Needless to say, I've been a regular at UCSF Lakeshore labs for a few months and have gotten to know some of the phlebotomists here. They deserve more credit than they are given. Despite having a constantly busy influx of people, they are all kind friendly and helpful. I look forward to visiting with them, even for quick pleasantries during the 2 minute blood draw. I've seen how they've grown from being short staffed with only 2/day to 4 or 5. Sure, some days the wait can be really long but I wouldn't blame that on the staff...that's more relevant to the overwhelm of our healthcare system. Here are a few tricks I've learned to beat the crowd: - if you need labs done before work or due to fasting the night before, get there before they open at 8am - avoid Mondays and Fridays as those are the busiest days - have your ID ready to give to the receptionist upon arrival - make sure your lab orders are current to avoid delays/confusion What's also helpful is that the lab results come back within a few hours, a godsend compared to other lab services out there that take days to produce results. Let me address that by saying that if you prefer your diagnosis and care to be rushed, there are other health care providers who will gladly do so and charge your insurance full pop without a second thought. Not here. If you have to wait, be grateful that you are being seen by a professional with integrity. These folks care about people! Obviously, it is sick people that go to a doctor which can sometimes make for an uncomfortable waiting experience. Here, they had an air filter deal right in the waiting area, which I considered a thoughtful touch. Also, the chairs that were provided were very comfortable. Dr Fong and his wife (she is also a nurse) seemed to give the same amount of attention to all of their clients and even found time to be nice to my kids. I cannot say enough regarding my visit and I intend to go back if and when I may need to. I did not feel like I was treated with kindness, empathy or compassion from Susanna, and it made every administrative task to get an appointment stressful. Example: I called in to cancel an appointment three business days in advance due to being potentially scheduled for jury duty that week. I was asked to hold the phone call, then hung up on. Then when I dialed back, I was berated, and accused of doing this consistently. Three business days is very reasonable given my civil duty, which I may be criminally liable for if I do not show up for jury duty. I asked Susanna if there was a written policy that forbids clients from canceling three business days in advance. She said no. (Lots of question marks on why I was treated that way. Oh well, moving on.) I hope this feedback serves as a wake-up call for the doctor's office to address the shortcomings in their administrative staff and improve the overall patient experience. I doubt there will be positive changes within the customer care, given comments say Susanna is his wife. Until then, I'll be seeking medical care elsewhere.

She's been my doctor for for 26 years. I like her practical approach and the way she involves me in my treatment. She doesn't recommend unnecessary procedures, is generous with referrals to specialists and, listens. She remembers details of my life, and incorporates that knowledge into my physical health. She's even called me at home with big test results. Negatives: her appts. run late, but the delays are getting shorter. The reason: she takes time with her patients. The front office staff can be a bit frosty, but once your in, her nurse(s) are very nice.
