    Lump crabcake appetizer
    Jim W.

Absolutely delicious meal, and a great evening being taken care of our "host" Phil! The lump crabcake appetizer was outstanding, and that's coming from a couple that lived in Baltimore for 15 years, Phil promised we would not be disappointed and we were not. For entrées, we had a perfectly cooked fillet mignon and the scallops on risotto (as a substitute for the okra at Phil's suggestion) was absolutely delicious. For dessert, we tried the Tres Leches cake , which was some of the best we've ever had, unlike many that are soaking wet, this was a delightfully light cake, and a giant piece easy to share. We will absolutely be returning the next time we are in town!

Went here for an anniversary dinner celebration! Our waiter was so kind and attentive. I ordered the mushroom ravioli and he told me to add blackened chicken, totally worth it! He seemed very knowledgeable of the menu and even recommended drinks for us! We shared the she crab soup. Then my boyfriend got the steak! Mashed potatoes were okay but the broccoli was good!! Would totally go again. The restaurant wasn't very romantic or decorated very nicely but the food was worth it!

Wondering what to do M-F from 4-6? Well wonder no more - you're going to Larkin's to enjoy the best happy hour deals. $5 martinis with a $12 plate of steak frites? Say no more. Service at the bar is touch and go with some being more attentive than others. The outside is lovely with fire pits, but the bar really is my favorite spot.

Nice place with good she crab soup and sea bass but that was it. Atmosphere was nice and service was attentive.

Wouldn't recommend this place, let me break it up: We went for happy hour on a very warm day, since we were bringing our dog, they offered us a table on the patio. It was sunny and 83 degrees outside, they had some umbrellas next to the tables but the one they offered us was still sunny so when we asked for a different table with more shade, our host simply left us he had a terrible attitude. There was a discrepancy between what the menu said and what we got charged for. Menu stated that during happy hour the oysters are $1, but they were actually $2. We were charged $6 for martinis that should have been $5, and the menu items were meant to be half price, but they were charged full price for a couple of them. Although I don't think pricing is excessive, you shouldn't say one thing on your menu and charge something else entirely different. The food was ok--nothing particularly noteworthy. The steak frites were the best so far; the meat was juicy, soft, and tasty. The calamari was good too, but there was a hair on them.

Nice location with deceptively large number of seating. I had a large group and we had plenty of room in the terrace area which can get loud. The service was good and the food was fine although the portions are small. Sea bass was tasty although the steaks were apparently dry.

Happy hour menu as of 12/23

Went for happy hour as the deals are terrific. $1 oysters and 1/2 price appetizers! Deals on certain drinks .. oysters were great. Also they served spinach artichoke dip with potato chips because they ran out of pita/ nacho chips...it was odd and didn't go together that well. My dirty martini.was so so...it was " clear dirty mix".. I would NOT order this again.. it was like salty vodka .. not even that cold and no blue cheese olives... Super clean ..and we timed this right on Christmas vacation week so it was not that busy. Just watch what you order!

The ew location is definitely not as romantic as their former site along the falls. However, the contemporary layout is still gorgeous. Stays busy so be syre you make reservations.

Larkin's burnt salmon (served to my mom)

A Father's Day Fiasco at Larkin's - A Meal Best Forgotten What was supposed to be a celebratory Father's Day brunch turned into a two-hour culinary trainwreck, thanks to the bafflingly bad service and dismal food at Larkin's (32 E Broad St, Greenville, SC). We arrived full of excitement but left full of regret. From the moment we walked in at 11:15 a.m., the experience was a slow descent into disaster. It took two full hours for my parents to get through a meal that was barely edible and certainly not enjoyable. No wonder the waiter never told us his name. The waiter seemed lost in a fog of confusion. When I ordered shrimp and grits (clearly listed on the brunch menu), he confidently told me it was a dinner item. I had to show him where it was printed under 'Brunch', only to be met with a blank stare and a half-hearted excuse. Things only went downhill from there. My father's simple request for steak, mashed potatoes, and vegetables turned into a tragic comedy of errors. First, after putting in our orders, the waiter came back about thirty minutes later and said there were "no potatoes of any kind, except fries". LOL ... fine. My dad settled for steak and vegetables. Another twenty minutes later, our server returned to let us know there were no vegetables either. What arrived instead (after patiently waiting over an hour) was huge plate with a burnt hunk of meat and a side of nothing! This is what Larkins served my wonderful dad for Father's Day! His plate was a dry and joyless as our experience turned out to be. And my mother's meal? A beet salad with salmon that looked like it had been fished straight from a bonfire and placed on top of a bed of wilted weeds. Apparently, someone in the kitchen thought it was clever to plate the burnt side down, as though we wouldn't notice their presentation trend. We did. It was shameful, for the waiter, the kitchen staff, and Larkin's management. Any place that serves food this carelessly and with such little regard for their guests should be embarrassed to call itself a restaurant. We came to Larkin's expecting a warm, memorable brunch with family. What we got instead was the kind of meal that makes you want to write a scathing review. So here it is. The only silver lining? Asking for the check and having it arrive swiftly so we could make our escape and find a restaurant that respects its guests and knows the difference between a delicious food and burnt offerings.

