For example my sone and I both had SMOKED BRISKET GNOCCHI which is smoked brisket, with a amazing selection of sautéed wild mushrooms with caramelized onions tossed in gnocchi with a superb smoked gouda cream sauce... I'm going to bet that you encounter this in about 1. out of every 100,000 Italian Restaurants. We started the meal with Baked Brie wrapped in pastry covered in hot honey with fig preserves. Just simply good food. This was an amazing experience. Make your reservations now. The family got together to celebrate Mama Bs 80th birthday. This restaurant and their staff made us soooo happy. Everyone enjoyed their food which tasted like heaven. Dessert was amazing to it was strawberry brûlée which you must have. Our waiter "Joe" aka Joseph was more than knowledgeable and delightfully funny. This restaurant has the best aesthetic. Intimate but classy even down to the wallpaper in the bathroom. I've been there several times and had a good experience, however, this time was not good at all. The menu is very small and expensive. Ribeye $85, (more than Ruth Chris, and much thinner cut) I got a vegetarian meal with scallops, and both the butternut squash and scallops were undercooked. My son got a pork chop and it was tough, and accompanied by some gross chutney. I feel bad writing such a bad review, but I feel like they are taking advantage of being the only restaurant in town that has decent food.(formally) Also, server was not personable. Made a last minute reservation for 5 people. Reservation was at 7:30pm but didn't get seated until 8pm (again no complaints as I made this reservation at 3pm same day - just a note) But from the time we sat and until we left everything was wonderful. Laurie was our waiter and she couldn't have been any more accommodating. She was professional and still maintained a great personality. We never needed anything as she met our needs even before we needed them! lol Great job Laurie The food was perfect. We had 3 appetizers ranging from Brie to Calamari to Scallops. All wonderful Our dinner entrees ranged from the chicken to two filets (cooked perfectly) to the Salmon. Again perfect. Another great restuarant on our trip to Lake Keowee. Joe was our waiter and gave us great service. The food is immaculate and so tasty. Great steak and pasta dishes.... We had the chicken & andouille sausage pasta and this was a tasty dinner. The salads are huge too and so many choices of great salads. We had the Bacon & Bleu Salad and the Heirloom Tomato salads. Their wine selections are EXCELLENT with an extensive list that includes French, Italian, Argentinian, Calif and others. We enjoyed a French Can Franc. Dessert... omg. Btw, while the wine list is very good, you can BYOB that special bottle for a minimal corkage fee. One of the most outstanding things about Vangeli's is the seasonally changing menu. The food is outstanding (compliments to the chef), prepared and served with attention to detail and taste. So good that you'll want to go back to experience the other delicious offerings. Ambiance is right on par with an upscale feel enhanced at times with live music fitting for the surroundings. I recommend anything here, especially the steaks, pasta dishes and excellent salads. Went there on a date night with my wife to experience the new menu sent to me and on the website. When we arrived only one dinner was on the menu from the website. Needless to say very disappointing. When asked the manager she knew nothing about the menu on the website. There was nothing on the daily menu that was at all interesting for us. The manager said the next time we come in she would give us a gift certificate. Needless to say we left and will not be back. Went to Pixies and Bills and had a great meal at a much reduced price. Came here on a whim, and I was not disappointed! I ordered a Delicious pasta dish with eggplant, tomato, spinach, and feta cheese! It was drizzled with fresh made olive oil and fresh pasta! Incredibly filling and delicious. Also ordered the S'mores sundae. I LOVE S'mores! It's by far my favorite summer time dessert when I saw this on the menu I knew I needed it for nostalgia sake! The marshmallow was perfectly toasted and the chocolate wasn't painfully sweet. My date ordered the strawberry brulee. Initially, we thought this was a creme brulee with strawberries on top OR a strawberry flavored creme brulee. Turns out it was just strawberries that were bruleed. In town for a bike ride-Issaqueenas Last Ride. Stopped in on Saturday night, fairly crowded but quickly seated. Service was speedy and attentive. Food was was very good. Last night we celebrated our anniversary at Vangeli's. It was our first visit since they remodeled/reopened. WOW - what a treasure! Every detail has been thought of. Our server, Evan was very chatty and professional. We both had the She Crab soup in lieu of a garden salad - it just may have been the BEST I've ever had. Both of us ordered steaks - one strip steak and one filet - both prepared Pittsburgh style. We lived for several years IN Pittsburgh and did not know the history of how the "style" even came to be - that tidbit of info came to us via our server!! Who knew spinach and asparagus, which I'm not a huge fan of, could be cooked so perfectly. And if they offer roasted potatoes - do give them a try - tender quarters of red potato with just a hint of maple - yum yum yum.
