I am prescribed a controlled substance by my doctor, a psychiatrist based in California, and they even spoke directly with the pharmacist. Despite this, the pharmacist refused to fill my prescription, citing no valid reason and instead, suggested that I take my prescription to CVS. This encounter felt discriminatory and unprofessional. The pharmacist's demeanor was dismissive and condescending, and it was evident that they were on a power trip rather than adhering to any legitimate policy. As a patient, I rely on timely access to my psychiatric medication, and being treated this way is both frustrating and unacceptable. I hope Rite Aid addresses this issue and ensures their pharmacists provide respectful and professional service to ALL patients. I'll be filling a formal complaint against Ray/ Rite Aid with the California board of Pharmacy and the DEA. I urge others to do the same. After reading previous reviews, Ray requesting customers "return/exchange" meds is a violation of both federal and state regulations. Not sure what happens with pharmacist Ray's drug refusal and take back programs, but he is clearly not a federal marshal or employee of the DEA. *Also as an update for Audrey the CS bot below, I did call rite aid immediately and requested a follow up. Have I experienced a delay in getting prescriptions? Of course, but communication, patience and kindness help get what I need. I take a few medications daily so I visit this CVS location's pharmacy staff 1-2 times per month for refills and appreciate how they make these visits effortless. They make sure to educate me about my CVS and Caremark app and medication info. Suggestion: If you're having difficulty getting your meds filled, I suggest reaching out to your health insurance company and asking for a pharmacy benefits rep. They should assist with reviewing your benefits, contacting your doctor's office if a prior authorization is needed, and contact the pharmacy to assist you in getting your medications. I've found that calmly explaining the situation works better than shrieking or berating. As for the retail side, I used to makeup shop at CVS stores because the coupons and deals were great. Then the pandemic happened, so I stopped wearing makeup and grew my eyebrows back so I don't really shop for makeup anymore. I'll use CVS coupons to buy medical items as needed, but most items are a little too expensive for me these days. Other than that, I appreciate my CVS store, especially my pharmacy team. They still have soft lines and toys and electronics and a Tire & Lube but very limited food and groceries. The restroom was clean and I checked out the limited selection of RV stuff. I parked the Sprinter van in the area between the Walmart and the grocery store with two or three other motorhomes. It was mostly quiet until the stores closed, then it was completely quiet. Not the case as all. I feel like an outcast and every time I go in to pick up my prescription, it seems like no one is available to help and that they are always busy, however the "busy" is just pacing back and forth making it look like they are doing something. They will walk right up to the counter just to make sure they ignore you. They are definitely not short staff. No one greets you in any aspect and are not friendly at all. Even the pharmacist looks at you as if they are judging you. And their technology is so out of date it is ridiculous. I will definitely be looking for a new pharmacist. This definitely does not have the small town of Exeter friendliness that I am used to.
