I've been looking for a good steakhouse in the area for a long time. My first trip to this restaurant was very underwhelming. I do not understand why some chefs feel the need to over season every cut of beef. A good steak only requires a little salt-and-pepper and the right amount of heat. The steak was so over seasoned I actually had to ask for Worcestershire sauce just to cover up the flavor. It's a shame when you have to cover up the taste of a prime piece of beef. The Caesar salad was good. Both of the sides we tried were good. The wait staff was very courteous, but slow. I suspect they might be pulling their staff from Clemson University's student pool. Despite the restaurant not being very full, we were placed at a table where my chair stuck out into the rest of the restaurant. At least a half-dozen times during our dinner, one of the waitstaff came through and bumped me with his or her rear end, as they tried to squeeze between my chair and the person sitting directly behind me. The waitstaff always apologized, but at no point should you ever bump a patron. Just walk around where you don't have to touch anyone. The waitstaff also doesn't seem to understand the difference between bottled water and tapwater. I ordered Fiji, and the person I was dining with ordered tapwater. At various times during our dinner, one of the waitstaff came through and crossed up our water, pouring my Fiji into his tap and later pouring a bucket of tap into my Fiji. All in all, we ended up getting two over seasoned steaks, two salads, two sides, some water, and two desserts for $180. read more

This is the second of Rick Erwin's restaurants we have experienced. The restaurant itself is well decorated and has a dark wood, lower light level type of ambiance. Very relaxing. There is a very nice wine list and the cocktails are very well done. The menu has something for everyone including a nice appetizer list, salad selection, small plates, steaks, seafood, chicken, and even sandwiches. The wait staff is very attentive and food arrives promptly. This restaurant is in a new development area and the address is not in the GPS, but it is really worth the effort it takes to find it. We live some 45 miles away but will be coming to Ruck Erwin's often. read more

This is the second time in the last 9 moths that we waited 1 1/2 hours to get our food. The excuse is always we had several big parties. Why should other guests suffer because you accept big parties that your kitchen can't handle. Either fix the kitchen issues or limit party sizes. read more

Wow! The service was incredible and the food was even better. I grew up in Clemson and this by far exceeds any place in town. I currently live in Washington, DC and it is as good as any place I have been in DC. The filet was cooked perfectly, the fried green tomatoes were amazing, the mussels fantastic and the bar is great. The bloody mary was delicious as was the wine. Oh and the mac and cheese--best I've ever had! Will be a regular every time I come to town. And again--the most amazing service you will find anywhere near Clemson. Exceptional! read more

Food was good and prepared well. I had a steak "Pittsburgh rare" and it was done to perfection. Service good. Our waitress was unfamiliar with several menu items but delivered food on time. Nice to have an upscale restaurant in the western upstate! read more

While the food was great several issues made our dinning experience disappointing. First we arrived early in the hopes of having a drink at the bar. We were told we could be seated immediately and were given the table right by the kitchen door along with a cold weather breeze coming from the front door. Our waitress was nice but not helpful in going over menu options and choices. We were there for my wife's birthday and waitress was aware of this. We each had a champagne cocktail, shared a nice bottle of wine and one after dinner drink plus desert. Mr. Erwin found time to say, "Hi and chat with everyone", EXCEPT US. Very "Bad Manners indeed"! Our bill came to 271.50 without tip, so you think the owner would at least come over to say "Thanks for Joining Them this evening"! NO WAY! After the waitress took my credit card she asked my wife if she wanted another drink. My wife said yes and the waitress told me she would have to ring up another credit card bill for $9.00!!!! Rather Cheap, I'd say! Just so you know I did tip her a respectable 25%. Look the food was great but the experience, (when you consider the BILL amount and the Erwin name), was terrible and totally disrespectful. If you want to try this place, just order from the "specials menu" and forget about drinks. You can escape without much damage. After all you can be disrespected at McDonalds! read more

Great dinner at Rick Erwin's in Clemson! This is the only restaurant in town to rival Pixey's or Calhoun Corners. The new years special of filet and lobster tail were still going strong. Sam did a great job of taking good care of our party and making sure we made our basketball game tip off time. The wine selection was excellent and the service was on the spot. I selected from the 3 for $42 and had Danish baby back ribs, caesar salad and cream brûlée. My wife had the filet and lobster, Caesar salad and key lime pie. All entry's were excellent and the key lime pie was a group fav. This was an excellent choice and we will be back for sure. I made reservations to celebrate a birthday. We were greeted by very friendly lady as we walked in and she was accommodating when we asked to be seated in a booth. We ordered drinks but before the drinks came the waitress kept coming by to take are order(what was the rush).We had to ask what the specials were for the day instead of the waitress telling Us. My wife ordered the sea food medley which was shimp, crab cake and a lobster tail. The tail was over cooked. I had the veal which was tough. Over priced for the experience. read more

