I really wanted to love this place, and parts of it absolutely shine. The salad bar is genuinely excellent and feels like the opening act of a great concert. Do not skip the rice and frijoles, the mango salad, or the potato salad, which is a full-on gastronomic delight and somehow tastes like someone's Brazilian aunt put her soul into it. The cocktails are another highlight. My wife had three and every single one landed. Big kudos to the bartender because that bar program is doing serious work. Dessert also deserves applause. The Brazilian cookie cake and passion fruit options are stunning, bright, and joyful, the kind of sweets that make you pause mid-conversation and nod in respect. Where things falter is the rodizio itself. The meat selection felt limited, and the quality just did not hit the mark for me. The restaurant recently transitioned from offering both traditional and halal meats to becoming fully halal, which I understand from a business and community standpoint. That said, as someone who grew up with a wide range of meat preparations, I can confidently say there is a noticeable flavor profile difference, and here it came across as flatter and less indulgent than expected. It felt like ordering a sports car and realizing it tops out at second gear. At around $150 for two with drinks, I wanted that wow factor, and it never quite arrived. For context, I enjoy places like Fogo de Chão, though I admit they sometimes overdo it on the salt. Still, I miss things like Brazilian pork sausage and pork bacon, which you will not find here due to halal certification. One of the best food experiences I ever had in NYC and coming all the way from BK to Astoria to try it out so the 35$ per person didn't disappoint! And the amazing thing is how they have a HALAL option. So coming back here is a MUST! Environment: Came in at 5pm, so the space was basically empty and very quiet vibe with a clean space and tables. Food: AYCE style with some delicious starter that you can grab yourself (Buffet style). The meat was delicious, especially because I came in early so its clear the meat was fresh and ready to be served. Each cut was tasty from chicken to different parts of the cow/lamb. Is this the best Brazilian BBQ you'll ever have? Probably not. But it's $35 for AYCE meat, so are you really complaining? In these inflationary times, that's practically free. Came here with my AYCE group, and we tried it all. Best cuts were the lamb and all forms of chicken (super tender). I probably could've eaten more, but I went to Gui Steakhouse the night before (social organizing fail) and was pretty meat-ed out. Still, I could tell the quality was on point. And who doesn't love complimentary pao de queijo? Of the salad/app buffet bar, the mashed potatoes and diced cabbage got repeat scoops from me. Their chimichurri sauce was tasty, but having just had a wasabi-fied version at Gui the night before, I didn't get too much. I had a good amount of Brazilian BBQ when I visited Brazil (my favorite country that I've ever been to), and while Rio Bonito isn't as good, it's a lot better than your overpriced Fogo de Chaos. Service was FANTASTIC, amazing, kind and attentive servers who kept coming out with more BBQ for us to try. We found this place through Facebook and decided to try it out. The area was nice and its right across the street from the original grocery store it was started from. Although it's quite small for a churrascaria, it's not bad, this place is good for small groups or couples. The buffet is small but what they served was quite good. Rice and beans, some kind of beef with mushrooms, a yummy shrimp dish and fried fish. The salad bar only had one type of salad, green beans, corn, and cucumbers, but it was enough since you're there for the meat. Even before we sat with our buffet sides, the meat came out, we didn't even turn our card over to yes, very efficient. Sirloin was very good, beef short ribs were on the money, roast beef was a little overcooked, we also tried the chicken heart, chicken wings, pork sirloin and bacon wrapped chicken. Not bad for $35/pp, it was worth the visit. The staff were very friendly and nice. Come early to grab a table, when we left the restaurant was already almost filled up. If you haven't been to a Brazilian Steakhouse before there are servers who walk around with a rack of meat and they will stop by your table if you have the "Yes Bring the Meat" card revealed. TL; DR version: Cheap AYCE churrascaria but you get what you pay for (or don't.) Meat is overall salty here and the cooking is a bit too varied here with somethings being excellent sometimes and overcooked otherwise. They serve too many large pieces/need to slice more in short. It's hard to complain however at the price point which is about half of what you pay at the fancier spots. Was here with a group recently (see Andie's post for a similar review.) This is a new very popular and reasonably priced churrascaria from the same folks as Rio Market next door. The vibes are nice feeling like a local spot. The AYCE price for adults is $35 and you have 90 minutes to finish but you'll very likely be done prior. As Andie said, due to its size, 4 people or less would be recommended. We waited a good hour for seating for our group of 6. Service was friendly otherwise and they came around quite often with the meats. Outside of the AYCE, they offer some extra entrees, a mix of drinks (both alcoholic and not,) and there's a salad bar along with some