Nick is an absolute legend!…read more We came to Portofino not knowing what to expect, and we left completely blown away -- and honestly, a huge part of that was our waiter, Nick. This guy is on another level. From the moment we sat down, Nick's energy, knowledge, and genuine passion for hospitality set the tone for the entire evening. He wasn't just taking our order -- he was curating an experience. Now let's talk about the Cacio e Pepe -- insanely good doesn't even begin to cover it. It was perfectly executed: silky, bold, with just the right bite of pepper. Classic done right. But you know what made it taste even better? Nick. He recommended it with such confidence and enthusiasm that we had to order it, and he absolutely delivered. Nick was attentive without being overbearing, knowledgeable without being pretentious, and just an all-around fantastic human being. He made us feel like VIP guests from start to finish -- checking in at exactly the right moments, offering spot-on suggestions, and keeping the whole experience flowing effortlessly. If you go to Portofino, you absolutely should ask for Nick by name. He is the kind of server that reminds you why going out to dinner is supposed to be a special occasion. We will 100% be back, and Nick is a big reason why. Portofino, you have a gem on your staff. Treat him well!

The appetizers and pasta dishes were amazing! We will definitely be back. This is a great family restaurant.

A very long wait for delivery (may be due to Saturday arrivals/multiple delivery orders) but the pizzas were not hot and not what we expected when delivered. Adequate tasting pizza. The Deets: We usually get pizza our first night arriving in Holden Beach and this time was not different. However, this time we decided to go with trying some place new in Sorella Pizza & Pasta (I would have preferred a pasta/meal from here but house ruled pizza, I go with the flow). Choices were made with the Hawaiian Punch 16" pizza (ham, pineapple, bacon, shredded mozzarella, tomato sauce from online menu) and the Holden Beach Hammer 16" pizza (online menu described as their "everything" with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, onions, black olives, tomato sauce). I can understand that Saturday arrival can be a busy day for restaurants doing delivery and it was explained that it would take a long while. But it was at least an hour and half or more, and the house was getting restless. The delivery person apologized for the long wait time and we appreciated that. When we opened up the two pizzas, first of all noticed they were not hot. Again, there were a lot of deliveries I am guessing but it definitely was not hot and with it being just down the road a bit, a bit disappointing. The Hawaiian Punch pizza was the one that did not really meet everyone's expectations. The crust, while thin, seemed to be a bit underdone. If I get a thin crust pizza, I do expect it to be crispy as well. Also the toppings were a bit underwhelming as well but I found the taste adequate for being hungry, I had a couple of slices. The Holden Beach Hammer pizza was more of a rectangular pizza in appearance and the crust was significantly thicker and more doughy (personally, not my favorite type of pizza crust). The toppings seemed OK but not over generous for what was described, however tasted adequate again. It may be chalked up to a very busy Saturday arrival day time, but I feel this delivery pizza experience was more around an "OK" one if anything. I am hoping to try Sorella in the future where I can get one of the Italian pasta or meal menu selections to see how they do with those.

We originally planned to try another highly rated Italian restaurant in the area, but after reading…read moremore detailed reviews, it seemed overpriced with inconsistent quality and smaller portions--more suited for a date night than a family meal where value matters. Based on my brother-in-law's recommendation, we decided to try this place instead, and I'm glad we did. From the start, the experience stood out. The food quality was excellent, and the portions were surprisingly generous--something you don't often find at Italian restaurants. They also offer complimentary bread with a choice of soup or salad, which is becoming increasingly rare. Even more impressive, these weren't afterthoughts. The bread was perfectly crusty and served with a flavorful olive oil infused with tomato and garlic. Both the salad and chicken soup were fresh and well-prepared. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals. I had the chicken Sorrento with prosciutto and mushrooms over pasta, and it was outstanding--well-balanced, flavorful, and cooked just right. The restaurant itself is clean and nicely designed, creating a comfortable atmosphere without feeling overly formal. Service was quick, and our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout. I don't often give five-star reviews, but this place truly earned it. It delivers on both quality and value, which is a combination that's hard to find.

Location is on busy Highway 17 N. Parking is adequate for the restaurant of this size. When inside,…read morethe restaurant is darkly lit, with candle light. Numerous tables and booths available for seating, as well as the bar. And outside dining is also an option. Prices & portions seem reasonable. This place appears to get quite busy and also looks to have many regulars. Family-owned- European and Northern Italian influence. We came on a Saturday night, shorty before close, so we were able to get two seats at the bar. Our bartender was extremely attentive throughout our visit. Complementary bread is provided. Comes with a nice oil and garlic blend. Ordered the Bucatini Puttanesca & Spaghetti with Italian Sausage. These come with a dinner salad or up grade to a Caesar for $2 more (which I did). Both salads were fresh and delicious. I will say one of the best caesar dressings I've had. The pasta, presentation was lovely. The flavors bland, tomato sauce (tastes straight from the can) had no additional spices present and the pasta way over cooked. Seems their noodles are pre-cooked and Al Dente then is just not possible. This is another reason why the rating was just below average. Really disappointing. Would not be a place we would revisit.
