POCKET DELI!!! WALK NEXT DOOR ALSO!!!

Big Al's pocket and large chili
Jonathan A.

I finally got the chance to try them out the other day while ordering some items for takeout to bring to Burning Barrel Brewing next door. I ordered a large chili and their Big Al's pocket which included pastrami, turkey, bacon, lettuce, onions, brown mustard and provolone but I substituted the cheese with pepper jack and added bell peppers. The food was good although for the price point I felt like it was a little higher compared to somewhere like Corti Bros. I personally wasn't blown away but nothing was bad. They also blamed the bread being too small as the reason I couldn't add any additional veggies which I thought was a little odd but understood since they use pita bread pockets which can't fit as much as a traditional bread roll. My total after tax was like 23 bucks for the chili and sandwich. The service was fast and mostly friendly though with a lunch rush crowd type of ambiance. If they lowered the prices a little, I might have felt more inclined to leave 4 stars. I also said "finally" earlier to try them because I'm rarely ever in the area on weekdays so they're usually closed whenever I'm nearby on weeknights and weekends because they're only open from 9 to 4 Monday through Friday. Overall, I'd probably try them again if I'm ever in the area when they're actually open. Their menu did seem diverse with regards to pocket sandwich fillings and side dishes. I think I was just expecting more judging by the prices compared to other sandwich spots that have bigger options for around the same price or even less.

We went here on a whim and man was that one of our better decisions! We had an amazing lunch and the peanut butter cookie did not disappoint! I ordered the tri tip sandwich, I did and horseradish to it and with the horseradish it was a solid 9/10 it was very good! Cheesy and delicious, the bred was grilled it was very good. No veggies on it, but some bell peppers and onions might have sent it over the moon lol! They may have that already in a different sandwich that will be for me to check next time! The host said the peanut butter cookies were amazing and she wasn't lying! 10/10 would recommend they were ridiculously soft and soooo tasty! I'm sitting over here trying to figure out if I want the recipe or if I'd become a diabetic from eating them daily! If you're looking for a sandwich place that makes things just a little different this is your one stop shop. Great experience!

I fail as a resident of Rancho Cordova, cause it's only today that I tried Pocket Deli. I've seen it as I drive down Sunrise, and of course when I go to Burning Barrel. I'm not usually one for sandwiches, but a few Fridays ago the owner walked over to Burning Barrel and started handing out free bread. Generous and smart marketing. I tried it at home... soft, fresh, and perfect for the garlic bread I used it for. I'm really happy I tried it. I will be back. First impressions was the size of the space. High sealings, massive kitchen area where you see the workers husltin' getting the orders out, plenty of tables and high tops. I came during lunch rush which was a great vibe tbh. It seemed like a popular local spot with lots of repeat customers. I ordered the Hot Connor Panini Sando - bacon, chicken, jalapeno and cream cheese. It was packed with flavor, and the protein to bread ratio was just perfect. I should've added veggies. I'll consider that next time. I liked the condiments bar where you can pick up peppers, pickles, sauces, etc. Self serve option is great. If there is only one small gripe I have which is the price - no drinks or chips, my sando was $16. That said, it kept me full and satisfied. I'll definitely be back to try their cold sandos and maybe a salad. Honestly, I'm already drooling just thinking about it.

Still a gem!! These sandwiches are huge and packed to the brim. They have a great selection of sandwiches. Pocket Deli is officially in the rotation as a regular spot!

This place has been a lunch spot to hit for decades. I frequented their old dive location before the built the new location. The food hasn't changed and it's amazing as always. Y favorite is the hot pastrami with fresh tomatoes and onions and a sprinkle of oregano. The meat is so flavorful but the best part is the chewy pocket bread fresh baked daily. I have never found anything close. Very clean restaurant, family owned charm, great staff. Highly recommend.

Ambiance: It's very comfortable and there are TVs to catch that game. Service: The staff seem friendly enough; nothing that sets them apart from other restaurants. Food: I tried the Tri-tip sandwhich. The bread is awesome and the reason they call it the Pocket Deli. The Tri-tip was more like roast beef thinly sliced. Not what I think of when I think of a tri-tip sandwich. Just so so.

Took a few bites but this is a pocket full of Buffalo chicken and tons of lettuce. Buffalo Chicken Ranch Pocket

Hidden in a parking lot this place is very delicious. The service was quick and pleasant. They had plenty of tables to sit and enjoy. If I'm in the area I would return.

Big place.

I liked it. Parking is a bit tight during lunch but the parking lot extends around the back and there's usually a spot there if it's full upfront. Bigger place inside than I thought. From the parking lot, you enter in the front lefthand corner. Large menu and temping chip bags as you wait in line to place your order. I tried the tri-tip pocket panini. I added some lettuce to try to be a little healthy. The pocket pita bread and huge! Very good sized pocket with a decent amount of meat. I liked the flavor but think I will try something different next time. There's one tall table at the end so I sat there to look at everyone else's food choice. Does look like you can eat here many times a week and not get tired. Will definitely try it when I'm back in the area. Fountain drink dispenser so you can choose what you want, other non-carbonated choices as well. Worth a shot and...enjoy!!!

