My partner and I visited this store last weekend to buy a rice cooker and saw one on sale. The staff person in charge of that section said it was a display model, but insisted it was as good as new and had "never been used". However, she also went out of her way to mention the sale was final and then gave us warranty information to address any problems with the manufacturer. Sure enough, as soon as we plugged it in we found the power cord was no good (loose causing the machine to lose power repeatedly every few minutes). Now we're stuck with a $358 piece of junk and we have to chase after the manufacturer to see if the warranty is any good. Obviously, we won't return to this H-Mart. read more

Love me some Hmart, the set up is exactly like back at home. We went near closing time and was able to score some 30% deli foods to bring back to the house. We picked up some onigiri, salmon sushi, cut up fruits that were very sweet. Service was non existent but that's the norm for most Asian markets. read more

I love H mart! Great produce and protein deals available! Sometimes you can really score a great deal and the quality is the best. The store is big and clean and also has a "ready to eat" section and bbq chicken restaurant inside. I will always encourage others to visit international supermarkets - so intimidating as it may seem - it really isn't once you're in there browsing. Each isles are very narrow and sometimes hard to find what I need to buy. Especially around cashier is very chaotic. But pls keep going inside. I like their already cooked dishes for grab to go especially Korean fried chicken. Honestly I'm overwhelmed Aberdeen centre's food court sometimes. So I come here for quick snack with quitness. We are browsing at Hmart Richomnd on the past August long weekend, and we found Hmart had these amazing looking seafood platters. We couldn't leave without giving it a try, so we have got the small platter. The small platter definitely could feed two persons for sure. There are variety of seafood such as a big lobster, small soup crabs, scallops, octopus and abalone. The platter also includes a small container of soup base for you if you like to stewed it, but we choose to cook it as a seafood hotpot. The seafood is not the best quality as they might be dead for a while. You will not want to get it if you care about the freshness. But overall the prices are not bad, and the package is very convenient. read more

So, H Mart is great if you're looking for specific Asian products and ingredients. The pros: + Free mall parking on the same level. + Cheap products and produce. The produce here is definitely a lot cheaper than your big name stores. If you're looking for some edible greenery, this isn't a bad place to get it. + They have a food court within the market that has BBQ Chicken which is some of my fave fried chicken ever. The cons: + Small, grungy, and disorganized. In this day and age where we need to be socially distancing, it's nearly impossible to do that at this H Mart location because the aisles are too small and there are large bins of products blocking the way. + Not the most helpful and friendly staff. The two most recent times I've come here, I've asked for help to find a certain product, and the staff said they didn't carry it. When I searched a little harder, I found the exact products I had asked for. I would say if you have a specific product that you're looking for then come to H Mart, but for me, it definitely won't be my weekly grocery store. read more

New Korean Fried Chicken spot! Simple,Tasty, and quite Moist. Secret Sweet flavour was spicy and sweet. Quite the perfect takeout on movie nights. Found this newly opened store inside the food court of H-mart Richmond . They offer a selection of just fried chickens and chicken rice cups . Several flavours to choose from and 2 caught my attention. With much self control, I took home only* a bowl of their fried chicken in signature flavour, Secret Sweet. It's sweet and spicy the battered chicken skins soak up all the sauce and flavour but still have a nice bite to it without being soggy It didn't leave a noticeable film of grease in my mouth which is The chicken was quite moist, with a mix of strips meat and bone-in thighs, didn't recall any wings. I quite like it. Nothing fancy, just good couch-potatoes/comfort food. You know these are freshly made when they still taste pretty good at the end of your movie The next flavour I will try is Gang-Jeong, which I believe is soy garlic and green onion. Their chicken rice cups are basically a meal on its own with chicken and vegetable on a bed of rice. They do look good in the heated cabinet. The Jamaican flavour tickles my fancy so I'll give that a try another time too. read more

