I am in total agreement with the salt and pepper flavor cuisine. They are good. The ambiance is plain, clean and not necessarily affecting appetites. The customer service is another story. For hospitality business, one needs to hospitable! i tried ordering crawfish and the guy in charge bluntly responded "it's out of the season!" with a demeaning tone. I am not from Texas so the superfluous knowledge of knowing what's out of season is insulting. There's better way to inform there customers nicely or simply have a different posted menu if you no tolerance to explain things. Not all their customers are LOCAL. I am satisfied with the food I ordered but I am not coming back. There are a lot more restaurant options that will treat me well and with good food. read more

And I appreciate it and I think it does a good job. Then again on the other hand there are a few issues with it, and one of those issues is that the service here is awful. One of the girls was very attractive with amazing nails, but she wasn't friendly until Barbie complimented her and gushed over her nails, and then she became more friendly. The other girl was just really unfriendly to everybody. The dude running it seemed to be pretty unfriendly as well to be honest. So yeah. The food itself is good but the attitude is not so much. When all the signs are telling you that there's no refunds for this and no refunds for that, it just kind of is enough to rub anybody the wrong way, and it certainly rubbed me the wrong way. After all is said and done, the food itself was good but not great, and I think it could have been a lot better. So I probably won't come back here, although it wasn't bad - in fact it was pretty good by Port Arthur standards, but wouldn't have been up to much in Houston itself. In any case, I do rate it fairly highly, but I've also had much better and for a Port City my expectations were a little bit higher even. And the french fries? My goodness. Nightmare. Cold. Bad. Nah. Some food tastes god awful and smelly And some feels like sh** in your belly But when in Port Arthur You want seafood for sure And you'll find some here at Bruce's Deli. 15 perfectly Fried Oysters for $14.00. This is the kind of deal I typically expect, but cannot find near the coast! Tampura and corn meal fried versions of shrimp and fish fill the menu. Bruce's delivers fried seafood satisfaction economically and in volume. Most will suspect the exterior of this simple, cinder block building with its frugal interior decorated with what I guess is a unkempt Fish tank and TV's at both ends. Also the walls have gigantic trophy lobsters crawling on them. I appreciate this nod to the bizarre, but some may find it unnerving. For those delicate souls, and anyone not wanting to wait 20+ minutes for their order to arrive fresh from the fryer, I suggest calling ahead band taking out. read more

Right now it is mostly a pick up to-go place but the dining room re-opened 9/14/2020. Busy for pickup. When I saw all the fried foods I almost left to go elsewhere. Fried seafood is frequently bland and greasy. Not here. So glad I ordered! No alcohol but BYOB is OK. You look at the menu board at the counter & order and pick it up at the counter when your number is called. All their specialties are fried seafood or chicken. There is a Thai restaurant feel and I got Salt & Pepper Shrimp and shrimp fried rice. My food was ready really quick-hot, a little spicy and delicious! Served in to-go box with a plastic fork. Don't know if this is just DemPanic restriction or just how they roll. Garnish was green onions & minced red pepper. It usually comes with fries but I dropped an extra dollar for the shrimp fried rice which was perfect. OK. I like cocktail sauce from a bottle just fine. They gave me home-made chunky style cocktail sauce which made me scorn the bottled stuff. A little spicy, too. I can't believe I at all 12 of those big wonderful fresh shrimp! Not a single complaint from me. I was craving crispy shrimp. Not greasy fried shrimp or cold shrimp with cocktail sauce - crispy shrimp and this place hit the spot. I ordered the 12 piece salt and pepper shrimp which came with 12 of the most delicious shrimp I've ever had with some grilled onions and a piece of white bread. It was seasoned perfectly and was a tad bit spicy which was perfect. The grilled green onions were a nice surprise and a wonderful addition. I also got a side order of Chinese egg rolls and they were cooked fresh and also crispy without being covered in grease. Service was friendly and my food was ready in 10 minutes. Forgot to finish posting my review earlier. If you're looking for fried seafood. This is the place to come check out. We come here to eat every time we're in town and when they are open. Great food at a great price. We'll definitely be back. I was in here early today and there was a customer who came in after me asking them to honor their old prices way back when they first open the store. The cashier was trying to let her know that the store did not post up anything on the web but the customer kind of demanded they honor their old price. I get it if the store was the ones to put up the ad or menu with prices then they should honor it. But if it's a customer who post it up then they don't have to honor it. She was also asking why the prices was a little higher then the menu on their wall was. Woman, it's a thing they call taxes that the government want their cut! Really? Champagne tastes on a beer budget, and 5 Star fresh seafood for the blue collar worker. I am originally from this area, but have since moved away to the Austin area. Ever since I have learned about this great place from my family (word of mouth advertising is the best) I make it a primary stop to get great fresh fast seafood at an affordable price EVERY TIME I visit. THE LOCATION: Aesthetics, don't fuss over them, because this is where the locals eat simple great tasting seafood prepared by a talented Vietnamese family. The place is a re-purposed building that has simple seating, laminated menus on the wall, and the specials written on paper stuck on the same wall. There is no fancy advertising, catchy theme, or trendy dishes. Just find what you like, tell them the number and wait for your freshly prepared meal. The most modern things they have in there are the TV's to bide your time, and drink coolers to get a beverage from while you wait. One of the great things about the atmosphere itself are the people who go there. This a pure blue collar hard working town, and the lunch time crowds on a payday can be large, and don't be fooled into thinking this is a job site by all the large trucks and contractors hanging out in the parking lot... they are all there for the food. THE FOOD The 2 main items I always eat, depending on my flavor mood and reasoning, are the Salt & Pepper Chicken wings or the Salt & Pepper Shrimp. Personally I prefer the shrimp since wings are not always my favorite thing to eat. From talking to the family members who work the front, the items are prepared simple. A hot wok fire, oil, your items lightly breaded in corn starch, then tossed in the wok/pan. Inside the searing pan they toss in: a few seasonings, red pepper flakes, and finish off with julienned cut green onions. The oil is so hot that it fry's the green onions almost stiff with a slight crunch at times (tasty and nice). In the finish, they lightly coat the shrimp/chicken choice with fresh sea salt to complete the fresh taste. Your main selection is rested on a bed of french fries, white bread, and a small salad (on the side) then all presented to you in open to-go container for your approval. Personally, the presentation is a great touch for a small place that ensures you that you get what you ordered each time. I ordered 3 portions to-go for my family and they opened each and every box for my approval. THE PRICE The average price for the Salt & Pepper Shrimp is about $10 (plus tax). That includes 12 medium/large shrimp. Well worth the affordable price. I challenge another restaurant to come close for the taste, food, and value. They keep their costs simple and low in overhead to pass on the great flavor to you. THE FINAL WORD So the next time that you are in the Port Arthur, Texas area either for work, family, or because you wanted to see a hard working town recover from 3 major hurricanes in the past years. Give the great family at Bruce's Seafood Cafe a visit, and see how and why they have endured the hurricanes, trendy restaurants, and fly-by ideas of other businesses to provide great tasting, fast prepared seafood at a low cost for a community that celebrates is heritage and diversity. VERY busy spot! I asked for a take out menu and lady said they didn't have one because the items change so much(?), ok, whatever. Still the menu on the wall looked pretty permanent to me. Although there were hand written papers tacked around the pass through window. So I guess that's where we were getting that menu info from. I got the salt & pepper shrimp so praised by Troy(I think). It was divine. Hot and fresh, with pepper flakes and green onions on top(I'd have taken more of those, thank you). Also the vietnamese egg rolls were really tasty, much better that their Chinese counterparts. Easty to find location of a corner, limited parking, busy.
