Amazing at what they do and customer service was amazing and very quick! My daughter and I got our hair done and enjoyed the entire experience! Will definitely be returning!

I called to make an appointment this morning and lucky for me they had one available! I was immediately greeted and my jacket was taken to be hung before I got my hair shampooed. My Stylist was Dayra, she was nice and professional. She asked me what I wanted and what my end goal was. I wanted layers and shape without losing length, because I Love my long hair. It was a butterfly cut essentially and came out perfect! I couldn't be more happy with it! The salon is also clean, nice and bright. The kind of atmosphere that makes you feel pampered. Everyone around there seemed knowledgeable as well.

I've been coming here for almost a year now and I always leave the salon looking fabulous! Gabby does an amazing job when it comes to trims and blowouts. She's a perfectionist and always exceeds my expectations when it comes to my haircuts. She also offers curly cuts, which is originally what drew me in as I have curly hair. I've attached a picture of my hair after my first visit! My hair has grown a lot and Gabby has really helped me maintain my length and always provides advice when it comes to keeping it healthy! 10/10 recommend

This review is a couple weeks late but I wanted to take the time to make sure I expressed this all correctly. First, the technical portion...I got a wonderful color from Lauren, a fantastic cut from Orlando, and some great additional tweaks from Issak. But those aren't what this review is about. Their prices are high...but reasonable for the services. But at that price point, you expect people to be technically proficient at their jobs. And they all are. But that's not the reason I would recommend to anyone, if you're debating where to go or looking for a new salon...GO HERE. PICK THIS SALON. Let me give you a free general piece of life advice...never make a big hair change on top of a huge life change. Just don't. I didn't take my own advice and that's the point of this review. Like many people, the last few years have not been easy. My husband was diagnosed with a terminal illness right before the pandemic, all the years of the pandemic stuff we all went through, I changed jobs, we moved from upstate down to Queens, and I was going back to an office for the first time in over 3 years. I hadn't had a professional hair cut or color in over 3 years. I wanted a change-to modernize, to look professional again, and yes, to be the kickoff of a brand new start. I did my research on Queens' salons and kept coming back to Riva-so I called to make an appointment, and they had availability the day after we moved. The. Day. After. I should've said no, lets look further out. I should have run...but I didn't, so I came to the salon the day after moving an entire household over 200 miles. I left a house full of boxes, tired and aggravated family, I had NO idea how to get around the neighborhood and I thought this was a great choice of a day to completely change my hair! LOL Ohhhh boy. I walked into the salon with box-colored DARK brown hair and I wanted to go light. I wanted blonde. And bless her heart, Lauren did it. 7 hours later, she managed to turn a home-colored dark mess into a gorgeous light brown with caramel and blond highlights. And Orlando gave me a fantastic cut I couldn't stop staring at. And what did I do? How did I react? I cried. I sat in a chair and bawled....and I could not stop. Why? Because as gorgeous as it was (and it was), it didn't exactly match the picture in my head. Uh-huh, Go on, crazy person (I can hear everyone reading this thinking that and you would not be wrong). I couldn't stop crying. The real reason? I was worn out from the last few years of constant stress, and exhausted from the move and had barely slept the night before. I just couldn't put any of that into words, so I just kept crying (believe me, I knew I looked and sounded like an idiot. I tried stopping, it wasn't happening). What happened next is why I will never go anywhere else for my hair as long as we live in the area and why I can't urge anyone who is reading this too strongly to GO TO RIVA. Seriously, GO HERE. In many, many salons (we've all seen customers have a bad moment or two over the years) I would have been handed a tissue and a bill and sent on my way. Nope. Isaak, the owner, came over to the chair and told me, "It's ok, don't worry, we'll make it what you want." He didn't say they would fix it...there was nothing to fix. It was a gorgeous cut and a beautiful color but he saw that I was completely overwhelmed and instead of trying to convince me that it was ok, he leaned into the moment I was having. He gave me the option to stay then or leave and come back in a week or so (I stayed b/c if I'd left like that, I don't think I would have gone back) and he put some more highlights in. It wasn't a ton of them-it honestly didn't change the overall look that much, but it was what I needed at that moment. Lauren was so kind and understanding after spending literally hours fixing my hair and doing an amazing job, only to have me start bawling. Orlando gave me a wonderful cut, and then styled it again after Isaak did the extra color. Like I said in the beginning of the review...at a certain price point (at any price point really, but we all know the expectations when the price rises), you expect that people will be technically proficient at their jobs. Everyone I saw at Riva was all that and more, but it was their kindness that I will never forget. It was their ability to look and see that I wasn't just being a difficult person (and I was crying, I never said anything rude or mean), there was more behind the upset than anything to do with the color or cut. They took the extra time to meet me where I was and I will forever be grateful for that. I've attached before and after pics and all I can continue to say is GO HERE!

