I've used Steve 4 times in pleasanton and Livermore. I had a sub zero and now a GE refrigerator. He has been prompt, courteous,clean and just a nice guy...also reasonably priced. Today, (Saturday) with a heat wave just starting, called me right away after I requested service, and after looking at my records he walked me through a process to troubleshoot my refrigerator issue. I didn't actually hire Steve's Appliance, but was happy enough that I wanted to send a shout out on Yelp. My Speed Queen front load washer has had issues since Mid-year 2023. I bought a part on Amazon and was going to replace long ago. I've tolerated the "Door Open" and "Overflow" codes for so long, re-started many loads of clothes etc.. finally, the door locked and couldn't get open. Eventually after a night unplugged I did but had to drain all the water. I decided that was it, I just wanted someone to come fix it. I called Steve's Appliance after seeing so many great reviews in the area on Nextdoor, then Yelp and Google. I was disappointed on the website it didn't say they would work on a Speed Queen. However, I called anyhow and got voice mail. I left all the error codes, sounds, etc.. everything in detail. I kind of now figured it needed a door latch. Almost immediately after I hung up, I got a call back. They don't carry parts for my machine so I'd have to wait to get them from Fresno. He was happy to have me send the model number/serial number to order the parts. It was clearly spelled out the cost to come out, the cost for the part and the cost for the repair. I really appreciate that. In the end, I decided since I have to wait for the part anyhow, I'd seen the youtube video and would do it myself. I got the part in 2 days and just repaired it myself today. He gave me great pointers about being careful with the wire.. I really appreciated the fast response, detail in helping me, and the reassurance diagnosing what was wrong so I could buy the right part and get it done. I still have issues with a dishwasher and may end up giving a call back for that, but for now, just happy to have had the conversation with him. read more

Just like many others, I got excited to see Steve's reviews and called him for my dishwasher. Here is modus Operanda the father and son team uses. Its simple. They charge you $110 to just show up at your door. Unless, it is something very simple like a loose connection or something, they will quote you a high repair price basically to discourage you to get any repair services done. Job done, they move on to the next customer for another $110. Hardly spent time in looking at the appliance and do more accurate diagnosis. He says that that $110 is just to come to the door and does not even pay towards the repair cost should you decide to get the repair done from Steve. I personally think that lot of the reviews are fake. Please be prepared for a simple diagnosis from Steve and son to suggest to you that replacement is better than repair as that is his objective. Unfortunately for us we had a bad experience with Steve's appliance and repair. Per request I sent the oven serial number and pics of the broken hinge. They were able to locate new parts and then set an appointment. When they arrived they didn't have the part, charged me for the service call. When I requested if they could at least take the stuck door out they told me it would be a significant additional cost, needs 2 folks (which they had for the appointment) and I would have to set another appointment. All in all lack of clarity, high cost and no help. Called my cousin, got the door out in 30 min, ordered the part online and fixed it with cousins help. read more

Steve is an old school appliance repair savant who will save you a ton of money and fix your appliances efficiently and properly. Our family has been using Steve for decades. But he can be polarizing, so here are a few tips to work with him well: -- Have as much info handy as possible, like the model number, and tell him what happened (facts only please!). Provide him input ahead of time, like pictures of what's broken and the surroundings. -- Listen patiently as he thinks out aloud and tries to figure out what's going on, so he can bring the spare parts he needs and finish the job as efficiently as he can. He's also trying to gauge whether he can help and is trying to save you the $95 he charges for a house visit. Our most recent experience with Steve a couple of weeks ago saved us about $800. Our microwave stopped working. A similar model would have cost $650, plus $200 for a fitted face plate, plus $160 install and haulage - which added up to almost $1100 (including tax). We didn't want to spend that kind of money just before the holidays. And we wanted to show our kids how to live sustainably, versus taking the easy route and throwing an appliance away without attempting to salvage a few more years out of it. So we called Steve. We sent him the info he needed (model number, photos, etc.) and walked him through what we thought was going on. He said it was likely the door mechanism and showed up with the parts the next day. About an hour later, our microwave was up and running. Total cost was about $300: $95 for the house call, $100 for his time, $100 for the parts. On the way out, I mentioned our refrigerator was acting up, and he gave me a few (gratis) tips on how to defrost it properly. Thank you Steve! I reached out to Steve on a Sunday when I realized I would have to address the issues with my washing machine. We've had it for almost 13 years and I was finding it filled with water after it sat for a few days. Steve was able to diagnose the problem right away. He let me know what the repairs would involve. He then called around to see if parts were still available and got back to me. He gave me a quote for parts and labor, which I thought was very reasonable. He discussed with me the benefits of repairing the machine versus just replacing it. Because the machine was not the most energy efficient and had a few other issues, we decided to replace it. Our GE Monogram fridge seems to always have a problem every 2-3 years and it's always a pain to schedule a GE service guy to come out in a timely manner. What a scam! Charged his service fee and left us hanging. Steve came out to diagnose our refrigerator changed a sensor and charged us his service fee. Within 24 hrs the problem continued. I called Steve back and he said he had no clue what the problem was and would call his parts distributor to see if they knew what to do next (I thought it was was weird to call a parts warehouse for advice). Then he never followed up. I called him back and he finally answered