Dr Levy is living in the past. No technology. Still using fax. No online communication with MY CHART through out San Francisco. His hand writing is just atrocious. Not able to read. Could be dangerous. Writes every down. No use of computer to connect with the outside world. Very arrogant and sarcastic. Nurses dislike him At Cpmc. Nothing new age about him. Don't advise. read more

Outstanding! As a 30 year Firefighter Paramedic, I have significant damage. Dr Levy was recommended as I am known to chew through doctors, I expect a high degree of competence, many fall very short. His ability is unquestionable, his mannerism is a friend, fatherly figure though I am in my 60s. I have Complex PTSD, I am not easy, he puts me at ease, he is compassionate, direct. I drive 250 miles to see him, been doing it for years, worth every mile. His staff, seasoned, competent, friendly.. they have become family as they care as though I am family. I have provided numerous memorable visits, ones that make people afraid...they dug in and kept me safe until I could regain my self control. I have doctors, seen doctors each end of California and outside the State. Dozens of specialists, facilities, all trying to save me from myself, the excessive damage I acquired. There is no other doctor, staff that has brought so much comfort to myself. In a world of 10 minute visits, Dr Levy is in no hurry to get you down the road. His dogs, they are the fabric, they have a story. Some people can't be pleased, being a 37 year medic I know how people treat those that provide care. I never judge, I do however have expectancy. Dr Levy, Irit, Ben, the remainder of staff I owe tremendous gratitude. I can't be fixed in part, I accept that..kindness, genuine care makes it all palpable. Bob read more

I am a patient of Dr. Richard Levy for 7 years. Every time I see him, he takes the time to perform in-depth health evaluations to learn everything possible about my heart condition and how it is impacting my life. I value his advices about other conditions I have, twice he saved me from unnecessary procedures recommended by other specialist. Great doctor and office staff! read more

Yikes...Never had such a bad experience in a doctor's office. *Admin I made appointment with seemed confused and unhelpful (actively sought for every excuse why I COULDN'T make an appointment) *Appointment didn't start on time (30 minutes of waiting) *Overheard pro-longed argument between junior doctor and one of the admins that shouldn't have happened and CERTAINLY shouldn't have taken place in the middle of a waiting room *Dr. Levy was a horrible listener who seemed disinterested in me AT BEST and was openly dismissive of me. (You may be a knowledgable doctor, but if no one trusts you, what good will it do.) *Dr. Levy left my consult room, the admin tried to get his attention, to which he actively heard and ignored and walked into his office Maybe he was having a bad day, but every single interaction I had with his staff betrayed a disorganization and unhealthy atmosphere. DO. NOT. GO. HERE. read more

Wow. This is the most unprofessional office I have ever experienced. The front office is incredibly rude and had a hard time following my request. I had to reiterate everything three times and still felt that my communication was not received properly. read more

I've been to plenty of doctor's offices to know that this place is messed up! I've thrown in the towel -- I left my last physician's office after 15 years because of an insurance policy change and began to see Dr Levy as my primary care physician. During my hour wait in the office yesterday, I got to see and hear the office staff once again conduct themselves in an unprofessional manner. They are constantly frazzled by the most routine circumstances. I got to hear the PA or some other practitioner in the office speak with the staff about how his planned sexual prowesses will be during a planned office get-away. Not a whisper but a full-on announcement. Puleeze ... keep me waiting in the office waiting room for 30 minutes and make me listen and watch this act. Over an hour since I arrived and still waiting to be seen by Dr Levy. This is not the first time that I have experienced this. I kindly asked for my office visit fee returned. Which was followed with excuses by the staff of why i've had to wait for over an hour and still not seen. There is a fundamental problem in that office. I wont be returning. Looking for a new doc. read more

I have been seen in the office twice now for a heart issue. Also, I have had multiple phone conversations with the staff at the front desk. Additionally, I have once had dealings with the technician who runs the stress test. All of my interactions have been very clear and straightforward, and I have greatly appreciated their help and care while dealing with all of this during this stressful time. I would absolutely recommend this office and Dr. Levy. read more

