Solid grocery store with good bulk deals but if you are driving there it is not worth it. Parking lot is a nightmare!

So the store is big but it seems like many of their goods/products are not that fresh. The produce seems like they need to be thrown out. Prices are not that great. They advertise a lot on social media platform. I came to check out the what the hype was and left disappointed. I remember when they first opened, it was not bad but it seems like it went downhill a lot. Note that if you pay by credit card (Visa or Mastercard), they charge a 2.4% fee. Been to Rice World Supermarket (aka. China World) many times. The stall inside, Hotpot Hero, cooks dumplings and baos. Parking lot is a nightmare (avoid at all costs) but the weekly specials for fruits and vegetables can't be beat. Clientele is all Asians so be ready to fight for your personal space. I've been here a couple of times now, it's quite a busy shopping center with lots of Asian products. Lots of produce, some fresh seafood, fresh poultry and meats. Lots of other Asian products like sauces, noodles, condiments etc. The prices for some items are pretty good. It is usually quite busy and is pretty tight in some areas especially the produce section. The parking lot is a bit of a nightmare......... read more

First time at rice world. I was just looking for rice and didn't know they had other things. It's basically an asian supermarket. The prices on rice are good especially if you buy bulk. My only complaint is they don't accept credit cards and trying to find parking is tough cause its busy. I will definitely go back to explore further. I don't carry cash or use my debit card so please fix this. read more

This was actually one of my favourite places to purchase my grocery when I was in Richmond. However over the years I've noticed that the quality of the produce had deteriorated. The stuff they have for sale now is rotten or close to rotten with mould growing on them. I still come here for the selection of asian drinks and snacks. They occasionally do have a good price on condiments and other canned/bottled items. But ALWAYS check the expiry date! read more

I came here when it first opened up, and then I didn't come again. I would drive by this place with my dear, and she would never suggest going to this place to buy groceries, and then this past weekend due to changing it up a little, and needing to just find a place to walk, we ended up in here. I pulled into the front parking lot, and found a spot, just note... this is Richmond.. the stereotype is true.. if you know what I mean! We walked into this place finally to see what has changed in this supermarket, and here is my observation. I think I expected more when I entered, the place, as in building, is not that old, but when you come in.. it feels aged, and with the not so bright future lighting that most people would be used to (ie. T&T, Osaka) it's not the clean, comfortable place you maybe used to. Because this place is so big, even if there are a lot of people in here, it doesn't feel as crazy as going to the other Chinese grocery stores in Richmond. It feels as big as a Costco in here, with isles... and isles of dried foods, there's a whole centre isle dedicated to rice.. hence it in their name outside the store... Rice World. This place feels like how Superstore used to feel to me, unorganized, a little chaotic, and not much in terms of quality, or more like unknown foods. There's a lot of wasted space here.. which is used to show repetitive product, so you will see a lot of the same. This was the case when we went to the back refrigeration isle, the cold area was layered with big round E-Fu (yee mien) noodles, where we ended up picking up a pack... due to my dear wanting it for dinner.. then later on we also picked up a pack of pressed tofu to go along with the dish. Didn't really like the selection of meats, as they didn't look too appealing, that and also the vegetables, but if you are in it for dried food or canned food, this is going to be pure heaven to you. The place feels like your local small Chinese supermarket, just expanded by space.. 10 fold. If you are looking for a no nonsense place to shop.. come here. read more

Rice World Supermarket - It feels like a cross of a bad Superstore and a Costco. - International Grocery Near Me - Richmond, British Columbia

Not too sure if this place is related to the Rice World that is in China town, but this is the one that I come to the most to get Asian groceries that I cannot get at T&T. The thing about this place is that it reminds me of the dingy smelling places that are in Mainland China. The goods can be somewhat disorganized and haphazard when you compare it to T&T or Yaohan Centre. What I do notice are: 1. They have a huge variety of rice. All kinds. 2. Dry spices. Again, all kinds and lots of variety. I am guaranteed to find licorice root here. It's hit and miss at T&T 3. Snacks, again a huge selection. 4. And finally instant noodles. They have an entire aisle packed full of instant noodles. Prices are pretty good especially for the Asian goods. Don't expect too much of assistance from the associates, I don't think their English skills are too high. Know what you want to get, and get it. I do hear a lot of Mainland Chinese speakers in here tho, so I guess they like the place. Crowds are a lot smaller than the T&T or Yaohan, and it's not as crazy. read more

