First timers here! We ate on patio . . . very pleasant. Busy, even at 5:30 on a Monday. Our waiter, Darrick, was a real gem. Appetizer: Italian Nachos - DELICIOUS! 12-14" pizza pan covered with tortilla chips, topped w/ spinach artichoke dip and cheese. . . ooey, gooey deliciousness! Hubby had the prime rib sandwich on focaccia and it was one of the best things he's had in a restaurant in a long time, sweet potato fries were very good also! I had the blackened chicken sandwich . . . bacon, avocado, pepper jack (only disappointment, fake pasteurized process cheese on this, took it off as the avocado was enough), very good sandwich, chicken breast was not overly blackened and was not dry. This was the first time for me visiting the river inn, and definitely won't be the last! The menu has many options, and made it hard to decide (which isn't a bad thing). After looking at reviews I decided to order the wings, but once at the restaurant I changed my mind and got the river burger. It was delicious, didn't fall apart barely at all while eating. I ordered the fries, and contrary to some reviews stating they're mediocre, I personally really like them. Not too greasy or over seasoned, and I had the seasoned sour cream with them. Amazing service and atmosphere, and not much of a wait on a Monday during lunch time. Will definitely come back again and try something new, although I love the burger. I overheard group next to us, and they seemed to really love the clam chowder stating that it had a perfect kick, was filling and not greasy. Compliments to this place, adorable outside and inside. There is ALWAYS a wait at the River Inn when we make the drive from Plymouth to Hanover, but it's well worth it. The staff & bartenders are friendly and accommodating. The BBQ ribs are amazing/meaty/delicious. we share a full rack & all the sides. YUM! read more

The food at the River Inn is excellent! The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is the dining space. The dinning room is small and the place is usually packed. Most weekend evenings there is a wait for a seat. Other then the space, which is not as bad in the summer with some outside seating, the place is awesome. We have always had friendly wait staff and have never been disappointed with the food. They have also been very accommodating with my daughter and her food allergies. We recommend the burgers and onion rings, wife also really like the turkey burger. The Steak tip salad is also very good. My son loves the chicken Alfredo. Great place for a good meal. First time here today. Of course the weather was nice but what impressed me most was the staff. They worked so hard and were so pleasant. The place was very busy and they were on their toes for sure. This very popular, little gem of a restaurant has really outgrown its capacity. COZY is the word here. In this neck of the woods ( or cornfields.... take your pick ) this "go to" destination can really make you feel clastrophobic depending on your arrival time and i have to say they dont turn anybody away. Why would they? Inside is a dual zone restuarant- bar area. The food is great here as is the service and hospitality. The owners are great people. If you asked me for an item to recommend, try the walleye sandwich. Mmmm. You can see where they, at one time, added onto the dining room but since its location sits on a corner, they really are landlocked and really have no room to expand. If you really hate that feeling of being boxed in, i suppose you can always call ahead or just order take out. If you have a party of more than 10, be prepared to wait & wait & wait. Its worth mentioning the whole reason its always packed is not a bad thing. Everybody likes it here for good reason. Pros - great food, homey atmosphere, friendy people, great service. Great place to socialize and meet your neighbor's. Reasonable prices. Good value. Cons - Seems to be at maximum capacity when i visit, long wait times for the dining room standing next to the entrance to the mens room and being in everyones way. Did not expect such great food from a small town restaurant. The Jackie's Best pizza is our go-to when we need a cheesy pizza fix. The hubbs loves that it's cut in squares. We've only dined in once so far and our meals exceeded our expectations. The hubby had the New York Strip and I had the Ribeye (pictured). The soup offering that night was a beef spaetzle that puts all the German restaurants in the Cities to shame. We had the Brownie Sundae for dessert. Mmmm. Went on one of the last Saturday's before we hit fall. Beautiful evening. This is one of those places that the locals love and people seem to like enough to make the drive to enjoy. Service was good, food was pretty good too. Had the broasted chicken, it was good, not fabulous, but good. Other's had burgers and some of the specials. One of the specials was a fish meal, there were bones, always a turn off when not expected. The apps were really good. Tried a spinach artichoke bread, that was great. Would I make the drive again? Don't know, I guess I wouldn't go out of my way, but they don't need me to, they have quite the following, which is nice for smaller town places! read more

