This place is great! It's got a sports bar/casual sort of feel. Most of the time it's easy to walk in and eat without a wait, but it's never empty. The service is friendly. I've been for brunch and dinner and have enjoyed everything I've gotten at either time. Everything is pretty gluttonous -- indulgent comfort food and large portions -- and the menu has a lot of variety. My favorite indulgence thing would have to be the brunchee burger, though, which is served with an egg and ham on top and deliciously seasoned fries. The corn bread and butter they serve for the table at brunch is very tasty, too ;) It's nice to see a place serving thoughtful, high-quality food like this in Long Island. This was the first time in years I got to enjoy myself instead of cooking on Xmas. I ordered catering from RiverMill and enjoyed everything. Plenty of food, great quality & easy to serve. Very nice brunch this past Sunday. We were in town for some tennis at the New York Open in Hempstead. I'm always looking for a nice brunch spot when we travel, and this spot met our expectation. OMG, they serve a freshly baked whole cornbread about 6" in diameter to start. "A"mazing! I ate so much cornbread I could barely eat my meal. Wish I had taken a picture of it to post. My daughter and I came for Saturday brunch. Warm welcoming atmosphere and staff. Decor looks newly done. Menu had a number of options. The cornbread for the table was delicious. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Despite it being quite empty it did take a noticeable amount of time to get our entrees. We used the time to enjoy the cornbread. Went here yesterday morning with a party of 4. Actually 30 minutes before the opened because I didn't check the times online, rookie mistake. They were totally cool with it, they sat us anyway and let us order drinks. Service was top notch, and we were very grateful that they were so accepting. Also the food was amazing, we went for brunch and everything was so great - especially the cornbread that comes with the table. The outside section has been expanded and looks beautiful, too! I'd been to River Mill before and had pretty good food. So I was surprised by how disappointing yesterday's dinner was. Two drinks, two apps, and an entree salad, plus tax and tip, set us back $90. And the food was just not good. The portions were generous, and the wings were fine, but the dip was a bit oddly sweet and visually unappealing. The Columbia salad was just...gross. I wanted to like it, but the ingredients didn't go together. In addition, the atmosphere was less than ideal. Three TVs, awful music, and a table full of obnoxiously loud, drunk seniors = really not relaxing. Seriously? This place tries to be upscale but falls way short of the mark. They had a great texture and the combination of toppings were a great accent. It was sweet and tasty. The entire menu looks great but I am so glad I got the tacos. We had coffee and while I simple thing, the coffee was good. Sometimes places like these have burnt coffee or old coffee or biter coffee. I really enjoyed the meal. I stopped in her with my wife during the week and we were very surprised by the quality of the experience. We loved everything from the decor to the food. The pretzel app is a must, as was the steak sandwich. The service could have been a little faster, but we were luckily not in too much of a rush. I have had take out and dinner here twice, both times were good. The bavarian pretzel with the crab cheese dip, don't get scared. I'm not a crab person and I loved it. It wasn't super crabby, so it was really good. I have had the chicken schnitzel its good, not exactly schnitzel was still a solid sandwich none the less. Drinks are made well and moderately priced. The meal itself was a little pricey but that is just nitpicking. I will say I'm super happy to have a place like this local. The Swiss Tavern had been there for years and its nice to see the Rivermill the cleaned up adult classy cleaned up version. The ambiance is perfect, its very welcoming and cozy inside. This place is a hidden gem! It's easy to miss if you're passing by, located in a residential section of Lynbrook along Ocean Avenue, but it is so worth the time. Aside from some struggles with parking and large crowds during peak times (the place is rather small), I definitely will want to return to River Mill again. When my fiancé, her aunt and uncle and I visited this place on Sunday evening, we were immediately seated with our menus. Her aunt and uncle had been here before and knew exactly what to order, so they helped to persuade us in what our selections should be. We started off with some drink orders - a malbec for me, a mixed vodka drink for my fiancé, 12-year-old whiskey for her uncle and a merlot for her aunt - and then proceeded to order some appetizers - kung pao calamari and a bavarian pretzel for the table. Oh my goodness folks, the kung pao calamari and bavarian pretzel are incredible! The kung pao calamari is coated with a sweet-and-sour, Asian-style zest that has the slightest of kicks. It is by far the most unique calamari I have ever tasted and probably the best. After we had cleaned the bowl of calamari, we took some leftover bavarian pretzel and soaked it in the sauce from the dish - it was THAT good! We also really enjoyed the bavarian pretzel on its own, which was as large as a melon and paired with a cheesy crab dip - delicious! Our drink orders were also excellent, each in their own unique way of course. When it came time to order entrees, I opted for the cheeseburger sliders and chose cheddar, swiss, mozzarella and american cheese to top the four mini burgers, which I asked to be cooked medium. My fiancé ordered the pork and latka flatbread, her aunt ordered "the ace" steak sandwich, and her uncle ordered the grilled chicken caprese flatbread. Holy smokes, folks! The food was awesome! My sliders were cooked perfectly and had a juicy, smoky flavor with crispy french fries on the side. Although I didn't try the steak sandwich, I hear it was incredible. I also LOVED the pork and latka flatbread (and admittedly wished I had ordered it) - tangy and smoky with savory goodness in every bite. I also tried a bite of the grilled chicken caprese flatbread, which was very flavorful as well. You cannot go wrong with any of these options, although I would personally recommend the pork and latka flatbread, especially for ribs or barbecue fans - so good! Aside from the food quality, the service here is also terrific. Our server was attentive, friendly, and even jovial. She was great! The rest of the staff was wonderful as well, efficient and professional. I also enjoyed the ambiance here, which was intimate with dim lighting and rustic decor. Having been at the bar once before when this place was busy, however, I must say the place is rather small. During peak times, this restaurant can be very loud. At a quiet time, however, the ambiance is great! Definitely pay a visit to River Mill! I'm hoping this place will be around and maintain its quality for years to come. Well done! I enjoyed this place, it felt good to finally have a brunch spot in Ling Island. I'm also happy the travel wasn't too far in Nassau or having to travel all the way to Brooklyn out on ends earth of Queens. Sigh* just finally a brunch spot close by. I've looking for restaurant forever. Okay so the service was good, my family and I went on Saturday around 1pm. It was full, there's was a 30-45 mins wait. So had to sit by window. Which I wasn't happy about, however after we sat and looked the window I was over it. I'm being honest, I'm a brunch person. I really like the experience of sitting at the table. Anyway like I said once we sat down at the window it was fine. Illegal found parking fine. It's right in suburban area so there was no Hussle b bussle trying find parking. That crowed wait of hipsters going to eat kind of day. It was just really chill. The food was really good, bacon well down, eggs fresh, coffee fresh, cute little Cramer bottle. We ordered the pretzel to go. And let me say that was really a treat to see. I want be greedy for everyone not to know about this place. But I'll share the experience. We had a meeting one night recently at the River Mill. There were about 20 people in attendance and we had an area of the restaurant for our group. We ordered drinks at the bar which were delicious. It was a Wednesday night and the place was packed. We then took our seats and they brought us various appetizers-kung pao calamari, open faced cuban sandwiches, and a large pretzel with a crab dip-all were very tasty. As far as the main courses, everyone was very happy with their choices. I got the cacio e pepe which came with large shrimp. It was delicious. It was a work night followed by a work day so I left somewhat early but I will return-it was great. The service was excellent and the waiters were very attentive. read more

