Totally the worst experience. First walking into the restaurant, I witness the host throw the change on the counter to a guest. Then me and my kids sat down to eat lunch on 8/2 at 1pm. My child noticed something in the food and asked me is this a bug I had to look really close and take a fork and pluck it up and yes, it was a dead roach that was cooked into the pizza. I took the whole pizza To the front desk and showed her, she said She refund me one free person. I sat at the bar here. I was told not to go to the buffet but order off the menu. It took forever for my little order of wings. When the bar is packed they sit your food on the side of the bar in hopes that the busy bartender will eventually see it. Mind you, it's people everywhere breathing over your food. Actual worst place i've ever dined in my whole life. Me, my mother and my two little sisters went, first of all, we were greeted to what very seemed like shit talk in Mandarin. Secondly, every single plate were dirty and had old dry food particles from people who previously used it. EVERY plate. Third of all, the service was awful. The entire time we were there our server would just come to collect plates every 15 minutes and not offer any refills. My son and i ate there tonight for the last time. Food- they never switch their menu up. If you eat there today they're going to have the exact same stuff if you come back next month and the month after. The lo mein noodles aren't shortened at all when they're prepared which leaves them all over the place and hanging out of the container laying on the counter. The chicken and beef dishes are tough. They advertised that they had horchata. It was flavorless with suspicious froth on top. I switched to sprite. None of their condiment bottles are kept cold. They sit out on the counter all day. The bottle labeled "mustard" was an off orangish yellow. I got the stuffed crab. The shell broke in half in my hand when i picked it up to eat it and it tasted off. Like spoiled off. I spit it out and put the remainder in the shell bucket on the table. The chocolate cake and carrot cake were from Costco and delicious. Service- the young lady that greeted us and took our payment was very polite and warm. The server didn't greet us. She was quite rude. The only time she spoke was right before we left. She never smiled or seemed happy to be there or happy that we were there. She literally tossed a stack of napkins on the table. Which says to me the bathrooms aren't being properly maintained. I was suspicious about the rags they use to clean the table. They're reusable. Not disposable. Soaking wet with lord knows what (they don't use a disinfecting spray like everywhere else). Dishes are always streaky. They have a good dj on friday nights. The chairs are ripped. The tables are wobbly. The ownership and the staff have no respect for their own establishment or the community they're serving. For what you pay to eat there($20 per person) isn't worth it. As soon as i got home i felt ill. My stomach was upset and i felt hot and lethargic. That's the last time i gamble with my life at Rio Buffet. This restaurant is the worst. I visited the restaurant with 3 kids (6, 7 & 9) because I did not want to eat there, they told me that I could not sit at the table with my kids while they ate. The waitress told me it's their policy " that all gatherings are not allowed to come in without a buffet order". I said we are not a gathering. I'm a parent with three kids. A gathering is defined as "an assembly or meeting. especially a social or festive one or one held for a specific purpose". She told me I could wait in the lobby but I could not enter with my kids unless I paid. This is totally unacceptable for me to leave my kids unattended not say illegal for kids under 13 to be unsupervised while in a public setting. While I was waiting a kid went to get some Lo-Main noodles and he couldn't get them fully with the serving utensil so the child took the noodles by the hand and added more to the plate and threw the rest in the bowl pan. My sister ate the shrimp here on 12/9/2023 , got sick on 12/10/2023. Had to go to the hospital to find out she had food poisoning and an inflamed appendix. THE POLICE OFFICER DRIVING Marlow Heights Patrol Car NO, 916 arrived on the scene at the Rio Buffet on " Graduation Afternoon August 15, 2019", once of several of the patrons suddenly noticed that there Vehicles where either stolen or towed. Like it just vanished in mid air! The Patrions were very alarmed .. partially because it was all-you-could eat! Not All you can look for you Car! The Food was cold , no soap was in the bathroom dispenser...and urine sprayed the bathroom floors. One of patron that I was with had just paid for four people including himself! The High Cost of Low living! How Sad! Now he was looking for his whip! Wow!!!! The Officer that arrived was not in awe... in the lease bit, about the car whereabouts situation. He told them that their car "must have been towed". That it has" happened on many occasions and more than likely "Bumper to Bumper" has been