I used to trust this company. A few years ago, I would have recommended them without hesitation, they were professional, efficient, and did quality work. That's why I called them again when my trees needed trimming. Unfortunately, this is no longer the same business. I had two mature, fruitless mulberry trees in my front yard and a large camphor tree on the side of my home. They were beautiful, well-established, and provided incredible shade, so much so that I barely needed to run my AC in the summer. They simply needed a proper trim. What I got instead was complete butchery. Scheduling was the first red flag. I was told someone would come out within a week or two, it took over a month, and only after multiple follow-up calls. When they finally showed up, it was with little notice: "We're on our way." No real communication, no planning. At first, the crew seemed fine, until I stepped outside and actually looked at what they had done. I was shocked. My trees were hacked down to stubs. Completely disfigured. It was so upsetting I literally cried. To make matters worse, they broke one of my handmade stepping stones. When I mentioned it to the owner, there was no apology, just a casual "a limb must've fallen on it." That alone tells you everything about their level of care and accountability. When I raised concerns about the trees, I was assured they would "look beautiful by spring." I waited before writing this review to give them the benefit of the doubt. It's now spring. The trees still look terrible. Instead of healthy regrowth, they're covered in aggressive suckers shooting up from everywhere--even down toward the base. They look worse than they did immediately after the trimming. I've never seen anything like it. This wasn't just poor workmanship, it was careless, unprofessional, and dismissive. And for this, I was charged thousands of dollars. If you care about your trees, do not hire this company. read more

Richard's Tree Service was recommended by a local nursery to remove a dead tree stump in preparation for a new tree I was going to have planted. The tree stump I needed to have removed was a 2-3 year old Japanese Maple that died and that I previously cut down. The stump was about 7" high and about the size of my fist. Unfortunately, having just undergone spine surgery, I couldn't remove this myself. Considering Richard's came highly and personally recommended by the nursery staff, and because their website indicates they do "expert tree removal regardless of size and location" I figured I'd give them a call. I called them on Tuesday at 8:15am and spoke to "Ron." Ron told me it sounded like a simple job. I explained my spine situation to him. Regarding the job, Ron said, "Sounds like you need to just get a shovel and dig it out." Ron said he'd check and get back to me. I didn't hear back from him at all the rest of the day. I called them back the next day, Wednesday, at 9:25am after waiting over 24-hours. Ron answered again. I told Ron I had spoken with him the day prior but never heard back from him. He responded, "Oh ya, I talked to the owner and he said it wouldn't be cost effective to send out a crew for such a small job. We'd recommend just hiring a gardener or landscaper to do the job." Frustrated by the inconsistency in what I was being told compared to the recommendation I received and their assertion on their own website that they handle jobs "regardless of size," I asked Ron exactly how much we were talking cost wise to send out a crew. Ron couldn't provide me a price. I asked Ron if I could speak to Rich and he told me he was not available. I asked Ron if Rich could please call me to discuss and Ron said he'd have him call me back. Today is Friday afternoon. I have not received a call back from Rich, Ron, or anyone else at Richard's Tree Service. Apparently they are not interested in serving community members with jobs they deem too small. My advice? Don't waste your time trying to get a quote from them. I reached out to another local tree service in our area yesterday morning. This morning a representative from the company came out and bid the job. This afternoon their crew came out and removed the tree stump and roots. The price was insanely reasonable and I didn't risk re-injuring my back. Avoid Richard's Tree Service and explore other options. They only are interested in large jobs. read more

We had Richard's Tree Service over today (Folsom) to remove a tree that had fallen during the past storms and a couple of stumps. They are incredibly professional. They craned the tree out in pieces so they would not disturb any landscaping. So impressive! They also brought a small stump grinder and put it on plywood so our lawn would not be damaged. When finished with the job, the cleanup was impeccable. It looked so natural like there was never a tree or stumps there in the first place. They are fully licensed and insured which you need to be sure of unless you wish to lose everything you have worked so hard for. They have also been in business for over 60 years. They were more than accommodating and even performed the bid when I was at work. Months passed and I emailed them asking if it would now be ok to move forward with the tree removal for the quoted price. Called Richard's Tree service to trim my avacodo tree on October 4th 2021. They gave me a bid and I accepted with no timetable because they were backed up. Richard's called mid December with a scheduled work date for the 29th of December. Two days prior to the scheduled work date they called stating they would need to move our appointment back an additional day to (December 30th) at 8 am. They morning of the 30th the company called 2hrs after their scheduled arrival time only to state they were behind and would be able to come out the next day!!! This is a great service! It took them a while to find an opening for taking down 4 GIANT oleanders and a Bradford Pear Tree. But they did so very efficiently and removed the oleander waste down to the smallest branch! The pear tree was cut into pieces for us (good for firewood) and the guys were friendly and fast. Mark was a fantastic supervisor and he gave us a good, honest quote. He was also knowledgeable about the trees and issues we had going on with our old property. Because the cost was so reasonable, we were able to include stump removal in a "shared area" in our front yard, where our neighbor had a tree removed! Customer service was fantastic and I am SUPER picky! My husband was home during the removal. He was happy with the friendly and professional team that performed the removal. It went very fast, and they cleaned up perfectly. We have a pool and pool equipment that was likely to be impacted and they took extra care with both. Not only did they give us a totally fair and do-able quote, but when there was a miscommunication about the appointment date, they gave me a big discount. I called this company at the beginning of September, Mark came out to give me an estimate, which I signed and told him I'd like to proceed with having two large trees pruned. He told me they were about 6 weeks out with scheduling and I said fine. 8 weeks go by with no word so I call the company to find out what was happening. They said they did have a record of my signing the estimate and he'd look into it more and call me back. (No callback) I called again a couple days later and spoke with the same man, he promised he'd look into it and call me back that day. (No callback) About a week later I got a voicemail message from Ron saying I was scheduled for the following Friday at 8:00am. (Yay!) When no one came Friday morning I called the company again, only to be told by Ron that he had no idea who had called me (it was him) but they didn't have me on the schedule that day. A really old maple tree in my backyard is slowly biting the dust. Every year we lose several branches and this year the top started to die back at the top. We used Richard's Tree Service after a neighbor's tree crashed during a big windstorm years ago and I called them again for an estimate. I want to save the shade this tree provides (and the beauty, of course). The estimator came out, gave me an awesome price for removal of all dead wood plus what it would cost to "shape" the remaining branches for looks. These guys are amazing. We had three huge, horrible china berry trees in our backyard. They were ruining our patio and causing a never ending mess. It had long been on our wishlist to have them removed, but we didn't think we could afford it. Richard's Tree Service came out, gave us a fair quote and soon we were scheduled. I can't say enough about what an amazing job they did. They finished the entire job in less than 4 hours. We live in a cul-de-sac and they expertly accessed our backyard trees from the front. Also had a huge dead willow in the backyard that was dropping truck sized branches into the street and backyard. The employees were so skilled and professional taking down the trees. They came out from Yuba City to Lincoln on a referral do help my 100+ year old Oak tree. They surveyed the tree and it's needs (since my house is only 10 years old it was on the 'trees land') to keep it healthy. They then went to work climbing into the tree to take away the limbs that were too close to the house and those that could weaken the tree over time.
