Oh boy, where do I even start. Rick was very quick to respond to my Yelp request: Rick: "Hi Rick here with quality workmanship and speedy service. Yes I can install your Outlets. Let's get started" Me: "Great, would you like any additional info?" Rick: "Yes a day and time." Me: "Great, how about this Wednesday at 10am?" Rick: "That works for me 10am. Send address" I sent my address Me: "I need 3 standard wall outlets, 1 GFCI outlet, a 220V outlet moved over (on the same wall), and an outdoor patio box wired up (currently empty)" Rick: "Ok got it" I thought to myself, "great, he's quick, available, good ratings, let me go ahead with this guy". I'll admit that I screwed up here because at this point I should have: 1. Gotten Rick to give me a quote for the work 2. Asked about his licenses, certifications, etc 3. Read into the other reviews some more Unfortunately, this is my first house, and this was the first contractor I had ever hired, so I didn't know the right way to do things. When Rick came over to do the work, he seemed like a nice guy. I showed him what I needed to be done, and he said he probably wouldn't be able to do some of the work in my attic and crawlspace. He then he told me that he realized that he forgot all the parts at home, so he would have to go to Home Depot. While working, he made sure to point out to me that he would have to charge extra for the 220V plug because it was "his insurance behind it if he got hurt", implying that his work was insured (as far as I can tell, it isn't). Five hours later, he had jigsawed the ever-living-f*** out of my wall, made a HUGE mess both inside and outside, and left early because "it was too hot" and "he had a bunch of work to do on another job at the church". I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. At the end of the day, he charged me $1900 for: - 3 new GFCI outlets - replace 1 existing outlet replaced with a GFCI plug - moved a 220V outlet a foot to the left When he moved the 220V outlet, he switched it from an in-the-wall outlet to an on-the-wall outlet. I asked him if he could put it in the wall like how it was, and he said "no that's not how we do it nowadays". Except, that is how they do it nowadays. The last place I lived was built in 2015 and had an in-the-wall 220V socket. I told him this, and he begrudgingly agreed to switch it out, asking me "are you sure that's how you want it?" (because it was just gonna be more work to install it the right way) After seeing the work he had done and how much he had charged me for it, I was not going to pay him any more. I asked him to send an itemized invoice for all the work he had done, and told him I wanted him to come back and finish the work on the 220V ASAP. I would never, ever, in a million years, recommend Rick Dunbar to anyone for anything -- construction, electrician, I don't care. He overcharged me LIKE CRAZY ($250/outlet, literally the wrong number of outlets) because he knew I wasn't experienced with how much it should have cost. He caused an incredible amount of damage to my walls which I then had to repair MYSELF. Put a bid request on a different local service and Rickey of Rick's Enterprise Electric responded immediately. I explained my issue (I blew out an outlet and was worried I damaged more), and we set a time for him to come to my place the next day. Rickey stayed in perfect communication and arrived as agreed. We were without power for two weeks because he screwed up and Rick did not fix the problem or seem concerned at all. A $100 breaker went missing and we had to press him to 'find' it. He asked us for more money after he flubbed the job. My husband had to work multiple weekends on his own doing parts of the electrical work and wound up re-doing parts Rick had done incorrectly. He scheduled the city inspector over our objections when we told him we weren't ready -- and the city inspector failed us. He neglected to inform PG&E of the work taking place, so PG&E drove a truck out and cut our electricity. We were without power for two weeks. We asked workers to please wear a mask if they were coming inside to use the bathroom and left a box of free masks by the door. Rick said we needed more Jesus in our life to stop being afraid of Covid. He showed up unannounced at 8:30 am on a Sunday blaring Christian music to the whole neighborhood. Actually, he never called or texted before he showed up. He just expected us to be home all the time. He lied about applying for the permit. The crew left a mess of plastic trash, odds and ends all over the grounds and a piece of lumber on the roof. I could go on, but I think you get the point. read more

CLAIMS TO BE A HOLY MAN AND DEACON AND THEN SCAMMED ME!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! Today, I had three independent contractors that are licensed and bonded, come by. All three said that his work was ILLEGAL, SLOPPY, DANGEROUS and RISKS the LIFE of MY FAMILY. The work would have to be completely redone. I called up Rick and calmly explained to him what happened with the visits of the electricians. He denied any wrongdoing or danger. He just dismissed it and said, "Nah, I'm done with all of that. People gonna say what they are gonna say. That's what happens when electricians look at the work of other electricians." I mentioned that it wasn't a difference of opinion, they all said that the work wasn't up to code. He just denied it and said that he "didn't agree". I pleaded with him, saying that he risked my family's life, and that I could show him pictures of overheated wires that he installed. The other electricians all noted highly elevated cable temperatures beyond 100 degrees. He didn't care. In fact, he said he "was done" and hung up on me. I'm now spreading the word on my experience and reporting his shoddy work and shady practices to the contractor's board. I will also take him to small claims court. DON'T TRUST THIS GUY! read more

