She never punts on a recommendation and takes whatever you need to ask about seriously but nonetheless remains candid. She also keeps the communication friendly and encourages updates about more mundane things like work and such that give her insight into what's going on and such. Three important comments: 1) I am a guy and feel 110% comfortable with a female primary care physician (actually feel more comfortable with her than with my male doctors of yore); 2) DO NOT be late. Try it some time and see what I mean. You won't be late ever again! 3) Put your cell phone on vibrate or silent before you enter the office or again push those limits and see what happens. Don't worry, she's not a hard-ass; just trying to make sure we all respect each other and help her stay on schedule etc.

I have had an epically fantastic experience. Everyone involved has been professional, accessible & on schedule for appointments & any follow-up inquiries I had. I live in Marin so after the first appointment in SF, all other care, including the surgery occurred in Marin. Having had a prior replacement, which was relatively easy for me, I knew what to expect. If that was easy, this has been a breeze. I was standing without holding onto anything immediately after surgery. No trouble sleeping all night in a comfortable position. Followed all PT exercises as recommended. Now, at the 4-month mark I can walk 4-5 miles a day with no stiffness or pain & I'm walking up/down stairs the right way. Both of those took 7 months last time. I am extremely pleased. Highly recommend Dr. Barry. He's an excellent surgeon.

For me, it meant a reverse shoulder replacement and two complete knee replacement surgeries. She listened to my questions and the order of the surgeries, explained her thoughts and recommendations. I left with a plan. My confidence in her abilities was high. My husband subsequently had several major heart problems that required surgeries and long stretches in the hospital. It was over 12 months before I could get back to the plan Dr. LaRoque had established. I had been moving a man who weighed more than twice my body weight. I was in worse shape. She didn't judge or say anything other than that she understood. She ordered new tests and offered to meet via video call so I could be home caring for my husband. I had the tests done and she spoke with the surgeons she thought would be best for my surgeries. I just completed the reverse shoulder replacement surgery and am very pleased. Some of the issues were about my kidneys and I became alarmed. He said "people your age often have this". I asked what I could do about it and he answered "nothing". Then I was denied insurance. The reason they gave said: Chronic Kidney Disease". I was shocked as the Doctor had never mentioned this or the seriousness of my condition. He is the worst, uncaring physician I have ever known and a danger to me. I am looking for another doctor for the rest of this year.