there!" Clealy.. the name "Bumper to Bumper" did not ring a bell with any of our eaters. The officer also said that " many accidents have accrued in that same spot in the parking lot " where two customer's cars had accidentally parked... He said that "the Mall Management had just recently painted the parking lot and that they apparently seemed to have forgotten to paint indicator lines showing a road crossing , where the lines were before, that they did not put a stop sign either. He said that it was the Mall Management's Fault.. and yes that it was not fair about the cars being towed the marking in the parking lot are not clear. And "people never know where to park their cars or when to stop or go." Apparently that parking lot is set up as a cash cow to the towing company and the restaurant. Even when the customers went in to tell the story to the owners and worker of Rio , they started laughing speaking in their own language. They sat down in a booth across and continued on as if we were not even speaking to them about our car. Each car was 175.00 to pick up. We asked the tow Man when we got there ... "Your in ca hooks with the Rio people aren't you ? You have a deal set up with them ???.. the Man at the window replied.. " Yes! We are...(lol) he said " Rio is mostly the ones that makes the calls to us, when a car is not parked right, or in their fire lane!" And "They call us alot!!" I thought I have seen it all....when it comes to "Living in DC!" I say this in quotes because the things you see living in this city is an action flick and comedy show in itself!! This place has opened me up to a whole new world of "things to do" and night life on Friday nights in the DMV. Scene of the Crime: A birthday party celebration, last Friday, for a good friend at the Rio Grande Buffet and Bar. Up until this night, I had never heard of this place nor did I know what I was getting myself into. What I encountered was one of the most bizarre, fun, ratchet, crazy "Friday Nights" that I have experienced in a long time! I mean if there is a place with decent food, fun or the happening place to be in the DC area....you can bet I have been there. Well, this time I was proven wrong. I clearly was the odd ball outside looking in! From the moment stepping into this place, I had a blast! Tell me where in this area can you find a buffet, club, bar, karaoke room with a stage and dance floor with an in-house photographer!?.....ALL IN ONE PLACE! Again..."Tell me where they do that at!?" LOL. In a buffet restaurant.....Folks were dancing, drinking and feasting on a full smorgasbord...at midnight at that! For roughly $10 per adult --I'm talking crab legs, seafood galore, American-Asian food, select comfort food, desserts and hibachi eats all under one roof! In addition, there was a separate bar area serving up the strongest drinks I have ever had! The bartenders were pouring drinks freely.....no 10 second count, measuring shot glass, or apparatus in sight. In this room there was even a dance floor in which folks seemed to definitely be twerking, decompressing and releasing the work week stresses. In a separate room, there is a Karaoke room equipped with a mini-stage, dance floor area and photographer section to capture the nights moment. Not sure if that is a profitable thing anymore these days, especially since everyone's cell phones are equipped with a camera that's probably more advanced than the camera equipment the photographer was using! But, for some odd reason, all of the crazy activity in this one place seemingly fit and served its purpose. Needless to say, a fun time for all! I thoroughly enjoyed my night, the DUI award winning drinks, customer service, and vibe of this place. Unfortunately, I can't speak to the food because I am sort of a "buffet-germ-phobe" and don't like eating food being picked over by everyone else. But....it did at least look okay! And based on my friends comments, they all said that it was good. If your looking for decent buffet eating spot during the week or a place...for that Friday "date night one stop shop"....for food, hard drinks, and some dancing....this is your place! HONORABLE MENTION: Try the "Scorpion Bowl!" This drink will knock you off your feet and bound to give you DUI...on the house! The serving is large enough in that at least three people can drink off this thing. It also comes with 151 in the middle and they light it with fire to give it a cool effect. I think it takes 3 people to drink it all. It's definitely my new favorite. The food was also good tonight. I actually enjoyed this restaurant, there was a variety of food for and affordable price. I especially love when they serve the whole crab and crawfish which had people forming a group at the buffet and hard to get. Their employees who aren't the waitstaff are rude and just walk by people as they are trying to get help or ask a question. There food is fresh and constantly being refilled and on the weekend there restaurant is always packed. I will continue to go when they have the crabs and crawfish and they would have 5 stars if their staff wasn't insanely rude!
