    Ruben Sandwich without bread

Walking into this deli, my initial impressions were quite positive. The establishment immediately stands out for being exceptionally clean, well-organized, and inviting. Adding to the positive start, the staff provided good service from the moment I walked up to the counter. They were polite, efficient, and handled the ordering process with a welcoming attitude. Based on the pristine environment and the pleasant customer service, I had high hopes for the food and anticipated a highly satisfying lunch. Unfortunately, the experience took a sharp downhill turn the moment my order arrived. I had ordered a classic Reuben sandwich, a personal favorite that relies on a very specific balance of iconic ingredients. To my absolute surprise, the kitchen took baffling liberties with the recipe. Instead of the traditional, creamy Thousand Island dressing, the sandwich was loaded with standard yellow mustard. To make matters worse, there was barely any sauerkraut on the sandwich, completely robbing it of that essential, tangy crunch. The final blow was the execution of the bread; it was heavily over-toasted, leaving a dominant, slightly burnt taste that overshadowed everything else. The bottom line is simple: structure and tradition matter. When you travel to Paris to see the Mona Lisa, you certainly don't expect to see a mustache painted on her face. This exact same principle applies to a classic Reuben sandwich. There is absolutely no expectation of harsh yellow mustard overpowering the dining experience, nor should a guest have to tolerate the bitter flavor of burnt bread. While the cleanliness and service at this deli are commendable, a sandwich shop ultimately lives and dies by the quality of its food. Given this deeply disappointing culinary execution, I simply cannot recommend this deli to anyone looking for an authentic meal.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Very bright and clean deli.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Indoor seating is available.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They offer a variety of fresh Deli items as well as sandwiches, which are made to order. While I ordered a hot pastrami on a roll the ordering line was growing. I observed a few of the people ordering and it was clear that they were regulars. The staff were very friendly, personable and helpful. My sandwich was stuffed with pastrami. Delicious! Having toasted bread makes all the difference. You won't be disappointed with a sandwich or other deli items from Rims Deli.

I was looking for a sandwich spot that was open early so I can buy my son a sandwich for his lunch. I know, I didn't prepare haha. But so glad I found this Deli close by. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The workers are very nice and the establishment is very clean.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got my son a Jr Size Turkey Swiss sandwich. They were able to customize it. I saw them make it and it looks very good. I love that they have hidden Christian things around. For that, I will be coming back when I'm in the area.

Solid local deli. Very popular for the lunch crowd. Easy parking and lots of tables. I got the pastrami and the egg salad to go. They were pleasant, fast and efficient. The middle rating is really based on the food. These are basic, unseasoned (for the general public), deli classics.

The service was great! The staff was kind and the wait time was fast. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is similar to any classic deli, which is cool to see in Fair Oaks.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered the #2 which is a salami, capicolla, mortadella, and provolone sandwich on a french roll & a fresh brewed iced tea to go with it. The food was good, though it could have used some more flavor; a suggestion I see in a lot of these reviews. HOWEVER there is an option to add sauces/condiments so if you're worried about the flavor-- just add stuff!! It is a little pricey, but the size was decent. I will be here again, and will definitely try out some of their extra toppings.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Nice local deli that was clean n cordial.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Pastrami Sandwich (11") plus cup of Cream of Chicken soup totaled $25. including tax. I suggest eating it immediately to enjoy the hot, flavor, & juiciness of the Pastrami. It's not like NYC kosher Delis but it's the only place to get a good Pastrami "fix" around Fair Oaks/Orangevale.

I have been wanting to try Rim's Deli for YEARS, and finally got the chance this week. Rim's Deli was one of my last stops before leaving Sacramento. I ordered the junior size pastrami sandwich with everything, with swiss instead of havarti, with added cucumbers and peppercinis. The sandwich was amazing, even though I thought the price was a tad high for the portion size. The lady who took my order was helpful and sweet. For some reason, I didn't see the normal hot pastrami sandwich on the menu, even though she said it was one of their most popular orders. I had asked her if I could just get a hot pastrami without it being a reuben. The sandwich came on a sweet French roll, with premium hot pastrami, swiss cheese, and of course, all of the fresh vegetables that I had requested. My only regret is not adding bacon, because I think that would have been bomb. I ordered the junior size, but, as soon as I left, wished I had ordered the large. I'm sure it would have been a better value, and I definitely could have eaten leftovers of this the next day. Since I've heard great things about Rim's Deli from so many people over so many years, I had high expectations for them, and they were met.