hot options. My favorite from the salad bar was a beet salad topped with sliced hardboiled eggs and I believe hearts of palm. There were also other things such as quinoa, a tomato and cucumber based salad, a macaroni salad, and other stuff with many different dressing options. Nice mix. The hot buffet included a pretty good take on the Brazilian style of stroganoff as well as a very tasty fried potato dish with bacon and other stuff. Salty but delicious. There of course as farofa as well. I wish they had a take of feijoada like some other buffets but still good. They also asked if we wanted cheese bread/pão de queijo as well as fries. You can skip the latter which are generic and filling but the cheese bread was tasty which makes sense as next door they're tasty also. For the AYCE, I'm splitting it by meat categories in order of personal preference. AYCE- Beef Top Sirloin/Picanha: Excellent and by far the best of the night. Perfectly cooked. Not overly salted and just delicious. If all the pieces were close to this, I would leave this place a 5 without needing to think. This is one of the few pieces sliced into perfectly thin pieces and they honestly should do that more. Skirt Steak/Fraldinha: Had 2 pieces of this which consist of large chunks. One of them was perfectly cooked and the other was overcooked and therefore chewy. Well flavored though a bit salty. Garlic Beef: Again a large piece. My original one was overcooked and a bit tough. I tried some from someone else who got a rarer piece later which was much better. Also salty but not too much so which was probably helped from the stronger garlic flavor Beef Ribs: Not good. Overcooked. Very dry and way too much salt. AYCE- Chicken Chicken Hearts/Coração: These were thinly cut and outstanding. Not gamey at all with a good texture. My 2nd favorite of the night Wings and Drumsticks: Both excellent. Perfectly cooked, tender, well flavored, and not overly salted. Honestly some of the best of the night along with the obligatory top sirloin later. Bacon Wrapped Chicken: Not good at all. Chicken was dry and it was too salty presumably from the bacon. Wouldn't recommend AYCE- Other Sausages/Linguiça: The sausage was smoky, salty, and sweet though perhaps a bit salty (albeit expected.) Lamb. I was happy to see something that wasn't beef but this wasn't good. The lamb was gamey and not tender being overcooked and salty. Reminded me of some bad halal carts. Not good at all It's kind of hard to rate this place. On one hand, it's a good half the price of Fogo or Platforma. On the other hand, I drank more water here than most other restaurants I've been to and the meats were not evenly cooked even for the same cuts. I've gone twice -- the first time was back in June when there was hype, and the second time was recently and the hype has died down. How vastly different the two experiences are from each other. First time: loved the drinks, the pasta at the bar, the environment, and the service! The vent above our table dripped on one of my friends, but we just made do, as it was super busy and no big deal. Second time: the environment and service make me embarrassed that I suggested this place to my group and I'm not going back. Let's breakdown the environment and service: When you walk into a restaurant, it's normal for people to look up at the newcomer, especially if the entrance is located in an open space layout. But once my group came in, diners just kept staring at us, throughout the meal. So that was really weird. At the table we were seated at, there was a huge puddle of water and as the night went on, there was red fluid from the meats on table and the floor, so I asked the host if someone could clean it. After 10 mins (not peak hours), an employee came and only mopped the red fluid. Only when I pointed out the puddle of water did they mop it. Also, there's a container of plaster and water that I'm assuming came from the ceiling in the middle of the restaurant. They've put 3 stanchions around it, but sure, ok. At this point in the dinner, there's only 4 tables left and for some reason, it was so hard to get our server's attention! They just went from one table, took down what they wanted, and bee-lined to the kitchen. And when we tried to get the attention of the rest of the staff in the back with the register, they looked at us, and ignored eye contact and my raised hand. Tell me how anyone can enjoy a meal where people are staring at you (including the table next to us!) and the staff is ignoring you? You can't. This restaurant is the best Brazilian restaurant in Astoria. When we visited a few weeks ago, everything was exemplary, from the service to the food. They bring the food to your table, and their employees walk around with sticks of meat-cut into slices in front of you. We tasted pork, lamb, beef, and other cuts. Initially, we did not want to wait for 30 minutes to have our food prepared, so we used the self-service buffet bar at the back of the restaurant and brought our portions to our table. There is so much food here!!! We came here to try the AYCE Brazilian BBQ, but the options and food at the self-serve were already so good (I was already full haha before the meat came. Lesson learned - eat the BBQ before you go to the self serve, except for the sauces). I didn't take pictures of the AYCE BBQ that they come around with because I was trying to finish my plate first, but my personal favorite was their skirt steak. They come around with different cuts