I use to take all our cars to Rich's for service and would tell everyone how great their service and prices are. My last two experiences were questionable, but I brushed them off. I had an AC compressor replaced 2 years ago and it went bad again. Called to see if they could look at it and they want $275 just to look at it. Sorry, but I am done. Called in this morning, was in on Friday for a front end brake job. Came out, and drove my car less than 5 miles down the road and had smoke coming off my brakes. Called them to see if there was anything they could help me out with, and instead of trying to help out I was told I was SOL and it wasn't their problem even though they'd just worked on it. Apparently Rich decided to stop caring about repeat business. Going to Delaware Auto from now on. Can't even drive my car now. Thanks guys! Trust the negative reviews. The absolute reluctance and defensive nature of the employees to take any semblance of responsibility for an issue that is potentially their fault. Quite an audacious business to turn away potential repeat business in a small town over a problem that would more than likely cost less than $100 to fix for them if found it was an issue they caused. read more

Don't ignore the negative reviews - there's a pattern here... While I've never posted a public review in my life, the unprofessionalism and poor treatment we experienced the last few days as customers of Rich's Auto has been astounding. Typically when I see a company with mostly good reviews and a handful of negative ones, I give the them the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to a customer misunderstanding, bad timing or some kind of unfortunate anomaly. Regretfully, that's not the case here and the proof is in the customer testimonials. See ours below: Our car had front brake pads and rotors replaced on Friday. We took off of work early, picked up the car around 4:30 and headed out. Not even 10mi down the road we had to do an emergency stop and pull over with smoking, failing front brakes. Our family came to pick us up, but we had to leave our car stranded in a random parking lot and wait for Rich's to open on Monday. We called Monday, explained what happened (we thought the calipers were locked up) and asked about next steps, assuming that they would at least want to do a second inspection. Upon hearing the word "caliper," the front desk worker immediately said that calipers are a "secondary part failure" and that Rich's wasn't responsible. When we tried to describe the situation further, he asked "what are you seeking" as if we were trying to be difficult or take advantage of them. He explained we could bring the car back in, but we'd have to pay for everything - calipers and new pads/rotors (if damaged), because it wasn't their fault. When we explained that the brakes were so bad we were afraid we'd get into an accident, he replied with "that's quite the accusation." Frustrated, we ended the conversation, as it clearly wasn't going anywhere productive. We called back this morning and were told there was no one else we could speak with other than the front desk worker we spoke to the previous day. We were told that his boss was on maternity leave and therefore no one else was available. We asked if our issue could be sent to the owner, they agreed, but said it would probably still be the front desk guy that would follow up. At no point was there much acknowledgement or empathy for the frustration, wasted time/money or the scare it gave us. Their website says that auto repairs are backed by a guarantee, but when it came down to it, we had to look out for ourselves, only to be told that we can deal with the parts' manufacturers ourselves for warranty issues or pay for all new parts/service. It's not that a part failed. It's the reluctance to even consider that the responsibility could be on them. If the idea is that our caliper failed on its own ~immediately~ after front brake service, then it's only fair to expect that the shop would take a second look to make sure there wasn't an oversite. Staff trained with an initial response of "it happens" and "it's not our fault" isn't right. There are reviews on here very similar to ours - a huge red flag and one that the family owned company should view as a critical opportunity for development. You'll also notice that none of the negative google reviews have replies from Rich's, but the good ones have been sifted through and added to the company's site. We still don't know what the cause of the brake issue is or who's responsible, but as customers, we expect the businesses we work with to do their due diligence when things go wrong. This may seem like an insignificant repair to care this much about, but $400 holds a lot of value, especially in today's market and it's unsettling to feel like you're only a credit card number away from being a sale and not a customer. If you're doing right, you talk to your customers with respect and treat their time, money and concerns like you would your own. You explain risks, processes and potential issues ahead of time and you don't get defensive or inflammatory when faced with questions or uncertainty. As a small, local business, please don't expect your community to support you if you don't support them. Do better. read more

Rich's Autocare is an honest shop that has great prices. I have been taking all of my cars there for years for routine maintenance. They usually are 50% cheaper than the Lexus dealer. They have saved me money by letting me know an issue was covered by a Toyota recall. So I was able to have Toyota fix for free. They also have a oil change card deal where the 6th one is free. read more

I dropped the car off for two tires to be replaced and an alignment done. They dropped me off at home which was very nice since it was going to be most of the day. I picked up the car and honestly didn't even look at the wheels or tires just assumed the new ones were on and everything was good-to-go. Went to pull out of their parking lot and as I am turning right my hand catches on something jagged/rough on the steering wheel. As I straighten up I look and the steering wheel has a big scratch/gouge in the leather right on the top. You can't miss it. Never ever there before. Nice. Pull in my driveway 3 miles away and take 3-4 pics and email them. I go inside still wondering how it happened and thought you know I probably should go out and look at the wheels since most likely the same person did them. Sure enough, the clear-coat was pulled back on one and the aluminum was pushed-back / rolled over in a spot on the other. Neither wheel had any prior curb damage or anything like that so I again took pics and emailed them over separately. Here is the response I got via email: "I'm sorry to hear about your concerns. Our alignment equipment is not attached to the steering wheel or wheels in the way/location you are describing. Unfortunately, if you can not provide recent photos prior to service we will not take liability for any damage you believe we created." Not, I'm sorry you feel something happened while your car was in our possession can you bring it back so I can see it in-person and we can talk about it? Not, I saw your photos let me talk to my technician and see if he can shed any light on things and I will call you immediately. Not, can I please call you right away to discuss this because I want to make sure I understand what I'm seeing before I talk to my technician. None of that. Nothing. All I got was unless you can somehow prove we did it we didn't do anything wrong so sorry about your luck. Oh, and this is Brett the Service Manager btw. So I called. Explained everything in more detail and at no point in the conversation did Brett even pretend to care about them damaging my car. All he kept repeating was "Well, if you didn't take any pics of it recently showing the damages weren't there we don't have anything to talk about". Matter-of-fact as can be. Sorry Brett I don't take pics of my car on a weekly basis and I didn't know I had to to have two tires put on. No matter how this ends up being resolved DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. Big job, little job, just don't do it. But if you are stranded and absolutely have to, take as many pictures as you possibly can. Even on areas they aren't working on. Like your steering wheel. You will thank me later. Maybe enough of you will be able to respond with "Why yes Brett I do have pictures I just took yesterday thanks to this review I read and I will send them right over". Once they have to start paying for damages they cause maybe things will change. It's only a one star because of the ride home. Worst "Customer service" ever. read more