DON'T BUY SEAFOOD HERE Did you know the seafood stall here is not owned by Rice World? After telling them what you want, you are asked to pay right away. I came to buy geoduck and was presented with something that looked like it's gone BAD (very dark in colour, with no pieces of the usual pearly white meats). The employees told me that geoduck always looked like that. Anyone who eats geoduck will know that that did NOT look fresh. I could not take something that's gone bad home but the employees refused to compensate me. That's like saying they can just sell things that are gone bad and refuse refund because they've cut it up. How would I know it's gone bad if they didn't cut it up? The employees decided to call their boss to come and discuss with me. I waited for 15 minutes until this man comes only to repeat what the employees said. HE EVEN REFUSED TO LOOK AT THE GEODUCK. I asked him why he would not even look, and he said in mandarin, "BECAUSE I AM ALWAYS RIGHT". Wow. The lack of humility and customer service here was just as disgusting as the geoduck they tried to scam me with. I urge everyone to think twice before buying seafood here just because of the convenience or lower price point. New Chiu Yeung Seafood or T&T is a much better option. I recommend Rice World to make it CLEAR that they don't own the seafood stall, or reconsider this partnership with that unethical seafood store. read more

Basically Costco for Asians. Lots of Asian brand food items, household items, bakery, beauty products, etc. Prices are slightly lower than the regular chain Asian supermarkets, but not significantly so. Some good deals can be found occasionally, if you're buying bulk cases of items. I stop by sometimes for Asian snacks & packed drinks, but only if I'm in the area. Cash or debit only, no credit cards accepted here. Lots of parking spots available in the large parking lot in front of the place. read more

This is the go-to place for rice--an entire aisle full of rice bags, probably about 20 different ones to choose from as pic indicates; I shld've looked to see if there was a gluten-free one since hear that's healthier lol. You come here for the perception of better prices b/c of its warehouse feel, with its high ceilings, plain flooring & not so bright lighting, quite large, no cozy feel; certainly not service-oriented, neither the shelf ppl seem want to help nor the cashiers greet you--granted, they're not here to emulate Safeway lol. It's got all you need from a supermarket, without the produce. Does have meat & seafood. Amazingly, their ice cream selection is pretty impressive: ben & jerry, Purdy's & Breyer's. Back to the cashiers, seems they only have 2 cashiers open though there's at least another few empty lanes, no matter how busy it is. I come here for my dry spices and Hot Pot flavour packs. What's this? If you like Hot Pot, in particular the spicy Szechuan flavour hot pots then you can buy these little packages of soup bases for hot pot. They have all kinds of varieties. I know you can get them at Yao Han and TNT's but I like to come here, cause it's not crowded, ample parking you don't need to fight over and the whole experience is less stressful. Ok it's not as fancy and stuff is either on a shelf or in a box. What I do like to find are the instant noodles. They have tons of them. The Chinese peppers, dried mushrooms, bamboo shoot in a package, mustard pickles, RICE! All kinds of RICE!! There is a frozen food section and a fresh produce. You can't get everything, but there are some things I like to get that are cheaper here than other places. It's affordable, big, easy to shop and I can RELAX while shopping in a Chinese shopping center! Now where else can you find that! read more

They have a plethora of brands of every asian food imaginable from China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, etc. They also have a standard grocery section which is actually pricier than Crystal Mall. So since I've last been in, this Chinese version of No Frills has gone up majorly In price for staples. They are now more expensive than stores with frills. They do not take debit anymore and have converted to Cash and carry while they do take offer monthly tabs for restaurants. Ummmm. Wouldn't it be feasible to actually pass the risk to the bank instead and pay 3% commission? It's no longer worth it to go to them when white supermarkets are offering the same thing at a much cheaper price now. It's not like the old days when they were the other game in town for Chinese ethnic products. They don't even offer the cheapest rice now lol. Shop around and you will find white wholesalers to be offering it at a much cheaper price. read more