on a stick, and they will cut a piece for you if you flip a little sign on the table that you want more food. Definitely worth a try! We got there later in the evening with about 45 minutes to get a round of meat, or so we were told. Ended up getting nothing because not a single waiter was making rounds with meat... So I just ordered a set platter of meats with the salad bar. The meats were not good at all. Some were really salty and others were overcooked they all were tough and clearly either left over pieces from the day or just really bad quality meat. The salad bar was absolutely horrible. The cod looked good but had obviously been sitting there all day along with everything else (at least I hope that was cod). It was so dry and salty you would think it was bacalao. (It wasn't, as it had skin and bones and was in "steak" cuts) They took off the meat platter from our bill and we left very disappointed. The restaurant is actually slightly smaller in real life but still a good size. Note: NO RESERVATIONS!! I would recommend that you come with parties of 4 ppl or less. Large groups will have to wait a much longer time for a table, as most of their seating is set for parties of 2 or 4. My party of 6 arrived at 5:30pm, and waited around an hour for a table; while smaller parties were seated much faster. If you do have a larger group, best come at 5pm or earlier, when they open. Price list: AYCE Adult: $35 (meats, salad bar & hot buffet) AYCE Child: $20 (ditto) AYCE Salad Bar & Hot Buffet only (no meat): $20 ** Time limit for AYCE is 90 minutes** Note that they do have other a la cart items on their menu, if you prefer NOT to have AYCE. (See my photos for their entire menu). Salad Bar and Hot Buffet: although there weren't an enormous amount of selections, there were certainly enough to choose from! Don't fill up here and save some room for the meats! The rice and black beans are a Must! Brazilian Cheese Bread and French Fries (part of AYCE): definitely order the Cheese Bread! They came fresh & hot, and were delicious. Don't let these sit on your table for too long though. They are best eaten hot or warm. The French Fries were fine. (Nothing much to say about it lol). Ok, let's get to it! They've got THE MEATS!! You're given cards that say Yes, Bring the Meats (green card) or No Thanks (red card). This lets the servers know if you want the meats to keep coming! The servers will bring endless skewers of meat to your table until you flip the card to the red side that says No Thanks. Below are all the BBQ Meats that we tried during this visit. The consensus was that most of their meats were overcooked and too salty. They were still good but they would have been outstanding if the meats weren't all well-done. And again, a little less salt would have made a huge difference! We were all guzzling cups of water throughout dinner. The meat was cooked medium-rare, and sliced thin. Perfection! Tasty, tender and just delish! -- Beef Ribs: This was good but again, overcooked and too salty. (You get the theme, right?!) -- Chicken Hearts: well, this was a shocker! We weren't expecting to have chicken hearts! Apparently, this is a Brazilian Specialty! I have to say, these were pretty good. What a nice surprise! -- Lamb: I usually love lamb but again, this was too overcooked and salty. And for some strange reason, this lamb was extra gamey tasting. -- Pork Loin: there was absolutely no pork served all evening (except for the sausage). Where's the pork?!?! I ended up trying one piece of each meat and that was more than enough! No seconds for me! For $35, this was a great deal and an enjoyable meal (despite the meats being overcooked and salty). Again, Rio Bonito has the potential to be OUTSTANDING if they'd just fix those two problems. Customer service and hospitality were wonderful! Besides the hour wait for a table, service was great. Street parking is hit or miss. I was lucky and got a metered spot right across the street! Note that the metered parking is free after 7pm. Recommended! What an excellent local spot! The service and hospitality were amazing. All the staff were extremely nice and helpful since it was our first time visiting. We both went with the $35 all you can eat option which included bbq meats, salad bar and Brazilian cheese bread. There were about 10-12 different cuts of meat (beef, pork, chicken and lamb) offered throughout the meal. Our favorites were the Picanha and the bottom sirloin. Another memorable cut was the lamb which came out towards the end of our meal. The salad bar offered many different hot and cold vegetable options along with delicious hot sauce. There was also lemon salmon, a fried chicken cutlet, bbq ribs (a little dry), rice and beans. The only thing I got photos of were the desserts. Overall between 4 and 5 stars. I can still see remnants of other posts' complaints regarding inconsistencies around seasoning and doneness, but overall it seems like the restaurant has improved a lot in these departments. I only had two cuts through the meal that was over seasoned, and the cuts were never really dry. Two friends and I came after this place went viral on a Saturday at 6p. There was a line of ppl and we were estimated to be seated in 40mins so we went to a Mexican restaurant a couple doors down for a to go margarita and returned in 20mins to hear our name called. We were told we'd have to toss our drinks and we quickly obliged only to enter and be told they did not have a liquor license so all