My latest experience at Riva Salon went amazingly. I had a full-head balayage done by Lauren and a haircut & blow-out by Maya. Lauren did a beautiful job. She was very gentle and efficient with the process. She used an air brush method for my balayage, which was much gentler on my hair. She conveyed her professional opinion in a transparent manner when I asked for suggestions and did a great job at explaining everything. She kept me informed through every step. She got me very close to the color I desired and I could not be happier with the results! She is very skilled at what she does and I would highly recommend her services! Maya also did an amazing job. I received a trim and got curtain bangs. She kept my long layers and asked questions throughout the hair cut to make sure it was to my satisfaction. She was gentle when blow drying my hair, which I greatly appreciated. I'm sensitive to heat on my scalp and I did not have any issues with this at all. The blow-out that she did made my newly colored hair look so elegant! Honestly, this experience at Riva Salon was so refreshing and I felt very welcomed here. I had an appointment elsewhere and they did not show up. I frantically got on Google searching for a salon nearby! Found RIVA and thought ok they'll just stick me with whoever is available oh well. They put me with Lorena and let me just say Lorena is incredible. This woman transformed my life. This is the best blowout I have ever gotten. Everyone everyone everyone everywhere was stopping me complimenting me. Now I don't have regular regular hair. I have long thick middle eastern hair up to my butt. She not once sat there and made me feel like a burden or that my hair was difficult. I am forever thankful for this salon and more specifically for Lorena. Bless you and bless those hands. I've seen it so many times over the years and was hesitant to go because it seemed like a really high end salon. But the prices are more than reasonable and the quality is there. I've paid way more money in Whitestone and the quality was not worth the prices. Great experience with Jody for color and Stella for a cut and blow. I've seen Natividad and Jose for cut and blow dries. Natividad was nice, so was Jose. But I preferred Stella, just a personal choice, I felt most comfortable with her. I didn't have any issues with the other 2 stylists. I definitely recommend this salon. read more

I called to make an appointment this morning and lucky for me they had one available! I was immediately greeted and my jacket was taken to be hung before I got my hair shampooed. My Stylist was Dayra, she was nice and professional. She asked me what I wanted and what my end goal was. I wanted layers and shape without losing length, because I Love my long hair. It was a butterfly cut essentially and came out perfect! I couldn't be more happy with it! The salon is also clean, nice and bright. The kind of atmosphere that makes you feel pampered. Every time I try and go lighter, my hair gets burned off or severely damaged. I am so glad I found Jody and this salon. She lifted the color (was fairly dark and dyed poorly), my hair feels smooth and silky, and when I wasn't happy with the color, she completely understood and let me come back and toned it. She didn't made me feel uncomfortable for asking for a second look and I am obsessed with the new color. It is vibrant and dimensional. Jose cut my hair and he was fabulous too. This review is a couple weeks late but I wanted to take the time to make sure I expressed this all correctly. First, the technical portion...I got a wonderful color from Lauren, a fantastic cut from Orlando, and some great additional tweaks from Issak. But those aren't what this review is about. Their prices are high...but reasonable for the services. But at that price point, you expect people to be technically proficient at their jobs. And they all are. But that's not the reason I would recommend to anyone, if you're debating where to go or looking for a new salon...GO HERE. PICK THIS SALON. Let me give you a free general piece of life advice...never make a big hair change on top of a huge life change. Just don't. I didn't take my own advice and that's the point of this review. Like many people, the last few years have not been easy. My husband was diagnosed with a terminal illness right before the pandemic, all the years of the pandemic stuff we all went through, I changed jobs, we moved from upstate down to Queens, and I was going back to an office for the first time in over 3 years. I hadn't had a professional hair cut or color in over 3 years. I wanted a change-to modernize, to look professional again, and yes, to be the kickoff of a brand new start. I did my research on Queens' salons and kept coming back to Riva-so I called to make an appointment, and they had availability the day after we moved. The. Day. After. I should've said no, lets look further out. I should have run...but I didn't, so I came to the salon the day after moving an entire household over 200 miles. I left a house full of boxes, tired and aggravated family, I had NO idea how to get around the neighborhood and I thought this was a great choice of a day to completely change my hair! LOL Ohhhh boy. I walked into the salon with box-colored DARK brown hair and I