This place is awesome! We forgot my wife couldn't eat turkey (pregnant) and they re made her sandwich. Awesome people

Tri tip and chicken BBQ Chicken Ranch Pocket

First visit. When we walked in, the staff didn't seem particularly welcoming--no smiles or greetings, which made for a slightly awkward start. Maybe it was just an off day. I asked if the tri-tip sandwich was good, and the response was just, "Yeah, it's popular," so I gave it a shot. It wasn't cheap, so I was hoping it'd be great, but it ended up being just okay. The bread had a nice toasty crunch, which we both really liked. The A1-style sauce on the tri-tip wasn't for me--pretty acidic--and the cheese felt like a basic slice, not very flavorful. The tri-tip itself was sliced very thin, more like deli meat than traditional BBQ. My wife had the chicken ranch BBQ sandwich, which was actually really good--definitely the better of the two. We'll probably come back and try the build-your-own option next time. Overall: 7/10. Some hits and misses, but enough potential to give it another shot.

I remember going to this place when it was down the street from where it is now. The parking is horrible now. It has very few spots which is really bad. I parked by Taco bell. The place is clean and new looking. I am not sure how long they have had the new location. It is a good size for a sandwich shop. The unique thing is their bread. It is so soft and fresh. I really like it. I got the hot pastrami and it was really good. A nice place to eat. It was around 12 bucks.

Where can I find the nutrition information for their sandwiches? I looked on the website but could not locate.

But when I received it the meat was room temperature and so was the bread. I was praying I didn't get a stomach ache because the meat was probably left out for a bit if it was room temperature. It had a nice crisp to it. The bread was alright. But if you look at the picture there was barely any meat . When they put the pickled carrots and daikon in they got the extra pickled juice in my sandwich. You can see it's kind of watery. The sandwich is price wasn't too bad. But I had better sandwiches. This specific Sandwich Spot location was one of my original favorite sandwich shops of all time…read more My friend Ashley and I used to always come here and split a Cougar on Dutch Crunch, sub pastrami for turkey. Feeling nostalgic, I recently decided to have lunch here. I asked for a Cougar with pastrami instead of turkey. "You want a number 26?" (Looks at menu) "Yes, with pastrami instead of turkey." "Number 26, right?" When I had walked in, I saw two girls cleaning. One of them had stopped to take my order. After taking my order, she continued to clean for exactly ten minutes before stopping, washing her hands, and beginning to prepare my sandwich. (I'm positive that it was exactly ten minutes before she even *started* to make my sandwich, because I get a text message the minute my card is charged, so it's easy to just look at the text, and see how much time has elapsed.) As she finished making my sandwich, another guest came in. After she placed her order, the second girl washed her hands, and both girls made her sandwich together. While I had waited nearly fifteen minutes for my sandwich, this girl waited for less than two. It was so odd. As I ate my sandwich, both girls behind the counter stared at me so hard that I seriously wondered if they had done something funky to my sandwich. So, all of that was very strange. But the sandwich was good. None of the ingredients were missing. The veggies were all in ridiculously tiny quantities in comparison to the super smearing of sauce, but, it was all there, and it tasted good. When it comes to sandwiches, in terms of the meat, you get what you pay for. Sandwich Spot uses cheaper meat than some fancier delis do, but they also use a larger quantity of it. So, if you would rather have a large amount of okay pastrami versus a medium amount of great pastrami, then, Sandwich Spot is the spot for you. If you're really into premium lunch meat, though, this isn't it. The pastrami tasted like it could have come from the fridge section at Winco or Walmart. Overall, for a cheaper/lower-end sandwich place, Sandwich Spot is still one of my favorites. I love their menu, and haven't found a sandwich quite like the Cougar anywhere else.

I hadn't been here in nearly 10 years and was looking forward to a nostalgic lunch, but…read moreunfortunately, this visit was a major letdown. I ordered the Barracuda, and my wife got the General Lee. Both sandwiches were served on Dutch crunch rolls that were so hard, they were nearly inedible -- my wife couldn't even finish hers because the bread hurt her mouth. Mine left the roof of my mouth sore, but I pushed through since it wasn't exactly a cheap meal. The fillings didn't help either -- the meat tasted like it had been sitting for a while especially the roast beef, and the vegetables were wilted and lifeless. The macaroni salad tasted identical to the store-bought Reser's brand, with that unmistakable aftertaste, which was disappointing. Overall, nothing felt fresh. Everything had the vibe of being prepped a day or two ago and just left to sit. I truly wish we had just gone to the grocery store instead. Sadly, this place didn't live up to the memories, and I won't be returning. Lesson learned.
