I had the hardest time getting a personal reference for a colonoscopy, so as a last ditch attempt, I tried Yelp. I'm so glad I did, since I found Dr. Kogan. There was an initial visit to talk through the procedure, go through any questions I had. Worth noting, Dr. Kogan was booked out for several months. After the office visit, I went to get the laxative prep. It's now in pill form which I have heard is much better than the liquid form. Prep involved not eating certain foods 4 days in advance. 6 PM the night before the procedure is when laxatives and water is consumed. This is repeated 5 hours before the procedure. Day of procedure, went in at 8:30 and was out by 11:00. The procedure itself took less than 15 minutes. All in all, I had a little anxiety going in, but Dr. Kogan and staff comforted me with their professionalism and empathy throughout the process. read more

Dr. Kogan was fine for the exam. His staff messed up scheduling a procedure TWO separate times. They miscommunicate, leave vague messages, and their record keeping system doesn't reflect reality. The first staff to answer their line says something different than staff that supposedly makes appointments. I'm done. read more

Was referred to this office by my doctor and they asked if I seen another GI before they denied me service because they claim they don't see patients for 2nd opinions. They made that determination without asking me what I wanted to be seen for. Incredible. What a joke. read more

We've had only one visit so far, but I was impressed. The communication is state of the art and they do like to stay in touch. I would recommend signing up on the Patient Portal for all your communication needs, but to their credit, they do answer the phone. Dr. Kogan is very present during your visit. He is knowledgeable, actually read up on our case before seeing us and remembered what he read. I'm impressed again. We were not rushed. We were treated with dignity. We were impressed. I can't say that enough. My only hope is that this level of attention continues throughout our relationship with Dr. Kogan. My "gut" feeling is that it will! read more

I was supposed to go in this week Jan 31st and was just informed that the doctor would not be able to see me (late airline issue) and therefore they would need to reschedule me in April.....Seriously, April? Dr. Kogan has been my GE specialist for many years. He listens to his patients, not his assumptions. If symptoms are unclear, that's why there are medical tests. Dr Kogan's ability to both question carefully and listen carefully have been of great help to me. My digestive was system was in revolt, rejecting foods I could always consume. I was steadily losing weight. Taking my concerns as seriously as I did, he ordered lab test to rule out potential causes and started me on one medication which would address the reactions I was describing while a diagnosis was sought. My digestive system quickly responded to the medication. I began to enjoy meals again and gain back the weight I had lost. Your review CH a minute ago I have struggled with serious and complicated chronic health problems for decades. It's always difficult to relocate and have to search for a new physician. As a former health care worker, I know that there is always a learning curve for physician, patient and office staff, especially if the patient gets sicker, as I did. I am so fortunate to have chosen Mark Kogan, MD as my physician. He is compassionate, kind and very knowledgeable. He is patient, respectful and willing to really listen to his patients. He goes out of his way to make sure his patients are taken care of. I have always felt that we are working together as a team and I have actually never experienced the level of care I have received here at any other physician's office. I am old so that's quite a few offices and physicians. I realize there have been issues with the office and calls etc. I believe during COVID these may have been somewhat more apparent and I believe that the physicians and office staff have been really trying very hard to address these issues. So I won't deduct any stars for that. I am so very grateful to have a physician like Dr. Kogan caring for me and wish all patients could have this experience with their provider. read more

I saw a lot doctors, but it's my first review ever. I must have to see a doctor a week ago, I was looking forward to do it. A short time before the visit, they called me and said that they had to reschedule my appoimant, so ok! So today I have this reschedule appoimant. I'm living about 40-50 min away without traffic, and on my way there was surprising big traffic today I realized that I will be late, I tried to call, but there was an automatic message, I decided to get there and was 10 minutes late. The mail they they send says suite 201, I have claustrophobia so I don't use the elevators, I run up on stairs to 201, It wasn't right suite, there people told me to go up to 601, I climbed the stairs to 601, this is not right, I had to go down to the first floor to check were is the doctor and it was 701. I spent another 13 minutes on this. As a result, I came and was late for 23 min, yes I'm late and it's my fault ... the receptionist began to say that doctor could not accept me because I was late, I said this is not a problem, but the receptionist began to ask me why I came to the doctor, what problems I have? I was uncomfortable to answer such questions. I just said that I have a lot of issues and I have seen many doctors in the past, but I am looking for someone I can trust and would like to get a second opinion, to which she told me: "if you have already seen another gastroenterologist, then the doctor does not accept patients for a second opinion". what nonsense!! First, I am also the same person as a doctor, who has circumstances in life that forceto be late or reschedule plans. So my first visit was canceled because the doctor changed his plans - this is normal, but if I am late - this is not normal, I saw reviews on their website as a person waited 40 minutes for his visit , And this is considered normal. Second, I do not have the right to a second, or even tenth opinion of a doctor? what kind of discrimination. read more

I've had multiple interactions with this doctor and his office. They rescheduled multiple times, saying the doctor was changing the days he worked. I might be able to understand once, but several times, every time we had an appointment, made it sound like the doctor had other issues. I did get an initial sit down with the doctor, which is required before a procedure. After all the paperwork, co-pay, authorizations were all done, the doctor's office called shortly before the procedure and abruptly cancelled it without explanation. I highly encourage people who need this type of work done to look elsewhere. read more

I never want Dr. Kogan to retire! He is one of these doctors that are on extinction... Dr. Kogan spends time with the patient asking questions, listening to the patient and educating the patient about their condition. He considers all the different options and works with the patient finding the correct approach for that patient's treatment. I went to a well known GI doctor before Dr. Kogan. I did not appreciated how rush that doctor was and he did not listen to my concerns. When I found doctor Kogan, I signed up for life to be his patient... So he can never retire!!!! read more

I just had a very successful colonoscopy at the capable hands of Dr Mark Kogan. He was very courteous, highly informative, patient with all my questions and thoroughly professional. Colonoscopies are not fun, but this one, which was my second, went very well, aside of the purging. I had no complications and feel 100% better knowing I am healthy and how to stay that way as Dr Kogan was very helpful with my dietary inquiries. I recommend him most highly. I also was very pleased with the East Bay Endoscopy Clinic which was equally professional, very attentive and pleasingly thorough. The staff is very personable and the clinic is very clean and technologically up-to-date. I was even provided with pictures of what the doctor saw which was quite fascinating, if just a little bizarre. As such, colonoscopies do not need to be pure hell. They can turn out quite well.
