French Toast - $10.25
Harold S.

This unassuming little highway diner turned out to be a wonderful find. I stopped in here on a Sunday morning while on a road trip through the desert. There were quite a few people there but I was still able to get immediate seating. I ordered the french toast which goes for $10.25 and thought it was some of the best I've ever had. I looked around and it looked like everything other people were having also looked very tempting. The service was friendly and attentive. I would definitely go back here again if in the area. I highly recommend.

Bean, rice & vegetable fajitas burrito

Drove back from Cal City and couldn't find anything my bf (who has tons of allergies and isn't vegan) and I (vegan with no allergies) could eat before we got here. I was prepared to build a meal of sides. The hashbrowns are made with oil and the beans aren't made using lard. No animal broth in the rice. Asked the waitress if I could get a bean & rice burrito with some fajita veggies made vegan. Also asked for a side of salsa. She was so patient answering my questions (she got tooooo much cardio running back to the kitchen bc of me, I feel so bad ) but the result was delicious, filling and beautiful. And so fairly priced! Bf and I left full and happy. So much nicer than visiting any chain or strictly takeout place. Didn't love that the tv was playing Fox News, though I did like that they had music playing and Fox News on mute. The staff were very nice. Very clean restrooms. Love the huge mirror in the women's room! (Tip: it's not at the sink; it's outside the stalls.) Appreciated that they had cash and non-cash pricing. Only wish they had more extensive hours! The world would benefit from their product and service.

Breakfast with our Las Vegas son, Toby & he loves this restaurant & friendly people too!

Food is good but biscuits and gravy were cold and the hash browns were a little burnt.

We were one of two tables in the entire place, which made it extra quiet but also kind of fun. The walls are covered with cool aviation photos and relics, and the best part is that it sits right next to a runway. Watching planes taxi and cruise by while you eat is genuinely entertaining and easily the highlight of the visit. The food, unfortunately, did not live up to the setting. I had the chicken tenders and my girlfriend ordered the soup, and both were fine but very forgettable. Nothing bad, just nothing that would make you detour for it. Service was friendly, though a bit slow considering how empty the restaurant was. Worth a stop if you are into planes or need a break from the drive, but I would come for the view and the novelty more than the food.

Tuesday, March 10th, we traveled to Bakersfield to pick up a vehicle I had purchased, and of course had to stop by Kohnen's. My wife and I split a Tuna and Cheddar Panini, and a loaded Turkey (we arrived too late for Sourdough!!). It is difficult to walk away without a mini-pie (try them all, but blackberry is freaking amazing!!). As always, Danelle was there with her typical congeniality and work ethic! We love her!! And I got to tell her about her doppelgänger in a restaurant in Yucaipa!! They do exist!! In summary, eat at Kohnen's!! Say hi to Danelle!

I visited Kohnen's Bakery Tehachapi yesterday with my family, and this was honestly one of the…read moreworst customer service experiences I've ever had. I only purchased two items -- one cream puff and one slice of cheesecake -- but the cashier charged my card THREE times due to repeated mistakes. Here's exactly what happened: 1) My first card (Card A) was charged $11.20. The cashier asked me if I wanted a receipt, and I said yes. Then she told me the receipt didn't come out because the transaction "didn't go through," and asked me to provide my card again. 2) I gave the same card again, and this time she charged $11.69. 3) Then again, she told me that it didn't go through, so I used a different debit card (Card B), which was charged $11.20. While sitting at the table with my family, I immediately checked my bank account and thought I had only been charged twice. I spoke to a staff member at the store and requested a refund for one of the $11.20 charges, which was processed. However, today I realized I had actually been charged three times, meaning there was still another $11.20 that needed to be refunded. So I called the bakery and asked to speak with a manager. I spoke with someone named Danielle. I calmly explained the entire situation and told her I would send all my receipts and bank transaction records by email so they could double-check and confirm everything. She said ok and gave me their email address, but it was very long, and I was concerned about making a mistake while writing it down. So I politely asked if she could text me the email address instead. Her response was extremely rude -- she said, "I'm not required to do that," and told me to just write it down myself if I had a pen and paper. Although I was already uncomfortable with her attitude, I carefully wrote it down and sent the email. However, the email bounced back as invalid, even though I had confirmed the spelling with her multiple times over the phone. When I called again, Danielle answered and said, "Ma'am," in a very dismissive tone, and told me that they had found the three charges and had already processed refunds for both $11.20 transactions. I tried to confirm which card the refund was going to, since I used two different cards, but after putting me on hold for a long time, she read off a card number that was not mine. When I told her that wasn't my card, she insisted those were the only transactions for $11.20 yesterday and told me to "check my bank in a few days" and call back if the refund doesn't show up. And, she didn't apologize for the mistake, even though they charged my cards three times and wasted a significant amount of my time. Even yesterday, when I asked for an apology, I only received one reluctantly after I pointed out that they had made a mistake -- and even then, the response was dismissive, as if I should just accept it because they were "taking care of it." The attitude throughout this entire situation was rude, unprofessional, and extremely frustrating. The cheesecake was very good. But because of this experience, I would never come back. We drove all the way from Los Angeles to Tehachapi with my family, expecting a pleasant visit, but this bakery completely ruined the day. Being charged a total of $34.09 for just two small items due to repeated errors is unacceptable. If your staff cannot properly process payments, they should not be working as cashiers. Situations like this should never happen. What's even worse is that after making multiple mistakes, there was not a single sincere apology -- only attitude, dismissiveness, and instructions for me to keep checking my bank and call back again. My time is valuable. This entire situation could have been avoided if things were handled properly from the beginning. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I am very disappointed. Cf) For reference, the other $16.05 receipt is for bread that my brother purchased.

This is my second time staying here…read more The first time we got the deluxe room with the HUGE window-- definitely recommend this room! There is a table right at the window so you can enjoy dining/reading/sitting with an incredible and private VIEW! This time we got the only accommodation that has TWO rooms-- so it felt like a small apartment without a kitchen! It's extra spacious and allowed everyone to have their privacy. The rooms are SUPER cute! Yes, the furniture is old. Yes, it looks like grandma's house. But from someone who has stayed in luxury resorts most of the time, these charming and timeless rooms have a special place in my heart. I'm not even sure if this makes sense, but the ambiance welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel right at home. It truly feels like I came to grandmas house. It feels so familiar and I know for a fact, staying here is healing my inner child each time. We all know the views are absolutely incredible-- I mean... breakfast buffet overlooking the cliffs AND you can watch surfers and dolphins in the distance while you enjoy your food? Can't get better than that. You can go visit the shore during low tide or walk over to the pier that leads to an island! This hotel is tucked away from the city and I absolutely love the seclusion. Although it's right next to the highway, staying here feels like stepping into a peaceful parallel universe-- the world still moves on the other side of the wall, but you're suspended in your own quiet, dreamlike bubble until it's time to return to reality. The service is too notch! She has gone out of her way to accommodate us and never made any request feel like it was too much or an inconvenience. If you thought this place couldn't get any better, it DOES-- they have a Restaurant that serves lunch and dinner!!! Let me stop before I write a novel. This has literally become my favorite hotel.

The tiny refrigerator froze everything, including an injectable medication. But the magic of being on the water and hearing waves makes it worth the costs.
