Awesome Authentic Mexican Food!! The Staff here are so friendly and helpful!! The kitchen is cranking out the delicious food!! The atmosphere is upbeat and !! Started with the Tacos Dorados which were 4 rolled tacos with shredded chicken and served with verde sauce, excellent! I got the California burrito but substituted carne asada instead of carnitas and without black beans. Best CA burrito since I left CA! My wife got the carnitas and she loved it. Service was excellent and extremely friendly. Only complaint was the large margarita came in 12oz mug but menu says large is 16oz. We will be coming back from Easley for SURE! read more

A family restaurant that packs a big punch. As an out of towner I am always looking for a gem but often times I come up short. That was not the case for The Mexican. A smaller, family owned restaurant, The Mexican delivers flavorful food and an overall great experience. My wife and I ordered some chips and salsa and the fresh guacamole. That's when I knew I was in the right place. The guac wasn't anything overly complicated but the simplicity and freshness made it perfect. Paired with their home made chips I could have eaten my weight in chips, guac and salsa. Fortunately I didn't because my main entree choice was ramenbierria and it were out of this world! It was a cold rainy day and this dish just called out to me. I would have never thought to try this dish otherwise but I am a huge fan. The flavors of the meat and broth along with the fresh cilantro and onions was the perfect marriage of flavors. My wife ordered the street tacos and could not stop dipping her tacos in my Bierria broth. She let me try it and what a mistake that was. We ordered another round of tacos and ate until we couldn't eat any more. The service was really nice and super fast. Restaurant is a converted house with nice outdoor seating. Shredded chicken enchiladas was only $12! Fresh corn tortillas and quality ingredients. Our first two trips here were great. I LOVE their chips, salsa, bean dip, and enchiladas! And from here on out, if we go back, I will only order the enchiladas. Their fajita (anything) is clunky. The peppers and onions aren't cut consistently and are very clunky. My husband had fajita quesadilla. I had fajita nachos. I wouldn't recommend either if you don't want giant unevenly cut chunks of peppers and onions. If you do, go for it!! Their al pastor, Birria, and Tinga chicken are all pretty good. Bean dip is great. If you don't like sour cream/crema ask for it on the side. I asked for crema on the side on my nachos though and still got it squirted all over the top of my nachos. (Kind of ruins my meal when this happens because I don't care for sour cream. If it's a dollop, easy to scrape off. If it's squirted on top of the whole plate, I end up losing my top layer of food.) Their enchiladas, rice, and beans are all really great. Also loved their margarita with hibiscus. I don't care for the tajin rim personally but my husband enjoys it. We went the day after their cinco de mayo party, wouldn't do that again. We felt like the margaritas we got that day were possibly leftovers from the day before and our food was a bit disappointing. I would go back. Because I love their chips and salsa (and bean dip and queso) and enchiladas. I would not get fajita anything and would make sure they hear no crema from now on. So nice we had it twice this weekend, and plan to return for more offerings as soon as we can. This place is in the heart of central South Carolina and a stone throw from Clemson. They have an incredible outdoor space and a stage for live music and events. Let's get to the food which is by far the best Mexican food I have had in some time! They have birria options for days here, as well as the thick cut hand made tortillas, so your chips are always fresh and don't break in the guacamole The Al pastor was marinated properly, and the flavor really shined through and had a great pop of that chipotle. The nachos were tops very well and evenly distributed and layered. The service was friendly and accurate, and answered any questions we had. I had the senor burrito and the birria, and neither disappointed. Amazing, authentic Mexican food. You can tell abuela (Mexican grandma) is throwing down back there!! Making tortillas from scratch, salsas and chips all from scratch, amazing marinades on the meats, the freshest homemade foods... and homemade desserts. Their La Carlota is like a Mexican tirimisu. SO good! They make their own aqua frescos (the homemade juices), like horchata, Jamaica (hibiscus flower tea), mango juice etc. All super fresh and not from powders or