wanted to go light. I wanted blonde. And bless her heart, Lauren did it. 7 hours later, she managed to turn a home-colored dark mess into a gorgeous light brown with caramel and blond highlights. And Orlando gave me a fantastic cut I couldn't stop staring at. And what did I do? How did I react? I cried. I sat in a chair and bawled....and I could not stop. Why? Because as gorgeous as it was (and it was), it didn't exactly match the picture in my head. Uh-huh, Go on, crazy person (I can hear everyone reading this thinking that and you would not be wrong). I couldn't stop crying. The real reason? I was worn out from the last few years of constant stress, and exhausted from the move and had barely slept the night before. I just couldn't put any of that into words, so I just kept crying (believe me, I knew I looked and sounded like an idiot. I tried stopping, it wasn't happening). What happened next is why I will never go anywhere else for my hair as long as we live in the area and why I can't urge anyone who is reading this too strongly to GO TO RIVA. Seriously, GO HERE. In many, many salons (we've all seen customers have a bad moment or two over the years) I would have been handed a tissue and a bill and sent on my way. Nope. Isaak, the owner, came over to the chair and told me, "It's ok, don't worry, we'll make it what you want." He didn't say they would fix it...there was nothing to fix. It was a gorgeous cut and a beautiful color but he saw that I was completely overwhelmed and instead of trying to convince me that it was ok, he leaned into the moment I was having. He gave me the option to stay then or leave and come back in a week or so (I stayed b/c if I'd left like that, I don't think I would have gone back) and he put some more highlights in. It wasn't a ton of them-it honestly didn't change the overall look that much, but it was what I needed at that moment. Lauren was so kind and understanding after spending literally hours fixing my hair and doing an amazing job, only to have me start bawling. Orlando gave me a wonderful cut, and then styled it again after Isaak did the extra color. Like I said in the beginning of the review...at a certain price point (at any price point really, but we all know the expectations when the price rises), you expect that people will be technically proficient at their jobs. Everyone I saw at Riva was all that and more, but it was their kindness that I will never forget. It was their ability to look and see that I wasn't just being a difficult person (and I was crying, I never said anything rude or mean), there was more behind the upset than anything to do with the color or cut. I had high hopes for this soon as it was in neighborhood. The stylist and owner are very nice, and my haircut and color were ok, but making an appointment was always complex. On my last attempted appointment the receptionist told me that I was booked incorrectly and was not accommodating. I took a day off of work and found the receptionist told be rude and dismissive. I recently tried Riva after moving back to the neighborhood. I rarely write bad reviews, but this is by far the worst haircut I've ever had - I've never felt so ugly in my life. I had shoulder length hair and wanted it trimmed to chin length, no layers, just one blunt cut. I ended up with a bob up to my ears, the back is 2 inches shorter than the front and is extremely uneven. She told me she stacked the back, but its not fluid and really just completely botched. With it being so short, there really is nothing I can do to make it look better so now I just have to grow it out. Made a hair cut appointment in person - asked the manager in the front how much was the cut and she asked to see my length so I showed her my hair She said $75 and I said ok. Went the next day for my hair cut - got my cut went to pay and the same person that I had spoken to the previous day tells me $87 dollars. I corrected her and she fixed it but I felt very uncomfortable about it. That cut was ok but I'm rethinking about going back. I really dislike this new flip flopping on salon prices. NEVER COMING BACK! First of all I don't know how this place has good reviews. I guess they're good with haircuts but NOT with hair coloring. I went there for the first time today, because I saw the reviews and it seemed like a good place to get a balayage. However, I have never been so disappointed and miserable after getting my hair done. I made an appointment and I got assigned to the hairstylist Jodi. I showed her a picture of what I wanted (picture 1) and she said that she was going to melt my roots so it blends better and that it was okay, she said she was able to do it. A BALAYAGE TAKES ABOUT 4 -5 HOURS SPECIALLY ON MY HEAD BECAUSE I HAVE A LOT OF HAIR. I kid u not, she took 2.5 and was done. After that, I got a blowout by ORLANDO. ORLANDO was the sweetest person and very understanding. He curled my hair and took his time with it. I explained to him that this is not what I asked for at all and I showed him how my roots where not done at all. He comforted me and was nice about it, he even gave me hair advice. Overall, even if one worker was nice and good at his job, does not justify other hairstylists ruining one's hair and doing something completely different than what u asked for.