I've been coming here to a couple of years now. No place is like this. Can't beat the service and prices are great. They have very nice staff. I have seen everyone of the colorists here and they are amazing. I always leave overly satisfied. And they give the best blowouts too! Whether you're coming in for a coloring or a haircut i recommend coming here. read more

i walked into this salon without an appointment, they were full but took me in within 10 minutes. waited another 5 minutes and i was attended to immediately. the result was amazing. isaac and the rest of the staff was very accomodating and friendly. yes its a little pricey but as they say, you get what you pay for. i walked out of the salon a happy client. see you next time riva! read more

I wish I could give this place 5++ stars!! Super clean, staff is very professional and Mirena (I hope I spelled it correctly) was just beyond amazing. For the very first time in my life (!!!), I didn't have to answer personal questions or have random/awkward small talk with my stylist. She was beyond incredible, knew what she's doing, made sure I'm comfortable and left the salon with a smile. Perfect cut and a gorgeous blowout. P.S. I initially brought my mom here for a Keratin Treatment and she just loved the results and the environment/vibe. I don't remember the name of the person who did her hair a few months back but she was just as lovely. Thank you for the wonderful experience and I'll be back soon. Found my new fav hair heaven. read more

This was my first time at Riva salon after going to another salon for almost 20 yrs. It was time for a change. Jodi did my hair. She was very nice. I showed her a picture of what I wanted. I had a great experience and my sister did not. Went in last minute and they took both of us. My hair dresser extremely nice and my sisters was very rude. He didn't want to follow the style that she liked. I had to speak up for her since she was getting frustrated with him. Make sure to read reviews and specifically ask for someone who will give you good treatment. read more

I finally found a hair salon that I like! It took years but I found it in Riva. I called 10 minutes before going in for my haircut and the customer service is fantastic! There could not be a place that I wanted to like more as it's close to my house, bright and clean. With 2 daughters, haircuts will be frequent so I really needed to find our 'go to' spot. Well, due to COVID, I have not had my hair cut in 7 months and I was in badly need of a cut. My hair is thick and abundant so I can't express how much I was looking forward to having this cut. After the standard shampoo, the stylist gave me a trim and light layer around the face, she said that I was done. This was after about 15 minutes of being in the chair and my hair looked slightly shorter but not any different otherwise. I knew from experience that it would still be too much hair on top and she needed to thin it out more. When I stated that, there was push back on how much to cut and how she took off alot already. Why the pushback? It was obvious that there was someone else waiting for her so she mentioned that I could always come back when my hair was dry to cut more. There's really no reason to have to come back when I already made an appointment ahead of time. My time is also valuable and I can't afford to 'come by when my hair is dry' like she stated. As much as I want to love this place, customer service is quite lacking and I'm going to make the trek into the city where customer feedback is more valued. read more

I am so happy I found this place, Dayra does such an amazing job blowing out my hair, Everyone there is so wonderful and friendly and make you feel comfortable and well taken care of. Issac has been doing my highlights and I couldn't be happier. He takes the time to make sure the color is exactly how you like it, one time it was just a tad too bright for me, although the color was beautiful, just not for my face. He immediately toned it down and and corrected it and it was stunning, I always get compliments on my color and blow out's after leaving Riva. Love it there!!! read more

