If you live in the area and you haven't stopped by Rileys, I would highly suggest it. I have lived a couple blocks away for months now but for some reason never felt drawn to Rileys. I think it is the green awning that scared me. Anyways, I finally decided to check it out last night to watch some baseball and I was very pleasantly surprised. The bartender (Ashley) was very friendly, the beer selection is great for a divish bar, and the pizza is some of the best St. Louis pizza I have ever tried. Maybe I came here on an off night, but Riley's is just OK to me. First off, it is in a great neighborhood and the bar itself is old and historic (which I love) but it's also kind of dank and dark inside. And smoky. So smoky, in fact, that I was only able to stick around for a beer. Riley's was a refuge last week from the heat at The Shaved Duck. Enjoyed a lovely prix fixe dinner there, but they have no A/C! As much as I enjoyed the meal, our group agreed that we must go somewhere else to escape the heat. And Riley's is just around the corner, so it seemed like the perfect (and colder!) solution. On Wednesday nights, Riley's offers $10 pitchers of lager. And there was an Irish band setting up as we were ordering our drinks. It was a huge group, too. At least 7-8 players, which was cool. They had just gotten started when I realized that I was still hot, tired, full and not loving the smoky atmosphere. I would be happy to return to Riley's if it wasn't so smoky or if I hadn't just gorged on a 3-course meaty meal. It's just not my favorite place, but I wouldn't throw a hissy fit if someone suggested going back. read more

Hmm. Where to start. Let's start with the jukebox, because it can serve as a window for what kind of place this. It's old school. Make a selection and you see it spin your pick to the player, feed it, and then hear it play, all with satisfying, 20th century geary noises. Since this is not an internet jb, it's got the feel of somebody's private collection. I suspect it's the staff's. Since it's discs, it's albums, and sometimes obscure ones. You'll have to roll the dice when you see a band you know but not the song you want. Roll them. It'll be ok. If you can't put a fiver in and spend it out, maybe need to find a bar that more closely matches your taste. Watch the traffic run the stop sign on Arsenal from their new outdoor patio, or throw some darts (steel tip), or order st. louis style pizza (half price on mon & tues). this is a fine neighborhood pub; you'd be lucky to live near it, and fortunately I do. read more

This is one of the most attractive pubs in South City. There's lots of marble surfaces and the booths are lined with old pocket doors. It's got a robust aura about it. The bar has a good beer selection, and is one of the few places in St. Louis where I feel comfortable ordering a Guinness, and enjoy it with a moderately-sized group of friends. There's cheap eats, too, with one-topping pizzas going for $4 on some nights. That, with a few beers makes it a great setting for a good dart game. Riley's has two real dart boards. However, I suggest bringing your own darts. But then again I suggest that for any place that has a dart board. Although I haven't heard any live music at Riley's (there are live acts now and then) there's a respectable jukebox filled with great oldies. To me, it's just one of those places where I can enjoy a nice conversation with some friends. There's no pretensions with Riley's Pub. Just good times. read more

This has great potential to become our go-to neighborhood bar, but unfortunately, there's no pool table. The first time we tried it out we had a large group, so we sat on what looked like the dining side of Riley's. It was a good spot for our group, but there was no server, so we had to shimmy out of the booth each time we needed another drink. Their pizzas are half off on Monday and Tuesday, which is our motivation to make another trip over to Riley's soon. It seems like a laid back bar with a regular clientele. read more

A fine and well-kept secret. A block off of the South Grand strip, it has an intimate feel, a great selection of beers and whiskeys, and a fantastic jukebox that is definitely worth a look-see. I miss the tap-dancing piano player that used to be there every Friday, but go Monday or Tuesday for half price St. Louis style pizza- it alone is worth the trip. read more

I have been searching for a great hole in the wall Irish pub in St. Louis. Riley's certainly fits the bill. As soon as you walk in ye atmosphere overtakes, you feel as though you could sit at a booth and get lost for hours in good conversation with friends. The bartender was pleasant and welcoming, and most importantly, knew how to pour a proper Guinness. Didn't try the food yet, but certianly plan to. I highly recommend Riley's pub. read more

Stopped in on a whim for some takeout on a Saturday night and was pleasantly welcomed. As a new gal to St Louis, it was great to find a place close to where I live that serves really great pints & pizza! As an added bonus the bartender was super friendly. It's one of the first places I've been by myself that I didn't feel awkward being there alone and will definitely be stopping back in soon! ....my experience with St Louis-style pizza is fairly limited, but this place has, by far, been the best. I ordered a pizza with all kinds of veggies and they were sliced thinly enough and the pizza cooked long enough that they were roasted not just sitting on top half raw. I guess I didn't know about St Louis Pizza at all but it is superthincrusted and has a blend of mozz, provolone, and american, which I have found is the perfect blend for me. I went to this place based on the Yelp reviews, and I was not disappointed in the least. The people were friendly, the bartender was cute, the assholes were put in their place, and not a great deal of money was spent. It had a great decor, traditional St. Louis (AB memorabilia) mixed in Irish/Gaelic. Of note was that while they have a wide selection of beers and liquors, they do not carry any AB products on tap - incredible for St. Louis. We got there a little later, but it looked like they have a great deal on StL style pizza if you come earlier in the night. Only downside to this place is that they are a 1AM bar, so you have to find another place to keep your night going. read more

