Eating here is a must when we're in Homer. It's a family-owned cafe, ingredients are always fresh and I love that they offer free coffee and daily specials. Sitting outside with their dogs on a nice summer day is always a treat! I tend to go with one of their rice bowls which usually include a protein, veggies, and an egg. My fiancé, who's Cuban, swears by their Cuban sandwich. He's even asked my parents to bring one back home to Anchorage on their weekend trips to Homer. My bagel was pretty darn good. My husband's sausage and gravy was horrible. It had very little meat in it and had a smoky flavor rather than a sausage flavor- it was weird and not in a good way. The complimentary coffee was also super watery. Given that you have to bus your own table, I was expecting service to be quicker than it was. We waited about 15 minutes for our food. There's only about 8 tiny tables inside (and a nice patio, which had no people in it when we were there,) so I'm not sure why the wait was so long for such simple items. I'd probably give this place another shot because they had some interesting items I've not seen before, but my husband will refuse to go back because his was so bad. Oh well.. read more

We came down for a long weekend and ended up eating here twice because it was so tasty. Fast, friendly service. Great food, fresh ingredients, expansive menu. Day one was breakfast, and we had the Monte Cristo, biscuits and gravy, and the scramble. All were fabulous. But we saw someone eating the SW chicken burrito and had immediate FOMO. Not sure why my breakfast went so wrong ordered over medium eggs. I was served way over easy (raw) eggs. I had broke yolk and it was runny white. So I returned and asked politely for over medium. The cook took my existing eggs and refried them. Served to me still uncooked but crunchy. Free hint, when someone returns eggs cooked wrong, redo with new eggs. Worst $24 breakfast! read more

Ordered 2 turkey sandwiches with bacon, cheese and lettuce for a boat trip we were taking. When I got in the car I noticed they both had tomato and mayo. I'm allergic to mayo so I went back in to say I can't eat this with mayo. Woman who put the order in said You didn't say you didn't want Mayo. She was annoyed I didn't want the sandwich I couldn't eat. I didn't know I have to ask for things I don't want on my sandwich. My son was ok with his the way it was made. The guy cooking hands me back a sandwich he threw together, no bacon, not cut, wrapping falling off it. Clearly disgruntled he had to re-do my sandwich. I had to ask for him to add bacon, cut it in half and actually wrap it. I didn't want to complain but this isn't the way to treat customers. We spent 4 days in Homer and found such nice food places. We visited Homer today and glad we found this place for breakfast and lunch. The inside dining area is limited but on a sunny day they have more seating at the back. The dining area is clean and maintained. The food is good but a bit too pricey. After leaving we noticed that they offer drive thru if you are in a rush. read more

Another gem find. The food was amazing I ordered the byob burger added grilled onions and egg WOW really good and the potato salad was really tasty too. Wife ordered a beef dip added sprouts. She thought it was really good. Definitely stop for a bite while visiting Homer.. You can order Togo or dine in. The place was spotless inside. Don't hesitate! Just come here and eat! Lunch OR breakfast. The entire menu looks amazing and everything our party has had was delicious! Try the scrambles, the pulled pork or any sandwich. I wish we would have found this place sooner when in Homer for the week. We would have come everyday. No joke. It was by far the best breakfast AND lunch place we ate at and everyone was stoked on their meals that we had to come back. Whether you are here for the weekend or a week stop at River Cafe. I don't normally leave a lot of reviews but after one too many poor meals at other places in Homer I wish I would have read a review like this. Both times we came we forgot to take a pic of our food cuz it smelled and looked so good! And it tasted just as delicious as it looked and smelled. The people are all very kind and the owner was very very kind. And don't forget to say hi to Spirit the resident beautiful dog. Our plans changed and we found ourselves with time to eat breakfast. We drove to River Cafe and I went in to check out the place and menu before we decided to stay. Atmosphere: It's small, cute and quaint inside with additional seating outside. The friendly owners both work here. The wife was warm and greeted me promptly. I took a look at their menu written on the walls ( they have handouts as well with the same info). The daily special is located next to the cash register. Outside is nice. Seating are tables and benches. There is also some Adirondack chairs circling the fire pit. Nice flower bed adds to the charm. Food: Me: I had THE BEST biscuits and gravy!! I wish we'd gone back again instead of trying another place that didn't come close. My plate included eggs and bacon. So good. Hubby: had a breakfast sandwich but doesn't r ember which one since it's been a month since we were there! He liked it very much! Dog: Spirit is their dog who sleeps outside near the outside seating. He came right up to us and was such a sweetheart. We loved his company. You know how sometimes, some people may just want to be left alone? Well, that's probably why the warning sign is near his bed. Wow this breakfast was very very good! I ordered Moco Loco my hubby had the River Skillet and my mom had corned beef hash. They were all served with small amount of micro greens and cottage cheese and slice of orange which was equally delightful. Amounts of food were definitely worth the price and coffee was free which is almost unheard of in Homer. Small dine in area that was cozy and open seven days a week! Will be going back!! read more

Home made and fresh! This place was recommended to me and I was so surprised! It is a cute little red house with a drive through window on the right. There are very few drive throughs in Homer, so thats why this was a great surprise. Just about any size vehicle has plenty of room to pull up to the window and then circle around the back to get back on the road. Even motorhomes! The whole parking are has lots of room and is well kept. As you drive around the back, there are outdoor picnic tables to sit at as well, nice! Going in or at the drive through, there is a good variety to choose from on the menu. All home made. Breakfasts, sandwiches, home made soups, wraps and even an build your own burger. They make thier own breads for their sandwiches and are generous with thick slices. They make cinnamon rolls too. Some with rasins--and wothout-- but I grew up WITH rasins in my mom's rolls and have found very few places that still add them, so it is nastolgic for me. I bought a loaf of bread and promptly went home and slathered piece after peice with butter - also just like when I was a kid. Toasted some the next day and dipped em in my sunny side up eggs, it was amazing. I have been through the drive through at least a dozen times this summer. I have gotten the half sandwich and now usually get the whole sandwich with a side. Every day there is a different side to try. The salads are fresh and the blue cheese dressing is made well and is creamy. All the sandwiches are either thick slices of their bread or good sized sandwich rolls and I love the microgreens, they add lots of flavor! The Gobbler is my fav, turkey, cheese avacado and the micro-greens. The home made won ton chicken soup is he best and one bowl is not enuf! I could buy a pot of it to take home. Have not tried what look like plentiful breakfast burritos--yet. This is a great place to stop. All hand-and-home-made items that are different, fresh and refreshing to try. There is indoor and outdoor seating and coffee is included at no extra charge. Our breakfast was out quick and all 3 were awesome! Good local spot in a pinch. Made the mistake of coming to Homer towards the end of the season so 90% of the restaurants in town were closed until next year. Luckily River Cafe came to save the day. While the flavor of the food wasn't necessarily incredible, it was a huge burrito for the price and the staff was super nice. Seemed like they stuffed a whole burger's worth of ground meat into the thing. Cool little local jaunt that was there when we needed it.