8/15: This is an update: I have now been to Dr Levy a handful of times this past year. He is still a great doctor, patient and kind and trustworthy- everything I expect from a physician. His secretary, on the other hand, is more than just rude. She is CRAZY. I have heard her talk shit about the nurse behind her back, and then YELL AT HER FROM ACROSS THE OFFICE. This is insane! When I needed a lab rx, she made an appointment for me nearly one month out. After waiting an hour to see Dr Levy, he was shocked that she didn't just get the prescription from him immediately over the phone. In other words, I didn't need an appointment and waited a whole month for nothing. I went back three weeks later to get the results (no, they didn't call me to tell me they had the results, like every other doctor does). I went straight to the office, because it is obviously pointless to call the office as the secretary clearly doesn't care about the patients and is just trying to get off the phone as fast as possible. So I went to the office and asked if the results had come in. I don't know how to convey the attitude she had without actually acting it out for you. She made me feel like I was pushy for even asking for the results. Then questioned, repeatedly, if I had already gotten the test done (what?!?!). She huffed and puffed just to get up from her seat, turn around, and get my file. Guess what- the results had been there for more than 2 weeks!. She said that the Dr would call me with the results... the results that she was looking at... the results that were sitting 8 inches away from me... the results that they hadn't called me about in more than two weeks. I asked her if Dr Levy was in the office. She said yes. I asked if he could just give permission for me to take the results (they weren't even for him, they were for my specialist who couldn't order the test because of my HMO). She literally HUFFED and said, "well, he's very busy and you're going to have to wait here. I'm just going to call you." I told her no, because I have no faith that she would remember to tell him anything. I turned around and sat down. Well, 15 minutes later Dr Levy finished with his appointment, looked at my chart, copied my results, said hello-how-are-you and sent me on my way. I'm not going back to Dr Levy, much as I like him. That secretary is beyond obnoxious and I just can't deal with her anymore. 12/11: Dr Levy is a very sweet and welcoming physician. He gave me the time to ask about anything that was on my mind- beyond the main ailment that brought me in. And he was respectful, instead of condescending, when I had questions about my health that clearly weren't life-threatening. His assistants were very capable and caring. The only problems? His front office was very rude on the phone and I wasn't actually seen by the doctor until an hour after my appointment. I don't even consider the long wait an issue because I have had 4 physicians in 5 years (I've moved a lot) and have never waited less than 45 minutes. read more

Dr. Levy, communicated very well what my condition is and went past the call of duty so I was well treated. Highly recommended read more

This is the worst doctor's office I have ever encountered. I got assigned to this doctor by my insurance company. Back in the beginning of Covid I had called to get advice on an eye infection or a referral to an eye specialist, his office was extremely rude and tried to cut me off at every sentence saying he will not take any new patients. I had to go all the way to Mexico to be treated immediately. All he had to do was take a look at my eye and give me a referral. Now months later I have requested a new doctor and it will not be effective until January. I have contracted Covid and need his medical advice, well his office again being extremely rude said he cannot even call me because he is on the phone all day. So rude and not even a lick of compassion that I have been suffering with this horrible illness. HORRIBLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL. HE NEEDS TO GET RID OF THAT AWFUL PERSON WHO IS REPRESENTING THEM. read more