and clearly hadn't called his parts distributor and said he'd probably have to change the motherboard. We were willing to try it. When I had an appliance need, I reached out to my community on Nextdoor. Everybody recommends Steve's appliance service in Pleasanton. my oven door fell off its hinge and I did not know what to do so I propped it close with the dining room chair!!! I called Steve's appliances on Monday morning. a gentleman called me as he was leaving one repair and headed to a second repair. He was so caring and kind. He listened as I explained and was very helpful and willing to fit me in on the same day. Coincidentally, our neighbor came over and fixed the oven door in a jiffy. He also said to us if I couldn't do it, I would recommend Steve's appliance! we live in a day and age where nobody calls you back. Washing machine was on the fritz a few weeks ago. It stopped right in the middle of a heavy load cycle and flashed an LE error code. Based on numerous Nextdoor reviews, I contacted Steve for an estimate and to see if he could come out and take a look. He was very honest and told me that he was not an authorized LG warranty provider but he would do some research and call me back (which he did on a Saturday nonetheless). They're so professional and easy to work with. Although they came to our home to work on our dishwasher, our refrigerator freezer had an issue with the icemaker. We talked about what I try to do to fix it, and they told me what part I actually needed to buy off of Amazon to fix it myself. I have a microwave that was custom fitted into the maple cabinetry and to purchase a new one entailed purchasing a new face plate, and new microwave and then having someone modify the cabinets. Most companies are happy to sell you a microwave without installation. At the end of the day, it made more sense to repair what I had versus throwing out a microwave that is 20 years old and made better than the microwaves of today. Steve and his son came over and took care of everything in two days. Once day to assess what parts I needed and another day to install the part and reinstall the microwave. Wow, what a great find this outfit is! Our French Door Kenmore ice-maker decided to malfunction late last night. In the past, I used Rich Cortez Appliance Repair and was thoroughly happy with his service. Unfortunately, Cortez retired. Unfortunately, most of the reviews after 2019 show much dissatisfaction with the people now running his business. So, went to Yelp and did some research. That's how i found Steve's Appliance Service. The wire bail mechanism that allows you to turn the ice-maker on/off came loose. I tried to replace it into it's mounting slots but it wouldn't engage the on/off switch. Then I called Steve's Appliance. Of all the reviews, Steve's is, obviously local with a Pleasanton address and phone number. The info on his website says he services the Tr iValley area. He's rated at 4.5 - star. I called him at 09:30 AM and he answered his mobile phone. I described to him what I thought the problem was and he suggested that I try to 'put the wire bail back in' because if he came out, it would be $95 for the in-person visit. I told him I would give another shot and if I was successful, I would call him to cancel. He was fine with that and said he would be at my place between Noon and 2 PM. My attempt to get the wire bail device to engage the switch failed. I unloaded all the frozen foods out of both upper and lower freezer baskets into 2 large coolers in preparation of his house call. He called me at 11 AM and said he could be there in 15 minutes. I told him to come ahead. He arrived and he re-attached the wire bail in about 3 minutes. He did it totally from outside the unit and there was no disassembly involved. It was very apparent that he had done this many many times, before. But, here's the best part - he used his cellphone camera to take a photo inside the freezer where the wire bail lever is housed and explained to me what to do the next time it comes undone! Now that I know what to do the next time this happens, I should be able to fix it myself! While he was here, he inspected the whole unit and made some suggestions about maintenance. I can't say enough about this service! I felt that he, actually, didn't really want to charge me for the house call but I was so pleased that I whipped out the checkbook and wrote him a check for $95 and was so very happy to do so! He is now logged in my cellphone as I will not hesitate to call him, again, in the future if/when I need further service. Steve is very familiar/knowledgeable about refrigerators, returns calls and calls just before he gets on the road to your place as a courtesy. That's totally considerate and professional! I started getting calls and emails from many Gutter businesses - as many as 7 - 12 per day. And it was obvious that many of them were not even local outfits. Strangely, they were all from Angi (formerly Angi's List) and it was really bothersome. I'm so happy that Jim answered and dealt with me, personally and on the same day! I am providing my experience of Steve from Steves Appliance. Stay clear of this person and business. Steve still has not finished an ice maker repair he started weeks ago on a Subzero icemaker. He mentioned he had to call Subzero to understand the install. Not sure why he wouldn't have the knowledge since it is his craft. He was bossy, rude and unprepared, he used inappropriate language while attempting the repair multiple times and clearly is not in a good state of presence to be interacting with customers. If you enjoy being berated. yelled at, have your appliance worse than when he entered your home Steve is your guy. For the rest of us, we will look elsewhere for a professional who has the knowledge and social skills to provide a great service to each customer. Steve knows his stuff. Our 12 year old dishwasher was not draining completely at the end of the cycle. I contacted Steve on a Thursday, and he came to my home the next morning. Steve took his time and was very methodical in making sure he checked everything before telling me the problem. He ran the dishwasher multiple times and then drained it. Each time, there was excess water in the bottom of the tub. He checked the air gap, the garbage disposal, and the hoses. No clogs anywhere. He said the drain pump was no longer working properly because he could see that not enough water was coming out of the hose when he disconnected it and drained the dishwasher. He said the part is not made anymore. He said with Black Friday sales coming up, we should be able to find another dishwasher at a good price. read more
