I've been getting food from here at LEAST once a week during quarantine. Sometimes three times a week. The queso is to die for. The street tacos are amazeballs. Before the whole quarantine shindig went down, the large margs were where it's at. The staff is friendly and funny. Would come again for the fourth time this week ;D read more

Food is so good, they just reopened we had to try it out. Very convenient menu you just scan with your phone and you can see pictures of ALL the menu items was very nice and unique. We usually get a gravy boat size of queso at other restaurants I will say this is quite smaller for $6 we had to order a second order, but it was delicious and doesn't have peppers like most places which we liked. I got the El Burro Estrello wo onions it had green, yellow and red peppers and I got steak as the meat. It was very good. The sauce on this is amazing I highly recommend, I would def order it again it was so much food I'm so full. My husband got the pick 2 combo and got cheese enchiladas with rice and beans, he liked it and would order again. I can't tell you enough how good the salsa is here it's so good we ate like 3 bowls even my kids ate it and they won't anywhere else! Try it out it's a good place. It's was about $50 for our meal but was well made food, fast and good service. read more

This is the greatest restaurant in the tri-state area. Food is amazing, drinks are delightful, and the crew working here just really puts the cherry on top. Every time I come here I leave a better person than I was when I walked in. Great prices too and they always have some kind of special and/or dj spectacular going on. Worth every penny! read more

It has been tough to find a quality Hispanic restaurant in Clemson but this place is definitely my new go-to. The place is actually pretty big upon entrance with gives of very spacious vibes. Many places fall short when it comes to decent chips but this place hit it on the spot. I opted for El Especial which had a bit of everything and really enjoyed it. I do wish I substituted some of the ground beef for chicken as there is a lot in the dish. However, it still tasted great and actually had very large sized portions. Olivia was very kind and attentive as our waitress so kudos to her. All in all, I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place and look forward to coming back. read more

Food and service are incredible. I'm passing through, and I'm bummed this place isn't closer to home. I got the carne asada tacos, amazing. Chips are perfect, crispy and light, salted to perfection. HIGHLY recommend read more

I'm going to preface this review by saying I love the food here and haven't had too bad of an experience in the past with any workers. Yeah COVID makes things harder for everyone working at a restaurant, but oh my goodness, everyone working out front today was incompetent (especially hostess). Had to wait in lobby for a party of 5 for 20-25 minutes and the only time we were spoken to was when we tried to get the hostess' attention. The response was "just hold on a minute". I have worked in the back and out front of a sit down restaurant for 3+ years, so I don't know everything but I'd like to think I know at least a little bit about how to treat a customer and this wasn't it. If there were no open tables, tell me. If a table was opening up soon, tell me. If I'm supposed to sit down myself, tell me. Your literal job is to be welcoming and treat customers as good as you're able to. This would be a little more understanding with a packed restaurant and no staff, but there was at least the hostess and 2 waiters with 6-10 tables and nobody said anything to us. There was also a party of 12 behind us and we were glanced at multiple times so the case wasn't that we weren't seen. I told myself I would never write any sort of negative review cause I didn't want to be an asshole, but besides food poisoning, the start to this night was the worst dining experience I've had. Waiter was nice, but no sense of urgency after our long wait. Normally like to think of myself as pretty low maintenance but this got me. THE FOOD IS THE ONLY REASON FOR THE 2 STAR RATHER THAN A 1. 08/27/20 read more

Absolutely love to dine at this restaurant when visiting Clemson. The service is quick, staff is friendly, and food is bursting with flavor. The ambience is perfect bar scene and perfect for watching games. The manager, Ricardo, is always funny and friendly. Favorite thing to order is carne asada tacos. They always taste fresh. read more

I love Monterrey's. The workers are friendly. They move quickly even during a wait. Definitely recommend!

Got my 10yr old a plain Burrito with grilled chicken only. They charged me $10 bc they had to grill the chicken. Could not get service the entire time. Even got our own drinks for ourselves. Bad service! Outrageous to pay $10 for 1 plain burrito with no sides. We won't be back read more

Poor service and terrible Nachos supremes. If you want cheesy soup with a side of soggy nachos then definitely get this. Super slow service and you basically have to serve yourself. read more

Betraying my roots, as an El Jimadors fanatic, I headed to Monterreys. The battle between the two Mexican restaurants is not faux- I promised to keep an open mind, but after a few bites of my meal, I knew I had made a mistake. El Jimadors is my omega. I ordered the fish tacos at Monterrays, being a fish taco lover, I was underwhelmed and unimpressed with their take of this delicious dish. Betraying my roots proved my self distaste and failure. read more

Phenomenal authentic Mexican food. The carne asada was the best I've ever had. Ultra thin steak, moist, and cooked perfectly. Excellent size portions for the $$. Skip the chain joints and head over here. You won't be disappointed! read more

We visit this great place, Monterrey of Clemson often and for many years. The food has never disappointed us. If you feel sick or it is cold outside..... love, love, love: Soap de Pollo; Great chicken fajitas, taco salad, Chili releno, chicken cheese Quesidia; Good bean, rice, salsa, warm chips, ; incredible tea and Margaritas. The turn over of waiters is concerning but the gentlemen at the counter has always been very accommodating. Most of the time the service has been great and we have been disappointed seldom. We will keep patronizing this great place as long as we are pleased. We enjoy the atmosphere and the prompt seating, service, taste and quality of Monterey of Clemson/Central. read more

Nice lunch in fun restaurant. Fresh chips offered with hot and mild salsas. Chicken tortilla soup was tasty and hit the spot on a cold day. Hubby's Monterey with sliced, grilled steak and onions was delicious. He even ate the rice, which he never does. Fresh made margarita topped it off. Friendly service - we'll be back (would like to give 3.5 stars) read more

Service is horrible. The worst I've had. Waited over 30 minutes to even talk to a hostess. Management needs to be fixed. Disappointed.

