We've been coming here for my birthday dinner for the past three years, so unfortunately this experience was extremely disappointing. We were there for an hour and a half, and watched people who arrived 30 minutes after us receive their food before we did. We never heard the specials, our food sat under the heat lamp for quite a while, and we only saw our server a handful of times. Our drinks were left empty for an extended period of time, and when our food finally came out, it was incorrect. The potato was also severely undercooked. For a $150 meal, this was honestly unacceptable. We spent that much money expecting good food and decent service, and we got neither. What makes it even more disappointing is that this has been a birthday tradition for us for the past three years. We expected the same level of service and quality we've experienced in the past, but unfortunately that was not the case tonight. The service was crap, the food was disappointing, and the overall experience completely took away from what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner. A historical restaurant tucked just outside the main downtown strip. It's set in a very old house with charming, period décor that adds to the experience. The food was excellent--we ordered the fish and the chicken, and both were outstanding. Definitely a place we'd return to. read more

Food was delicious. Spinach salad was great as was the ahi tuna starter. We also thoroughly enjoyed the Medici shrimp pasta dish and the prime rib and lobster. Prime rib was wonderful but lobster not easy to get out of tail. Our server, Shannon, was attentive and bar drinks were quick and well done. Only thing that keeps me from giving it 5 stars is the plastic table cloths. Those did diminish the experience, particularly when they were sprayed to be cleaned at the table next to us. read more

Visited Clemson for a school tour and had dinner at Calhoun Corners. Restaurant was crowded but service was excellent. Nice looking place with country-ish charm. Well made cocktails. Tuna sashimi and escargot appetizers were great. My dining companion had a salmon special that was very tasty. I had the filet mignon and shrimp in a tasty sauce. Knocked down to 4 stars because I ordered medium rare and the steak was closer to medium well. Prices are reasonable (compared to what I'm used to in New Jersey). Overall a positive experience. Husband is 1982 alumni - been coming to Clemson for years - and 2 kids currently at Clemson. Been to CC so many times I cannot count for celebrations and games- usually with great experiences. That is obviously over! Went Friday night and went to bar and bartender immediately said, "I am just telling you now it will be 20 minutes minimum before I get to you".... Not "I am backed up- pls be patient". Then he immediately went to people beside us and asked what they were having to drink. My husband and I were stunned!Husband asked if wanted to stay and shockingly I got up and left- so shocked! So disappointed that one of our favorite places is now not! Stopped by Calhoun Corners on a cold Thursday night and we were charmed. From the exposed brick to the wood beams, the place has been beautifully restored. Plus, we got to warm up by the fire place! We loved the she crab soup and the seared sea scallops. My boyfriend had the duck while I went with the Medici shrimp and Parmesan pasta. Both were delicious! Super solid experience tonight. Started slow, no server for too long to even get us started once we were seated, so we had to go back to front desk n someone immediately came over. Isabelle was top notch, couldn't have been better from start to finish. Our meals were all very good. My fave was the shrimp and lobster Newberg, the lamb was a hit for someone needing Gluten Free. Jambalaya was thouroughly enjoyed. Lots of beef choices with nice sauces. Portions were decent, no complaints. Prices reflect the current food market, it's a celebratory place for us, wouldn't be in the normal rotation. But we need a place to take guests when they visit right? Service was very good but it seemed like I ate a mouthful of salt with each bite of my salmon. My wife didn't enjoy and once we got the bill, we determined that it would be our last visit. Really nice atmosphere with brick walls upstairs and smaller rooms downstairs. Our waitress was good and made sure not to put our order in to early since we wanted to chat and have our drinks and apps. We started with the goat cheese-ricotta crostini which has a nice flavor from the cheese and tomato and caramelized onion. Also, had the escargot Florentine which didn't wow me. I prefer to give good reviews when they are earned, However Underwhelming was a word I need to use. Let's start with service. Seemed like they'd rather be somewhere else. Started with water.. asked for water with lime for both of us. Came out dumped on the table and ran away, no lime.. ok minor, later came to refill waters, did my wife's glass and as I stood there with my half empty glass in hand...he walked away. The meals, at these premium prices, expect a premium meal, small duck breast, large helping of a some what overdone risotto, and just enough vegetables to add color to the corner of the plate. Swing and a close miss, a bit more attention to the risotto, slightly larger duck helping and a slightly larger helping of vegetables would have gone a long way to make this better. Duck was good but not a memorable flavor or tenderness. The duck Bricket looked more like frozen patty than a fresh breast. What this place has going for it is the nice old building with the exposed brick. They need to up the dishes and servers need to pay better attention. read more

