I got the Thursday lunch special which was a double smash burger with American cheese topped with pulled pork and bbq sauce and a side of sweet potato fries. The smash burgers with the pulled pork was delicious. The pulled pork needs to be chopped a lot more so you can get pieces of the smash burger and pulled pork in each bite. This was a hopping place on a Friday night!! They shoved 8 Adults and 2 kids in a little alcove at the bar so Thank God we like each other!!! The food was ok.... Went to Helen Fitzgeralds and ate on the patio the service was a little slow about 20 minutes to get our drink order at first but after that it was consistent. I had the shrimp special and my wife got the roast beef sandwich with beer cheese sauce on the side. My shrimp was perfect fried crispy and tender on the inside. My wife's roast beef was delicious and the cheese sauce very flavorful. We also both had side salads with our entrées the greens order perfect lots of tomato and cheese very tasty. Helen Fitzgerald's is a large restaurant and has a large bar area. They had it decorated beautifully for Christmas and I really enjoyed the festive trees. Our experience was good, but not perfect. There was apparently a banquet going on in a private room so our service was very slow. We got the Pot O Gold to share which came with Syberg's wings, t-ravs, sygoons, potato skins, and pretzel bites. They were all delicious. My favorite were the sygoons and wings. My husband liked the t-ravs and he doesn't even usually like pretzels but he enjoyed the pretzel bites. I got the potato soup and it was hot and yummy. My husband had the buffalo chicken pizza with the new NootBaar Sauce. He liked it, but sadly it came to the table cold. Overall, we had a great experience and enjoyed it. read more

The chicken strip salad is one of my solid stl spots for the same meal over and over. I always get the chicken strip salad and it hits every time. I usually do grilled chicken but if I'm feeling it I'll order it with the crispy. Their wing sauce is one of my favorite sauces ever and I often have a bottle in the fridge at home. I also got a side order of fries this visit which obviously added to the delicious experience. It's simple and delicious bar food, what isn't to like :) server was super attentive and helpful. Enjoyed a holiday party here and this place was so packed! The parking isn't the greatest and I parked next door in the parking lot like many other people I seen walking to the restaurant. Although it was busy, it wasn't crowded moving around. We had a great "room" and a table for 8. Our server was attentive, kind and provided great service. Everyone ordered their own meal of choice. Our server, WIllima was great, attentive, and friendly. The food came out in the correct order (why is this a problem so often now at many restaurants like getting your salad ten minutes after the main course is served). The food was good and so were the potions. I had the fish and chips, which was a little different than other places make it, more like the size of an eggroll with thick fish and crisp outer batter. I asked for a substitute for the coleslaw which I don't care for and despite not normally doing that they gave me a bowl of fruit as a replacement. We sat down and were immediately greeted with a big smile by our server, Madi Cherry. She was absolutely adorable, even her name is cute! The service was flawless: attentive without being overbearing, friendly without being fake, and fast without sacrificing quality. My drink never got half empty. She was on it! Top notch! Now, let's talk about the salad. Fresh doesn't even begin to describe it. Every ingredient was vibrant and full of flavor--crisp greens, homemade croutons ( omg so good!!! ), that delicious St. Louis cheese, and just the right amount of red onion. The ranch was like nothing I've ever had before. This salad was simple but bursting with flavor. The balance of textures and flavors was masterful. You could taste the freshness in every bite, and the portion size was generous without being overwhelming. I honestly didn't know a salad could be this satisfying. Pair all that with top-tier service and a relaxing atmosphere, and this quickly became one of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time. I'll admit that coming at a popular place like Helen's on the last Saturday before Christmas is. Gamble. However, I've never been spoken to by waitstaff the way I was tonight. My friends three blonds stood at the bar (just in front of the door) for a whole set waiting to be acknowledge. The bartender a white man blond with a matching beard in a red shirt and jeans about 5'7'' said absolutely nothing to them. So I stood with them and waited. When I was not acknowledge. I leaned over the bar waving my hand. I expected a "I'll be with you" or a "give me minute". Instead this man this bartender looked me in the face and yelled "Shut the Fuck up". I get he was busy and I understand why he did it. But it's not something I expected from staff. Helen Fitzgerald's is a favorite in the St. Louis community, I was here with a group of seven for a work dinner and was able to get all seven of us seated comfortably without a reservation for appetizers. We had a large pepperoni pizza and toasted ravioli, and my entrée was a steak with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. The food was delicious and the cocktails were great. The warm lighting and soft music makes this a great place for friends and coworkers to have a nice dinner, the other side of the building is more the sports bar area with high top tables and plenty of TVs to watch all sports events. Oh. My. Goodness. I've heard about this place for so long, but never really been in the area to stop and try it out. From outside the place looked big, but wow! When you walk in it's HUGE. They have a dining side in the left and a large bar side on the right. I cane with my daughter so we were seated in the dining area. The food menu was great and the children's menu was $5.99 with an entree, side dish, drink and an ice cream sundae. I ordered the fish and chips and was very happy with my decision. I have been coming to Helen's for YEARS! This is a great happy hour spot and night out spot! Happy hour - many apps for $5 and they are all tasty! Toasted raviolis, sliders, pizzas, etc. Drinks are also discounted and a good price. They have a good selection of items on their regular menu to choose from as well. They use Syberg's signature sauces on wings and thangs.. which I don't care about because I don't prefer it - but if you like that sauce you can get it here. Their fries are also crispy and delicious! I've had chocolate martinis and white russians here and they were always made well. Night out - they have a restaurant side, private rooms and a bar side. The bar side frequently has amazing live bands and it is a vibe! Our family has also used the banquet rooms on a few occasions and it's always been a great experience. The events were catered and staff was available for drinks, etc. If you need a room for an event, Helen's is a great option. read more

