Dr. Hans Yu is the best doctor I have ever met in my life. Both generations of my family have been under his care. He is extremely responsible and always takes the time to patiently explain every issue to his patients. He truly embodies the spirit of a compassionate physician and genuinely cares about the well-being of his patients. I once developed a gum infection that showed signs of spreading, but because of a long weekend, I was unable to see a dentist immediately. I emailed Dr. Yu for help, and he was willing to step in and prescribe antibiotics for me so I could get through the long weekend safely before seeing a dentist. He is a wonderful person and an excellent doctor. I highly recommend him. read more

He would look up my number on file and called me back when answering service took down a wrong phone number. He listened carefully and gave his professional advice. Dr. kwok is a great doctor. He called me after my appointment just to check to see how I'm feeling. He really cares about his patients

I actually began coming to this clinic when Dr. Yu had another doctor here, Dr. Edmond Liu, he was the bes-test doc ever, very patience and knowledgeable and detail as well.... but he left to go to kaiser, and when i found out, I was greatly sadden, and didn't want to deal with the hassel of finding me another doctor, so I stuck around. Lately, I have been getting sick alot... so when i call for the doctor this is what I get.... Great doctor, only problem, he is booked up to year 2040... So it seems! His staffs are very protective, and if you don't complain your near your death bed, don't even think about having the chance to be set up for a appointment where you wait at minimal 1.5 hour before you get to see him. Also, there is a tendency for the fax machine to break down, even when the staff says, just fax over the materials.. *sigh* read more

Update to my review: Do not seek Dr Chan. She isn't very empathetic and a great personal doctor. Dr Yu is still great. My mother goes to Dr Yu and he's super friendly and caring. He genuinely wants to know we're doing fine and even knows me. He even smiles and cracks jokes and doesn't have to read notes to remember you. Dr Chann is the opposite. I use to see her because I preferred a woman to be my general physician. I avoided her for years, and I have been needing to do a check up. - First, she couldn't tell the difference between my left and right chest in a physical once. I wish I could exaggerate or go more into detail. She literally derped and realized her mistake and said "Sorry I was on autopilot". That showed her attention to people - Second, you want a doctor you want to get to know you and you get to know her. It's a personal relationship. I was asking how she was doing and how her family was. She just stopped mid work, stared at me and goes "They're fine." It definitely wasn't a response of "They're cool. Thanks for asking!" It was a "I'm working, shut it and stop asking". This experience was about 3 years ago and I never came back, despite her being still my GP. Obamacare limits the people I can see. I'll be changing insurance this year since I'll be married, but I will not be coming back because Dr Chan clearly does not care about her patients. If you come here, look for Dr Yu. He's so much kinder. You want to have a relationship with your doctor. read more

This update is for the office, not the physician personally. I decided enough was enough, when I called to make an appointment and told I had to wait a month and a half, and was told by Michelle she refused to relay a message to the doctor. I wanted to see him for a medical condition that came back, and wanted to see if it was something he could take care of without me going in. He's an amazing solo doctor, so I knew his schedule was booked. But, to REFUSE to relay a message to the doctor??? WTF?!?!? I didn't want to deal with the rude as answering service, so I decided it was time for us to split for good. I shouldn't have to resort to calling the answering service after hours to speak to my doctor. Seems like all the competent staff members left with Dr. Liu. Coincidence I wonder? Probably not, since all the other good docs I used to see here have left this practice as well. Oh well. Good luck to those who have decided to move on as well. read more

Dr Yu is an awesome doctor. He is very friendly, knowledgeable, has great "bedside manners" and really pays attention to what you are saying. Although he has a ton of patients, he always remembers me and my entire family (My grandmother, my parents, my sister and I are all patients). Having been in his care for 17 years now, I can definitely say I am a loyal patient! The only downside is that it can be hard to get appointments with Dr Yu -- a testimony to his popularity. The front desk receptionists can also be hit or miss. Sometimes, they are super nice. Other times, not so much. Unless you have an early morning appointment, chances are you'll end up waiting around for 30 - 60 minutes before you can see the Doctor. On the bright side, there are lots of magazines to read! read more