The food that I have tried here is good. The staff doesn't really know much about the menus. You ask, "what's on this or what comes with this" the waitresses really dont know and always have to go ask so got to the point I just say forget it. The portions are smaller than other restaurants in the area. The parking lot is setup kinda weird but overall the restaurant is clean, calming and food is good. Train the waitresses more about the menu, will make a better review. Without good waitress it makes the restaurant not worth visiting. read more

Never disappoints. Always quick and delicious. Queso done right and the best in town. Lunch menu had most everything and is so good and at great prices. read more

Bland, greasy as hell and barely seasoned, leftovers sat in my fridge for days before I threw it out.

I used to love this place because of the great food at great prices. But late last year they increased the prices by almost three dollars for a lot of items and called it, "competitive pricing." How is that competitive when Monterrey is now the most expensive Mexican restaurant in town? El Jimador, Fiesta Grill, Pancho's, and Vaqueros are all less expensive than this place now. I can get a Pick Two at this place for $11 (used to be $8) or I can go somewhere like Fiesta Grill and get better service, good food, and the same size portion for only $7.25. I love Monterrey but a good, well managed business doesn't increase prices by that much in a college town. Just not treating the clientele well. read more

It's so good! If you go ask for Pedro he's the best!! He's my little brother. He's also my best friend! Love you Pedro.

Leslie is the best. Amazing server. She is so kind!!!!!! I will definitely be coming back.

I'd like to start off by saying the food tasted good. Good portion sizes and it was decent. However, the menu on Yelp and the menu at the restaurant are very different because the one on yelp has more options, vegetarian options, and lower prices. We heard there were $1 tacos but apparently that only applied to the "side" taco which wasn't vegetarian and was just beef and lettuce so I just ordered something else. It was fine, but there's no real reason for me to choose this place when there are other places out there. read more

I have one good thing to say to salvage the one star. Their decor inside was very nice and pleasant and made for a nice atmosphere.. But that didn't last long. This was the worst dining experience I've had in a long time. The wait staff was not only snappy and rude, but they were completely incompetent. The hostess gave us dirty looks the whole time, and the waiter we had couldn't understand what we were ordering and didn't seem to know the menu at all. He also used some expletives when he was frustrated with us for confusing him. When the food came out it was completely a joke. There was nothing but beef inside of my burrito or enchilada. Same with my girlfriend's plate. The food was bland and the chicken was dry. Overall I would not recommend this to anyone, nor would I ever consider going back. I'd find another place to eat if I were you. read more

I always come for the margs. Great food too! The wait staff is always so welcoming! If you ever come, ask for Jaki!!!

The great service and friendly staff are one reason I keep coming back. They are consistent with checking in on your, making sure you're happy with the food (which always comes out fast), and are genuine in their interactions. I've ordered several different plates off the menu and have not been disappointed yet. read more

I've been coming here for a few years. I love the newer location. It's much more upbeat, lively, and welcoming than some others I've been in. I like that the staff actually talk to me before getting straight to taking my order. I also like that other servers will ask how I'm doing when it's busy to be sure everything is good. A lot of the dishes are more authentic. I got the Carne Asada tacos once and have a hard time getting away from them. I'll be a customer for life. read more

One of our favorite places in town! The food is always fresh - and delicious. The service is excellent and their staff is very friendly.

This place puts unpeeled shrimp in their molcajete dish and the manager stands behind it. There's no fun like digging unpeeled shrimp out of a hot soup like dish so you can peel them and eat them... Also even though the menu advertises the dish coming with a side of fresh guacamole when I asked for it (it wasn't on the side plate) the waitress said it might be there but may have just disappeared in the lettuce.... read more

If you enjoy up charges on your bill and then being totally ignored when asking why there are extra charges, this is the place for you! Showed up at 7:40PM and told them we had a party of ten. Three hostesses shook their heads at us and refused to tell us anything. We saw THREE tables sections that would seat at least 10 and they refused to wait for the people in those sections to leave so we could be seated. As we were waiting they kept seating the people waiting behind us at those sections that if they just held even one we could give them our business. After the fourth hostess showed up and shook her head we left and took our business to Fiesta Grill. Fiesta Grill IMMEDIATELY starting moving tables together and by the time the last of our party drove over from Monterreys we were seated. read more

I really really enjoyed the food here. I had the shrimp and the chunky guacamole and it was perfect. Everybody at the table ordered something different and everybody enjoyed it immensely. The place was clean and the Decour was sassy. The only reason I give it four stars is because the service was kind of lackadaisical . I had to get our a menus and then I had to ask for silverware and they didn't really seem to care. The service wasn't bad per se they just were kind about there. Food was great though and I will go back. read more

Meh, it's definitely better than some of the other Mexican restaurants, but it was pretty sub-par.

Monterreys is quickly becoming my favorite Mexican place in Clemson. They moved to this location within the past year. The plaza they were in before was demolished to make room for more apartments. I really like what they've done with the place, it actually used to be another Mexican restaurant. Anyways I've been to the new location 3 times now. When you sit down they serve you chips and salsa. They are very quick to refill as well. In general, service has been fantastic. Food has been served fast and hot. I always order the el especial. For $12 this meal is huge. Served on 2 full size plates you get a taco, burrito, enchilada, chile relleno, beans and rice. They have allowed me to swap out beef for chicken. I always leave very full and content, what more is there to ask. Sure I've had some better quality Mexican food but for the price this place is spot on. read more
