Oh boy, where do I even start. Rick was very quick to respond to my Yelp request: Rick: "Hi Rick here with quality workmanship and speedy service. Yes I can install your Outlets. Let's get started" Me: "Great, would you like any additional info?" Rick: "Yes a day and time." Me: "Great, how about this Wednesday at 10am?" Rick: "That works for me 10am. Send address" I sent my address Me: "I need 3 standard wall outlets, 1 GFCI outlet, a 220V outlet moved over (on the same wall), and an outdoor patio box wired up (currently empty)" Rick: "Ok got it" I thought to myself, "great, he's quick, available, good ratings, let me go ahead with this guy". I'll admit that I screwed up here because at this point I should have: 1. Gotten Rick to give me a quote for the work 2. Asked about his licenses, certifications, etc 3. Read into the other reviews some more Unfortunately, this is my first house, and this was the first contractor I had ever hired, so I didn't know the right way to do things. When Rick came over to do the work, he seemed like a nice guy. I showed him what I needed to be done, and he said he probably wouldn't be able to do some of the work in my attic and crawlspace. He then he told me that he realized that he forgot all the parts at home, so he would have to go to Home Depot. While working, he made sure to point out to me that he would have to charge extra for the 220V plug because it was "his insurance behind it if he got hurt", implying that his work was insured (as far as I can tell, it isn't). Five hours later, he had jigsawed the ever-living-f*** out of my wall, made a HUGE mess both inside and outside, and left early because "it was too hot" and "he had a bunch of work to do on another job at the church". I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. At the end of the day, he charged me $1900 for: - 3 new GFCI outlets - replace 1 existing outlet replaced with a GFCI plug - moved a 220V outlet a foot to the left When he moved the 220V outlet, he switched it from an in-the-wall outlet to an on-the-wall outlet. I asked him if he could put it in the wall like how it was, and he said "no that's not how we do it nowadays". Except, that is how they do it nowadays. The last place I lived was built in 2015 and had an in-the-wall 220V socket. I told him this, and he begrudgingly agreed to switch it out, asking me "are you sure that's how you want it?" (because it was just gonna be more work to install it the right way) After seeing the work he had done and how much he had charged me for it, I was not going to pay him any more. I asked him to send an itemized invoice for all the work he had done, and told him I wanted him to come back and finish the work on the 220V ASAP. I would never, ever, in a million years, recommend Rick Dunbar to anyone for anything -- construction, electrician, I don't care. He overcharged me LIKE CRAZY ($250/outlet, literally the wrong number of outlets) because he knew I wasn't experienced with how much it should have cost. He caused an incredible amount of damage to my walls which I then had to repair MYSELF. It's just unbelievable the kind of work some people will do when they know they can take advantage of the situation. Attached are photos of the work, Rick doing the work, and the itemized invoice. Save yourself some time and headache: - get a good licensed contractor - get an itemized quote ahead of time - 10% upfront, 90% upon completion, or no deal

Old 60 amp breaker that he claimed was new

CLAIMS TO BE A HOLY MAN AND DEACON AND THEN SCAMMED ME!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Today, I had three independent contractors that are licensed and bonded, come by. All three said that his work was ILLEGAL, SLOPPY, DANGEROUS and RISKS the LIFE of MY FAMILY. The work would have to be completely redone. I called up Rick and calmly explained to him what happened with the visits of the electricians. He denied any wrongdoing or danger. He just dismissed it and said, "Nah, I'm done with all of that. People gonna say what they are gonna say. That's what happens when electricians look at the work of other electricians." I mentioned that it wasn't a difference of opinion, they all said that the work wasn't up to code. He just denied it and said that he "didn't agree". I pleaded with him, saying that he risked my family's life, and that I could show him pictures of overheated wires that he installed. The other electricians all noted highly elevated cable temperatures beyond 100 degrees. He didn't care. In fact, he said he "was done" and hung up on me. I'm now spreading the word on my experience and reporting his shoddy work and shady practices to the contractor's board. I will also take him to small claims court. DON'T TRUST THIS GUY!

NEMA installed in my old house.
    Elmer P.

