Morning cheat!!! Best way to break the diet!
Harry B.

Reviewed multiple times. Been here a bunch and service is almost always really good. But the donuts are always great. Favorite is the crunch. With homemade toffee and a great donut. But all are fantastic. What's your favorite? Nice little shop with all kinds of Amish goodies.

Still the best donuts in the country! This has been verified by multiple sources. Highly recommend their classic cinnamon caramel donuts, affectionately referred to by locals as Amish crack. However, all of their donuts are delicious. They have many flavors. They also have a selection of other baked goods, snacks, and locally produced Amish goods like preserves, jams, apple butter, and popcorn. In the cold case they have items such as a roll of butter and local milk. If you're anywhere nearby, it's a must visit.

My favorite donuts are the Crunch Delight Bismark and the Cinnamon Caramel Donut!

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I am from Colorado but have found myself in southern Michigan the past two summers. Last year my friend's family made the 45 minute trip to get Rise 'n Roll and I loved it so much that I insisted we go back again this year! The box literally says "for those who want the best and know the difference" and without a doubt I can taste and smell the legitimate difference in these donuts versus any other. The ingredients are obvious in quality! Overall, this place has some of the best donuts out there! I also love that you can learn more about the Amish culture by supporting this business. 11/10 recommend!

For the one person out there who doesn't yet know about Rise 'n Roll, this is your lucky day. And not just because of the Irish. I'll attempt to describe, but you'd be better served just trusting me and showing up. RnR bakes "for those who want the best -- and know the difference!" I concur. The remainder of this piece will consist of me convincing you of the obvious, impatient since I know those tasty delicacies are just waiting for you to stop reading and start eating. Let's start with the bellwether: the Cinnamon Caramel Donut. Just camp out here all day if you're a newbie or bad decision-maker, or love extra pounds. Something they do in that secret recipe makes this taste unlike anything else out there in donut world. I'm sure somebody somewhere has something close, but you go find it and leave me here. Oh wait I'm supposed to be convincing you to stay (I know I don't have to). These also come in "hole" size, perfect for grabbing a box to eat in entirety slowly one at a time, while proclaiming "well one more won't hurt, and besides they're so small". Meanwhile 1,000,000 calories later when you rouse from that caramel-coma, it'll be worth it. Later, on the second day, branch out to the Peanut Bismark, Crunch Bismark, or fabulous Apple Fritter. Of course have more Cinnamon Caramel, and then nighty-night. Don't stop with the donuts though; go on an alleged health kick with pumpkin bread, various pies, cashew crunch, and many other crunches. When you're ready for something actually healthy, wash it all down with some Amish cheese, egg noodles, or Old Fashioned Traffic Jam. Consider it a reverse meal. But be sure to round it back out with one more Cinnamon Caramel. With many locations from Shererville to Valpo to Fort Wayne and Indy, you won't have to make the trek to Middlebury (but why not visit the mothership). Meanwhile if I lived 5 mins away from this Mishawaka location I'd be a few hundy heavier. So let's all raise a round-one to the Amish and savor the delicacies.

I heard this amish bakery gets rave reviews for their donuts but you have to be there early enough to put in your order because they sell out quickly. I knew I would get to this location in the afternoon so I was prepared for a limited selection. Since I am not a huge fan of donuts, I arrived with the intention to try something different. I lucked out big time coming in during the fall season because I tried the pumpkin whoppie pies and they are down right AWESOME. I went back another day to try the chocolate cupcake. Due to the shortage of crucial ingredients, the bakery has reduced production but the general store items are available such as jams, bread, coffee, pies, etc...

Every time I come home to visit my niece has been telling me to come here. Finally and literally on my way out of town, I drove by and decided to stop and grab some donuts for the road. First of all, this is more than a donut shop. I was overwhelmed with everything they had to offer, in a good way. Service was great and helped me hone in on what I wanted. Samples are available for the donut I was told they are famous for. Donuts, pastries, pies and more. I ended up with half a dozen donuts (each one could easily be cut in half and shared) and a sticky bun and cheese danish. So my absolute favorite and what I will come back for the next visit home is the peanut butter and chocolate donut-WOW! If you love that combination you must try this.

