I called and made an appointment. I told the guy what was wrong with my oven because this is the 2nd time it happened. The control panel got wet and fritzed. The technician shows up, makes a phone call and no one has the part. So he charges me $95 show up fee and does not leave me the part number or name. What did I pay for?? Came highly recommended by friends. Im sure the service man doesn't represent the entire company. We provided the call taker with make of our refrigerator along with the error code. Repair man wasn't in my kitchen 2 minutes before telling me they didn't service that brand of fridge. Intimated it was poor quality. Two days after Christmas our washing machine stopped working - Murphy's Law at it again! My husband called Rich Monday morning (today) and received not only a quick call back, but said he'd be on his way in 20 minutes. Called on Friday to see about a repair to be done on my Electrolux dryer, and was put in touch with Rich. When we spoke, he asked me to text him the model & serial number so he could check on the parts, so I did exactly that. Got no response that he received the info, so I sent another text later that day...and again, no response. I know it was the right number, because it was the same cell number I called him on. Here I sit on the following Tuesday, still no response. Luckily I had called another local business on Monday morning, they were very responsive, and came out same day. The issue was diagnosed, part was in stock, and my dryer was repaired. I'm assuming this was an honest mistake, but none the less, put me in a bit of a bind. read more

CArlos came by and said nothing was wrong ... we had to point bout the missing part ! He took a Picture on his phone and said he would go to the appliance store and get back to me .ive called several times in the past week only to get voicemail and no one calls back ! A technician came on time but just pushed the button on our oven , (NO DIAGNOSTICS) and said the oven doesnt turn on . Thats what my wife and I told before coming and when he got here. We were charged $75 for NOTHING! Told parts not available. Called the office to complain and basically have had no response. DONT GO TO Cortez. They hire contractors!!! read more

For over 30 years I have called on them for repairs so when my AC/Heating broke I called them. They diagnosed the problem and said they would get back with an estimate and set up replacement. I never got a call. I called Rob back three times and was told he would get back to me with an estimate of the work. He never did. My last call (yesterday) was never returned. I called for repair of my refrigerator ice maker as I had broken off the shutoff handle. The ice maker wouldn't stop making ice and it had to be cleaned out constantly. I called on a Sunday and got a Monday morning appointment which was great. Carlos the technician called me to talk through the call needs and ended up solving the problem over the phone - he was so patient and kind and saved me $75! This man is a lifesaver! I had originally been referred to another appliance repair company, but that company was booked through February. They were kind enough to refer me to Rich. I called him yesterday afternoon and he returned my call within 30 minutes. I explained the problem I had been having with my dryer and he narrowed it down to 2 possible issues, gave me an estimate over the phone and even offered to come out same day! I told him he could just come this morning instead. He showed up on time today. He's very professional. He fixed the dryer within 20 minutes and now I am enjoying having a working dryer catching up on laundry! We are so thankful for the speedy, efficient service! Rich didn't even come to my house, and he helped me today! AND called me back at 7:30 pm to check in on how my refrigerator was doing. This morning we awoke to a somewhat warm fridge, maybe 45 degrees... And being in the food industry I know that's not a good sign. I called Rich just based on his Yelp reviews. He walked me through checking for buildup in my freezer, and then buildup on my coils underneath fridge. Come to find out, we stuffed our fridge full (for thanksgiving) over some vents (where drawers belonged) and covered vents we didn't know we're back there! Whew.... :) I was so impressed and pleased he was willing to help me on the phone, and then to call me later tonight! I will be calling you the next time I need you! I have used Rich Cortez in the past and been happy with the service. He is no longer working at his business. I thought I'd still go with them so I called to schedule a service appointment for my leaking washing machine. We scheduled an appointment for later that week. I was told that someone would call me Thursday night to narrow down the appointment window on Friday. No one called. I called them and left a message Friday morning and never heard back from anyone. The technician never came for the appointment. I still haven't heard from them. Very unprofessional. I ended up going with another company and was very satisfied with the work and customer service. My dishwasher was not performing well and left our dishes still dirty at the end of the cycle. I trusted the wisdom of the Yelp reviewewrs, and called on Rich for help. My conversation with RIch validated all the positive comments. Rich retrurned my call quickly - less than 1/2 hour. He did his best to asses the situation by phone to save us both time. The first question he asked was how old my washer was. When I told him it was 1 1/2 years old he claimed it should be something that I can do myself. He made a simple recomendation that he believed would solve the problem (using vineger to clean the washer) - and it did!!! So, did: - I get to see Rich in action - No - Rich come to out to service my Dish-Washer, allowing me to grade his performance - No Nonetheless, Rich was able to fix my problem! All for the cost of a 5 minute phone call with no service bill at the end to pay! So, will I call on Rich for any and all future applicance issues - 100% Yes! read more

Rich is my hero today ... why? Because my dishwasher died, my wife got sick (no, my wife is not my dishwasher) and she was very unhappy about the dishwasher. I am super busy with work and don't have time to deal with picking up kids, cleaning up the house and fixing the dishwasher. Now back to the hero part. So I call Rich because my wife says all of her friends call Rich (and he has superhero status on Yelp). Wow, he really is a superhero. Over the phone, he immediately told me that it was one of two things: a circuit board or a fuse (not your typical auto fuse, but a funky little cylinder next to the circuit board). Sure enough ... it was the fuse. I drove up to the local appliance parts store and 30 minutes later the dishwasher was back in business. This was immediately followed by my wife saying, "you are amazing!" To which I said, "thank you." And now I am saying thank you to you Rich. I used Rich Cortez before he retired. He would get a perfect 10. 5 stars would not do him justice. In April I used Rich Cortez and Sons. I had work done on my washing machine. The part was not put in properly. The machine is operational, but does not drain properly and certain loads are impossible to do anymore. I have now called at least 4 times since the work was done to get it fixed, no one has called me back yet. Very frustrating! read more