I was at Helen's this evening with a group of 20 on the dinning room side. This experience was one of worst I've ever had in a restaurant. The service was poor, drinks were empty most of the night. The food was the worst part! Everyone's fried food items tasted like a bonfire/fish, as if the oil hadn't been changed in weeks and a fish fry happened not long ago. The pizza I had was completely soggy. The kids side of fruit was rock hard. Through the whole night we never had a manager come over and ask us how our meal was. It is evident that Helen's cares more about the bar side than dining room side. On my way out of the restaurant I walked through a set of double doors and was hit in the face with what smelt like Ozium, I was gagging all the way to my vehicle. read more

We had a birthday celebration with about 50 people. They were able to set aside a few tables for us on the bar and stage side with advanced notice. KAYLA IS THE BEST SERVER! Really excellent. There was a decent band playing. It would have been nice to hear their music, but instead we heard extremely loud mud. CHARLES the sound person seemed unaware that there were guitars and singers in the band. We see this a lot around St. Louis. A club finds a guy who knows how to use an iPad and decide he's the sound engineer. Charles seems to think that you just need to turn it up louder and not worry about hearing the singers or any higher frequencies. It's too bad because these performers work hard to put together a show, only to have it ruined by one guy who apparently doesn't listen to or understand music. read more

However, on Thursdays, they have their happy hour specials all day. Apps, Flatbread, and drink specials all day. But, by 7, it's packed because they have sports, trivia, games, etc. I also just had a 50th birthday party there and was able to reserve tables off to the side so we could have a semi private event. Went on a Sunday evening because my husband was interested in the fried chicken special. We were seated immediately, though they were pretty busy. A ton of takeout business was happening as well. Hubby said the fried chicken was everything he'd hoped for, remarked that it reminded him of King Edward's which is a pretty high bar! I had the Syberg's salad, the chicken was a bit over cooked (the tenders were dark from the heavy fry) and I had to request additional Syberg's sauce as they had very little on them, unlike when ordering the same at a straight up Syberg's restaurant). With that addition it was s tasty salad that left me with plenty for lunch the next day. My son had the tenders appetizer and again the chicken was fried hard, therefore he didn't enjoy it much. However, it made a hearty late night snack for his dad plus our waitress was great and the service so quick and friendly it was a good experience. read more

Whoever the bouncer was for the inside bar was an absolute asshole. I had a reservation with my family at 7:00pm and accidentally walked into the wrong door not knowing that we would get our ids checked. I explained to him that we had a reservation in the restaurant and was meeting my parents there and he was no help at all. He kept saying that you had to be 21 to be in there and trying to kick us out instead of politely explaining to us that we were in the wrong side of the restaurant. My mother had to walk over and get us and I apologized to him for the trouble and all he said was, "yeah you should be sorry." Unfortunately, It was an Extremely rude experience and left a bad impression on a normally great place for my friends from out of town. Had 5 people out for dinner including myself tonight. I have not been to Helen Fitzgerald in about a year. Very disappointed with quality of food. I had chicken tenders dinner that was overcooked and so tough I could not even eat them. Our waitress, Olivia, was very good. She replaced my meal and comp by dinner. The second try with the tenders was better, but not as good as remember. My wife's chicken tender salad was the same. She just removed the tenders from salad and ate the lettuce. My daughter in laws Shepard pie was dry and not very good. My son's fish sandwich was just OK as was my grandson's chicken sandwich. I will not be recommending Helen Fitzgerald South County to anyone soon. read more