This is my lovely alternative to T&T supermarket for cheap asian snacks! It's a little walk from Aberdeen skytrain station, but this market is PACKED with stuff priced so low that it was hard for me to not overstock. (I always end up getting weeks worth of snacks.....) There's a lot of brands that you've probably never heard of though as they could be from China or Singapore or Thailand, and the signs sometimes are written in "engrish", but nonetheless, I enjoy shopping here a lot! There's of course more to it than just snacks; it's a warehouse-sized supermarket after all! It's best to just check it out for yourself, and oh, do come by car. You may just end up with a trunk full of stuff. Some parking spaces outside and bus stops at walking distance. Few a few different items and brands and alright sized supermarket but the quality of the foods are just alright. Mostly packaged desserts, bottle of drinks, canned and boxed sauces and foods. Alright service, no greetings, no smile, don't talk much to you or look into your eyes. The location is a bit out of the way (we lived in Richmond for five years, but we'd never heard of this place) but it was definitely worth the trip. I wouldn't call the prices "rock-bottom" by any stretch of the imagination. Most items are either the same price, or cost a dollar less than they would at regular Asian supermarkets or Extra Foods. By Vancouver standards, however, this place is as cheap as it gets. They have items available from all over Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia) as well as some Western products (Soda, Aquafina, Doritos etc.) The fresh meat section was closed when we came, but frozen foods (dumplings!) were still available. There's a small bakery as well as a produce aisle filled with your usual Asian fruits and veggies (Dragonfruit or Thai Chillis anyone?) We came for the snacks and drinks (Banana Milkshake Candy from Indonesia, Almond Pocky, Vita, White Peach drinks) and found a great selection to choose from. I even found some Korean snacks I hadn't seen elsewhere, so I snapped those up right away as well. We really appreciated the fact that all the products and aisles were labelled in English and Chinese. Remember to bring your own reusable bags if you don't want to pay for a plastic bag for 5 cents. read more

Check expiry date and be careful on things you buy here. I never buy meat and seafood. Frozen dim sum are ok because I recognize the local factory. Fruit, vegetable and some rice brand are okay to buy. Overall just be aware of fake food. read more

This is a Costco sized Asian supermarket! If you want hard to find cool Asian foods (especially Chinese) then this is the place. As a vegetarian I bypassed the "uterus" for sale. I have no idea whose uterus, but I was fine to stick with the crackers, rice and noodles thank you very much. They even had 4-5 different kinds of vegetarian ramen. I have yet to crack them open but I am super excited. The selection is 5 star for sure and if not for that this would be a 3 star or less. There is no sign on the door saying they only take cash and debit. Thankfully my friend bailed me out since all I had on me was my credit card. Also, there were only 2 lines open for check out. It took 35 min from the time we got in line till we got through check out. Ridiculous. Staff was pretty dead pan - not much customer service there. So, I would say go for sure, but just have cash or debit and be prepared for this to be a really lengthy excursion. read more

I love this place! It is by far my favorite Asian grocer. As some other reviewer said: rock-bottom prices. This store reminds me Aldi Supermarket in Australia. They cut costs by stacking open boxes everywhere instead of paying someone to take the items out of the box and organize them on shelves. Works for me! I actually feel this place is a hidden gem. Not many people know about it still. There is lots of space to walk around and it's never crowded, unlike Yaohan or PriceSmart. As for inventory, they have an amazing selection of rice, sauces, snacks, junk food, noodles, drinks, frozen foods, etc. Not just Chinese, but Japanese, Korean, etc. The produce and meat sections are a little weak, but good enough for me. They also have the cheapest BBQ meats (BBQ pork, roast pork, soy sauce chicken, duck) in Richmond by far. A few suggestions for management: - Accept credit cards. The two things I don't like about are they only accept cash/debit, and there's not a lot of varieties in the produce section. If they accept credit card, I would shop there everyday. Poor service no staff inside the stall, it is difficult to find what I need.
