Came here close to closing on a Friday night and they were quick to accommodate my friends and I who wanted a late night sweet treat. Ordered a small seasonal shake and it reminded me so much of an Apple pie. We sat under the string lights for a whole before coming home w our leftovers. Can't wait to come back and try more flavors. read more

Ritters frozen custard is an year around custard and ice cream establishment located in the city or Indianapolis indiana. My Family and I was in town on a weekend getaway from louisville for my daughters cheer competition when we decided to find the nearest ice cream that was open in mid January. This place was 3 miles from our hotel so we made the drive over. Place must be pretty popular as it had a decent line (3 cars) for a random snowy January night around 830pm. The line moved pretty quickly. The menu is mainly custards and sundaes and offers only hot dogs and hamburgers as food. Although on our trip they were out of all food. This would be a common theme even for the ice cream. The place might as well been closed for the night. They were out of all food, out of chocolate ice cream and out of all sugar free options except one (wife is pregnant right now with gestational diabetes). With that info we did what we could. I personally got the mud sundae and since they was out of chocolate ice cream I had them put in vanilla custard and squirt tons of chocolate syrup in it. It was solid. I'm sure it s much better in its intended form with chocolate ice cream. Custard has a real sweet taste to it. My wife got her only option of the vanilla with no sugar added. She said it was good but nothing that makes it stand above other ice cream places she has had back home. My daughter got a cookies and cream and it was very tasty. She doesn't care much for it but I Samples it and preferred it much more then my mid sundae. Overall, it's a cool little place with a unwise circular building and solid options assuming they have them in stock. Not sure if we just had bad luck or if that is a constant issue for this place. The place did close in 30 minutes so I feel it could of been a matter of the younger workers who weren't very motivated or pleasant in the first place just not wanting to open the kitchen backup. It was a random snowy January night so I'm not sure how many people were coming here for hot dogs and chocolate ice cream. The area this place was located in was kinda vacant for the most part. So who knows I could be wrong on that feeling. read more

Stopped by this afternoon after a couple amazing trips to the Brownsburg location. They've got a nice patio with flowers, tables and umbrellas but unfortunately we had to leave pretty quickly because there were so many bees around. The employees were kind and working quickly. My husband enjoyed his strawberry shake with hot fudge. My mud slide sundae with cookies and cream base was a let down. The top was super melted and the custard in the middle had several large chunks of ice and was not nearly as smooth and creamy as I've experienced at the other location. Threw away most of it. Perhaps an off day here but I'll continue visiting where I've had a great experience. Great for summer!! I love the strawberry shortcake. So refreshing on a hot summer day. There is usually just one maybe 2 people working. You eat outside or go thru drive thru. There is no indoor seating like the new one in Brownsburg. The price went up from $5 to $6 for a glacier. read more

Yummy. My mom and I were out this way picking up a table, and she asked me if I knew if this place was still open since other locations had closed. It was hot, so perfect weather for some cold treats. I didn't know so decided to drive over to see. Happy to report, it is still open. Years ago we both liked their Almond Enjoy sundae, but we didn't see it listed on the menu. My mom asked the friendly employee if they could still make them and to my surprise they said yes. Two Almond Enjoys for us. I noticed a truck advertising their catering services as well. Good to keep in mind for events. read more

Great prices, large menu with different treats and hot food, decently-paced service. Went here for the first time today and I definitely will be back; I'd love sit in their outdoor area! I got a gelati with rootbeer italian ice and it was great. Portion sizes are generous as well; I got a small and it was plenty. read more

This place was great at one point but has completely gone to shit over the past summer. Children managing shifts, sitting at their desk "training" while playing on their phones. Meanwhile there were cars in drive thru wrapped around the building into the street, the 30 minute wait for the walk ups was idiotic, and the orders weren't even getting done right! Avoid this place like the plague!! read more

I got a Reese's glacier with extra Reese's and peanut butter sauce. The custard is so tasty and relatively priced well. This large was $6 but included two extra toppings. The environment is so cool-- the string lights and round tables make for good space for families. You can order by walking up to the window or using the drive thru. I love that they mostly employ young adults; they have been so great! Also, I'm a big fan of their management. Make sure you go visit! read more