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful! We have been to River Inn more times than I can count. Jodi knows us every time we come in and always welcomes us with a friendly, "Hello kids!" It's such a wonderful cozy spot with great staff, beverages and awesome food. The ribs on a Friday or Saturday night are phenomenal! My wife always gets the meatloaf sandwich which she loves. And if we don't want to mess with waiting (which is inevitable on a weekend), we order the taco pizza for carry out. It is delicious! read more

When I lived out in the sticks - this place was my sanity. The food is super traditional - shrimp, prime rib, BBQ ribs and burgers - but they do it RIGHT. Honestly - I would leave from work early so I could get there before 5:30 some Friday's before they ran out of ribs - and I don't eat a lot of meat let alone meat on bones. They fall off the bone, the sauce is perfect. It comes with potato, veg, salad or soup and breadstick. All for like $16!!!! Burgers, sandwiches and shrimp also rock the house. I almost hate to write a glowing review because the place is already always so busy, but you know what? Of the five star reviews I've written, this may be the most deserving. The River Inn isn't big. It isn't centrally located (unless you live in the northwest outer ring). And it isn't flashy or fancy in looks. What it IS, is incredibly good on every level you'd want your dining experience to be. The servers have, without fail, been incredible. Attentive in every sense of the word and beyond friendly to the point that you genuinely feel welcome in the establishment. The food has always been tasty. I'd legitimately put anything they serve in my mouth. Last time we dined, the power was out. Did that stop them? NOPE! We ate delicious onion rings and chicken wraps and whathaveyou by the romantic light of our iPhones. It was a really cool experience! This place has become a traditional birthday meeting place for my in-law side of the family and now I wish we had more people to celebrate so I'd have an excuse to go cram that tasty goodness in my face more often! read more

Wow - this place just blew my wife and I away! I wish I could give this 6, 7, or even 10 stars - it was that good. The only thing I'm disappointed by is that it took me so long to finally find this hidden gem! So we arrived around 9pm on beautiful Saturday night in August - just as the temperatures are stopping to drop as fall arrives and it was perfect for folks to sit outside and enjoy their dinner. As a result, we did wait about 15-20 minutes for a table - but we were will prepared for that having read other reviews here. As starters, we ordered a plate of wings and split the order in half (at no charge!). While I don't recall the specific names of the flavors, half of them were the dry rub with garlic seasoning and the other half were the same dry rub, dipped in Buffalo sauce and then baked. Oh my goodness - talk about heaven! I'll swing by here just to get wings! I'm a huge wings fan, and these were hands down my favorite wings ever! I ended up going with the open face prime rib which was fantastic! It was cooked to perfection and the horseradish was also really, really good! I like horseradish with a good kick, and this stuff didn't fail! The tater tots, or "River Rounds" as they are called here, were also really good! To top off my meal, I had a Long Island Tea which was not only the largest Long Island I've ever had, but also outstanding! My wife chose the blackened chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries. The chicken was juicy and full of flavor - and pleasantly not "black"! And those sweet potato fries - oh my! If you like sweet potato fries, you have to try these! So yeah, its not often I write a review on Yelp, but there was no doubt in my mind that this place deserved my best review. (And just for extra points, this meal, which could have easily exceeded $100 at other restaurants, was a whopping $51 - incredible value!) read more

River Inn is the best bar and grill ever! Everything I've eaten there was delicious and fresh. The staff is incredibly friendly but not overbearing. I highly recommend any of the wraps--they are just the right size (not those humongous things you see other places) and the ratio of ingredients is just right. I'm not a big Long Island Iced Tea drinker, but River Inn makes the absolute best Long Islands I've ever had. Have two and you will be in a great mood (and you might need to get a ride home). Not a bad place to eat at. Simple atmosphere, quaint but can get busy. The burgers were decent but a tad too rare so order more done. The only real food worth buying are their ribs. Additionally, their tap selection is pretty limited and I felt was a tad watered down. However, they have more available in a bottle. The service really lacked a bit as well. read more

I cannot day enough about River Inn!! I learned about this restaurant when I met a friend here. It's such a quaint restaurant with flair and AMAZING food. Come early because it gets busy and does fill up! After the first time that I ate there, this place became one of my favorite restaurants, ever. First, the food is superb! It is always fresh and delicious. The portions are huge, and the prices are reasonable. I also appreciate the large menu selection. If you go there, you MUST try the river rounds (tator tots) and Pizza! I don't eat meat, but I've heard that their ribs are a must! I know that they sell out of them, often. The servers are also great! They all have great personalities and are responsive. We ask for John when we go there. He is speedy, funny, and attentive. Make the time to go to River Inn!