I first saw Dr. Levy in January of February of 2000 for a cardiac issue involving Worker's Comp. I was impressed with his thoroughness and professional manner, although he was not dressed in the typical white smock that other doctors that I have seen wear. The atmosphere was somewhat like a family, although Barbara, the office supervisor strives for more typical doctor's office professionalism. Dr. Levy's main practice involves Worker's Comp claims, but he still has his share of private patients that think highly of him. Bottom line is that I have felt extremely comfortable trusting Dr. Levy and his staff with my life for over 10 years. I have referred several people to him, both private and Worker's Comp patients and all have been very satisfied. Dr. Levy also has a complete diagnostic center, including a treadmill as well as the EKG, which is in most doctor's offices now days, as well at Echo Cardio Gram testing, ultrasound, etc., right in the same building without having to be referred somewhere away from his office and having to make another appointment. I almost forgot to mention the free parking in the rear of the building, providing it is not full, he obviously cannot provide private parking for each of his patients! I believe I have only had to park on the street one or two times the entire time I have been a patient and those times were when I first saw Dr. Levy and was not aware of the free parking. I tend to be early for ALL my medical appoints and prefer to be seen as early as possible. I do not want to be one of habitually late patients, causing the patents who have later appoints to have to wait longer, because they cannot get their butts out-of-bed! I think I only had to wait more than ten minutes after my scheduled appointment time once or twice during the time I have been seeing Dr. Levy and I was told both times, "he was running late due to a medical emergency." The rest of the time I have been seen on time or maybe early. I have continued to see Dr. Levy and am pleased with his services, and his staff, as well as making a friend over the years. I am not sure what the people who expressed displeasure with the office and staff expect. I have NEVER personally experienced anything like they describe. In fact, it has been just the opposite. read more

Is it possible to give a rating of zero stars? Because that would be accurate for Dr. Levy and his office. My mother (95) was referred to him - she'd never seen a cardiologist to this point in her life. At the first visit (with an appointment, of course), we waited one hour past the appointed time to see him. On the second visit, we waited YET ANOTHER HOUR past the appointed time to see him. No one in the office even looked our way during these wait times. He prescribed a new drug for her and requested we check back in a month. At the end of the first month of the new drug, I realized there was no refill. She was doing very well on it, and I wanted her to continue using it. Five days before the last pill, I called his office for the refill request. Someone on his front desk said she would speak to Dr. Levy and make sure the pharmacy received the refill request. Neither of those things happened. Human error...I get it. Seeing she had one pill left, on Friday at 4 pm I called his office to request the refill. They closed at 3 pm, so his answering service said they would reach out to him and call me back to confirm. Neither of those things happened. I called the answering service again at 5 pm. Whoever answered this time was more concerned that my mother's prescription would run out on a Saturday and made the heroic effort to reach Dr. Levy. He succeeded....and Dr. Levy was mad as hell. The good doctor called me back directly, and proceeded to scream at me for failing to follow the proper protocol (whereas, the pharmacy makes the refill request to the doctor's office via fax). He continued to scream at me for not waiting the entire 6 months (huh?) for the prescription to run out before harassing his answering service. I explained he had prescribed the medication for one month only, that I had called his office five days in advance of the pills running out, that his staff had said they'd make sure she received her medication, and that he shouldn't yell at me. He continued screaming about ignoring protocol, harassing his office, etc. At this point, I was VERY upset by his erratic and unprofessional behavior, and hung up. I called my mother's GP for the refill. Dr. Levy was unhinged...no other description is necessary. I'm sure there are many other qualified, professional, compassionate cardiologists out there happy to see my mom. But as far as we're concerned, he's fired. read more

I have done 2 visits with the doctor. Although you may experience a little bit of wait time you will get good answers. He is a straight shooter and was able to diagnose me within 2 days. Just to give you some background. I was in the ER last Saturday for shortness of breath, chest pain, back pain, and dizziness. I went to the ER (Kaiser, SF) believing I was experiencing a heart attack. They did blood work, EKG test was negative, but they wanted to proceed to have a chest CT scan in case. 1 doctor brought back results stating I have an enlarged heart, then 10 min's later another doctor claimed that I have a thoracic aortic aneurysm with 3.6 x 4.0 cm aortic. Literally brought me and my family so much panic. So, I scheduled a visit with Dr. Levy MD (Cardiologist) that Wednesday. While I was waiting I couldn't stop but researching the condition and potential life threating implications which were setting myself up for anxiety and hypertension. So the doctor got the chest CT scan from Kaiser and did he is own echo scan (which is the best method to measure the heart), a stress test, and blood work to ensure nothing else could be the problem. Was able to get all of that covered in 2 days. Later discovered that I don't have a thoracic aortic aneurysm. I had a normal aorta by the aortic root at 2.9-3.0 cms. So the lesson here is that although we get diagnoses from an ER doctor (who saves lives every day) please see a specialist doctor. They are certified in this kind of field. Also if you need double confirmation. Get a second opinion. Hope this life experience may help. read more