Good sandwiches but extremely over priced. You're better off driving down the road to Good Eats Deli. Better sandwiches for better price.

This specific Sandwich Spot location was one of my original favorite sandwich shops of all time…read more My friend Ashley and I used to always come here and split a Cougar on Dutch Crunch, sub pastrami for turkey. Feeling nostalgic, I recently decided to have lunch here. I asked for a Cougar with pastrami instead of turkey. "You want a number 26?" (Looks at menu) "Yes, with pastrami instead of turkey." "Number 26, right?" When I had walked in, I saw two girls cleaning. One of them had stopped to take my order. After taking my order, she continued to clean for exactly ten minutes before stopping, washing her hands, and beginning to prepare my sandwich. (I'm positive that it was exactly ten minutes before she even *started* to make my sandwich, because I get a text message the minute my card is charged, so it's easy to just look at the text, and see how much time has elapsed.) As she finished making my sandwich, another guest came in. After she placed her order, the second girl washed her hands, and both girls made her sandwich together. While I had waited nearly fifteen minutes for my sandwich, this girl waited for less than two. It was so odd. As I ate my sandwich, both girls behind the counter stared at me so hard that I seriously wondered if they had done something funky to my sandwich. So, all of that was very strange. But the sandwich was good. None of the ingredients were missing. The veggies were all in ridiculously tiny quantities in comparison to the super smearing of sauce, but, it was all there, and it tasted good. When it comes to sandwiches, in terms of the meat, you get what you pay for. Sandwich Spot uses cheaper meat than some fancier delis do, but they also use a larger quantity of it. So, if you would rather have a large amount of okay pastrami versus a medium amount of great pastrami, then, Sandwich Spot is the spot for you. If you're really into premium lunch meat, though, this isn't it. The pastrami tasted like it could have come from the fridge section at Winco or Walmart. Overall, for a cheaper/lower-end sandwich place, Sandwich Spot is still one of my favorites. I love their menu, and haven't found a sandwich quite like the Cougar anywhere else.

I hadn't been here in nearly 10 years and was looking forward to a nostalgic lunch, but…read moreunfortunately, this visit was a major letdown. I ordered the Barracuda, and my wife got the General Lee. Both sandwiches were served on Dutch crunch rolls that were so hard, they were nearly inedible -- my wife couldn't even finish hers because the bread hurt her mouth. Mine left the roof of my mouth sore, but I pushed through since it wasn't exactly a cheap meal. The fillings didn't help either -- the meat tasted like it had been sitting for a while especially the roast beef, and the vegetables were wilted and lifeless. The macaroni salad tasted identical to the store-bought Reser's brand, with that unmistakable aftertaste, which was disappointing. Overall, nothing felt fresh. Everything had the vibe of being prepped a day or two ago and just left to sit. I truly wish we had just gone to the grocery store instead. Sadly, this place didn't live up to the memories, and I won't be returning. Lesson learned.

The service was great and I love the decor. I ordered my sandwiches to go, but I could see myself watching a game at the chill beach-themed bar. I loved the turkey sandwich and the pastrami sandwich and the Caprese sandwich was tasty too but since it doesn't have as many ingredients as the others, it didn't stand out as much. I'm not a musical softie - but it was so loud it was vibrating his speakers and almost squealing. The inside space is small and it does not need to be that loud. It was so loud I could not hear the people sitting at my table with me & my watch alerted me to a "loud environment" that could damage my hearing. Asked him to turn it down a bit, as I had my niece who had sensitive hearing and he told me it was "as low as he could make it", but every song vibrated in the restaurant. Would have eaten outside to decrease the sound a little bit, but it was 100°+ outside. Very disappointed. Won't be back on a Thursday night. If you go in Thursday night, beware.

As someone who is bipolar and been homeless before, I always pass along my leftovers to one of the homeless that hangs out in the park. I came up to him today with a cup of tea, and he asked if I could get him a cup of coffee. He requested milk and sugar. I didn't want to touch the cup he was holding so I said okay. The girl at the register was happy to give me an extra cup for milk and sugar. I filled it and was cornered when I was exiting. She was fuming, flustered saying that refills aren't free. How dare I take free refills from the shop before. I apologetically expressed I can pay for a second cup of coffee. She didn't back down. She verbally berated me in front of EVERYONE and it was an awful experience. I've been homeless myself but I've never looked it. This is unacceptable behavior and very ableist.