Today though, I walked in thinking this might be it... my hunt for the best fired pizza in South Bend might finally be over. I saw the giant pizza oven and thought, "yeah, this is about to be serious." So naturally... I stayed for lunch. It was busy, but the self-serve kiosk made ordering easy. I went all in Pepperoni Pizza, Cheesy Garlic Bread, Chicken Noodle Soup, and Shrimp Diavolo. For a packed lunch rush, 15-20 minutes wasn't bad at all. Now... the pizza. I wanted to love it. I really did. But it just didn't show up. It was pretty bland overall, and most of the flavor came from the cupped pepperoni which tasted like something you'd grab off a store shelf. The sauce tried to make a comeback, but it got completely overshadowed. The rest of the food? Honestly solid. The Chicken Noodle Soup hit the spot, and the Shrimp Diavolo was actually really good. So yeah the pizza hunt continues. The oven might look impressive, but it's not ending anyone's search just yet. But the sweets? Still a slam dunk. -The interior was clean and the seating area is large.

The restaurant is clean and attractive. I had the Croque Madame, which was literally perfect, and better than those I had in Paris. The bread was perfectly toasted, the cheese perfectly melted, the egg perfectly cooked (not runny, not overly hard), the ham perfectly salted. Others in my group enjoyed the Short Ribs Benedict, Grand Bebe, and Tortilla de Patatas. (I'll note our first visit was the morning after a Notre Dame home game, and their stores were depleted: we could have anything on the menu as long as it was chicken. :) The chicken dishes we had that visit were very well done as well - moist and juicy on the inside and lovely on the outside. Obviously we came back, just not after a home game!)

Onion Soup Gratinee - $11 - Needed salt and wasn't very flavorful. 2/5 stars. Chorizo and Shrimp - $22 - This was easily the best dish. Cooked well, good flavor, and a decent portion (probably because the price is so high). 4/5 stars. Chicken and Leek Puff Pastry - $26 - The pastry was lacking. It was soggy, weird taste to it, and just not pleasant. The filling was also mediocre. Don't get this. 0/5 stars. L'Entrecote de Paris (Steak Frites) - $45 - The steak was chewy, the fries were over salted. For $45, this was not enough steak, whatsoever. Not like it was a good cut either. It's a rip off. 0/5 stars. Pan Roasted Duck Breast - $36 - My mom and I both ordered this, and we could combine both of our dishes to make ONE duck breast. Portion was horribly small. Never have I ever been given HALF a duck breast. The sauce wasn't good either and it was broken. 2/5 stars cause the rest of it was cooked fine. The birthday dessert was a scoop of ice cream and some stale cinnamon pastry thing. This was wildly bad. If the flavors were on point, the prices would be understandable. But the flavors were bad, the prices are expensive, and we waited a very long time to get our food. We couldn't get into a different restaurant that night (it was a Saturday night on move in weekend), but this one we could get into, and now we know why. Don't go here.

This Market is a year-round affair, so you can get Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (FFV) during the summer and fall months right from local growers; in the off seasons they purchase out of state FFV and thus are still able to offer better produce than one usually finds in the big supermarkets. This particular Farmer's Market is enclosed - as it would have to be to be year-round in the Midwest. There are roughly 50 individual sellers in the entire setup - which is laid out as a pair of stacked boxes - the middle being washrooms and the like. All the stalls face inside in a double row ... the center portion of the boxes being where sellers can back up their trucks. There is a little diner restaurant on one side that offers a bunch of nice meals - breakfast food and when we were there pulled pork nachos (yum). There is also a bakery stall. They have parking on site, but it is just barely enough for the crowds the Market attracts. We liked this market because it really was mostly FFV and not a bunch of stalls selling candles and the like. There even are a couple of stalls selling meat - at least one fresh and one frozen. Give this place a try and you'll like it.
