I grew up eating Richard's steak sandwiches. I've always loved how they were baked to perfection with quality hoagie rolls that were buttery and crunchy in the outside and soft and tender on the inside. The steak patty was always delicious along with the mountains of sweet onions and pickles Last week I was in town on business and stopped in to get a steak sandwich for a taste of home as I live several hours north of Hamilton. What I received was not what I remembered from my childhood. It appeared that the quality ingredients have been substituted for what can be purchased at the lowest price. I was truly disappointed. The bread was soggy, the steak patty did not taste good. I guess it had been frozen for too long. Even the onions and pickles weren't very good either. I will stop back again and hopefully get a better sandwich. Richard has been open for well over 50 years due to their quality product. I hope they correct things and get their standards back up to where they used to be. read more

We have eaten here a few times. However, this last time the Diet Coke was very sweet. We tried to find the waitress not sure where she went. Stopped someone else and they bout 1 replacement instead of two. Asked for the second one. They were no better. Someone besides waitress brought the pizza. Requested water instead of the undrinkable Diet Coke. Waitress appears bringing water. Never offered to remove the sodas from the bill. We were almost done when one of the employees takes a long tube places it in the oven and blows into it to fan the coals. There are pizzas cooking in there while he is blowing. Maybe it's hot enough to kill his germs but I'm not going back to find out. read more

although i did not have a great experience with the steak hoagies numerous times from the hamilton location of Richards pizza, i did however recently try their pizza with BBQ sauce and chicken and pineapple and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! and it is a MUST to try! this is the month of May 2023 so whoever made this pizza did an awesome job! kudos! employees were kind and helpful as well during ordering. restaurant was clean. read more

So I frequent between 2 Richard's locations. I try to avoid this location. There seems to be the same problem at this location. And that is quality. Or LACK of it. Everytime my bread bowl salad is thin,hard and small. How do I know this because at the Fairfield location it is the opposite everytime. So be careful at this location. Check it before you leave. We occasionally try other pizza and steak sandwiches, but still keep coming back to Richards. The bun, meat and sauce on the steak sandwich is phenomenal, but you better like onions! I personally love the onions, and there is a lot of them, but I guess you could always order light or without. As far as the pizza goes, it has by far the best cheese I have ever tasted on a pizza! Every time I come here I say this is one of the best steak hoagies on the planet, and I've had a lot of them. So good I've never tried anything else. Get it with extra sauce and extra cheese. Makes it just a touch soggy but so good. But... They really really REALLY need to make better fries. These are frozen, food service crinkles that are baked to a chalky dry, almost gritty consistency. I wouldn't eat them if they came free with the world class sandwich. We hope they remodel and modernize the building soon and update the kitchen to add a real deep fryer. It could be so much more... This is the third Richards Pizza location I've tried. It's the least likable location, even though the food was prepared as well as in the other two--mainly because of the area. I'm aware of the surrounding area and it isn't always on the up-and-up, unfortunately. That said, the service was friendly, no slower than the other two locations, and the food was just fine. I had an 8 inch deluxe pizza and a mountain dew for just under $10 and that's not bad. I wish it had as much taste as Millilo's but Richards is a lot like La Rosa's, though less expensive. They have good seating, but with the tilt to the parking lot, it's got to be difficult to get into the restaurant with a wheelchair. You pay at the front counter, on the right as you enter, but that area is a bit restrictive. You may have to seat the person in the wheelchair first and return to the counter to order. Of course, there are a lot of older buildings, but the location on Erie Blvd. seemed more accessible, though getting to the counter is restrictive. Seeing all the fudge up front almost gave me sugar overload! The pizza was delivered in roughly the 10 minutes quoted and it needed some time to cool. The assistant manager took the order and delivered it, and he was friendly both times, and brought a plastic knife, plastic fork, and napkins with him. That's good service! read more

Richard's steak sandwiches have changed so much since the daughters took over the restaurants. Veterans used to make their own steak patties. Now I've got a company that makes them has been doing it for quite a few years. The taste of the quality is where near what it used to be. At one time I used to travel a lot of Ohio drive back in on a Friday night. That would be the first place I would stop was to get a steak sandwich. I would not drive across the street now to get one. A hometown favorite that I crave ALL OF THE TIME! This Richard's location is the best of the "chain". Huge dining area and the site of oh-so-many fond memories of my youth. The baked spaghetti is awesome, as is the garlic bread that comes with it. SO good. But, the mother of all goodness at Richard's is the steak sandwich (with cheese). Richards has been on my 'to-do' list for years, mainly the result of gentle nagging from my wife - who used to eat here lots during her impetuous teenage youth. Then, this past Christmas the ideal opportunity arose. Some friends who used to live in Hamilton, but who moved to the wilds of Atlanta, were back in town visiting families. They suggested an impromptu gathering of like-minded folks at Richards for, as one person said, the "world's most awesome steak sandwich" When we got there I realized that Richards is one of those places you have to grow up with. Don't get me wrong, it's satisfactorily-charming, steeped in the ambiance of old melamine and seen-better-days furniture - and the staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful - but it felt strangely alien to me. To paraphrase those fine village folk from hit TV series 'The League of Gentlemen' it is "a local diner for local people". If Richards' menu was your weekly indulgence when you were a teenager the chances of it disappointing you as a middle-aged grown-up is slim, proving more likely to provoke a sense of nostalgic longing. My wife bowed to that feeling of nostalgia, opting for their Marinara-Style Spaghetti Dinner - which comes to the table in a circular aluminum-foil dish. She twinned it with another favorite from her youth, the garlic bread. She immediately declared both "wonderful" and duly demolished the lot in minutes flat. On the advice of my Hotlanta chums I went for their Italian Steak Sandwich, adding grilled (rather than the standard raw) onions and pickles. It was delivered about 10 minutes later in plastic basket (one of my pet hates) along with a small tray of standard once-frozen crinkle-cut fries. I was disappointed to discover that the steak patty was little more than a pre-formed frozen patty in seasoned sauce. Sadly, I found it fell somewhat short of the awesome status my friends had bigged it up to be. To me it was merely "OK" and not something I would return to without the added bonus of seeing my old chums. My only hope is that they will forgive me for mildly dissing the venue of many of their teenage hi-jinks. read more