And then as he was walking out he said "you should focus on fixing other things in your house before you replace the furnace." Firstly, you are way out of line to comment on a family you know nothing about or sick parents where kids are working multiple jobs to take care of them and pay their bills. Contacted Rich on Monday night, he called back the same night, we discussed the problem I had with the spin cycle of my washing machine not working, therefore the clothes were soaked after completing the washing cycle. Rich recommended I take a look at the Sears San Leandro inventory to see if they had any dent/scratched washers with full warranty which are typically offered at a significant discount (~50%). After doing so, I could see the cost was still going to be too high for my budget so I called Rich the next morning and he said he would come by in a few minutes...which is exactly what he did. He reviewed the problems with the washer, got right to work, and completed the job in short order for a reasonable price. Our washing machine started leaking and taking bites out of our clothes. We called Richard and he came to our house to see what he could do. After he diagnosed a bad boot he told us that the repair was going to cost about $350 in parts - not counting the labor and that our best course of action was not to ask him to fix it because it would cost more than the machine was worth and it would take a couple of weeks to get the parts in (if they were even available). He wouldn't take any payment for coming out to our house. He was pleasant, prompt, and very polite. He is AMAZING! read more

Once on the washing machine that he literally helped me trouble shoot over the phone FOR FREE and then a second time over a garbage disposal that again he helped me fix over the phone AGAIN for FREE again. There's no way I will let him give me any additional free advice because this man deserves to be paid for his expertise. He is a man of integrity and is so helpful. I know sometimes it can be hard to find an appliance person that you feel you can trust, but I would trust this man in a heartbeat and you can bet he won't overcharge you. Fridge broke yesterday called them in the afternoon. I got told they would be there between 9-12 today. He showed up at 8:59, diagnosed the problem quickly. Complete rip off. Called to make an appointment and gave scheduler the GE oven model number and error code and asked they be sure the technician bring the parts so he could fix it. Minimum $75 to show up. Technician (Carlos) shows up with no information, calls in the part number and tells me they don't make replacement parts for my GE oven and I have to buy used or a new oven and he won't do either. And tells me how the old owner used to do too much free! He just left and I am on line staring at 5 firms that sell the control panel for less than his service call including Sears!!! read more

My dryer stopped working and I was at a loss to find a good appliance repair person and after trying friends looking for someone I started searching the internet. After searching a bit, I called Rich Cortez and left a message. Rich called me back within the day, asked what the problem was, he was able to determine the possible issues. I made the appt. for this morning and he called prior to arriving at my home. He was great and had the very part I needed and was done within 20 min. I had him come out to fix my dryer which was making horrible noses while tumbling. He said I need to clean the lint trap after every drying cycle. Um, I do?? Fixed! Wait....a year later, it's doing it again. Oh well, it works for now. I'll just run it into the ground I guess. My washer dial only works for one cycle. After finding Rich on Yelp, I called him to come look at a 372 day old dishwasher that Whirlpool would not fix. It is, after all, seven days out of warranty! Rich came the same day, quickly found that the motherboard had been fried, made a few calls, and advised me not to fix it. He encouraged me to deal with Whirlpool to get them to stand behind their product, indicating that the repair would wind up costing me almost as much as a new machine. To top it off, I basically had to twist his arm to tell me how much I owed him for the service call. Two thumbs up, Rich! I am fighting with Whirlpool now, hopefully with a good outcome... read more

When this was Rich Cortez and Son they had great customer service. Not anymore. I called for a service or cleaning on a gas wall unit they installed years ago that was smelling funny. I didn't want to chance anything with gas. Their technician showed up, banged on the heater with a tool, checked to see if the pilot lit, said the smell was fine and asked if we have carbon monoxide detectors-we do. That's it. He said all fine and charged me $75. The smell persisted so my husband took the unit apart and it was full of soot. The tech hadn't cleaned it or addressed why it's running this way. My husband did more that their "professional" service, by far. I can not, in good conscience after this first hand experience, recommend this company to anyone who has safety concerns. Apparently, they couldn't be bothered to do what we hired them for. Shameful service for an issue so important. read more

He sent someone who was suppose to follow up and even after three calls to the girl who answers and says she will have someone call us and NO ONE CALLED BACK. I called two weeks later and said I was going to write a review and immediately got a call back...Rob came out. Looked at it, called to tell what he could do to fix our refrigerator water line on Monday, asked for our address on text, said he would call later Monday to tell us what time he would be there on Tuesday....... it's now Thursday night and haven't heard a word. His Dad came to fix my oven, He had to do some rewiring for the light bulb outlet. It appeared to be all fixed, working fine. Well, there must be a short somewhere, because it keeps burning out the light bulb. I've gone through 3 bulbs since October since he fixed it. There is for sure a problem! I have called the office a number of times, left messages. I have spoken to Ron several times and he always has an excuse that he can't make it from one week to the next. Then he did make a date, then never showed up. Needless to say, this is not a professional way of doing business. They obviously do not stand behind their work.