Riva is by far my favorite hair salon, Kathryn the hair stylist alway give me such a beautiful hair cut, listens to how I would like my hair and also give me great advice on how to style my hair after I get it done. everyone is so friendly, Jody is one of the best colorist, I go to her ever time I get my hair colored no matter what color I want she alway does a fantastic job. read more

NEVER HAVE I EVER GOT SO MY COMPLIMENTS ON MY HAIR COLOR!! (Even from guys!!) Thank you!! This review is long overdue but I never write reviews!! Never has a hair colorist sat with me and explained the journey to get to the hair color I was aiming for Isaac did!! I am so grateful and was so happy with my results and they are very complimentary to my skin color as well. Salon and staff are welcoming and clean! Isaac even gave me a free product for my curls since it was my first time there! Love the product it's light and doesn't weigh down my curls when I don't want to straighten my hair. Came here today at the last minute and it was the best decision I've made in a while! I usually go to DryBar in the city or or another place locally that I will not name. After that blowdry bar cancelled by appointment w/o reason via email 2 hours before I was scheduled to come in I called Riva's and they were able to fit me in same day! I arrived early and was immediately shampooed. My blowout was great! I have natural long and thick mixed race/African American hair and they nailed the pin straight look I go for. Everyone here is extremely courteous and professional. They have truly made a return customer out of me. They're a full service salon so I can truly see myself coming back for a cut or color as well! read more

Been here a few times for haircut & blowout and I absolutely loved it every time. I've gone to Dayra and Melissa. They're both really good. I love that they listen to what you want and execute it with perfection. They also give great advice to guide you towards what would look good on you. Aside from the excellent cuts, their blowouts are amazing! A bit expensive but it's worth it. I wish it was cheaper. read more

This is my happy place. I go to them before interviews and once a week. I've been going to them for about four years. I have never had a problem with any staff. The owner, Isaac, cares deeply about all his clients. He wants everyone that comes in to walk out feeling like a model and he makes sure we do. He has a good sense of humor and makes sure his salon stays professional and clean at all times. I get my hair done with Janice and I try to stick to one person as long as I can. Janice does a perfect blowout, trim, and works well with bangs. She has been doing this for over 25 years. If she's not there, I use Melissa. Melissa does some mean braids. My friend uses Jodi and my friend has gone blonde and she looks phenomenal. I've gotten my hair dyed by Isaac and Janice and they both did excellent work. Their prices are great. Unbeatable for the high level of quality. I drive 20 mins just to come here. read more

I started coming here a little over two years ago. I started only doing my cuts her, but recently started doing color as well. Lauren is excellent I have never returned to a salon for my hair color. She is the only one I trust with my hair. Super honest and tells me pros and cons when I question doing a bit more of a different color. When it comes to cut, I think I've had just about everyone at me. My first girl was Dayra, and she happened to take care of me this past time with Lauren. Absolutely in love with everything about my hair. This whole salon is beyond amazing. read more

Hair cuts are a total miss! They cover very bad hair cuts with a good blowout . Friendly staff but overbearing salon manager who gets involved in every stylist/client interaction to give his 2 cents. They don't have the time to properly do your hair so they tell you ,the look you want is not achievable( even when you had an appointment). Don't believe the hype, they beg customers to write good reviews. read more

I have been going to Riva Salon since they opened years ago and even though I moved to the city, I still travel out to Queens just to have my hair done with them. I've gotten hair cuts, blow outs, color, etc. throughout the years with them. Issak is absolutely the best when it comes to coloring my hair. He's done everything from balayage to highlights to full head of color and I come out of that salon feeling amazing every time. All my girlfriends compliment me on my hair constantly and I always send them to him! I usually get my hair cut by Dayra and she always does a great job, but when she's not available, I trust any of the hairdressers there to cut my hair. I have have yet to have a bad experience at Riva and I honestly believe that will probably never happen. All the hairdressers here are really great at what they do and all the staff is extremely friendly and courteous. I highly recommend! read more

This was my first time at Riva Salon. It's always nerve racking going to a salon for the first time especially as a blonde. The staff was very sweet and accommodating and the owner- Isaac did such a phenomenal job on my hair. I did a partial highlight just before my summer vacation and it looks absolutely amazing, it definitely exceeded my expectations. It's the little details that really up the quality! Jina did such an amazing job with the cut color and styling--very meticulous and professional--and the girl who washed my hair (I think her name was Iris) was great too. She really got in there with the scalp massage and they give a little eye shield so water doesn't splash into your eyes when the hair is being washed. Great spot!

