This place is terrible. The coffee may be roasted in house, but it's not fresh. I had espresso that has clearly gone sour prepared by a barista who took just enough time away from her conversation about how hungover she was to adjust her nose ring and make my beverage. The coffee here used to be good, but this coffee had begun to spoil. When I attempted to get a refund, I was told the new owner was a "tight@ss" who didnt allow refunds. So...you charge me 4.50 for a coffee made with sour beans and no refund? Do yourself a favor. STAY AWAY! read more

The coffee here has plenty of room for improvement. I came here more frequently when it opened because the coffee tasted good but now it's like drinking dirt. I'm not sure if it's because I've experience higher quality coffee or not but their roast is not cutting it. The chocolate cookie is good though and the table height to chair height ratio is easy on the back. Some people are saying that 5 Stones has better coffee, maybe they are now but 5 Stones used to have less good coffee. Soulfoods Coffeehouse on the other hand has had consistently good coffee for years and a great ambiance. read more

Having grown up in Redmond, I started going to RTR when it was relatively new to the area and it quickly became my go-to study spot for the weekends or after school. I'd get coffee with friends there and even did a college interview there. First and foremost - the coffee is excellent. As someone who has worked a as a barista, this place makes a good cup of coffee. Also gotta love the price point on the café au laits, makes being a student there quite doable. Secondly, the baristas are all super nice and friendly, happy to give recommendations and always seem quite happy to be doing what they're doing. Finally, the vibe of the place is amazing. With all the natural light from street that is also not that busy, combined with a nice warmth inside (especially when its cold outside), with the addition of a super family friendly environment that means you can look up from your book/screen/etc and see couples on a date, families sharing a pastry, old folk catching up, and the classic Redmond programmer catching up on some work. Absolutely captures the feel of a "Seattle coffeeshop" in all the best ways. Now that I am in college out of state, I look forward to stopping by for some coffee whenever I'm in town. read more

Customer service was incredibly friendly. However, the atmosphere and coffee itself left a bit to be desired. I ordered a half-sweet (thank God) almond milk cardamom caramel latte. 8oz, which (again, thankfully I asked) usually comes with a single shot, but I had them double it. My coffee was still quite sweet, but drinkable, and tasted mostly like caramel-y sugar-y water, which was surprising since there shouldn't have been much room for the almond milk in a double shot 8 oz beverage. But it was watery. I could barely even taste the coffee. Whether that's because the shots pulled weak, or the almond milk wasn't quality/properly steamed, I can't say. The foam seemed fine on it so....I don't know.... Husband got an almond milk chai. Which he enjoyed. The pastry case didn't even tempt me, which is too bad cuz I was in the mood to be tempted. Overall, I don't think I'd go back. 5 stones or Cypress are better shots for good espresso, and Victor's is a better spot for your super sugary drinks. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite coffee shops. Their flavors are fresh and their brew is delicious. I am always appreciative of the great customer service whenever I come in. Everyone is so nice and helpful. They also have a GREAT rewards system and email you discounts every week or so. I love love love the atmosphere for studying. It is cozy and not too loud. The ambiance is pretty quiet and peaceful. They have a few board games you can borrow while you sip. I got a caramel cardamom latte that was absolutely delicious. My husband got the dirty chai latte which was very mild and kinda bland. I agree with another poster who wrote about the expensive $7 sandwiches - these are not freshly made paninis, they are plastic wrapped pre-made sammies that are quite small. I'm not sure about the bad coffee reviews I'm seeing, but I do notice that they typically fall in line with prepared beverages. I only drink single origin coffees and buy my beans directly from the roasters. RTR is one of my usual local roasters. PARKING: Street parking only. This can be a challenge and you may have to walk a ways. DECOR: I would call this an urban lounge or café. I normally make quick visits to only buy beans. I cannot make much comment about the vibe of the place. I would consider this place a great place to read a book, though. BEANS: I don't drink prepared coffee. I buy single origin bags of beans. The roasts consistently lean towards the dark side of medium roasts. My only complaint is that the roaster doesn't show any information on the estate, so you're only left with knowing the region from which the beans came. The roasts are consistent. We typically grab a few bags of the Sumatra, but the last time I was fortunate enough for them to make up a kilo bag for me. SERVICE: The only complaint I have is that the owner doesn't train their staff on knowing the bean's origin other than what's on the bag. Other than that, the staff has always been friendly to me. I've never had a problem with service. As long as the roasts are consistent, I'll continue to buy quantities of beans. RTR is one of two roasters in the Eastside where I'll spend my money. read more

They have really delicious coffee, freshly roasted on premises. It gets very loud and crowded with local business people, so it's not an ideal place to go to work or try to concentrate. (very few outlets also) Overall, I still like dropping in from time to time and getting a decent cup of joe. read more

This café is very close to my office and is a good place for coffee when I get tired of the instant coffee machine at the office and I want to clear my head a bit with a short walk. Sometimes, I like to go there on rainy Saturday afternoons as well. Coffee is pretty good, I guess, but then my coffee palate is hardly sophisticated. As long as coffee isn't bad, I'm happy. The pastries and bagels selection is mediocre, so I only get one when I haven't eaten and need some calories. I'm not rating this establishment on its selection of pastries but rather on its coffee, service and the establishment itself which are all pretty good...all better than the nearby Starbucks in any case. read more

