to walk around, with its thriving downtown. Not a lot to do, but a good place to relax, bike, fish, and get grizzly. read more

The bedspread had a gross plastic feeling to it, I could not believe we paid as much as we did for such a disgusting room. The breakfast was ok, but not great. The good: - Comfy Beds, new linens - Nice flatscreen TV that will let you plug in things like a Roku - Fast, good internet - Price isn't TOO high. - Bathroom was nicely appointed, great shower! - Pool was nice. The Bad: - if you get a river view room, you're find. If you are on the other side of the buildings and on the ground floor, you get to deal with cars right outside your sliding door. - The maids make a LOT of noise every day. They have walkie talkies on their carts, and keep the volume way high... so at 7:30 in the morning, it sounded like a SWAT team was getting ready out in the hallway. Everyday. - Downstairs units are subject to a lot of noise from people upstairs... not very sound proof at all. If you are looking for peace and quiet, you won't find it here. If you just want a place to stay, and are going to get an early start and not be in the room during the day, it's a great option. However, the rooms are very uncomfortable during the day, noisy staff is everywhere on both the hallway side of the door, and the parking lot side. For the same price, you can do better in Bend. Check out the Pine Ridge Inn... very nice and quiet. (it was full, so I stayed at the Riverhouse). read more

TL;DR tips: 1: Do not pre-pay. You may not get what you pay for. 2: Do not book through a 3rd party. You may not get what you booked. 3: Do not come here specifically for the hotel view/amenities. You may be very, very disappointed. 4: Have a backup plan. So... It is not astounding to see they have such a low star review on yelp. It's clear that people either have amazing, serendipitous experiences or disappointing expensive experiences, and which you'll get is a gamble. Or maybe booking at the last minute is the way to go? My husband and I did not come to Bend to golf. We did not come to hike. We came to stare at the Deschutes river and enjoy an in-room "plunge pool". I'm 6.5 months pregnant. It's a pregnant person's vacation. The first time in 3 years my husband and I have been able to get away without our other child. Crushing disappointment ahead. I booked a river-view room through a 3rd party (and that is on me, my mistake, I own that). Pre-paid. Arrived, hotel said we booked a property view room. Property view means parking lot view. Not only did we not receive the room we asked for, it was the room right next to the pool utility room. The check in manager did not think "Hmm, their reservation got messed up, maybe right next to pool utility room isn't optimal." or "Maybe the really pregnant lady might not appreciate staying next to a vat of whatever is used on pools now days." Since we booked through a 3rd party, they couldn't refund any amount of money. At first they tried to tell us that sometimes 3rd parties charge more than they hotel does for certain rooms. Apparently $150/night more? I had to show them our reservation receipt. But seriously, who charges that much for the room they gave us? There were no river-view rooms available. The hotel was overbooked. Fine. Nothing to do about that. But next to the pool utility room was salt in wounds. At least they were able to move us to a different room. Trying to sort out the room rate has been impossible. 3rd party thinks we need to do it through the hotel. Hotel thinks we need to do it through 3rd party. I could buy a very nice new baby stroller and car seat for the amount we're being overcharged. We probably won't come back to Bend. We definitely will not come back here. And we won't be booking hotels through 3rd party websites. read more

I have stayed here before and I will again but this last stay was very disappointing in one major area. Customer service was very poor. My wife was here for a conference and I was her tag along. We came a few days early to do some camping and hiking in this beautiful central Oregon. The morning of the conference we called to see if we could do an early check in. We were told yes and come on in so we decided to forgo the shower at the campsite we stayed at and my wife could get ready for the conference. When we got there we were told no we could not. We explained our situation but there was no empathy or a chance they would reconsider. My wife asked about a few other things and was told no. My wife ended up freshening up in a bathroom prior to the conference. We found out after that many others who traveled a long ways met with the same resistance. I asked if someone would call me when I could come back and check in. I had to call later in the afternoon and found out the room was ready. But never received a call. I work in an industry that deals with a lot of tourist. And we always try to accommodate our guest. If it's not illegal, a safety issue or unethical then any rule and be bent for the customer. This hotel needs to learn that part of service. And learn to communicate better to their guest. read more