Back again for some tasty spicy korean fried chicken. It's gone up $1 since I was last here, but still a great deal at $1 each. Also ordered some ttoekbukki (lukewarm) from the deli counter and an iced americano. I like that they use coffee ice cubes which keeps the drink from becoming diluted. I also come for the grilled mackerel and other dishes which are well priced and tasty. There's free parking and you can shop before of after you eat. Win-win for me. read more

I like to come here to buy a few things: their beef, their seafood, and the Hawaii papaya as it's Always cheap here ($2.88/lb) as if it's their feature product to get people come back. You can smell roasted red sweet potato when you are in the vegetable section. Sometimes they sell out the sweet potato fast when they rolled out the trolley carrying the freshly roasted sweet potatoes. We also like to get hot pot sliced meat here as it's cheaper than Chinese supermarket. However I find Other groceries here are generally more expensive. Oh their green onion can be as cheap as $1 for 3 bunches. I got some today. Their peeled garlic is a steal too! I have taken some photos of on sale items. read more

This is the only Korean market in the Richmond. It opened since Jan 2012 and I finally got a chance to go to Aberdeen center and checked it out. Hmart got a lot of selections of gochujang, ramen, condiments, seaweed, rice, etc. They also have a refrigerator section with frozen seafood for soondubu, frozen meats, mandoo, korean icecream, as well as marinated meats for BBQ. I found some premium grades of meats (kobe beef/wagyu) as well, but they're quite expensive. In general, it's new and clean. It's a good to shop for Korean groceries. I bought 2 packs of frozen buckwheat noodles $5.98 for 2 for weekly special, super good deal. The regular price is $6.99 each!! read more

I've never been to the H-mart downtown so I can't compare the two but from what I can see in the Richmond one, it's a hella-great-mart. (I tried for a good 2 minutes to think of a better H word, but failed). I don't eat Korean food often but when I do, I know where to go. There is an endless choice of Korean individually packed seaweed (I found out people usually eat it with rice as their meal... but I eat it straight out of the package), Korean sauces like bulgogi, side dishes (those yummy potatoes!), rice noodles, Korean maki rolls (a type of meat rolled with perserved vegetables), and Korean shipped seafoods and much more. And if you're thinking kimchi or hotpot, there's a huge selection of that here too - not to mention a bulk deli-like area where you can get fresh, pre-marinated meats and kimchi. Also tucked in the back of the store, there is a bakery and a mini food court with seating. I really like the food court for their jap chae and onion pancake. If you want to see something cool, there's this special machine that steams up these rice kernels and *POPS* out a fluffy rice cake type of food - tastes a little bland but very interesting to see it being formed. And what's a korean venue without socks ($2-3/each). Something else that was quite inexpensive there was the salmon sashimi (~$2.40/lb), which is a great deal! *nom nom* I think this is a wonderful addition to Aberdeen so get going! read more

The pears looked fine at the store but they became mushy and rotten the next day. I did not know if the cashier mishandled the pears when she weighed them and put them into the bag. Also, one male employee pushed the shopping cart passed us, then he went between a few female customers and passed them closely. It was rude that he did not say "excuse me." Another female employee ran quickly towards me and almost hit me when I was walking towards the Asian snacks area. She did not apologize or say "excuse me." (The other day when I was there, the female employee just stood there when I tried to pass her but she was blocking my way. She just smiled and did not move for me). The staff did not value customers; they put themselves before the customers and expect customers to yield to them. read more