Went to Ritters on 56th Georgetown Rd today4/28/24 went thru the drive thru ask ice cream in a waffle bowl I was told they were out, so I ask for waffle cone they were out of that also, Why wait for the customer to ask for things you know you are out of, a sign should've been posted in the windows that you were out of waffle cones, and waffle bowls, and then when the customer pulls up to the drive-through when you ask, can I help you you should've immediately tell them that at the time you're out of waffle bowls, and waffle cones, which you were out of waffle bowls, and waffle cones last summer also, I guess will have to continue to go to Cold Stone Creamy, just thought I would give Ritters another try But I am done will not be going back read more

This is a neat little place with a plethora of options. I'm not a huge shake or ice cream person, but we were craving something sweet after dinner out in Indy and I found this on Google with great reviews. The staff are very friendly, helpful and patient. I like anything with Oreo so we went for their Oreo shake with extra Oreo. Portions are pretty massive FYI. This was really delicious and I'd go back to try some of their other stuff. read more

There should be more Ritter's! In fact, there used to be more on the west side, but sadly most closed over the years - I'm glad there's still one not too far from me! Of the frozen custards in the area, Ritter's is my favorite. This appears to have 6 or so flavors a day, and glaciers and sundaes you can customize to your liking. Currently they have a pineapple upside-down cake sundae, which is pretty good. They also have Italian ice, but I haven't tried it. They have Nathan's hot dogs which you can get with chili and cheese, which are good if you need something savory before getting a frozen treat. I saw Ritter's trailer pull in while I was there - it looks like maybe you can have Ritter's come for an event! read more

This is a family favorite. A traditional walk up counter custard shop offering great cool treats. Typically staffed with high school students in the summer, but they are always friendly. Give them a break if they make a mistake every now and then. A mistake sweet treat is still delicious. My husband's go to is Peanut butter sundae and mine is the turtle sundae. Though, every now and then I mix in bananas or switch out hot fudge with pineapple. They also offer ice cream pies which are perfect for those summer parties instead of cake or cupcakes. read more

Too many high school boys outside talking to the high school girls inside. I waited in the drive thru for 10-12 minutes without the line moving while a lot of kids chatted. Finally pulled around and ordered out front after a couple boys finished their conversation with the girls inside at the window. That being said, the service was friendly and fantastic. How have I not reviewed Ritter's before?! The frozen custard is creamy, fresh, and delicious. They have flavors of the day that rotate, and all of those that I've had have been excellent. I often circle back to my standard order though of a small Butterfinger Glacier. They put in just enough of the Butterfinger pieces to make the perfect ice cream to candy ratio. A small is perfect if you just want a regular dessert. My guess is that it's the equivalent of two scoops. For a big splurge I love their signature sundaes. The Peanut Butter Mountain is my Favorite, but the Turtle Sundae and Mud Sundae are excellent as well. These are huge and I always feel stuffed but happy after I finish one of these. They have nutrition information online....don't look....you don't want to know....it is ice cream after all. I've also had their Turtle Pie which is a great dessert for a group. Service is always friendly and fast. Any slow downs are usually due to customers being overwhelmed by all the options. They are operating both the walk up and drive through windows during COVID and have plexiglass to protect staff. Staff are wearing masks, but they're just encouraged for customers; be kind and wear one at the window too to give staff extra protection. Outdoor tables are available for anyone who wants to stay to eat their ice cream. Along with most other businesses, if customers are paying with cash they're requesting exact change, and so credit or other electronic payment is preferred. This is a great local chain! read more

Overall: A childhood favorite, Ritter's is a must-go option for anyone craving custard euphoria. The good: The glaciers are absolute bliss - I go with the usual custard and Reese's, Oreo, or Snickers, and I'm always satisfied and happy. Maybe I'm biased because of my nostalgic tendencies, but this is the best custard I've ever had. The sizes are generous, you don't want to get anything bigger than a medium (for a glacier anyway), and the variety of options is huge. The amount of candy is plentiful and every bite is delicious. I've never had their ice cream because I'm always craving the good stuff, but I'm sure it's great in its own way. The not-so-good: Depending on who you get, the service can be slow and iffy. Every time I go to Ritter's I end up getting either a small, or sometimes a medium oreo glacier with extra oreos. Usually, when I get their oreo glacier it's either the regular custard, or the very delicious creamy, and smooth taste of Ritter's chocolate. So, I recently started getting the Italian blue raspberry slushy drink without the custard on top. The blue raspberry slushy is so delicious, and very addictive especially on a nice day. I'm glad that Ritter's updated the building, and added a drive-thru which I'm pretty sure it has been good for the business. read more