cans. This place is the real deal. I'm from California and grew up with all Mexican people. This tastes like going to friends homes and their grandmas and moms cooking for me-- the best! We've been three times now, and every time is delicious! We usually get the fresh chips and salsas (yes they cost, and yes it's homemade an d fresh and worth it!) and the tacos . We get al pastor (marinated beef) , asada (grilled beef), pollo (marinated chicken), shredded chicken, and camarones (shrimp). We love them all- so flavorful! My son gets the chicken and cheese tacos and loves them-- he's picky. He also liked their rice. We tried the queso w chorizo dip w chips. It was good. I'm not a queso person (California doesn't really have that.) my son liked it- it wasn't spicy. We tried the red sauce chicken enchiladas -- Sooooo fresh and amazing. Light and not gross heavy like many enchiladas at places. You can tell nothing is canned. Tortillas homemade and fresh. Topped with all the good stuff. Homemade desserts too! Their inside is cute. But the outside patio is magical. Great mix of Spanish music playing, nice lights, a walk up bar, hammock chair, a mix of high top and low tables, etc. Sports games playing. We've driven by The Mexican a couple dozen times, at least, and were always on our way somewhere with no time to stop. This time, we stopped, and we were really glad we did. We had our dog with us so we sat in the nice courtyard area, which got crowded very quickly on this Friday night. Gia waited on us and provided excellent service, and the food was some of the best we can remember. The chips and guac were excellent - homemade tortilla chips with just the right amount (that is, light!) of salt, and hefty, not at all greasy, and able to hold up to the density of the delicious guacamole. The pitcher of classic margaritas was also very good, although a little heavy on the ice. On Gia's recommendation we each ordered something from the Birrias section - the Quaesabirrias and the Birrias Burrito - and both were excellent. All this and the check before tip was just over $56 - a very reasonable price for a substantial and delicious dinner. Today was my first visit to "The Mexican." First, let me say how warm and inviting the staff was. I was greeted promptly by a gentleman who was attentive and friendly. I chose to sit inside. Nothing remarkable about the inside (good or bad) but I really liked the black table clothes that covered the tables, cool look! They do not have fountain drinks but I had a nice tasting Mexican coke. I was brought a small bowl of their complimentary red broth and pasta soup and it tasted good. Tortilla chips were not brought out but I saw others with chips. It could be you have to ask or they are not complimentary. The chips I saw others eating looked good, I will order some next time. So their most popular dish is the Quesabirra (shredded beef tacos that can be dipped in their Birria Broth. This is the dish I chose. So, having grown up in Southern California, I have tasted more than my fair share of outstanding Mexican food, and this dish is as good if not better than those I've had in SoCal. I have tried a few of the local places around Clemson and they are so-so, not bad but nothing worth writing home about. The Mexican has given me new hope that I can enjoy Mexican cuisine like I had in SoCal. I am looking forward to returning and will likely sit outside next time where they have a great courtyard with a really great looking bar-hieght firepit table. What a delightful find in Central, SC! Our server, Dave, explained how everything is house-made and authentic. The Quesabirries were fabulous - tender shredded beef and a tasty broth. The tortilla was crispy, but tender. The Sopa with Pork El Pastor was delicious as well. Dave mentioned that starting November 1st, they will be serving alcohol. overall, the food is very very good! it is however, very expensive. you have to basically pay for everything here. chips and salsa are not free, you have to pay for rice and beans. the first time i came here, i left hungry (i only got 3 tacos). i would steer clear of the steak (was very dry to me) and choose a shredded meat (like birria or carnitas) ! i really liked their chips, the birria quesadilla, and the carnitas tacos! i highly recommend getting a quesadilla (best deal) and their green hot sauce is also amazing! overall, probably the best mexican in the area but expensive. i wish they had a coke machine . i was sad they didn't have diet coke (only in a can). also the service is so slow. like so slow. but i still recommend because of the lack of good mexican in the area . read more