It's hard to review Dr. Yu since I can hardly get an appointment to see him! But when I do (which I probably have only seen him once in the past four or so years I've been with them), he's really great. I was actually surprised to find out Dr. Liu had left. Anyway, great doctor, TERRIBLE staff. This post is mainly for the staff. This front desk is terrible and unprofessional. They are either really nice or extremely rude; more of the latter. I work at a doctor's office too, so I know how crazy and aggravating it can get, but it comes with the job. Also, they try to answer questions that I would prefer to hear from the doctor and they sound super unsure of their answers (doesn't make me feel any better). For example, I asked a question about a certain test and why I reacted to it the way that I did and the nurse/receptionist on the phone said, "uhhh.. it's normal.. uh.." and then I asked her how long it would last for and she changed her answer two times. ???? That does NOT answer my question and does NOT make me feel any better. I hope people learn to demand to be able to talk to the doctor and/or have their messages relayed to the doctor so he will call them back. That is our right as patients. We ended up playing phone tag, yet I doubt they asked the doctor to call me back. My father had issues here as well, but they didn't do anything to improve their patient service. I am writing this post because I am probably going to part ways with this family doctor due to the fact it is hard to get an appointment with him and I cannot deal with their staff. I understand the staff is under pressure seeing patients every day, but I think it really bothered me when they tried to answer my question and gave me a vague answer that didn't really answer anything. One more thing, they charge fifty cents for every copy of results you ask for. Really? Blasphemy! Docking another star for that. I wish I could give their service zero! read more

I thought I risk going here and try it out though I read that the service here is horrible but the doctors themselves were very good. 1) Service here is definitely terrible and rude. - I thought if I ignored their Chinese accent, I wouldn't misunderstand it for their rudeness, but no, service here definitely is not professional. 2) The service provided by Dr. Hans, weren't as great as well. Asking questions to a doctor is key to better cure your situation, but when I asked questions, they were not answered thoroughly and more so, "I'll keep it short and simple". 3) Of course, as a patient, I would rely on the professionals to assist if scheduling an appointment is definitely necessary. I contacted them and asked to speak with the doctor or a contact number/voice mail or email to leave a message/question. With no hesitation, the reception lady responded to me that my request will not be available and I will have to make an appointment. I re-worded my question to, "So for my to receive any medical information and guidance I will have to schedule an appointment?" Her response, "Yes." It appears that the way they do business is simply to make money and not to genuinely care and help you with your medical needs. Also, if you don't pay your bill on time they charge you overdue fees. I did return to my current doctor and asked the same questions, and they were able to provide me simple guidance and after a year not paying for a bill, no overdue fees were imposed. I felt some pain in the my rib cage so I called the dr.'s office hoping to schedule an appointment asap. Receptionist: How about tomorrow afternoon? Me: Sounds great! So will I be seeing the younger doctor? (Forgot his name) Receptionist: Nope, it'll be Dr. Yu. Me: (shakes head in disbelief). No freakin' way. Me? See Dr. Yu? The doctor gods must be watching out for me!!!! Hallelujah! The only time I get to see Dr. Yu is when I schedule my physical at least 6 months prior. The other times I get the younger doctor, who is a bit shy and less thorough when explaining things to me. Since I got so lucky this time, I had to milk my time with Dr. Yu. He was so patient and detailed to me. Turns out I injured myself while exercising so I just had to rest. I'm not sure if he's taking any more new patients though because he is already so popular. Worst Clinic ever. I have never seen this doctor before, but I received an invoice of "Not showing up office visit" from the clinic. This is ridiculous. I have never heard about such fee in America. I had only requested a blood test voucher from the office in the past, but I have never requested for an office visit appointment. I don't know what appointment is being scheduled. The fee was $25. This is outrageous......$#$^#&#&@ If I can put zero star, I will definitely do so. Unbelievable ridiculous charge randomly.... hopefully you can stay away of it. read more