Tenant call on Monday (Labor Day) had issue by the washing machine in the back ADU with sparks coming out at the water hoses. Call everybody in town but no luck. Then saw Rick Enterprise out of Berkeley and he answered. He did came out the same day and took a look and shut down the breaker, did some minor repairs so tenant could have the power on over night. (5 stars) for coming out on a Holiday and took care of the situation. He told us suppliers closed which we understand and he would contact us tomorrow. Next day came, he call me from the store tell me how much materials will cost and told me he have to run new 150' of 2/3 awg from the main box in the front to the back unit. I told him why do we need change it? It's been working for years. Just check the plugs and the Sub panel around washer. I don't know anything about electrical, tenant is begging for AC because it was 115 degrees out. I ask him how much? He told me $7000 labor and materials. I said fine, he said he could get it done by today. Middle of the day got a text from him and the invoice saying $10,383. Labor $7000, materials $3383. I just let him finished the work then I will get back to him. It was on Labor Day weekend, 115 degrees, i live 2 hours away. I was just desperate to have someone out to get the work done asap. Turn out Rick is not licensed with the State, took advantage of the situation and over charge me. 1 and a half day of work for $7000 Wow!and of course materials $3383 was ridiculous too! Beware and be careful of this dude. He's out there hunting for elderly and desperate clients. We should of move our tenants to hotel overnight and get a few licensed electrical contractors estimate the next day. Lesson learned! Attached is a few photos of Rick Dunbar works, 220volts 90 amps wires exposed next to the fence that he sent to me after we paid him. He also sent me the paperwork that look like he's an agent working for an electrical company. They put him on there he could pull the permit for the company a few years ago. We will file and report him to the State contractor licensed board and keep him away from construction works. I had reached out to Rick for installation of a 14-50 nema outlet for my Tesla charger. From the pictures I sent him, he had sent me back a game plan and the best quote of all the electricians in the area. Rick came the next day that I told him I would be available. In addition to his great workmanship, he's a cool dude to just converse with. Will definitely be reaching out to him again in the future for any additional work around the house. read more

Don't do it. 1. He isn't licensed or insured. (Rick, prove me wrong - post your contractor number) 2. He insists that all checks be written to him, even for his subcontractors - and then he doesn't pay them. 3. He frequently lies - we agreed upon a certain brand of recessed light for the job, and I then discovered boxes of a cheaper brand on site ("sorry, my mistake!"). He repeatedly referenced the guys working with him as his "best people" - according to those people, they had never worked together before as they just met at Home Depot. I assume they won't ever work together again, since he doesn't pay them (see point #2, above). 4. After being confronted about not paying some of the workers, he returned the next day, packed up his tools, and left the job unfinished. Not only was the job unfinished, but our home was a mess - debris was everywhere, some floors were scratched, loose wiring, lights and fans were hanging off the ceiling/walls, and a utility sink was clogged with construction material. 5. We brought in legitimate electricians to review, fix and finish the job - their assessment of Rick's work ranges from "incredibly sloppy" to "complete fire hazard". Rick will most likely respond to this review saying that he never worked with me - see point #3, above. The pictures of him on site, e-mail invoices from his wife, and check images that we gave him for payment prove otherwise - Rick, you know I have them, so let's not go down this road. read more

He left our house in a state of damage and disrepair, and we have had to pay licensed contractors a lot of money to fix the many problems he created. His "crew" of his "best guys" were complete randos he picked up at home depot (who claim he never paid them) along with his unskilled daughter who he tried to pass off as a professional painter. This was incredibly disappointing. Rickey was nice and friendly, but most of the work he did was sloppy. On a COVID note, he did not wear a mask at all, so we kept most of our windows and doors open for the 6+ hours of his visit. He did install some recessed lighting with a dimmer that works beautifully. Everything else, however, was a bust. I asked for a chandelier centered in the dining room. That feels like a pretty clear request, and yet the chandelier is about a foot to a foot and a half off center in both directions. He did not have a switch plate for the new chandelier switch - we had to buy that later. The way he patched up the drywall by that switch was so uneven that the switch plate would not sit flush against the wall. I had to re-do the patching and adjust the electrical box in order for the plate to attach to the box and sit nicely on the wall. I also asked for an outdoor outlet. He did not bring a weatherproof box for the outlet and initially told me I would have to purchase and install that later. He later went to Home Depot for something else and did end up getting and installing the weatherproof cover. He had to remove two existing switch plates to make some adjustments. On both of them, he did not reattach all of the screws, or even keep the screws aside in an obvious place. We later noticed the missing screws and found them in a trash pile on the floor. He dented one wall with his ladder. He did not clean up at all. Our entire living and dining room were covered with dust and trash when he left. read more

Contacted Rick through Yelp on a Saturday to get an estimate on the 230 v electrical for a new hot tub. He immediately gave me a reasonable estimate over yelp and was at my house the next day ( a Sunday) to get to work. He explained very clearly what would need to be done and, even though he revised his estimate to some degree once he assessed the extent of the work, he still gave me a better bid than other electricians and was willing to let me to provide materials to reduce costs.
