This is a wonderful hole in the wall with amazing seafood and a nice cozy atmosphere with movie and music memorabilia adorning the walls. Everything is good. My usual go to is the Shrimp salad PoBoy with the house Bayou Sauce on it. It's total comfort food for me. Will turn any frown upside down. Order the Banana Pudding if it's in stock. It's homemade by the owner's mom in Louisiana and often sells out. read more

I had an opportunity to dine at the Bayou Café this evening. Sadly, I will not be returning--the red snapper Pontchartrain, touted lump crab meat, and cream sauce. There was no lump crab meat, and the fish was flavorless. The meal itself was subpar. Additionally, the seafood gumbo had no flavor at all except for salt. This restaurant really shines with its fried foods, although we did not order any of them. I'm assuming that's where their repeat customers are coming from. read more

I always need seafood when visiting my family, so my sister suggested Bayou Cafe. My brother in law who is a great cook said they have the best gumbo he has tasted in a while. I had the shrimp basket and will have to say that it was very good,including well done and seasoned fries. My sister loves their oysters. Overall great food and ambiance. read more

The food was absolutely terrible. I am a sucker for shrimp and grits and get them everywhere I go. These were the worst by a mile. There was almost no grits. It was more like a cheesy/buttery soup, completely liquid. My husband's burger patty was so crispy and dry that it was hard to eat. My dad couldn't even eat his meal. He said the catfish was rubbery and the sauce was horrible as a seafood topping. My husband asked if my dad wanted a to-go box and my dad said he could get him a trash can instead. I've had bad food before, but it stings to spend over $60 on food that was verging on inedible. Also the bathrooms were not working. There were no signs on the front exterior door and they did not tell customers when they ordered food for dine in. It was only disclosed if you had to go the bathroom and asked which is too late to be helpful. You have to hold it or walk through a field to a gas station. The way they handled the bathroom makes me think this has been going on longer than a day. There is no way we would come back or recommend this place. Whoever owns this restaurant needs to put some serious effort into training their kitchen staff on how to cook and making plumbing repairs. Both your customers and employees deserve a place to use the restroom. I would quit if I worked at this establishment. read more

Whoever the new owner or management is should be ashamed of the food here now. We were so excited to come back to a restaurant we enjoyed, but were disappointed to find out nearly everything changed. Pretty standard food and service. We were buying time from the enormous Beaumont traffic yesterday and decided to stop by here cause everywhere else close-by were closed. We had both ordered two different kinds of gumbo. Mine was seafood gumbo and his 4 meat. It (the soup) tasted oddly alike with the different ingredients dumped in... like literally had fresh shrimps sitting on top of our gumbo. We agreed that both our gumbos had tasted "fatty" like the taste and feeling you get when you only bite into that white part of an uncooked bacon. That's the best way I can describe it. read more

I was stuck at Meineke for a few hours so I walked down the road for a bite to eat. I found this little place. I tried the boiled shrimp and sweet tea. The guy behind the counter was friendly and spoke when I walked in. He said the shrimp had a little bit of bite to them. When he brought the shrimp to me they looked great. They were cooked perfect nice and firm but not over cooked. The shrimp we're good but the tee was way to sweet I had to mix it 50-50 with the unsweetened tea. The service here is horrible. At a certain time they stop selling the full menu and only serve gumbo...well what they call gumbo. It's taste just like roux water. It's a crime to call that gumbo. Do better Bayou Cafe..do better. read more

Just simply good food. The fried fish and shrimp were good and were seasoned. The fries were ok (typical frozen crinkle cut fries) but were still hot and tasty. The gumbo was really good, thick, and flavored. They definitely were not shy on shrimp. There was a good amount in the bowl. The only thing I didn't care for was the cole slaw. It was horrid and tasteless and tasted nothing of cole slaw. I did see they had a nice looking pan of banana pudding that I wanted to try for about $3 and some change but it'll have to wait until next time. The inside was ok. Not your go-to place for a nice romantic date but its not bad. The young lady behind the counter was nice and attentive. Prices are decent as well. I would have never known of this place had it not been for Yelp. It's definitely worth a try. I know I'll be going back! read more

I found this cafe to be underwhelming. The grilled shrimp was okay--not bad, but just not exceptional. I was really disappointed in the Mardis Gras po-boy: it had such potential, but was just drowned in mayonnaise or sauce. The fries seemed to be the standard industrial-grade food service fries that come from Sysco. Perhaps the cole slaw is just a different-style recipe than what we are accustomed to, but nobody at my table cared for the taste. I think we paid about $12-14 per person, so not terribly expensive, but not a cheap lunch by any means. There is room for improvement with the customer service: I actually had to go to the counter to retrieve our order. Although one waitress was busy with a customer at the cash register, the other waitress was literally sitting there playing on her phone. With only a couple of patrons in the place, there really was no excuse for the floor or the drink station to be as messy as they were either. Overall, I was not impressed. This was my second visit; I doubt if I will give them another chance. read more

To read the reviews you would think the food here is good but I have tasted it and it is NOT! I would not call what I purchased gumbo?? Burnbo, Oilbo is a name they could use since it tasted like the roux was burnt and therefore rendering it un-edible for me!!I am thinking maybe the people who say it was good really don't know what real gumbo is supposed to taste like and to them I say; you have my deepest sympathy!