We didn't order food, however, any bar that sells Smithwick's on draft for $3 on a Saturday night...I'm a fan! Our friends ordered a pizza to go so we might have to try that next time, considering that's the only food they offer. Hard to go above a 3 Star when a place doesn't have more than 1 menu item. Rileys Pub is up the road from me...walking distance. I think it's a great place to hang. Local pub, cheap, good St. Louis style pizza. I like the atmosphere and like that is on the corner so you can see everything when you sit outside. All around a good place. I find it to be way better than Tick Tock Tavern down the road. I've never had a bad experience here. Bartenders are friendly, daily specials, and live Irish music on Wednesdays. The pizza is great- regardless if you're paying full or half price. My husband and I are visiting St. Louis and found ourselves looking for a local place to grab a bite. He found Riley's on Yelp and based on reviews we decided to try it. The bartender doubled as the waitress and told us to sit where ever and there was another area for seating but was quick to let us know she was the only one working. We order drinks and she tells us they only offer pizza and nothing else. Starving but not deterred, we order a pizza. 15 min pass...20 minutes pass and no pizza. If you are wondering where your food is then MAYBE it has been a little too long. The bartender tells my husband it will be about 15 minutes. WHAT?!?! So it takes 35 minutes to make a basic pizza? My husband asked for a manager and was directed to a man at the end of the bar that I had just seen taking a shot with guests only 5 minutes before. Talking to him was a complete waste of time since my husband noticed he was already intoxicated. We definitely stood out as not being local or a "regular" and the service reflected that. A cozy neighborhood pub with some decorating nods to Ireland, average priced pints, and rather disappointingly serving St. Louis style pizza. They have a half priced special on pizza early in the week and having heard people raving about the place I stopped in to try it out. It was served by an amiable and relaxed staff and the price was right, around five bucks for a large pizza. I knew it was St. Louis style, which I don't think of as real pizza, more like an open face toasted cheese, but with the enthusiastic mentions there seemed a chance that they were making it from scratch or something. The reality was, I didn't think it was possible to have a St. Louis style pizza that fell below Imo's flavor standards, but Riley's has succeeded there. The crust was totally factory issue St. Louis cardboard, the cheese common Provel or worse it's hard to be sure where its flavors come from, and the core of mediocrity the tomato sauce, which seemed to have flavors straight out of chef Boyardee's cans of ravioli, as much corn syrup as tomato and with an off meat-ish flavor. I was glad I hadn't payed any more than five bucks for it. If you like to eat cheap things when you're drunk and you don't much care what they taste like this is your new pizza place, otherwise there are other pizza places and bars with better food only a couple of blocks away. Maybe St. Louis style pizza actually is similar to the average pizza that's in Ireland, but I hope not. Riley's could easily improve their recipe or serve more Irish style cheap snacks. read more

Riley's is a small, dark amazing place. Old historic building. It's one of those places I can't really put my finger on what it is that really does it for me. But Riley's really does it for me. Every night they have a different beer special, and that puts good beer at a good price. The darts are steel-tip, and free. Keno's got good games, and is situated in a back corner allowing you, and the person you're playing with some privacy. Staff's friendly, and knowlegable. The only thing I am not crazy about is the fact that the only food item they have is pizza. Thin crust pizza in different sizes, and with different toppings, but that's it. Nothing else. not even fries. However the pizza is good, and you can tell the ingredients are fresh. One of my favorite bars in St. Louis. read more

If you are looking for good place to sit and drink in the old fashioned corner bar style this is your place. I am not huge fan of the pizza, but I do not go to bars to eat as I do not go to Dominos to get drunk. Bill the owner is a good guy and one of the bartenders writes for the paper and always has something interesting to say. Its good place to have a beer and chat with friends. My wife and I travel pretty extensively and we enjoy checking out local spots.... I can honestly say that we had a horrible experience here. When we arrived at the establishment, we were greeted by the bartender that had her bitch face firmly planted on... It is pretty easy to tell that we are not locals and were treated like we were lepers...I had to come up to the bar to get another beer. We ordered our pizza around 7:00...waited at least for 30 minutes for it to arrive.... I got up again, went to the bar to inquire with the bartender how much longer it would be before our pizza was done....that's when the shit hit the fan. I was told that it would be about another 15 minutes. I realize that on a Friday night things can be a bit slower if they were busy... They were not busy. I asked the bartender when she put the order in.... A long pause and then she sheepishly said that she didn't know when she put the ticket in. Not cool....I asked to speak to the manager...she brought me to a slightly inebriated man that slurred his words.... By then I was done. Paid for our drinks and left. read more

I love this place. It's in a great neighborhood and a great building, a real neighborhood corner bar. The St. Louis style pizza is amazing! Nothing fancy, but for those who like St. Louis style pizza, it is some of the best in the city. Saying all that, I haven't been here in over a year because of the cigarette and cigar smoke. It's truly ridiculous and it's why I just can't give it more than three stars. My friends and I used to meet here once a week on $5 pizza night (which I believe is Mondays and Tuesdays) and I would have to wear my easy to wash old clothes and shower as soon as I got home, and spend the rest of the night coughing. It's just not acceptable to me to support places like that any longer. If they had outdoor seating on the sidewalk I would probably frequent Riley's more often but they don't. So now I'll occasionally get a pizza to go and spend as little time as possible inhaling second hand smoke. read more