HORRIBLE. I have called Dr. Yu 7 times in the time span of two hours since they have opened to make an appointment and NO ONE IS AVAILABLE! Dr. Yu has been my primary doctor for a year now and I have only been able to get a hold of them twice. I have had similar experiences where I was not able to get into contact with them or they take over a week and a half to respond to Walgreen's pharmacy to approve my refill. read more

Dr Yu was my Dad's doctor, but I really messed up my ankle one time and had to see someone so I came here since its local. The wait was not very long at all and he was very helpful. He gave a very thorough exam of my foot and gave me a very reassuring diagnosis. He even told me I could get an x-ray if it would comfort me further, but in the end I took his word and I got better by following his instructions. I thought this doctor was great because he would take the time to talk to me about my current condition and even offer alternatives. However, learning how great my wife's and my new daughter's doctors are, I have changed my mind. Here are the reasons this doctor and his office is terrible. * it's difficult to get an appointment * he charges a co-pay for a check-up. this upset me the most. * I turned 35 recently, and so did my wife. And apparently, her doctor called her about doing a full check up with labs. Apparently, after age 35, you are supposed to have annual labs done. read more

I used to go to Dr Yu with my mother when he used to see her at St Mary's Hospital. Once he had his own practice, he didn't see her as often and when he did, he couldn't really help her. He didn't really showed that he cared enough to recommend her to go to another doctor that can help her. My mom was sick and needed a doctor, he should show that he cares for his patients. He obviously didn't care for my mom. I don't recommend him go to another doctor. There's a lot more Chinese doctors that will treat you much better than Dr Yu. read more

Dr. Yu is nice, patient and truly cares about his patients. He's not at all snooty like some other doctors out there and he takes the time to tell his patients what to do in order to maintain good health. He gets 5 stars as a doctor, but overall he gets 4 stars because due to his popularity, it's nearly impossible to schedule an appointment with him these days w/o booking 3-4 months in advance. Also, he needs to replace most of his receptionists that work in the front desk; they are rude and obnoxious and I have seen them yell at the elderly patients on more than one occasion.... Dr. Yu is a good doctor. However, It's very hard to make appointment to see him. Once you do get an appointment with him then it's OK. I called in on Jan 2015 to make an appointment for a preventive annual checkup. The earliest available appointment is Nov 30, 2015. Unbelievable but he is still taking new patients. I've been seeing Dr. Yu for more than 15yr. It seemed like every time that I have an appointment with him the wait time is ~ 1 hour and when I did finally get to see him he rushed through the time that he spent with me (but it seems like that way for every doctor these days). Dr. Yu is one of the most knowledge and polite doctor I know. He really sits down to listen and educate about health concerns. I ultimately left his practice because I felt uncomfortable with staff communication. Example 1, you will usually get the voicemail system unless you are making or changing an appt. Example 2, when I needed my lab report faxed to me, the receptionist refused because I could not pay the $1.00 administrative fee up front. She would not agree to having the check mailed immediately or placing the balance on my record. Thus, even an accessible doctor can turn inaccessible. read more

I ended up seeing Dr. Yu by chance and he was friendly, warm, and patient. I went in with a bladder infection and he waited 40 minutes for me to give him a sample. Just to make sure I was alright, he had me go straight to the ER after seeing him, and I can't say how grateful I am for following his advice. :) I'm all better now thanks to Dr. Yu. read more