I took my truck in because the check engine light came on and it was not running smoothly. They changed the spark plugs and a couple gaskets and charged me $800. I went to pick it up and when I started driving home the check engine light came back on. I took it back in and they told me they had made a mistake it was actually the catalytic converter's that needed replaced. It was going to be $5000. If I had known this from the beginning I would never have put the $800 into changing the spark plugs and cylinders because that wasn't even the real issue. They never offered a refund or even a discount. Not only is eight hundred dollars WAY too much to replace spark plugs and a cylinder or two , their business is shady and they're obviously just trying to make as much money as they can at the buyers expense. We have been taking our cars to Rich's for the past ten years or so and we have not had a single bad experience. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. This prices have always been fair - much less expensive than the dealership - and they take the time to talk through what repairs are necessary now and what can wait until later. There have been a few times over the years when we needed to take a car back after a repair and they have honored their warranty every time. I highly recommend Rich's. read more

Extremely disappointed with their service. Had been searching for a shop that would be honest, open, fair, and competent and thought they fit the bill. Took my first car in, got a quote, and their final repair was almost double the quote. I figured, okay, honest mistake, at least it's repaired. Took in my wife's van on a pre-vacation inspection and repair of a sliding door that wasn't opening. I also wanted an inspection to ensure the van would make the long trip. Before going to pick it up, the mechanic let me know that everything was fine and we were good to go. They couldn't find one problem with the van after repair of the sliding door. Instead of everything being fine, the repair visit has turned into an unmitigated disaster! They missed a brake light that was out. Okay, small problem, but a red flag. Second item: went to pick up the car and the battery was completely dead. COMPLETELY. It wouldn't even start in their parking lot! They then indicated that the battery might have been running due to the door being off during repairs. Turns out that they had left the dome lights on all night, and ran the 1.5 year old battery completely dead. This ruined the battery and the alternator. We have since had to replace the battery and are getting ready to replace the alternator now. OH! And to top it all off, I took the car in with one working door and one broken door, and when we got it back, the other door NEVER opened again. We picked up the van in the same condition but opposite doors. My visit to this shop has caused me nothing but problems. If you're looking for an honest, competent, and fair place to go for car repair, keep looking. read more

We stopped by Rich's Auto Care and despite being understaffed and fully booked into the next week - they took time out of their busy day to help us. In my opinion this is not the Rich's Auto from 5 to 10 years ago. I used to see Rich and his wife when I went up there for auto work but I haven't seen them in the last couple years, I always got treated right by them, maybe they sold the shop and the name was kept. Anyway, i believe they are now finding things wrong with cars that don't need fixed and the last couple times I was running into over $2000 every trip up there and I gave them the benefit of the doubt due to our history. This time it was about $2900 including the estimate and they were saying things were wrong that I knew weren't true so I left without having them do the work so I could find out for myself if they were making stuff up. Brett is the one up front that will ring the register on you and charge you for things that don't need done. When I told him he was wrong he argued with me and said he right, LOL (which he wasn't). They also charged me almost $200 in a diagnoses fee of which is nonrefundable nor does it get applied to the work. Even though they didn't do the repair of an oil leak they changed the oil and charged me $80 on top of the $200 inspection fee. When I asked them why in world would he change the oil in a car that had an oil leak, Brett said something about topping it off in case I would come back to do the repairs. I said if you just topped it off why are you charging me for an oil change, he couldn't answer the question. Anyway out of the $2687 estimate here are the items that didn't need fixed; Oil pan gasket $552.74, Transmission oil cooler pipes $519.42, Door Panel $636, and door hinge $253.65. So the other shop fixed all my issues and I saved $1708.16 by not fixing things they didn't need fixed. The only leak was coming from the oil cooler line and not the 2 other spots. It didn't need a new door panel that Brett said was damaged by heat (which I knew wasn't true), it just needed a few door clips. It also didn't need a new door hinge just a little white lithium grease. I don't have a problem with a company making making but not by doing repairs that don't need done. You better know what your going up there to get fixed or get a few estimates if you don't want to get ripped off as they will seperate you and your money. Good luck read more

My family and I have been taking our cars to Rich's for years. The staff is incredibly nice and they really take care of our cars. Their service is convenient and pretty cheap. They are always honest and helpful about the work they do and never make me feel like a buffoon about my lack of car knowledge. My oil change this morning took less than 30 minutes and I sat inside their cozy office waiting room while they worked on my car. Plus, they have a reward system where you can get a free oil change every 5th oil change when you get your card punched! Would recommend to anyone! Love this place! read more