When a restaurant positions itself at this price point one would expect quality to match. The service was great, but... -- one of the oysters was bad, it smelled bad. Don't they have noses in the kitchen? -- just because it's rice doesn't make it risotto. -- seared tuna should be seared, slightly crusty on the outside and not cold on the inside. -- I've never seen tuna with gristle before. -- I know that Erwins sells side dishes ala cart, but at 30 plus dollars for a steak, couldn't they at least put a sprig of parsley on the plate? read more

Truly enjoyed the dinner. I was blessed to celebrate my step daughters (not sure why they call them step children... maybe because it's a 10 step program before they accept you anyways :) 21st birthday. We had excellent service and she got to celebrate with a "Flaming Shot" it was great experience and something she and I will remember for the rest of our lives. Rick Erwins of Clemson is not same standard as in Greenville. We have tried it twice since moving from Greenville to Clemson area. First time I made reservations weeks in advance. They over booked and had us set at a table in the bar. Although I wasn't that happy about being sat in bar area with reservations, we stayed. Food was decent, but waiter was overloaded and couldn't handle the rush. The food runner kept mixing up the crammed tables together and me and other guests were just as frustrated passing food around and sat elbow to elbow. Overall taste of food was average. We came back second time last week to celebrate our anniversary that I also made reservations for weeks in advance to give it a second chance. We sat in main dining room, but very close to table next to us again. Server was no where to be found most of time, her assistant got us drinks, food runner ran food, no steak knife, bread arrived after entre, no checking up. I had to flag down assistant or someone to help get me a knife, drink refills, etc. The most I seen her was when they messed up the food need to us and server and manager was there apologizing. Again, food was decent, nothing special, but overall atmosphere and service is not what the restaurants in Greenville are. Oh well, sticking to Greenville locations for now on. read more

After reading all the positive reviews, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to check out Rick Erwin's. It lived up to its good reputation! I decided on the special, which was a soft shell crab on a vegetable hash. It was excellent! My counterparts ordered the butcher's sirloin, which also looked really great. On a busy night, I recommend reservations. It is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service and food! Although a little on the pricey side, it's worth it for a splurge! read more

Our first time dinning and new to the aera from Atlanta. Loved the atmosphere. The tempera broccoli was doughy inside. The tempera shrimp appetizer was not really Tempera batter at all and the dip was bland and watery. the slaw they served with it was fabulous! We will give it another try. read more

Went for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend. I mentioned this when I made the reservation and they left us a card on the table! Amazing service. Had the ribs, which were tasty. Only complaint was it was pricey for a student budget. Many menu items did not come with sides, which contributes to price issue. read more

I have only eaten at Rick Erwin's once, but it definitely ruined me for all other restaurants. The service is second to none. From the very start, you can tell that every person involved with your meal at Rick Erwins is trained extensively. Of course, it is pricey, but you do actually get a LOT of food. One word describes this..... AMAZING.. The staff were super nice, ensured all our needs were met, food arrived spaced appropriately (appetizer, salads, entree).. My wife and I have been to some of the best steakhouses in the country (Chicago, Atlanta, etc) and Rick Irwin's 40 day dry aged Delmoncio was the most flavorful well marbled steak cooked spot on. The fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese was out of this world.. Oh, even the executive chef greeted us and asked how everything was... Definitely coming back. was thrilled that Rick was coming to Clemson! have been many times since it's opening - celebrated birthdays and just went for a nice meal with ambience- ambience remains but the menu needs to be updated - wine pours are smaller than when opened- chips at bar are cooked too much - just updating the menu would help!! one thing that is consistent is the great waitstaff - concentrate on those currently operating without opening new locations!!!! read more

Rick Erwins is my go to for special occasions and I am never disappointed. Last night was no exception. We (all 6 of us) were greeted warmly, taken to a booth which was all set up for us. I have been twice before to this restaurant on a Friday night before a Clemson home game. It's really busy and hard to get a reservation on these nights. My last visit was very disappointing. We had an early reservation but it was already pretty busy. The servers are very good, but they were really rushing us through each course. Oysters Rockefeller, which we have gotten before were cold and had obviously been sitting out. Only one of the 3 family style sides we got with our steaks was hot. The creamed spinach was so cold I couldn't eat it. My filet was delicious but my husband's ribeye was not cooked to his order. Unfortunate experience for this "high end" of a restaurant. read more