Made a good first impression. We visited RM for brunch and we were rewarded with a relatively empty dining room and attentive, friendly service. The coffee and brunch menu have many interesting choices and our food came out hot and delicious. Highlights include the homemade cornbread, and the French toast casserole. They interestingly serve one family style side of home fries, bacon and sausage links for the table. The website is pretty good, and the place is very attractive looking. Our first experience at River Mill was for brunch. We've had it bookmarked for awhile and finally had a chance to pop in. Overall, our experience was fine, a good place to go if you're in the area but I'm not sure I would travel for it - for brunch. I can't comment on any other meal as we haven't had a chance to try it! If you're looking for a place to watch an NFL game, they've got plenty of TVs in the bar area and NFL Sunday Ticket which is great! Another plus is the "family style" cornbread brought to the table within seconds of being seated. It's served in a cast iron skillet (which is an adorable presentation, always...) and had a good at-home flavor to it. Our server and runner were nice, and the service from the hostess (observed through the meal) was welcoming to customers as well. They were very good with kids, had candy for Halloween and treated them like they were welcomed and belonged there. One meal was enjoyable, the Egg Bowl. Shortrib, egg and cheese in a bread bowl - hard to go wrong! The shortrib was tender and well-flavored, the egg was cooked a perfect over-easy and the bread bowl itself was crisp on the outside and nice and soft on the inside. It also had a "meat plate" that came with it, consisting of sausage, bacon, and home fries. We loved that idea! The spice on the home fries may not be for everyone, but I thought it added a good change in flavor. One meal wasn't as great - the biscuits and gravy. It was cold when we received it, and the gravy was incredibly thin and the ingredients hadn't combined. The biscuits themselves were really well done though. The cocktails were another low point. I had the Other Side, which was jalapeño tequila, St. Germain liqueur and lemonade. My SO had the Back Nine, which is your standard vodka, iced tea and lemonade. My drink was unbalanced, and the lemonade didn't have enough flavor to counter the tequila. I thought maybe it was just a mix of ingredients that I personally didn't care for, but I tried the Back Nine and unfortunately it was very watery and vodka-y. Another unbalanced result with a lack of flavor from the mixers. For a second drink we ordered a mimosa and it ended up being prosecco over ice with orange juice, which just seems like there's a lack of experience behind the bar when it comes to cocktail execution. Overall the atmosphere was good, half the meals were good, the beer and wine options were fairly good as well. I would love to go back and give the evening a shot, hopefully there is more experience in the other shifts and there is just a learning curve for the morning. read more

Was in Long Island with my colleague to visit a customer. After the meeting we headed to JFK for our flight back to LA. We were hungry and trying to find a place for lunch. The reviews look pretty good so we decided to give it a shot. The menu looked quite attractive, but who'd have known the food would be so disappointing. We ordered the Bavarian Pretzel, Crab Cake Capellini , and a Black and Blue Burger... The pretzel was pretty good, but the rest were just a disaster. The idea of the crab cake dish is good, but the execution is just terrible. There's very very little crab, and the noodles were just tasteless. And the burger was overly cooked (I ordered medium)... So we both ate only less than 1/3 of our food. Very disappointing... read more

Here's the good: They honored our reservation on a very busy Saturday Night. Good burgers fries and Kung Pao Calamari. Bad: Entrees did not come out until two hours after we sat down. Food was uneven, Burgers were good, Cobb's salad's chicken was dry, salty and had no taste, and bacon was greasy. (They compted us for this). This is an incredibly noisy restaurant.