There is a mini cake bakery and Korean concession like fast food place in the left corner of the store. This store is borderline 3-4 stars. Nice addition to the Richmond grocery store scene! I was here on a regular weekend and found it much more pleasant to shop in compared to Osaka (at Yaohan) and it's got a much better selection than the Richmond T&T nearby. Less crazy compared to Osaka and there wasn't the super long checkout lines. Bags are still complimentary here. The produce selection is a bit small for westernized fruits with variations in quality of those items in particular. Excellent selection of Asian herbs and ingredients - if you're hunting for some weird herb/plant you can't find in your usual Superstore/Save On/Safeway, you'll likely find it here. Meats are nicely cut for hot pots, etc... I found the pricing quite reasonable and some of their sale items are well-priced. FYI that their "buy 2 for $X" only applies if you buy 2... there's no option to buy only one for half the price like many other stores. Tons of frozen items available. There's not quite the same Chinese food selection compared to Osaka (I guess that should be obvious since this place is Korean!), but depending on what you need, H-Mart should fit the bill. read more

Remember the Starbucks at Aberdeen Centre right next to the current H-Mart that closed down? It didn't just close, but it was the first Starbucks in Canada that had to close due to a lack of business. It came to the conclusion that there weren't a lot of coffee drinkers in the area. Is the new H-Mart heading to the similar direction? I arrived here on a weekend and this store looked like some ghost town like Barkerville. Not a good sign. Bad feng shui? The produce section was small - sort of something you would see at a corner grocery store. There was a decent selection of Korean sauces, seaweed, junk food, but one could buy the same items elsewhere too. There is also a large seafood area which sells fresh and frozen products. They also sell freshly made kimchi which isn't very common in B.C. As with most supermarkets, there is also a small bakery area and fast food section. This place just feels a bit uninspiring when there's already T&T and Rice World nearby with a much larger selection of similar products at much lower prices. With "Mart" in its name, this isn't a Korean Wal-Mart for sure. read more

This review is for their Bakery section. It's a tiny section, basically they ship the goods from the factory-likely from coquitlam. I wanted to order a yam cake because I've had it before and it was very good (from coquitlam shop), something that rivals Anna's cake house. Unfortunately they don't normally stock that flavour at this branch and the bakery attendant was clueless about whether they even carried that cake. So I decided to try a different flavour expecting the quality would be the same. The bakery attendant said there's chocolate, and green tea. For green tea there's 3 types chiffon, regular, tiramisu. When I asked the differences between the three the bakery attendant was once again clueless about the differences (though I'm aware what chiffon and tiramisu is each bakery has their own versions). Anyway I chose the regular green tea, unfortunately it: wasn't fresh. cake was dry and fell apart, far too sweet for my taste, glaze was sticky like it was a premade film laid over the cake, did not taste like green tea. Could not do any custom writing. So all in all it's an ultimate fail for this Hmart's bakery section. Will never return. BTW I got food poisoning from their coquitlam deli section 2days ago...that's another review. read more

Reasonable prices and most staffs are friendly and helpful. The fruit there is okay, but the best or freshest but it's alright. Rude lady guarding the rice cookers needs to relax. Saw her physically stopping kids from opening the lids. If they don't want kids touching them don't put them there. Also saw a man from the seafood section yell at a customer once... Overall not impressed with the products, prices, or staff. I will be going to Hannam instead from now on. read more

This review is just for the food court at H-Mart at Aberdeen center. While the market part looked promising I didn't buy anything. We had the Bibimbap and the grilled mackerel. Which comes with a great soup/stew who's name I didn't note and didn't show up in my picture! Damn! But sooo good. Everything was fresh and great tasting, but that grilled mackerel was nicely done and I spent a fair bit of time sucking the meat off the bones. No head on the fish, but that is not the end of the world. Be sure to add the chili paste to the bibimbap to give it that nice kick. It also came with some miso soup, which was fine, but nothing memorable. There are not very many tables so be sure to check them out before ordering "for here!" The ginger tea will also give you a nice boost of zing and the prices are very reasonable. The Kal Bi another couple was having looked good, but we all with that the flavor is the issue, but the way they tore into it, I'm thinking that would be a good thing to try down the line. read more

