When I arrived there were three customers in the store and one sales associate, Hector (Ceja), in attendance. Hector was helping a customer (couple) with compression stockings but acknowledged me, asked if I needed help and directed me to the right section. Then he went to help another customer who was inquiring about beds and complaining about prices. Hector was patient in trying to explain about the products and service available, the whole while the customer was online checking Amazon and complaining. Why that person didn't just leave and buy online, I have no clue. The store was well stocked and clean. I found the prices reasonable for the products and quality very good to high for the items I was interested in. Hector was courteous and efficient in checking me out despite seeming a bit distressed about the complaining customer's loud diatribe. He told me about a sale that would be starting up and gave me business cards. My brother-in-law wears compression stockings so I gave the information to my sister. They have shopped Amazon for compression stockings but find that they stretch out and deteriorate fairly quickly thus requiring repurchase. I suggested they check out the products at The Bone Store. I also did online research BEFORE going into the store and what I found was cheaper, but also of inferior quality. Ultimately, 'cheaper' often means repeated purchases costing more over time. I would recommend to any one looking for medical grade equipment to do thorough research, including an in-store visit to determine needs and economy. Rather than seek a way to bridge this gap however Apria - either by virtue of the people handling my situation or their company's policies - wrote me off entirely, running through what was clearly a standard script that I unfortunately could not understand. The same person called back and repeated the experience with an equal lack of care for actually communicating the situation. I was then sent to collections, from whom I learned that there was a bill I owed (news to me at the time). I am new to town and didn't have my new Medi-Cal card yet. When I called, they couldn't find my insurance on file but kindly told me to just come in anyway. The moment I walked in, an Asian lady with a warm, welcoming smile greeted me and was very attentive. She passed my case to a gentleman who was just as nice, and they went above and beyond to run my old card until they successfully located my file. The only issue was that my ADHD medication was out of stock. Because it's a black box medication, missing a dose can really disrupt your mental health, so I was initially worried. They promised to order it first thing Monday morning to have it by Monday afternoon. Since today is Friday and I just took my last dose, I am really counting on that timeline! I briefly thought about giving four stars because a heads-up call when they found out they didn't have my insurance information before I drove over would have been ideal, because it would have given them enough time to locate me in the system and order it that same day. Ultimately, at the end of the day, what matters most in Visalia's healthcare system at this point for me is being treated with empathy, dignity, and true care.
