Baked chicken, cornbread dressing, cabbage and yams.

While traveling back to Houston, I found a small soul food establishment, that reminds me of my home town in Louisiana. The food was absolutely delicious and the portions were very big I was able to eat off them twice, I will definitely be returning while traveling in between Texas and Louisiana.

A must try in Beaumont! The food was amazing and the atmosphere was like a hug you didn't know you needed. Everyone was extremely kind. Will be stopping by weekly!

Richard's Cafe in Beaumont,Texas: this is one of the most and best home cooking. You can have in southeast Texas. The people were so nice you would think they were your family. You see that big old giant bowl of gumbo finger licking good you see y'all the desserts, neckbones oxtails everything is yummy for the tummy. My family is from Beaumont and every time I go I stop at this nice establishment don't be scared. They don't treat you like family. Tell him David from Baytown say hello!!!!

Had beef tips and rice, greens and sweet candy yams. This was by far some of the most tastiness beef tips I have ever had. The gravy was very dark and rich, like a flavorful rich gumbo roque. AMAZING SOUL FOOD! The servings were huuuuge and I couldn't stop eating it.

A breath of fresh air…read more Our party of five arrived with no reservations for lunch at 11:15am on a Monday. We were very impressed. Our server, Melissa, was phenomenal. Best customer service experience I've had in my 3 years visiting Texas. My wife and I ordered drinks. I had the Old Fashioned and she had the espresso martini. We each got one more before then end of lunch the were so good. I ordeed the cheeseburger and it was better than my steak meal I had at Saltgrass the night before. The fries are cook to absolute perfection. The special Smokey sauce is a great unique touch. I hold this place in equal comparison to Cameron Mitchell restaurants in Ohio. A++

The bread board was just as delicious as last time, and my husband really enjoyed his margarita. We shared the Tuscany Chicken Pasta; while it was a decent dish, it didn't quite compare to how outstanding the food was on our previous visit. It may simply not be the right dish for our tastes, but we're still excited to try more of their menu. I also appreciate that they offer a vegetarian option and are even catering for Thanksgiving, which shows their range and flexibility. Overall, Hearsay continues to be one of the most recommendable dining spots in Beaumont.

As always, the restaurant was packed--which is always a great sign that something good is happening in that kitchen! My waitress, Bailey, was sweet, attentive, and very accommodating, making the experience even more enjoyable. I started with a cup of their famous tomato bisque, and let me just say... I simply cannot come here without ordering it. This heartwarming soup, made with slow-roasted tomatoes, shrimp stock, cream, and Creole seasoning, is rich, comforting, and truly soothing to the soul. It remains my absolute favorite--if you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend it! For my entrée, I ordered the Avocado Multi-Grain Toast. It's a light and satisfying plate featuring mashed avocado spread over thinly sliced multi-grain bread, served with your choice of sausage or bacon, an egg cooked your way, and a fresh tomato and cucumber salad. Everything on the plate was well-prepared and very tasty. If I could make one small personal tweak, I would love to see this served on a thicker slice of buttery toasted sourdough, maybe with a sprinkle of feta on top. That's just my personal preference and how I enjoy my avocado toast--others may find this version just right as is! The search continues for my perfect avocado toast, but this was a delicious and enjoyable stop along the way. Happy Sunday, and keep sharing those amazing finds on Best Bites!

On my most recent visit, I sat at the bar and started with a Buffalo Trace bourbon while looking over the menu. The bartenders here are always attentive and welcoming; in fact, the bartender remembered me from previous visits, which speaks volumes about the level of service they provide. Dinner was a ribeye cooked medium-rare with asparagus, and it was exactly what a good steak should be: perfectly cooked, with great flavor, and served hot. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing. I followed that with their lemon icebox dessert and a lemon drop, both excellent, and finished the evening with a Four Roses Small Batch Select for a nightcap. What really sets J Wilson's apart is the staff's consistency and professionalism. The bartenders, servers, and kitchen team all seem to work together smoothly and take pride in the experience they deliver. Even on a busy night, with spring break crowds and daylight saving time throwing schedules off, the service remained attentive, and the food came out exactly right. If you're looking for a reliable steakhouse in Beaumont with excellent steaks, a strong bourbon selection, and top-notch service, J Wilson's is hard to beat. Five stars. Always a great experience.

I'm talking about the one that is gaining a lot of attention, Truth Lounge and Bistro, located at 672 Orleans St. The name of this restaurant does not lie. Their food is GREAT and that's the TRUTH! Over the top flavor in every savory bite. Luscious and delectable, you will not disagree. This place SLAPS!! Everything from the fried fish, chicken, steaks, burgers, oxtails, and I must also add the healthy delicious salads... are full of that soul food southern flavor that will grab you on the first bite (menu pic included). They load your plate with food that is enough for two meals or share it with someone else. This is Real Soul Food Here!! The restaurant is rather small, with about ten tables and four chairs at each. There is a full-service bar and flat-screen televisions on the wall. Where they lack in size they make up with flavor. There were three of us in our party and we dined in. The atmosphere was inviting, friendly, and even a bit cozy. Beverly was our waitress and she was attentive to every detail and request. It was cornbread bowl day, and if you don't know, you will when I finish. It is a ring of sweet honey cornbread with a protein of your choice and two or three sides cuddled right in the middle. The proteins include lamb chops, roast, chicken, or fish. The sides include yams, collard greens, mac & cheese, pinto beans, green beans, or baked beans. My two lunch friends ordered the cornbread bowls. One was the cornbread bowl with fried chicken (OMG), mac & cheese, and green beans. My other friend ordered a vegetarian bowl with cabbage, yams, and mac & cheese. I ordered a salad with salmon bites, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, cheese, and a side of ranch. It was beautiful to look at and even better to eat. Freshness and flavor throughout this beautiful and savory salad. I would order it again. We had an amazing and fun time, our plates were filled to capacity. You better bring your appetite when you go to TRUTH because you will need it to finish all the food they pile on your plate. You definitely get your money's worth. Please give Truth a try and you can Thank Me Later! Tell them you saw it on Best Bites. What have you enjoyed at Truth Lounge & Bistro? The food did take a minute to get to the table.... But we were one of the first tables, actually THE first to be seated that evening. 3 out of the 4 people at our table said their food was horrible. One had chicken fried steak and complained that it was 'all breading' and couldn't taste the steak. One had a Philly cheesesteak type sandwich and complained that the steak was cubed as opposed to thin sliced like a cheese-steak should be. Also said it tasted nothing like it should've. The third person ordered a seafood dish that wasn't thoroughly cooked, as well as a side dish of a vegetable (can't remember which one) that tasted as though it had been soaked in pure vinegar. My plate was fine. But, I just had a plain ol' hamburger. The restaurant didn't even have the manager come over to discuss the issues at our table, which I thought was odd. Due to the multiple issues with the meals at just our table -- I doubt my family will return.