You claim your team is 100% experienced, yet during my appointment, your staff admitted they had never done this type of work before. One even said they would like to practice on a mannequin, but was never able to so why was I being used for practice while paying for a professional service? That felt completely unfair. When I went to pay, I saw an online discount, but the staff denied it and said it was no longer valid, even though it was still being advertised. That felt dishonest. If the extensions were installed properly and tied tightly as you claim, why would I be missing so many strands when I removed them shortly after? They shouldn't have just fallen out if they were secure enough for daily wear. To make matters worse, I heard Jessica, the boss, instructing staff to work on trying to get their bad reviews removed. That speaks volumes about where their priorities really are. I hope future customers get the honest, professional service they're paying for.

If I can give them ZERO stars that would be much more accurate! I do not leave reviews ever, but this was such a bad experience, that I simply HAD TO! I had a good experience with them in the past, as I came at that time, just for the blowout for going to the party, which was close to this location, with my coworkers. Got compliments :) This time, recently, in May, I came for the haircut and color, after many pandemic months I needed it badly, as I have many split ends and it is just a mess. Was hoping they will fix it and I even traveled from Forest Hills and made an appointment two weeks ahead of time. Reviews were encouraging so I figured it is worth the trip. Isaac, I think he is the boss, was very pushy and after a long wait he decided on a color that I did not even want and literally refused to go with my wishes..thankfully color did not turn out that bad, but the attitude was unacceptable and made me extremely uncomfortable and feeling disrespected. Woman Marianna..or whatever her name is.. who cut my hair would not smile if you pay her...lol...that kind of a grouchy person...and I had to wait with wet hair long time cuz they lack the staff and she could not take me right away, so she had to spray my hair all over, (even after I already had a wash), so she can cut it, as it got half dry as I was waiting way too long. She totally disregarded my suggestions and pictures of hair cuts I wanted, which I cut out from the papers and brought to the salon. She said it is not good for me and that she knows what to do. Isaac the boss, jumped in with his bully, rude approach again and backed her up, telling me she is good and to relax and the pictures I have are not good for my face shape and to leave it to them to cut as they think is the best. I was shocked how they totally disregarded my point of view and shut me up on the spot. I felt humiliated and it was an embarrassing experience altogether, the way how they talked to me. It felt like being in a twilight zone! In my mind, I think the customer decides what kind of hair they want, after considering their consult, because it is my hair on my head and I am the one paying the bill. My ends as you can see in the pictures were very damaged and split and the length was not even on both sides, and the goal was to have professional people handle it, so I can have healthy hair again. I cried when I got home that day, as she did not even touch 75 percent of my hairs and she left it uneven and messy as hell. They were rushed by the sudden influx of regular customers and they wanted to get rid of me as soon as possible, so she did not even spend five minutes on my hair. He, the bully Isaac, even jumped in and took the scissors and bam bam shazam was done in two minutes, telling me it is fine and very soon I can come back for the new cut if I think I want another change again. I was in shock and speechless that I even did not wait for my hair to be dried but said I needed to go somewhere, as after that super rushed "cut" which was not the solution to the problem that made me seek their "professional" help, I felt helpless and stupid for accepting how they treated me. The worst of all, I am ashamed to even say how much they charged me at the register, it was so overpriced (hundreds of $) that I was totally ripped off. Omg, I think even in the classy part of Manhattan you can get a cheaper cut. The tip I gave separately cuz I always leave tip, even if it is only 4$. The shampoo lady was super nice and kind, the only one there. So after this horrific experience the next day I had to go walk in, to the local salon asking for an emergency haircut, as you can see in these pictures I still desperately needed it! The lady who cut my hair there was shocked at how damaged my hair still was. Who pays big bucks for the service that was not even provided? Fools like me! That is why I write this, so you do not go to that place