We stopped in backstreets for quick snack. I did take the opportunity to read some reviews and it's not a five-star restaurant guys. It is a bar that has a lot of mileage on it that serves a decent Sammy. Located up the hill from Clemsons main drag, this place has been around since the beginning of time and it shows it. Not in a bad way. When we walked in we went to the host stand and the fellow working there took our order and then said pick a booth. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich with tater tots my wife got a club Sammy and fries, and daughter got the BLT. It's a bar. They serve bar food. Set your expectations accordingly. When it's warmer it looks like the patio looks like a cool place to be and you can bring your dog! Not every place is a five-star restaurant. The food seemed decent was prepared well and served hot. It's just not a first choice for me. read more

Backstreets is a typical college dive bar- with darts, pool, and of course the random signage hanging on the walls. They have several different beer options- both on tap or in the can. A popular thing they have is the litchers- which are pitchers of liquor. However beware of the litchers as they can be quite sweet. The food here is pretty decent- I love their wings, the doobie wrap, and the buffalo chicken sandwich. They have 3 different potato option- sweet potato fries, regular fries, or tots. It would be a zero star rating, but they do have a good burger - can't complain about that, so they get a star. They also get the second star because I like the outside space, the up and down stairs option, the decor, and artwork. But they lose three stars because when I left a $0 tip for a bartender that I felt didn't deserve a tip, he gave himself a $100 tip with my credit card. Basically, I asked for two rumple shots, one for myself and one for my friend that just turned 21. When he handed me two half-poured shots, I asked as nicely as I could if he could "add a leeettle bit more please?" To which his response was, "You wanna pay for another shot?!" I noticed he was offended by this I told him to forget about it and I disengaged with him. He was yelling at me because he's "been here for 5 years" and "measures out all his shots". I really didn't care, I was ready to get my card back and go outside. I decided to leave him a rare $0 tip and the next week when I went to pay my credit card bill I had a charge for $114. WHAT?! So anyways, they did refund me, which is why I had to leave them with two stars today. I could go in there and identify which employee this was, but I don't really care to. So before going I was told this place had the best wings in the area. Read as many reviews as I could find and was surprised at the mix. My husband (not a wing man) thought the burger was very good and the fryes were great. The three others of us had a wing mix of 36 wet, dry, mixed seasonings wings. Hands down the best! Flat or drum, moist, tender, and still crispy! So pleasantly surprised! Will be back next week. Several reviews also bashed service? We had excellent service! Ambiance? Its a very fun college bar even if you are no longer in college or have graduated many years ago. read more

This is your typical college bar. A bar, pool tables, a bar, darts, a bar, food. Now, we ordered drinks, of course, the usual cranberry and Tito's, and the kid ordered a grilled cheese. Now, this is not your normal mama made at home grilled cheese. This is a big ole cheese filled sandwich. With FRIED cheese sticks. We are taking an appetizer on Texas toast. This thing was ginormous. Tater tots on the side with marinara sauce. This sandwich is a thing of beauty. Oh yeah, they have specials such as Tuesday Tender night and Wednesday Wing night. If you know there is a huge football game coming up, how about making sure you have enough staff to keep your business running!!! The Sunday after the game, we arrived around noon. Sat down at a table, a waiter finally showed up to ask us what we wanted to drink FORTY FIVE minutes later. After several of us had asked the server to come over and that we were ready to order everything. I get it, it was busy. We let that slide. As he finally takes our order, he says they are out of the Doobie --which is what I showed up for in the first place. In fact they were out of all of the wraps. Thanks for mentioning that earlier, guy!!! We didn't come to backstreets for burgers. We could have just waited at loose instead. After ordering whatever was left on the menu, ten minutes later he comes back and says oh by the way the kitchen is backed up another hour and a half. Wow no thanks, some of us had flights to catch eventually that afternoon. So we cancelled our orders and left. A whole two hours later and still hungry. On top of that, the manager didn't seem to care about how piss poor the service was. All he said was "well look how small my kitchen is..." Cool. This is the BEST bar / casual restaurant. The food is always delicious and the service is great. Even on crowded gamedays or on Friday and Saturday nights (or kicking you out when they close), they are courteous. Fun place to hang out inside and watch a game, but our favorite place is outside on the deck (there's upstairs and downstairs decks!). Great way to enjoy a nice day with a burger and a beer. Stopped in at this local's hangout (no college students in sight). Upstairs was very nice and bright, tall tables with padded bottoms and backs, and a 75 cents pooltable (with really weird bumpers, so when banking your shots, they don't really do what they are suppose to do). Nice staff. Bathrooms clean. Nice drinks - real glasses, real free pour. No food, but it looked and smelled good what I saw. The bottom (former "private club for the locals" was strange. The bathrooms had mildew all over - basically washed my hands and ran out out of there and straight outside. read more

I travel quite a bit and I like to visit places that have had some sort of "buzz" about them. Well, a few years ago, I saw that the idiot owner of this place decided that instead of respecting the rights of Americans and simply posting some sort of "No Weapons Allowed" sign on his establishment, he decided to be degrading and present his ignorance in its fullest by posting a very demeaning and really pathetic sign, calling gun owners "d-bags". My table was not clean, covered in garbage and tableware from the last patrons. The entire staff looked liked they had suffered the loss of a loved one, not friendly and seemed like they hated working there. Food was greasy and my burger was extremely undercooked, asked if they could make me another one as the one I had was leaking blood. Looks like they just took the patty out and cooked it till it was black and put it back on the bun which was still covered in raw meat juice. The owner is also extremely rude. I love backstreets. In college I probably ended up there more than any other bar in Clemson. The drinks are cheap enough all night, but the happy hour deals are awesome. They've got pizza nights tuesdays and you can get a large one topping and a pitcher of bud family draft for around 10 bucks. The bartenders and bouncers are all cool guys too. read more

Stopped in with Brent P while visiting from out of town locals recommended this place not sure why!? Guess there are not many options in the area for a quick lunch between classes... Unfortunately. I had better MRE meals in the sandbox then the cold greasy plate they called a cheeseburger and fries. It would not have been too bad if I could get someone to bring me a beer and wash the slop down with but that was asking for too much service. The onset of diarrhea and stomach cramps is a good reason to not go to this place again. We were recommended here by some locals (Not that there is much option in the area). We ordered CBR chicken sandwich and good old BLT. The food were meh, the service is ok, but the obnoxious younger crowd were unacceptable. I had to peel some of the 'bad' tomato from my sandwich, while her BLT was soaked with vinegar (pickle?). Keep in mind, we were really hungry, that should be an automatic 2 yelp stars minimum no matter how bad the food was. We cut lunch short when I got beer splashed on my shirt from the obnoxious crowd. We complained, but nothing was done. The good news is that Mellow Shroom is just down the street.
