I live in Chicago, but I've been on the hunt for Amish peanut butter spread. Since I was going to be in the area, I called Rise' n Roll Bakery to see if it was in stock. The person on the phone was polite and helpful, informing me that the Michawaka location carries this item. The next day, I stopped by. Sure enough! My mission succeeded because Rise' n Roll had Amish peanut butter spread in two convenient sizes! (Don't you just love it when an employee relays accurate information?) In addition, the staff in the store when I arrived were very, very friendly and enthusiastic about all of the products, especially the baked goods. The store was clean and organized, and the slice of blueberry pie I purchased was divine. I will go out of my way to visit Rise 'N Roll Bakery whenever I can. Big and super tasty donuts- the place is clean, bright, everything looks so delicious and is well merchandised- so many jams, jellies, cheese balls, pies, cookies, soup mixes and of course DONUTS! We asked for a assorted box and got a wonderful assortment and they even wrote on the top of the box what each one was under it so we knew exactly what each one is- it was a little bit over $15.00 for a dozen assorted but they are BIG and sooo good!!! Usually when you go to locally made bakeries and shops of that sort, you expect to pay quite a bit for the pastries and other products. Surprisingly, this place was very affordable. The pies, breads, doughnuts, cookies, jams, and everything else were extremely affordable. Honestly, it's comparable to a name brand in a grocery store. We opted for the cinnamon roll with cream cheese. DI-VINE. My mouth is still watering. We also got the Apple cinnamon doughnut (chunks of apples and jam and cinnamon inside the doughnut) and we got a chocolate glazed doughnut with Bavarian cream. Hands down, some of the best pastries I've tried. Caution: they did give me and my friend some stomach issues, but maybe it's cause we don't indulge in sweets too often. Worth it though! read more

Rise n Roll has the BEST "crack" donuts. I honestly don't know the real name of them but they're caramel something. Whatever they are and however they make them are AMAZING! Actually, most things I have had from here are superb. I love their chocolate covered crunch - I think pecan is my favorite but cashew is pretty good as well. The nut crunches are also good plain but I prefer them with chocolate. They have really good cheese as well and all their sweets look yummy. I love stopping in because they have various samples out so you can find more things you love and buy while you're there. The staff here have always been friendly & kind. We have purchased bread several times in the past as well and they do a really nice job. Service has always been cheerful. Awesome Amish style bakery with fresh baked goods, unique sodas, awesome donuts and a deli that serves up some excellent biscuits and gravy. The hot dogs for lunch are pretty good too. I am not sure of the brand hot dog but I definitely recommend them. They carry all the standard Amish fare you would find in Lancaster, PA except in Mishawaka, Indiana including Lebanon Bologna (named after Lebanon, Pennsylvania). I got the pumpkin doughnut. It was basically the caramel and cinnamon doughnut with pumpkin filling inside. It's not like pumpkin straight out of the can but it's more a buttercream/mousse texture. It had a hint of spiciness so if you like that, you'll love this! We got their doughnuts with the cinnamon powder sugar. It's so good. The doughnut had the perfect fluff and it melts right in your mouth. It's soft and the texture is just really good when you bite into it. The powder sugar cinnamon is so good. It's sweet so you have to watch out for your sugar level. I would come back here again! So many things to try other than doughnuts. I'm an outta towner visiting for just a day with my beautiful step daughter who is a local. We had lunch at McAlisters (see review) and Rise and Roll came up. The dreamy eyes she made when mentioning them perked my little ears up, but when she said I could order something Amish Crack, that's all I needed. Indeed I did go to the counter and whispered " I'm here for the crack" and was pointed to a long table of boxes of crack, (this joke does not get old to me!!!). Quite simply I'm referring to SUPER MOIST, almost wet donuts smothered in a powdered cinnamon sugar. Since being full from lunch, I bought a half dozen to go. The shop is quite large for a bakery, and a moderate amount of samples are scattered around the store. I enjoyed three types of brittle, sundried tomato focaccia, donuts and cookies. Okay I am not going to lie, I love the donuts and rolls Rise' N Roll bakery offers, but probably went in for the last time this morning. I got a good check-up at my yearly Doctor visit so thought I would treat myself. I got one for this morning and was going to purchase 2 for tomorrow morning, before leaving for work. The cashier said $9 and something for the 3. I said that can't be right, and she said yes they were that much. WHAT? For 2 donuts and a roll? I said that is insane, just give me the one carmel roll with the white filling. There is a point when certain things must be cut out of our expenses, and this is going to be one fo them, they have crossed the line. I don't care how good they are, at times we have to draw a line in the sand!!! This is one of those, I realize eating out period is expensive with the economy, but lets get real. The people here are very friendly and it is really one of the only donut shops around. The first time I went I got some sort of pumpkin filled donut. Don't do that. (Or should I say do-not get that donut hah...) It wasn't horrible, but it just wasn't great. And I think it you're going to eat a donut it really should be good. Also, for what it's worth, the coffee is not great. Today I got a chocolate glazed and a caramel glazed and found both to be quite good. Wish they had Sunday morning hours. read more