cocktails would be virgin while my freshly made margarita was leaking into a nyc trash bin We were seated and presented with brazilian cheese bread and fries that were both cold, but we came for meat so that wasn't a pressing issue. The meat slowly started coming out and there was no consistency in preparation at all. At one point they came out with a skewer of burnt sausages with 3 less cooked ones, that were visibly much lighter and larger since they weren't burnt, at the bottom. I asked for medium rare pieces of the meat they brought around and one waiter said they didn't have that, while another waiter gave me some pink pieces of the same cut. Some meats were super salty, the others didn't have a bit of salt on them. The skirt steak, lamb, and chicken hearts were my favorites but you can't take my word for it due to the lack of consistency I glanced at the hot/cold buffet and nothing looked appealing so I skipped it. Overall, I wouldn't come back nor recommend. I usually frequent Fogo de Chao which might have clouded my judgment and set too high an expectation, but id rather pay extra for that and enjoy my meal. The original Rio is a Brazilian supermarket across the street and they opened a restaurant across the street to offer AYCE Brazilian BBQ for $35pp. Competitors are chain restaurants like FOGO, and Texas De Brazil who offer the same deal at $60-70pp. Unfortunately, it just didn't live up to the social media hype. - Limited sides buffet that didn't offer much variety and quality wasn't great either. - Limited meat selection going around. - Drinks were on the pricier side (which I understand, have to make up margins on meats somewhere). - Space is too small to facilitate the back and forth of going to the sides buffet. You'll end up spending close to $65 anyway after drinks (alcoholic or non alcoholic), tax, tip. If you're up for Brazilian BBQ, I would probably go there. read more

Was so hungry and so happy to finally try this place that I forgot to take photos of the items I got but oh well will do my best to give a quick run down without visual. Came here after decided to go to another Brazilian restaurant initially, after seeing that the prices were almost the same, decided to come to Rio bonito since this was the much much better deal, 35 dollars for ayce rodizio is unheard of in NYC. Started off with the buffet foods and got some quinoa, meatloaf and pork, the best item from the buffet was the pork as it was tender and packed a lot of flavor in the skin. Next came the meats. Tried the chicken wings, sausages, garlic beef, top sirloin, lamb and the picanha. Sausage was forgetable, chicken wing was pretty good, the other meats were tough and forgetable, but the picanha, which is what people usually go to rodizio, was great here, juicy and done well, I would just get this item exclusively the next time I'm here. What a great addition to Astoria! I read one review here that said the meat was charred, but we had the exact opposite experience! The picana was tender, and the sausages were amazing. The Brazilian rice and beans (plus the salad bar) was delicious (We are a Brazilian household here, so very picky on the beans!) We had to pass on the pork loin and chicken as it came around, as we were stuffed and didn't want to waste the food. But we will definitely be back to try it! For $35.00 a head, (less for kids) this all you can eat buffet and BBQ is well worth the money and the atmosphere was great. If meat isn't your thing, you can also just pay for the salad bar and buffet. Oh, and have a caipirinha, they have an amazing bar! read more

This place is so delicious. Everyone is so nice and funny. The ambiance is great and clean. I loved the food. Milena was our server and she was awesome. My partner and I tried everything and it was all 10/10. The salad to the fries to the cheese bread - all 10/10. The fresh lemonade was the best !! Came here after seeing all these videos from social media influencers. Food wise, all the cuts of meat were either too salty or overcooked. The amount of salt was just too much. And some meats were so overcooked they were dry and tough. As for the buffet, it wasn't bad, but as others mentioned, it is limited. Some of the buffet items were also very salty. While the servers were attentive, we weren't served water and even after we flipped our card for no more meat, the servers kept coming and asking if we wanted more. We found this place through Facebook and decided to try it out. The area was nice and its right across the street from the original grocery store it was started from. Although it's quite small for a churrascaria, it's not bad, this place is good for small groups or couples. The buffet is small but what they served was quite good. Rice and beans, some kind of beef with mushrooms, a yummy shrimp dish and fried fish. The salad bar only had one type of salad, green beans, corn, and cucumbers, but it was enough since you're there for the meat. Even before we sat with our buffet sides, the meat came out, we didn't even turn our card over to yes, very efficient. Sirloin was very good, beef short ribs were on the money, roast beef was a little overcooked, we also tried the chicken heart, chicken wings, pork sirloin and bacon wrapped chicken. Not bad for $35/pp, it was worth the visit. The staff were very friendly and nice. Come early to grab a table, when we left the restaurant was already almost filled up. We will definitely come visit this place again. read more