and get bullied, scammed, and humiliated like me! Ripped off too! Feel totally violated, as the service intended was not provided! I should file a lawsuit against them! It is that bad of a service! Should I say: "non-service"!!! Please heed this advice and do not allow yourself to be humiliated and disgustingly treated like this. I cannot believe that I paid for the haircut, that they even did not provide for me. :( The worst salon experience ever! Nightmare! PLEASE give them a try!!i know my review is long but please read!!! Today was my first experience at RIVA. Let me start by saying my hair was a complete mess when I walked in. Colors everywhere and a homemade ombré cause I had stop coloring for a few years at due too being fed up with colorist/beauticians who would not love on or respect my dark hair that ALWAYS goes reddish when I want to a beautiful honey golden blonde and then wind up toasting my hair And of course the ones that have "the experts" are in Manhattan and are not in my budget AND not only not in my budget but even if I did want to spurge they don't know how to love and handle my Puerto Rican Rosie Perez curly dark hair UNTIL TODAY!!! Issac (the owner) a FREAKINGAnMAZING!!! He is by far the best I have ever come to know. From the moment he said "so tell me wants going on here" I was sold!! That communicated to me that he is a listener!! He wasn't judging based on the disaster he came in contact with! Then he asked if I was ready for his suggestion....boom! Again that showed me he is confident in who and what he does as he should be...now trust him!! Some colorist who KNOW how good they are stink of arrogance & ego.... There is a difference between arrogant &confidence ..... Issac is confident friendly & humble!!!! He's also a great leader to his staff! As he asked to be assisted with mixing of colors...,,,toners etc from his staff he ask for suggestions only to teach them every client is different case scenario but to challenge them in how would you handle this situation here" I love that about successful people they will always grow there staff to one day carry on the legacy they believe in expanding and that is what I saw today! The atmosphere is great & friendly. My color turned out beautiful just perfect and now it's time to cut. I hate cutting my hair because I don't trust just anyone which is why I wind up with crunchy ends :( ....until today!! I have curly hair and if you don't know how to cut or blow dry this kind if hair it could get ugly ...for me because then I look like a poodle and then if I look like a poodle it gets ugly for you cause now I'm a b&)$:;(!! Jenise cut & styled me to perfection!! She showed me how much she was taking off and asked if I was ok with it.....sigh that is the sound of heaven when you are letting someone cut your long curly hair you love so much...treat my hair with love please!! Hehehehehe ) EVERYONE in there is amazing while they didn't ALL work on my hair I watched and every client left shining bright like a diamond!! Another big shout out to the receptionist ... Very professional making sure everyone who walks in is comfortable and communicating w/staff clients have arrived etc As of today RIVA is my salon..... Mind you I live in the Bronx work in the manhattan but will cross that bridge pay the toll for excellence!!! Ooh wait I almost forgot. So of course I get all this excellent service and now it's time to pay Eeeeeeeek!! ( I say to myself ....self here is where le pocketbook understands why they are so good) I won't say how much my highlights/color/color correction/haircut btw my hair is long hair and that's always more money AND blow dry was however here's a hint ALL under $200 ONE PRICE we that know about great salons know that they love charging separate for blow drying and there can be levels to the person blow drying we'll not here!! About 4 months ago, my hair was long overdue for a haircut. I have a hectic work schedule and its hard to find "me" time. I called Riva around 2pm to see if they could squeeze me in. They told me to come right away. I met with Janice who gave me an amazing trim. She freshened up my layers and blew my hair out beautifully. For the past two months, I've been toying with the idea of getting bangs. I decided to go back to Riva and met with Janice again. I explained I was a little nervous, so Janice and I discussed my likes and dislikes while reviewing some pictures. She completely put me at ease and cut bangs to compliment me perfectly. I cant explain how happy I am with the cut and style change. I've been in between salons for a few years now and could never find one I truly loved/ could afford. The last time I got my balyage done, I paid a little over $400 as a salon in Astoria. I explained to Janice I'd be needing a freshen up soon and she introduced me to Issac. I had such a great experience at Riva. I got my