This place has amazing food! Everything we ate was delicious. I got the seafood trio, amazing flavor. My husband got the lamb he also loved it. They bring out delicious bread to start was so good. We didn't try dessert this time because we had plans for dessert after but would like to next time. My only complaints are that it took a little over 20 minutes for someone to come to our table and serve us, and we didn't get full. After two loaves of bread and our entrees we were content but not per say full. We tried to order the stuffed mushrooms but they said they had chives in them they couldn't remove so we didn't get to try them (my husband dislikes onions). I'm from Charlotte area travel into this area. Went for nice dinner and the prime rib was over done and the lobster was over done. The kitchen couldn't do anything for us. We made a reservation arrived on time grabbed a drink at the bar service was great the dining not so much. Took 42 min to get drinks at our table we spent over 2.5 hours I held my two children asleep for over a hour. We ordered the beef Wellington the filet and the salmon with a variety of appetizers. This was the biggest disappointment. Over cooked under seasoned on all dishes. the Wellington was covered in a over amount of puff pastry and the meat was the color of pot roast this is a dish that is tuff to master and they just underperformed on all accounts. Salmon was dry escargot, was what seemed to be boiled in olive oil and onions no garlic or Parmesan to be seen. even the Cesar salad was bland, oh and the jambalaya was sweet with apples and dry chunks of chicken and sun-dried tomatoes and absolute no no on so may accounts. Prices are not terrible though 6 people came in around 400 bucks. They definitely have their favorite they catered to is pretty apparent. Again great venue with good drinks, food and service really is sub par in my option my suggestion try a burger and have a drink don't wast money on the steaks Texas road house has a better steak and that's not saying a lot. read more

Fantastic celebratory meal for a graduation. This was our first visit and I really hope it won't be the last. Everything was perfect, from the service to the bread to the main entrees we ordered. I got the filet with blue crab (called the imperial filet) and it was AMAZING. The steak was one of the best I've ever had.... and that is saying a lot because I'm a very picky steak eater :) I normally eat my steak with a little A1 or horseradish but it would have been a shame to do so with this one. We had to take our son back to school on his birthday! But it turned into a pleasant night because of dinner at Calhoun Corners. A Monday night before everyone gets back on campus is a great time to enjoy the atmosphere there. You are in an old house that had partially burned down, but the mix of new and old - brick and regular wall - makes the place very unique. It was very nicely decorated for Christmas too. We had a party of 5, and three of us ordered the rib eye, my daughter ordered the Filet and my wife ordered the Seafood Trio. The food was delicious and apart from a couple of carrots left on the kid's plates, everything else was devoured. The steaks were cooked perfectly. The service was warm and friendly and drinks were refilled quickly. I think most of the staff is students, so at a fine dining place, it was nice to get good, quality service. For his birthday, they gave him a free choice on the dessert menu, he chose the Snickers pie. Two others of us chose the creme brulee cheesecake. He really enjoyed the pie, but the cheesecake was outstanding. It had the caramelized crust from the sugar being melted on top and underneath was a rich cheesecake. Both desserts were served with homemade whipped cream which was also fantastic. We've been to restaurants on Parent's Weekend and on game days that are mobbed, so finding a nice, relaxing dinner was a welcome change, even though I'm sure Calhoun Corners gets swamped during those times as well. I would highly recommend and we will be going back as there is a wide range of items on the menu I'd like to try. The Grecian-spiced grilled lamb chops sounded very tasty. read more

I simply called to pay for my sister and nephews's dinner once they were done, as it was a surprise for her birthday. The lady that answered the phone was much to be desired and told me "they didn't have time" to call me when the bill was ready be delivered to the table for payment. I told her I didn't see where it should be an issue, her short response was "it was an issue". I asked to speak to the manager, where she too told me "they were too busy" to call me with the bill for me to pay over the phone. I have called several times to restaurants in downtown Charleston, known for their tourism and packed restaurants year round, for the same reason with responses of "we would be happy to do that for you". The lack of professionalism by the staff at Calhoun Corners is quite sad and disheartening. My parents have taken my sister and I to dine here multiple times while attending Clemson, we have had a college reunion here as well, and to continue the tradition, my sister was taking my nephew, as he is now at Clemson to experience the restaurant. The customer service is horrible and we will not be back nor recommend due to this situation. I hope that the Corontzes family has the opportunity to read this review and choose to hire better suited food and beverage staff for this type of establishment.