Compassionate, respectful, extremely responsible. For 38 yrs, our mother continued to see a doctor in Chinatown. He never did labs on her even though she was a diabetic. Needless to say, the damage was extensive. That doctor even refused to fax over a referral to a specialist when she had a stroke. He made us go pick it up. It was a true blessing to find Dr. Hans Yu. We are grateful beyond words. I know his practice is very busy but somehow he always has things covered. We would see him at the hospital at 7 in the morning and he's back late at night. Dr. Yu was all you yelpers said he was and more. The receptionist squeezed me in for a same day appointment. It was an emergency. I had an ear infection and I didn't have insurance and I was in pain! I waited an hour and he still saw me even though it was way after his closing hours. I felt bad, he had to pick up his kids from school. But he was thorough. He did not rush me even though he was in a hurry. He reiterated all my problems to me, so I know he was listening. He gave me a prescription and I was on my way to the pharmacy for antibiotics. I love Dr. Yu. He sets the bar when it comes to looking for a specialist. He takes time to explain to you what's going on, how to prevent it from happening again, how to better take care of yourself, and is in no rush to work on his next patient. I agree with the first reviewer, he's way too popular, but he's worth the wait. I usually walk to the bakery down the street. My boyfriend had tried to make an appointment due to consistent pain in his hands. We called three times in three consecutive days and left three messages for them. I've been seeing Dr. Yu for a year now but he has been my entire family's doctor for years. He is very nice and welcoming and is very thorough with his explanations making sure I understand the concept unlike a few of the other doctors I've had in the past. I also always get my lab results and tests back pretty quick which doesn't stress me out unlike when it comes back late. There is a small fee for an EXTRA copy of the lab but at my previous doctor's office they also charge for extra copies. One problem is that I do agree with the person below who said that the front desk is either extremely polite or extremely rude. I think it might depend on which worker you get because some of them are solely there for the chinese speakers and to help them out. But it definitely needs to improve. If I was rating the staff I would give them 2 stars but I am not. I am rating the doctor who provides excellent medical services. However due to his popularity it is extremely difficult to make an appointment. But his medical associates are also very good. read more

Good Doctor is hard to come by, attending to patients and keep up on new knowledge, then had to listen to complaints about the office staffs. While I was waiting for my turn in Oct 2015 at the office, I can hear someone standing at the front desk complaining her appointment is so far away. The staff was most accommodating, that person felt she is not getting the respect and keep on whining and block the next person. I did not have a family doctor and had just undergone open heart surgery. My wife selected Dr. Yu for me and I am forever grateful that she selected Dr. Yu. I am from Scotland and I had a great problem with very high cholesterol. I have been going to Dr. Yu for almost 25 years and he has taken very good care of me and, with the right medications, my bad cholesterol is now under 70. He reviews in detail, my lab work and I follow his recommendations to the letter. If I have a problem I can call his office and I get a call from Dr. Yu, mostly at 8 PM. His recommendations for other doctors, I have needed, have been excellent. He has also taken very good care of my wife who had one serious illness. Sometimes the wait is long but he is well worth it. This one star is a review for the staff at this office and not the doctors. Dr. Hans Yu is my parents' doctor and I've brought them several times and times on my own to turn in paper work. My parents have to wait at least an hour to be seen and on top of that the receptionists there are extremely rude without an ounce of manner and consideration for the patients. Dr. Yu is a very knowledgeable and compassionate doctor. He is incredibly popular, this making an appointment with him directly can be near impossible sometimes. My main gripe is his office and staff. The waiting room makes you feel like you are sitting in the DMV. His staff leaves a lot to be desired. Once I called to cancel the appt, and the woman who answered the phone wanted to know why before cancelling it. Ummm..... really none of your business, especially since I was giving ample notice. Recently I called to see if they had the swine flu vaccine. The person who aswered said "For you?" without asking who I was. I said "Yes" and she said "no we don't have it". My wife and I have been under Dr. Yu's care for 25+ years. Dr. Yu has been always taking his time to explain the causes of our sickness / health problems and options that we can take. We also have not had major issues with the front desk staff. Only issue is that Dr. Yu is so popular and have to take care of so many patients including those unscheduled urgent ones each day. Waiting time sometimes could be longer than 45 minutes even with scheduled appointment. He has been returning emergency calls over the phone during off hours and weekends in the same day when we called the emergency phone #, but time elapsed would depends upon level of urgency or his availability. I would definitely recommend him to my family and friends. read more