The location on Main Street (in the former Lemongrass space, I believe) is charming and comfortable, though seating can feel a bit tight unless you're lucky enough to get a booth. The atmosphere is lively but intimate. Food-wise, the salad and entrées were very good, and service was attentive throughout the evening. That said, I did leave slightly underwhelmed given the expectations that come with a Michelin-starred restaurant. One small surprise was seeing entrées served with fries as a standard--it felt a bit more casual than anticipated. Overall, it was a nice dining experience and worth trying, especially if you're into Michelin-recognized spots.

I plan for a big budget meal and am never disappointed. I must say that this experience was totally different, but just as amazing in its own way. My friend was having a work luncheon upstairs and we showed up at the end for her coworkers to meet her baby that we had in tow. We hadn't eaten yet so while they continued on to the next part of their gettogether, we snagged a table at the bar for a quick lunch. We shared the prime rib sliders and a bowl of the French onion soup. The soup was loaded with crispy onion strings on top and tons of caramelized onions down below. The prime rib sliders something I didn't realize I'd be dreaming about later. They were like the tastiest mini cheesesteaks and I could eat a platter of them if given the opportunity. It's great to see Halls from a different perspective and not as only a $500 dinner. This was the least I've ever spent at Halls but I still had an amazing experience. I need to get them on my regular lunch rotation in Charleston so I can try more of the menu.

That's why what happened this past Valentine's weekend was so disappointing. We had a 6:30 reservation and arrived at 6:25 to find the entire entryway completely packed. We understand it was Valentine's weekend and expected it to be busy, but this felt beyond busy -- it felt significantly overbooked. After finally checking in, we headed to the bar. The bartender was clearly overwhelmed (through no fault of her own), and it took about 20 minutes just to get a drink. Despite having a reservation, we weren't seated until a little after 7:30 -- over an hour wait. That is simply unheard of when you have a confirmed reservation. The only reason we stayed was because it was Valentine's Day and we knew getting in anywhere else would have been nearly impossible. The wait staff was apologetic and kind, which we genuinely appreciated because it was obvious the situation wasn't their fault. Unfortunately, the overbooking also impacted the kitchen, and our food took a long time to arrive. We didn't leave until 10:30 p.m., which is excessive for a 6:30 reservation. What was most disappointing was that there was no acknowledgment from management beyond verbal apologies from staff -- no small gesture, no complimentary glass of wine, no discount. The evening felt like a case of overbooking at the expense of both customers and employees. We hope lessons are learned from this. We've loved this restaurant for years, but we will not be returning on Valentine's Day again. It definitely left a bad taste in our mouths.

The Earl Grey tea bread was good, but too sweet for me (not a sweets person). My friends ordered the chicken tamales and berry French toast, respectively, and enjoyed their meal. For me, the menu didn't have anything that caught my eye, so I made a meal of the small plates. I love mushrooms, but I felt that the mushrooms in the bruschetta needed to be chopped. Their meaty texture and large pieces made it less than desirable, even though the flavor was good. The oysters were well-cooked and served in an ample portion, but with cocktail sauce rather than aioli. When asked, she brought me the paprika aioli that's on the Brussels sprouts. Still, I think a lemon-and-herb aioli or a lemon-and-horseradish aioli would have been more appropriate for a fresh brightness to cut through the breading. It was almost a good meal, but oftentimes the devil is in the details.