Richard's has awfully good pizza. My favorite is the loaded baked potato, that has steak fries, bacon, cheese, and ranch on it. The salads are fresh and well prepared, and the service is good. The only reason I am taking a star away is because of slowness when picking up the pizza, and as far as I know, the absence of delivery services. Just had Richard's for the first time last night and it was ok. We got a half-cheese half mushroom/sausage pizza - the toppings were fine and there were enough of them but the taste overall was a bit generic . The sauce didn't have much of a personality- everyone added extra salt to their pizza to give it more kick (if I had some basil and oregano perhaps I could have saved it) and the crust was too doughy. Its not a bad pizza but it reminded me of pizza I might have gotten at a roller-rink. Meh. I had finish going to the movies and did not eat anything only plan was to go to Richards on Main Street In Hamilton. Went to Richards and it was awful the meat tasted burnt and it took them 20 minutes to make my food, the bun was bland and literally had no flavor, very disappointing for it being "most famous steak sandwiches" I will not go here ever again it was the most wasted 10.00 I've ever spent. Cute pizzeria! The regular crust is a bit thicker but with a great taste. They do not skimp on the cheese. It browns nicely on the top. What I noticed is how you can actually taste the pepperoni. Sometimes at the bigger chain restaurants the pepperoni has no taste. Even if you take it off the pizza you still cannot taste the meat. My family went to eat at Richards Pizza on Main Street in Hamilton, OH on October 24th, 2015 at 2:10 PM. Richards happened to be running a promotional offer of $.50 for a steak sandwich. There was a large line and my elderly mother who is unable to walk was waiting in the car and planned to join us inside when it was time to order as she can not stand. I was with my father(who is also disabled and has difficulty walking). A card was required to get the $.50 steak sandwich and I asked an employee for an extra card for my mother. He replied by saying " I don't give a damn how crippled she is, everyone waits in line". We instantly threw the cards in the trash and left. After arriving home I contacted the store manager who defended the employees actions and made no attempt to apologize for the incident and promptly hung up the phone one me even though I was not rude at all. After 20 minutes I decided to call back and attempt to speak to another manager and again reached the manager who again made no apologies for the incident and degraded me further. She then said she didn't have to make any accommodations for anyone with disabilities because they were having a big sale. I will be contacting the media and a lawyer Monday. My family has never been treated so badly ever! I have the call recorded and will be posting it on youtube and contacting a lawyer Monday as this violates the ADA(Americans with Disabilites Act). I would strongly recommend that everyone join me in boycotting this local business and alerting others to this issue. There is no reason to support a group of bigots. read more

While I have no idea what Richards itself looks like, smells like, or even feels like, I can say that the steak sandwich I ate was fantastic in a strange way. I was visiting my boyfriend's family and we were all famished after a long day at IKEA (the ladies) and MicroCenter (the gentlemen). We got Richards steak sandwiches, regular with cheese. I had no idea what to expect other than something that will make everyone growl with delicious recollection of the last time they had one...so I glanced at the menu and opted to be a follower. Lemmings are cute, right? We got takeout, so I only saw the food come through the front door, thus my blind love for this place. We had a gigantic salad along with our sandwiches, which was pretty impressive and tasty. Onto the star of the meal: The steak sandwich. This sandwich was, in fact, delicious. Like I said, in a weird way. It was very marinara-ey and the pickles were a really good addition (though I love pickles with my entire heart and existence, I cannot say I was completely sold on the idea of pickles on an Italian steak sandwich...until I tasted it and knew my love was true and I should never doubt it again). I have to say, this is a Southern Ohio treat that I won't mind craving and indulging in every once in awhile...unlike a certain chili that just doesn't get me the way it should. I've worked in Hamilton for 3 years now and always heard locals RAVE about the steak sandwiches, so I finally headed over and tried one. "Steak" is not what I received. The meat tastes and looks an awful lot like a McDouble from McDonalds. So...processed hamburger? Overall it was tasty, but not what I was expecting and a bit mediocre. I think if you grew up eating it, then it would have sentimental value. If not, give it a pass. Restaurant was clean, service was friendly, and my husband enjoyed his calzone. Richards is ok. It's not great, it's not terrible. It works in a pinch and has solid pizza at pretty good prices. This location is a little old fashioned with the paper plates and plastic utensils in their dining room and the staff can be testy sometimes but it's ok. Many people from the area get a nostalgic smile on their face when you mention Richards so you've got to at least respect the fact that it's one of the few Hamilton institutions that have held on. Just off the top of my head here are better places. Chesters, millilos, cassanos, all 8 up, and these are just the locals that are way ahead of Richards. I get a steak sandwich with cheese and I can't even tell if there's cheese on it? You can't even see it. I was told it gets 1 ounce? I splurged 65 cents and added another mega ounce. Then they put mushroom sauce on it, not pizza. ..so close. Another time I tried to place a phone order and the worker hung up on me. I called back and a different worker called me a liar, on the phone. Great customer service. Then they apologized after realizing I was right and offered me free food. I never picked it up.