This was our second time being here. I'm from Cincinnati originally so I got excited when I saw they had glaciers. However the pictures looked nothing like the glaciers I'm used to, which is usually ice cream with slushy poured around it. Their glaciers are more of what you would get if you ordered a blizzard from Dairy Queen. The sweet girl at the counter named Devyn (not sure how to spell it) helped me figure out what I needed to order to get as close to what I wanted. The mangelicious sipper was delicious. It still is not the texture of a glacier that I was aiming for but it was as close enough. My fiancé got a chocolate dipped waffle cone with sprinkles and strawberry and vanilla ice cream. It looked good but melted quickly, which is his own fault for not getting it in a bowl. Located off Georgetown road I was a bit nervous because we usually have terrible service at the restaurants around here. But Devyn was so sweet and helpful. I'm home in Indy visiting family and stopped with my niece for Glaciers. I was shocked to see what passed for a Ritters regular size Oreo glacier these days! Do you see the glacier in the first photo? No? Oh, there it is, way down in there! Both of the regular size glaciers we ordered were like this - underfilled cups, same high price. We even asked the person to please fill it up a bit more and they just glared at us. Shockingly poor customer service, under-sized servings - this is not the Ritters I remember. Really too bad. read more

Any other day I would give them 5 stars. However today I'm disappointed. The past 3 times I've been they made custom pints and quarts for you and that's usually what I get. I went today and I asked for a customized pint and she said they don't do that anymore but I could get a glacier. I was tempted to buy a glacier and ask for an empty pint and put it in there in front of them. Not impressed. read more

This was my second visit to Ritter's this week. I prefer the W 57th location over the rest of the city. Two words: Blueberry. Glaciers. I'm so glad to have such a great ice cream place right up the street. They have outdoor ordering and a drive up which is fantastic during the winter months. I'm simple and love their butter pecan ice cream. But their other ice creams and specialty items are great too. It's mostly teenagers that work there but they are always nice and pleasant. My family and I usually go there once a week and have never had bad service. read more

I was purely delighted to discover there is still a Ritter's in Indy! We lost Ritter's on the west side years ago. My husband and I made a dash for frozen custard after a night of climbing. I was craving peppermint. Score!! Chocolate peppermint crunch glacier. It's mid-winter so only the drive through was open, but that worked just fine. Service was fast, friendly, and the custard was every bit as delicious as I remembered. Amazing. Why oh why did the other locations have to close? Keep this gem busy, please. I want to keep coming back. Few other ice cream places accomplish this level of deliciousness! Oh: bonus, I'm currently using Noom as my nutrition tracker, and the calories were available to easily log. 270 calories for a small??? Yes please! Happiness. read more

Came here with my in-laws not long after I had had wisdom teeth surgery. So unfortunately, I didn't try any of the ice creams with mix-ins or anything like that. I did, however, try their strawberry banana smoothie and let me tell you, it was delicious. Just the right amount of strawberry and banana flavor and just what I needed for a sweet, cool treat. The staff was super nice and didn't even bat an eye when I asked for a spoon with my smoothie instead of a straw. read more

Ritter's has decent frozen custard. Service is fast and friendly, and prices are reasonable. My main complaint is that there's no indoor seating. That would be fine if we lived on the equator and wanted to eat ice cream outside all the time, but here, there are probably only 4 or 5 months where I would be OK with that. Eating ice cream in the car can get messy, and if you have to eat in your car anyway, they should have a drive through, rather than making you stand outside in the cold while you order and wait for your frozen custard. It would also be nice if they had more flavor options. read more

We nom here all the time. Freshly made waffle cones and delicious ice cream. The waffle cone bowls and banana splits are incredible but the Italian ice is just OK. But it's an ice cream stand so what are you doing getting Italian ice! If I had to change anything, the kids who work there need some better customer service training. They don't greet customers, no niceties (thanks, you're welcome, have a nice day), and they are very slooooow to do anything. But I also get that it's a little ice cream stand staffed with a bunch of angsty teenagers who can't be bothered with basic professionalism. Pretty much what you'd expect and not enough to stop me from enjoying their tasty frozen treats! read more

If it's open and I'm in Indy, I find my way there! I absolutely love this place. Their frozen custard is always nice and rich and the service always very friendly. My one complaint is that the ice cream sometimes looks disgusting after much usage and it's a bit gross to think about. read more