Super cute! They have tons of milk alternatives and options. They do actually roast their own coffee. The Romeo is mocha and raspberry. The Juliet is white mocha with another fruity syrup. And the Valencia is dark mocha and orange. Tons of good food options! Could use more lighting and a community board. On several occasions I have found the staff to be downright rude, either gossiping loudly behind the bar or being snippy or ungracious to guests. The quality of the beverages and food are inconsistent and can be very disappointing; expired coffee, stale or moldy breads. It's not worth the gamble. tldr: good drinks, bad service. The drinks: we got a caramel macchiato, americano, and matcha latte. All tasted great, and the macchiato even had a cute design in the foam. The food: we got a chocolate muffin. It wasn't too sweet and didn't taste like a cupcake which was nice. The service: we ordered all three drinks at the same time, but the guy didn't hear me say "americano" even though he said it right back to me. When we questioned it, he swears he only heard macchiato and wasn't very helpful about it. We had to place another order to get the macchiato. Location is a big deal for me and cafes which are located strategically are my favorites like this one. Strategic location means a struggle for seating but with patience you'll get a good place. My SO likes drip coffee and loves the joe served here. I had the dark mocha and cappuccino and were good. (I personally favor Dilletante for dark chocolate mocha) The food options are limited. I'd like to see bigger muffins but well when on diet you can't eat neither can you dictate :) read more

Came here when I first moved to Redmond last summer, from Seattle. My latter was great and the people who work here made the experience really good. I considered applying to work here, and would have gone through with it if it wasn't for finding another job first. The The ambience was fantastic I really enjoyed reading my book here in front of the fireplace. The coffee however left more to be desired. When I asked for a cappuccino the barista asked me what size I would like. This immediately razed red flags because as all coffee connoisseur know, cappuccinos only come in one size traditionally. I receive my coffee and I had no latte art, it was as if the milk was just thrown into the cup rather than allowing the milk to be mixed slowly with the espresso. as far as taste goes it was nothing special but it was nothing in adequate. I would recommend this place for anyone who is in Redmond and wants a nice coffee shop to read a book and enjoy simple cup coffee. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a third wave coffee shop experience. read more

Just came in and found the new owners had done away with the old rewards system, so all the points I'd racked up had vanished. I got a chai latte that was weak and disappointing. My companion got a cinnamon roll that tasted stale and dry. We got everything to go so too late by the time we realized. A solid strong cold brew and a crew with skills on the machines. I bought a bag of their in shop roast. My batch was a little darker than most medium roast, but still had a balance without too much smoky dark flavor. I like the way it's right by the trail and city hall. I'm increasingly impressed with River Trail Roasters- since opening last year they've continually made (welcomed) changes. Hoffmans and Macrina are the new pastry case suppliers and there are fewer items pre-wrapped in plastic.... legit coffee shops, which RTR is, otherwise, deserve fresh, appealing, non-clammy snack offerings to have with the coffee (note: i'm not arguing the necessity of protecting GF & vegan items from cross-contamination). Highlights: the coffee is solid; chai tea is made in house and the chai tea lattes are more spicy than sweet; there are a whole lot of mochas to choose from; prices are reasonable; there are several alternative milks available; several of the flavor syrups are made in house; the owners and the roaster care a lot. Also: there is a fireplace, decent seating, some board games, and strong wifi. read more

A first-time visit review: Location: Nice location. Quite near the namesake River Trail. Grab a cup and walk to the trail for a sip-n-chat. Inside: Sparse and modern interior means sound travels well. When we were there we shared the place with only a few others. It was occasionally loud. With a few more people it couldn't have helped but be too loud. Menu: Coffee, tea, etc. The usual. Also baked goods, most of which are from Kringles in Redmond. Yum. Service: Friendly service. A spilled tea by a toddler resulted in a quick cleanup by a staffer (requiring 2 substantially soaked towels) who was cheerful about it. (This was nice and she didn't have to do it...we offered because hey..our toddler). Coffee: Excellent. Nice roast and careful pulls made a very nice latte. Drip good too. Bummer: No sugar-free syrups. I have medical need for sugar-free stuff. I've run into only one other shop that doesn't offer ANY. The other shop's reason was that the owner didn't like them. WTF? In this case, they just said they didn't have any. I only assumer that it's a pro-organic thing. I don't know. They DO have Splenda though (the sweetening ingredient in nearly all the available sugar-free syrups), so that's a hmmm.... I won't go back because my coffee of choice has a splash of sugar-free vanilla or hazelnut syrup in it. If this gap in the menu is OK with you then go I guess. read more

As a coffee enthusiast I was pleasantly surprised when I accidentally stumbled across River Trail. I have now been going to River Trail for 2 years and the service is incredible. Even during this difficult time with COVID the staff are doing everything they can to ensure they are following the government mandated regulations. The coffee is great and they are fairly priced for the quality of the product you are getting. Would definitely recommend. read more