Rick was available, fast, and competitively priced. He came out to SF to do my NEMA outlet for my EV charger. Added bonus was he humored me by letting me watch and learn for myself as I'm a DIY type. I felt like an apprentice, but it was cool learning from a pro.

Tenant call on Monday (Labor Day) had issue by the washing machine in the back ADU with sparks coming out at the water hoses. Call everybody in town but no luck. Then saw Rick Enterprise out of Berkeley and he answered. He did came out the same day and took a look and shut down the breaker, did some minor repairs so tenant could have the power on over night. (5 stars) for coming out on a Holiday and took care of the situation. He told us suppliers closed which we understand and he would contact us tomorrow. Next day came, he call me from the store tell me how much materials will cost and told me he have to run new 150' of 2/3 awg from the main box in the front to the back unit. I told him why do we need change it? It's been working for years. Just check the plugs and the Sub panel around washer. I don't know anything about electrical, tenant is begging for AC because it was 115 degrees out. I ask him how much? He told me $7000 labor and materials. I said fine, he said he could get it done by today. Middle of the day got a text from him and the invoice saying $10,383. Labor $7000, materials $3383. I just let him finished the work then I will get back to him. It was on Labor Day weekend, 115 degrees, i live 2 hours away. I was just desperate to have someone out to get the work done asap. Turn out Rick is not licensed with the State, took advantage of the situation and over charge me. 1 and a half day of work for $7000 Wow!and of course materials $3383 was ridiculous too! Beware and be careful of this dude. He's out there hunting for elderly and desperate clients. We should of move our tenants to hotel overnight and get a few licensed electrical contractors estimate the next day. Lesson learned! Attached is a few photos of Rick Dunbar works, 220volts 90 amps wires exposed next to the fence that he sent to me after we paid him. He also sent me the paperwork that look like he's an agent working for an electrical company. They put him on there he could pull the permit for the company a few years ago. We will file and report him to the State contractor licensed board and keep him away from construction works. Rick if you read this, please stop taking advantage and over charging Peoples when your not even licensed. Have ethical and treat your customers fairly.

Rickey replacing my electrical outlet that went out.
    Jose V.

Rickey responded within minutes of sending him a request on Yelp. He was at my property within the hour and fixed my outlet switch within minutes of arriving. He gave me a great price and fixed my issue while teaching me what was going on. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! Thanks again Rickey!

Rick is not licensed or insured. We wish we had realized that before hiring him to do a significant electrical project in our home, based heavily on the reviews here. He left our house in a state of damage and disrepair, and we have had to pay licensed contractors a lot of money to fix the many problems he created. His "crew" of his "best guys" were complete randos he picked up at home depot (who claim he never paid them) along with his unskilled daughter who he tried to pass off as a professional painter. Given the hot wires he left everywhere, we are just lucky our house didn't burn down.

    Old fixture
    J L.

I highly recommend Rick's Enterprise. Rick showed up right on time (actually a little early) with a mask on and he was ready to go. He is a great guy and very efficient. He replaced three ceiling lights with ceiling fans and switched out a fourth ceiling light with a more modern fixture. He is competitively priced, less than four other bids. I've added him to my phone book and he will be getting a lot more work from us. Thanks for the great work Rick!

Still in the midst of finishing but the room looks so much better.