If you're going to eat in their food court, get the spicy korean pork combo! I loved how this was served on a teppanyaki plate instead of an ordinary plate! The spicy pork was absolutely out of this world! Seriously, this alone is worth the trek to Hmart! The pork was incredibly spicy and flavourful. If you love spicy dishes, this is a must-try! The kimchi that came on the side is the same kimchi they sell in containers in-store. I've bought the large containers before and they go great with a bowl of plain rice and egg! The spiciness of the cabbage is mild compared to the pork haha! The combo also came with some cucumbers and a bowl of miso soup. The cucumbers tasted pretty much the same as the kimchi. The miso soup wasn't too salty, and didn't taste like MSG. read more

The Robson location is definitely better. Their food court consists of 2 kitchens. Their produce section is definitely lacking selection, there really wasn't much other than a bunch of different oranges, giant apples, bananas and some sliced watermelon. *sigh* and here I was so excited to see the H-Mart from the outside of the mall... There isn't enough room for them to achieve close to what the Robson location has. read more

Came exploring here on opening day and it was all sorts of crazy. Came back a week later and it was much more mellow. They've got sampling to compete with the T&T across the street. The store feels a bit cramped (the fresh fruits & veggies section is pretty small if you think about it), but there's got a great selection of fresh seafood and shellfish that I didn't see elsewhere. Their specials are great too, and the staff is really friendly. It's still pretty busy weeks after its opening, which is a good sign! read more

While wandering randomly waiting on company I stumbled upon H-Mart in the lower floor where once there was a small collection of independent food services businesses inside Aberdeen Mall. Some killer grand opening week ad specials. Cilantro at 3 bunches ( not that big but still rather fresh ) for 99 cents. 4 bunches of green onion for a buck. Live dungeness crab $4.99/ lb. It remains to see if they keep up the smash specials. The space it occupies wasn't gigantic to begin with so it's a tight fit with all the various full service food departments, however what space they have they put to good use. Somehow though, if this is possible, this new H-Mart felt less Korean than their other store I've been to in Coquitlam but that's not necessarily a bad thing since a majority of the clientele appears to be Chinese if the grand opening week crowd is any indication. read more

H Mart is located on the main floor of Aberdeen Center with skytrain accessible to the mall. H Mart is the Korean version of T&T and it also have a mini food court inside with 4 or 5 kitchens for basic Korean meals and dessert. They also have a small bakery. H Mart also sells Korean brand cosmetics and skin care, basic electronics, groceries, canned goods, frozen food, seafood, snacks, drinks etc. Workers there usually just do their own stuff stocking up shelves but I'm not sure how fluent they are in English? They always have samples especially in the snacks section. For me I don't know what everything is, so its always good to try them out before buying. This is a review on the new bbq chicken place. The chicken itself is really good and can even rival cocoru on Alexandra, esp for the price. But I didn't like the service I received, hence minus 2 stars. I understand that the place is very busy, but everyone working kept ignoring me? The only reason I was waiting for service is because there was no more of the rice bowls left and I wanted to preorder one, assuming they're currently out. Once one of the lady's working came up to the counter, she interrupted me as I was ordering by saying I don't need to line up, and that I can take the bowls from the heater. Which I was fully aware of; the glass literally says to pick up and pay at the cashier. When I asked for the secret sweet one she pointed at the bowl of only the chicken and saying that it's there and to just take it, in a really matter-of-fact tone too. Took the bowl in the end cause she sounded kind of off-putting and I didn't want to keep talking to her. As someone with experience working in Aberdeen, I fully understand how a lot of the customers here can require a lot of patience to deal with, but I don't agree with outright giving attitude to someone has barely spoken yet. read more

I think it's gotten a bit better. They've hired a number of chinese-speaking staff, so it's not so hopeless sometimes when the chinese customers try to communicate with korean-speaking staff. Prices vary quite a bit. Stuff on sale can be half the regular price. I think there are still things that they can improve on. I feel like the korean management is caught in a quandry of trying to please a predominantly chinese market audience, and the cultures are so different that it is resulting in unnecessary miscommunication and marketing/stocking mishaps. read more