prom make up and hair done by Samantha. She did an excellent job and did exactly what I had I asked her too. They know what they're doing and what they're talking about. The staff is so kind and caring. They seemed to have regular customers because most of the people that walked in were greeted by their names. In the end, I had a question and hesitant to ask, I didn't get a chance to ask her name, but she was this really kind Asian, she knew I had to ask something and despite denying it, she finally got it out of me that I needed quarters to get back home and she provided me with change in quarters. Honestly they're such wonderful workers and know exactly how to send their customers satisfied. As a monthly customer of Riva Salon for almost the past three years, I had to respond to the review by BNG. I happened to be sitting next to her last month during her visit to the salon. I have never seen a more rude, obnoxious, know-it-all and difficult customer in my life. From the moment she entered the salon she was dictating to Isaac how to do his job. Isaac, being the professional as well as the adult in the room, tried to accommodate her while stressing the potential damage she wanted to cause to her hair. This woman's poor review should in no way influence your decision to visit Riva Salon. BNG has over 50 additional negative reviews on Yelp which speaks volumes as to the type of woman she is. You can see the imagination at work the moment you meet Isaak and his staff! Isaak is amazing at his craft and will not let you leave unsatisfied. I just love this place. The employees are just phenomenal. Isaak is a doll, always friendly and welcoming. I have to say I just love love love Jenise. I love her style and personality. I especially love her technique with my hair. My hair usually doesn't stay pin straight the day after getting it done, it starts doing this weird curl in the center, but Jenise has managed to get my hair to stay pin straight not only the day after but for 3 days after. I recommend Jenise highly, she also gave me an incredible cut, I showed her a picture from my crappy cellphone of what I wanted and she did that more. I will be coming back, over and over again. I love Riva Salon! Lauren & Isaak are the best! I first came to the salon for highlights. I was greeted & sat in the chair for color immediately. Then I received a detailed consultation explaining the process to get my blonde color to the tone I wanted. The staff is highly knowledgeable & professional. I can now call myself a "regular" as I see Lauren for highlights every couple months. Besides highlights, I challenged the staff at taking me from a bright blonde color to a firey red. Then, a month later I decided it wasn't for me so I asked them to take me back to blonde! Lauren did an amazing job despite my crazy request. Always does an amazing job! I came here once and will never go back. I have been to many salons before and this was the first time I've felt completely ripped off and uncomfortable in a salon. I went in riva to get my hair dyed a shade darker, a very simple job. ( no cut or blow dry keep in mind) can some one please tell me how they charged me 100 dollars for a single process with no cut or blow dry? The usual price ranges from 50-70 dollars. I spoke with friends that are in the hair business and they agreed that what I was charged was bullshit. I have not and will not recommend this salon to anyone. There are better places in the area. Absolutely love this salon!! I went earlier today and Jenise did an amazing job (trim + blowout). Just some background: I haven't had a decent haircut since I was 11 -- I have the archetypal Brazilian/curly hair and it is well-known that every person either burns or botches my haircut. Even before touching my hair, Jenise asked all the right questions to understand the best course of action. She also recommended that based on my hair type, to come back every few months (and not every month for the dreaded "upsell"). I can't recommend Riva Salon enough and can't wait to come back! Just left Riva's Salon. I must say the dedication this place has to make sure their customers are happy is definitely refreshing. I came in super confused and just desperately wanting change. The entire staff teamed together and offered me a bunch of ideas, I couldn't decide with all the options. Finally decided on a change of color and haircut. I walked in and they accommodated me right away without an appointment. My hair was too dark for my skin tone and damaged from too many processes. Absolutely hands down the best hair salon! Stylish, trendy and just fabulous!! Isaac is AMAZiNG, he did my ombre and everyone stops to ask my where I got my hair done! My blowouts are stunning, "Vic Secret Model Status blowouts"! Super clean salon, best customer service! I can't say enough about how fabulous this salon truly is!