When I had contacted a variety of other places, it was always "send me pic" - frustrating when you aren't sure what they want. Francisco came out quickly with no up front cost to assess our current electrical panel, asked what we wanted and where we wanted the charger installed, suggested options for EV chargers to buy, and provided free estimates for set ups for plug-in charger vs hardwired. His quote was reasonable, and cost of permit was part of it. We were able to schedule the work to be done relatively quickly, and the job went quickly and smoothly. He was able to help set up the software settings for our Emporia Pro. AOE also helped facilitate county inspection. I am so happy with his work! Francisco readily responded to questions and made sure we were happy with everything. I completely understand why they have so many 5 star reviews! Avoid - Aggressive Sales Tactics and Inflated Pricing…read more We had a negative experience with Five or Free Electrical and strongly do not recommend them. When the electricity went out on the upper level of our home, we called them for help. Instead of sending an electrician, they first sent a salesperson who couldn't assess the issue, only confirm that there was a problem. We were told we had to pay $475 just for a diagnosis, which could be applied to repairs, and that an electrician could come later that day. With no power, we felt pressured to agree. When the electrician arrived, he initially said our 10-year-old electrical panel was in bad condition and needed to be replaced for over $7,000, with a two-day wait. When we explained we couldn't wait, he tightened some wires on the spot and turned the power back on. He then changed his recommendation and said we didn't need a new panel, just a "cleanup" for $6,500, which he said would take 3-6 hours with two electricians. He also quoted $4,500 to clean up our downstairs panel. On the day of service, only one electrician showed up, and it took about three hours to complete the panel cleanup. Based on what we paid, this came out to over $2,000 per hour. I decided to get a second estimate for our downstairs panel, and the work was completed this morning for $360. That is a huge difference from the $4,500 quote we were given. Our experience with Five or Free was misleading, inconsistent, and extremely overpriced. AVOID!

Previously there was one two-prong outlet per bedroom, and the 1750sqft condo was on one line. With 4 people living in the condo, this was a disaster because it meant if someone was running the washer or dryer in one room, another person was playing video games or in a Zoom meeting, and a third person had the audacity to attempt to blow-dry their hair or vacuum, the entire condo would lose power and we'd have to navigate down the condo stairs in the dark and outside to reset the breaker. BV Electric put 4 new lines in and 8 or 9 outlets across 4 rooms (the living room and three of the bedrooms) for an affordable price. If we happen to trip a breaker now (which is very rare and our own fault for overloading with too much in one room), at least the entire house doesn't go dark and the Internet remains on as we keep it on a separate line with just the TV. This has saved us a ton of headache, not to mention helped our employment as we stopped spontaneously dropping off business Zoom calls due to losing power across the whole condo.

Rigo did a great job with the 3 things I had done: replacing an electrical panel, replacing 2 light fixtures, and installing a smoke alarm. He was on time, knowledgable, and efficient. I don't think it is necessarily the cheapest option around but with something like this, quality and experience matters and they did a great job and handle permits and such. They did exactly what I asked them to do and were responsive over email and able to ask the exact questions they needed which made things seamless. This is not necessarily a bad thing but they could have probably done some kind of "walk through" around the place and found some additional work for me. Upselling is obviously not always a great practice but in my case, there were some things that I wish I had done and I think they could have suggested them and left it up to me to say yes/no to during the initial inspection. For example my kitchen could definitely use at least 1 additional outlet, I should have probably replaced a 3rd light, and so on. I do respect that they don't try to take you on a ride but since it is probably efficient to do things all at once, may have been helpful to discuss (this was also my bad for not noticing these things before). Rigo did a bunch of smaller things that made a big difference too like taking out the packaging for the lights and the old ones as well as the old electrical panel, clearly labeling all the switches very neatly which was not well done before, answering my questions and explaining things in a way that I (someone with little knowledge about most of this stuff) would understand.

The project did take longer than initially expected due to delays outside of their control, but the quality of the work never wavered. From the beginning, the team was professional, knowledgeable, and extremely thorough. They explained what needed to be done, why it mattered, and what to expect at each step, which made a potentially stressful process feel very manageable. Raushan, the project manager, was great to work with and incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. He was responsive, organized, and always made sure we were informed and comfortable with the plan. Alex, one of the technicians, worked incredibly hard during the rewire and clearly took pride in his work. Bek, another technician, truly went above and beyond - paying close attention to the details and making sure everything was done perfectly, not just "good enough." Beyond the rewire, they handled multiple additional electrical upgrades and fixes around the house, all done cleanly and correctly. What really stood out was trust. Having a crew in your home for a major electrical project isn't easy, but we always felt confident that they had our best interests in mind. No corner-cutting, no unnecessary upsells, just solid, high-quality work. The crew was respectful, showed up when they said they would, and stayed focused until the job was fully complete. I highly recommend Max Electric and would absolutely hire them again!