We did not have good experiences twice we went to see Dr. Richard Levy's office on California Street. The front desk personnel were too busy and under lots of stress. They didn't greet us with smile nor had any eye contact, just told us to "take a seat". The office ran late both times we were there. Even we booked the 1st appointment of the day, the technician who ran the cardio machine was late coming to work. When we were waiting in the exam room to see the doctor, we could hear Dr. Levy was busy talking to his handy man / contractor about fixing something in the office. He kept us waiting. This was very annoying and very unprofessional. Then later the nurse had to look all around her desk to find our chart to make copy for us. How could our chart be lost immediately after we finished seeing the doctor? Dr. Levy may be an experienced cardiologist, but the office doesn't run smoothly. The only positive thing I can say about the facility is the reserved parkings are available behind the building. read more

After more than two years of confusion and unprofessional behavior, I am moving on to another doctor. Dr. Levy has been my Primary Care Physician for nearly 30 years. At my initial visit, after the exam, he told me to get dressed and come into his office. He spent more than 30 minutes, talking with me, getting to know me. At each subsequent visit, he has taken the time to ask how I was doing in general. When I was diagnosed with breast cancer and needed referals to a surgeon, an oncologist and a radiation specialist, Dr. Levy was able to apply what he knew about me and pick doctors with whom I felt comfortable at a stressful time. I actually think of Dr. Levy as a friend I can count on. The office staff is often dealing with a number of changing circumstances and balancing priorities that might actually be life/death. They do a better job than I would and I appreciate their professionalism. Whenever I ask them to mail me a lab form, it arrives sooner than I expect. I know that when Walgreens contacts them to extend a prescription, they respond and I get what I need in a timely manner. I recently referred my two grown sons to Dr. Levy. Is there anything more telling than that? :-) read more

Excellent bedside manner. Very thorough cardiac workup.

Straight shooter, sharp doctor. Easy to talk to.

My husband and I have been with Dr. Levy for over 16 years. My husband actually started with him about 20 years ago. I don't know what office Nina M and Peter R were in but in all the years we have been patients we have never ever experienced anything like they described. It has been busy on occasion but if I went into a doctor's office and it wasn't a little busy I would be worried. The entire staff is courteous, professional and caring. They have a great sense of humor which believe me can be comforting when dealing with serious illnesses. We have referred numerous friends to Dr. Levy and like Ray B. trust him with our lives. I travel quite a bit and more than once over the years I have had to call him from Chicago, Washington, DC, New York and even Greenville, SC to get my prescriptions. I assure you if you go into his office and and talk with his patients you will find that many have been with him for years and wouldn't think of going anywhere else. Do you know how difficult it is to find a primary care physician that you are comfortable with. Then trust me don't take my recommendation lightly. Thanks. read more

I think Dr. Levy has kept me alive (and well). Parents and brother died in their 50's of cardiac arrest. On my first visit with that history (in my 40's), Dr. Levy did an immediate ultrasound and worked over the years to tailor my medications. He has since ordered treadmill, regular blood tests, etc. It is great that he is both an Internist and Cardiologist. Sure, his office wait can be long, and the open-area office dynamics can seem chaotic, but I've always, always gotten the appointments I need. Barbara is gracious on the phone; Irit conducts studies and is so earnest and familiar with all veteran patients, keeping her lovingly goofy chocolate Lab with her many years. Dr. Levy isn't pretentious in any way; medical care is about Humanism to me, and he fulfills all aspects of it for me the past nearly 20 years. read more
